    Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich

First visit here and really enjoyed our lunch! Our server (Jose) was as friendly and very helpful. He explained the the portions of the fried mushrooms was huge and that a half was more than enough for the 2 of us. He was right! Huge portion and tasty! Not frozen. Chicken was hot and crisp, very nice. The sides were tried weren't great, which was the only thing lacking. Everyone working there seemed friendly and the greeter was talking to each customer like they were regulars. Decorated with a lot of chicken stuff, and lots of seating and tables for big groups! Would be a fun place for a group to go have dinner and watch a game!

Service was good, food just OK. The 2 pieces of cod were oddly shaped, and quite thick. Onion rings were not homemade, as you can see. The mashed potatoes were luke warm, and weren't homemade(think powdered flakes).

Hodak's has always been a comfort food staple for my family for years! We always come here to celebrate my grandmas birthday since it's her fav and we all love it. We were a party of 12 this past weekend and our server treated us with so much care and love. She was the sweetest person ever, I wish I got her name! Hodaks is my favorite fried chicken here in STL, it's crunchy, golden, crispy and juicy inside! Also, the prices are super affordable and the servings are huge! Highly recommend pairing your chicken with sticky sauce you won't regret it! All of the workers are so nice, it felt so family friendly, it's not loud in there at all and the service was pretty fast too.

We went there for dinner and Hodacks did not disappoint. My son and I had the 1/2 chicken dinner with fries and the green beans. The chicken was tender and crispy. The fries were perfect and the green beans with onion were delicious. My wife had the chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. She said the potatoes with the brown gravy was very good. Our waitress Heather was on the ball I had a schafly pale ale and my wife had a hot chocolate with a shot of vanilla vodka. Both were excellent. The restaurant is decorated in a chicken theme. Try to count how many chickens you can count . All was a great night out .

Honestly would skip this place if suggested again. Hodak's is known for their fried chicken so my father in law couldn't pass it up on his visit. We had never been and next time will take him elsewhere for his fried chicken fix. 6pm on a rainy Saturday meant easy seating and quick service. The food is what left something to be desired. Potatoes from powder, canned vegetables, mushy fries, canned baked beans, and fake cheese on our Mac all disappointed. The Southwest wrap my mother in law had and my burger were the only highlights.

Hodacks restaurant is known for its fried chicken in St. Louis, Mo. Well in my opinion it was okayyyy! The chicken itself was good (could've used a little more seasoning) but the breading definitely needed seasoning. The place was crowded, but we were seated right away and was able to talk without shouting. Our server Tim was great. #Hodaks #StLouis

I've been going to Hodaks for years and I've never been disappointed. They have always had the same friendly staff and it really makes it feel like home. My go to is always the chicken wings and I've tried other things but those hold my heart lol. That Cole slaw might be one of the best I've ever had in my life. They have plenty of seating options and it's always decorated for whatever holiday or season is in. A real STL gem

A staple of Benton park, hodak is a fried chicken place with a cool old time vibe, they have more seating in the back. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The mac and cheese is a queso mac and cheese so it had a bit of a kick to it

Fried mushrooms are great here. As for the chicken, it's not my jam; it's over battered in my opinion - just personal preference. Sides such as mashed potatoes and slaw are good (skip French fries). Staff is always great. The motifs is family friendly type. Parking lot is across the street.

The food was really good. The guy who brought us to our table was very nice and talked to my kids and brought them coloring sheets. The food did take a little long, but I really loved the food. I got a cheeseburger with fries and their prices are really fair Our waiter was very kind and the building was very cool. They had a bunch of cool signs. I would come back to this place.!

Chicken, Chicken and more Chicken, this is a STL institution at Hodak's! Perfect casual place for pre-game meal or snack nearby downtown arenas and stadiums. Oh yeah, don't miss their "fried" eats including signature Fried Chicken, Wings, Mushrooms, T-Ravs, Potato Skins and more. Super friendly and efficient service, your beer or beverage won't run empty. Overall 3.5+ rated for me; service was great, food solid, a happenin' local spot where regulars enjoy the ambience and keep coming back! Expect to pay $10-20pp depending your food and drink orders. Today we sampled their Fried Chicken Wings, Sticky Wings, Potato Skins and Fried Mushrooms. Portion size plentiful for sharing. The fried breaded Wings were large and good tasting; altho i've had other wings I prefer more, they've been serving these a long time and I wasn't used to dipping my own hot sauce (usually tossed in), but i liked 'em. The Sticky Wings were Sweet and Tangy (similar to Teriyaki type flavor), but made a nice variety to sample. The "shrooms" platter was simple and plentiful, and xtra tasty dipped in Ranch! Skins were also good, typical style with some cheese, bacon and sour cream. Next time I'd like to try their Chicken sandwich or a dinner meal. Don't miss a St. Louis tradition if searching for a local Chicken eatery and bar! Cheers, ENJOY!

The staff were friendly and smiling and made me feel very welcome. I got a biscuit and gravy and couldn't decide between spicy gravy or traditional sausage gravy so I was offered the opportunity for half and half and I jumped in it. Both gravy's were so flavorful with plenty of sausage. The biscuit was delicious. It was not flaky and buttery but held up well to the gravy atop it so I liked the texture a lot. I also got a hash brown and it was seasoned well and needed no ketchup or the like. It wasn't amazing, but compared to some others it was very good... but let's face it, I didn't go to a biscuit shop for the hash browns. I got a peach tea which was outstanding. Definitely on the sweeter side but that was so easily fixed by letting the ice melt to bring the sweetness down a bit to my preference. Overall I was very happy with my food and the staff and would definitely recommend giving it a try for both sweet and savory biscuits. Will return to try a sweet biscuit next time :)

There are plenty of breakfast and biscuit spots in this city. Don't spend your money here. I have been eating here for a long time and recently had a terrible experience on weds, Jan 28. It was my girlfriend's birthday and we chose to come here to start the day. It got a little busy after we came in , but asked for water and the jug never got filled. That's not even my complaint. Just a nod to the laziness. The staff seemed to come in and spread out everywhere at a table in the small indoor eating area. No big deal, but a little messy. There was no music playing and my gf said in normal conversation to me that there was no music and the vibe was off and that they probably focus on the patio being the vibe (which was covered in a foot of snow)...to which the man at the counter proceeded to ask us how things were and wrap it up with snarkily telling us we were welcome to outside. It was gross to talk to customers like that, and I am sorry that the ego of the employee caused them to interject themselves into a conversation that wasn't rude or loud or had anything to do with them. In my 20 years in the industry I would definitely not support my staff practicing such crappy service. And it really embarrassed us publicly in a quiet restaurant for no reason. Again. Please spend your money at another local business with mature and respectful service. *edit: after reading another recent review about poor service to a family of black people, I wanted to note in my review that my gf is also biracial...

We shared mussels, the beet salad, the soup flight, and the pot roast. Everything was good and tasted well prepared. The mussel broth was flavorful. The soups were excellent. The pumpkin and pear soup leaned toward a dessert profile but fit the season perfectly. The beet salad was not the typical style. The beets had a crisp texture you do not usually see, but the flavor was good and the goat cheese worked well. The pot roast was also solid with tender meat and plenty of flavor. Dessert was the coconut chocolate pie. It had sliced almonds that added some crunch and the portion was large enough to share. Drinks included the brandy margarita and the elderflower gimlet. Both were fine but the margarita was the standout. The cognac note gave it a deeper flavor. Overall, a pleasant dinner with good food and a cozy setting. I would return. This is the perfect spot to bring pretty much everybody, maybe not vegan, but plenty of options for vegetarians and pescatarians. A crowd pleaser. 4/5 because although it's good and solid. I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.
