GF cod, coleslaw, chips for 2, and mushy peas
    Lisa M.

We came specifically to this area of town to check out the gluten free fish & chips. Everything is labeled on the menu for allergens and majority of the menu is GF. I had the GF cod which was great! The GF breading doesn't hold together great but still has great taste. The sides coke a la carte and we tried the mushy peas, chips, and coleslaw. The coleslaw was fantastic- nice and creamy & paired well with the cod! The chips were hot and fresh- no complaints. The mushy peas were not my favorite- they definitely had a minty taste. I am from the US and have never had mushy peas so may just not be a taste preference. Our server was nice- a little slow for service (for ordering and getting our check) but she was the only one working and the restaurant was relatively busy. The food came quick & was fresh though! Would definitely recommend checking out while in London.

Came here for dinner and the line was out the door. Since it was raining and cold we decided to get takeout. The fish was nice and meaty. We got both cod and haddock. Both were fresh tasting but the was definitely better. The coating was a tad soggy but that was probably from not being able to eat it right away. The fries were okay. Nothing special. I wish it was crispier. Onion rings were delicious! I had wanted gravy but they sold out so we got beans instead. I thought they were a little bland. Wish it was sweeter. Coleslaw was standard, again nothing special.

The first meal I wanted in London was of course, fish and chips!! I looked up Yelp right after we checked into our hotel and this restaurant popped up - was not disappointed! If you're visiting London and want extraordinarily good and crunchy fish and chips look no further!!

Amazing!!! If you are gluten free this is a must in London. Indoor and outdoor seating. Small but it's fast dining. Huge tasty portion. Excellent batter. It was my first meal after landing in London.

This was a really great spot for fish and chips! A nice little family owned spot with a few locations. Extremely clean spot and the food was very filling and very fresh. Would definitely go again!

    Vegan "fish" and chips
    Randall M.

Came here for the vegan "fish" and chips so this review is only for the vegan version. I had read an article about Fish and Chips shops in London that offered vegan options and this was one of them. The article did say that Hobson's wasn't the best for vegan "fish" mostly because instead of a fish substitute, they use a banana flower as the "fish". But Hobson's was the shop that was nearest where we were staying so we gave it a go. There was a long line but we were seated within 15 minutes, despite some woman trying to cut in line before us, as if we weren't standing there in line...rude. Service was pleasant but not overly so, and quick. We ordered the vegan "fish" and chips, mushy peas, cole slaw and the deep-fried Mars bar. Well, the Mars bar came first...odd...but the server did apologize for that. So we took a few bites while it was still hot. How can this NOT be good, right? So we saved the rest for after the main meal. The article I read was right about the banana flower. The texture was not good. Think tough and chewy, reminded me of the tough, outer leaves of an artichoke. So we didn't finish it. The chips were piled next to the "fish" so they were soggy, maybe from all the steam and didn't have much flavor, despite adding a ton of vinegar and salt. Mushy peas were good and so was the cole slaw. On the whole, I was a bit disappointed because I had hoped at least the chips would be good. Maybe it was just an off day. They were packed so they must be serving some great food. I really do appreciate that they offer a vegan option. I think that is a great thing.

I ordered the gluten free cod fish and chips. The batter was flakey and didn't really hold up. The chips were cold (unfortunately) but the coleslaw was fantastic - not creamy; very refreshing and light.

Fish & Chips is not as easy to find as it used to, so we were walking around the area north of Big Ben. And decided after all this walking that we were hungry.and it's a fish and chips kind of day! Oh for anyone that doesn't know what chips are, it's fries lol. So when we're in a city that we're not sure on the yelp reviews since it's not as big there yet. We go to our fall back way per internet. Ask some police men or women, were is the best places to get fish and chips, they said Hobson's so we walk some more until we reached Hobson's and by the time we got there, we were starving. This place was packed, open kitchen and a lot of staff. So we ordered our fish & Chips, now I think I should have ordered the Atlantic Cod instead of the hoddock that's a bigger piece but I feel the og is Cod. My mistake but it's still good and I wished they had the malt vinegar. Maybe just nit picking. That's what I remember, and the last place we ate at last week at a pub also used this fish both were good. Service was awesome.

Clean, classy traditional fish and chip shop in the heart of soho. Beautiful and delicious fish batter was light, with just the right level of crunch. Fish was tender and juicy. They also offer a nice selection of drinks and sides- such as coleslaw, mushy peas, onion rings, etc. Service was fast and friendly. Perfect meal - just the right amount for a single serving.

This cute and cozy restaurant deserves all the praise. We caught the last open table before the lunch rush and people-watched while we waited for our waitress. She was so sweet and accommodating with my gluten allergy, and recited my GF order as it arrived to the table; eliminating any doubts of mixing my plate with someone else. It was a life-changing meal as I have never been able to eat a fully fried dish unless it is prepared by myself at home. They even use a separate fryer and use GF batter. The chips (fries) were GF as well and so scrumptious! Knowing me, dessert was a no-brainer, so I went with the GF warm apple crumble. Let me just say it was perfect for an overcast day in London. I downed the entire meal with a few glasses of their house red sangria that was so inexpensive and tasty.

This was a nice little fish and chips spot for takeout or dine in. It was very busy, which indicates it's probably good. We all got, fish and chips. The food and service were very good.

I saw a recommendation for Golden Union, and so we made our way over there for lunch towards the latter half of our trip. The place itself is unsuspecting but ended up being actually very cute when we went inside. The neon signs and vintage furniture make it feel cozy. The staff themselves were also very welcoming. We sat down and were handed menus and waters. I decided to split the haddock and chips with my friend while my other friends got their own portion of cod and chips. Everything was pricey, but it is London. The waitress was also very engaging and friendly since she noticed we were tourists and also helped one of my friends with his journey to try British tea for the first time. Overall, she was so sweet. Despite not having crazy high expectations, the haddock and chips was incredible. The fish was soft, and the chips were fresh and not oily at all. It felt very fresh, and I finished my portion feeling very satisfied. My friends let me try their cod, and the cod was also fantastic--very buttery. The haddock is definitely my favorite though. I was fortunate to come here just before it was peak dinner time and I did see a lot of people waiting. If you look to come here at usually meal times, be ready for a wait! What Is great about this establishment is that they have many options for your fish in case you are craving something in particular. With it being my first time here, I was looking to try either the Haddock or Cod, and decided on the Haddock. Once I received my fish and chips, I was ready to eat and wow the fish was so good and well fried. I tasted how good the fried batter was while all the flavor of the fish was still inside! I could eat this fried fish all day! The batter had the flakiness to it which added a nice texture. As for the chips (fries), I will say that they were average and nothing too special. However, keep that appetite for the fish! Make sure you finish that! Service itself was pretty fast and prompt. They definitely look to get your food quickly so you can enjoy your meal so they can accommodate as many people as possible.

Yelp is not as popular in England, so I took to the internet to find a place which led us to The Windmill. We came to the pub on a weekday evening. It gets quite loud and lively inside but that's part of the culture. The service by all was greatly appreciated. I have dietary restrictions and they went the extra mile to check in with me. All of the staff who helped us were kind and courteous. She had the Dorset Lamb Shepherd's Pie which she quite enjoyed. I had the Smoked Salmon, King Prawn & Atlantic Haddock Fisherman's Pie. My pie came piping hot. There was a lot of seafood inside--it was rich, creamy, and hearty. I was only able to eat half. He got the Pork and Sage Sausage Roll which was savory and reminded me of an elevated pigs blanket. For dessert, we shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding which was so good! So moist, sweet, warm and delicious. We were all pleasantly surprised with our meals as everything was delicious. I recommend The Windmill for a classic and fun pub meal in SoHo.
