I had to cheat in my diet for this place. Good service. Great atmosphere. A very homey redneck sort of place. Gotta love Missoura. Anyways, I ate a delicious burger, smothered in onions and some sort of mayo concoction. I fell in love. It truly made every tastebud in my mouth explode. It was spicy, tangy, sweet, and savory. The fries had me wanting more. Excellent tap water - would definitely recommend it. The perfect amount of ice was put in my cup. A large menu offers something for everyone, at very reasonable prices. The food is very good and generous portions. Most of the fare tilts toward comfort food, this is NOT a place to eat healthy. Great sandwiches...they serve their own homemade potato chips...waitstaff is always friendly and accommodating. One of our favorite places to eat, the only thing keeping it from earning a fifth star is that they allow smoking, which on occasion is annoying: some visits it is barely noticeable, on others it is bothersome. You can avoid this by eating outside. This place is VERY popular, waits of thirty minutes on a Friday or Saturday night are not uncommon. If we happen to encounter a wait we simply head over to the bar for a pre-meal adult beverage. read more

If you are looking for great homestyle cooking at very affordable prices, this is it. The parking lot was full, and there was a 15 minute wait for a table. This is a very casual fun bar/ grill atmosphere with no windows in an American Legion building. Our waitress wore a shirt that said "Kinda Don't Care'". JUST THE CHICKEN A couple of days ago, I discovered it was about to be National Fried Chicken Day so I asked where should I go through social media. I should've been a little more specific as I got places from all over the country, and then I honed in the local establishments. Some I had been to, some I had heard of and Hobo's was one I heard good things about, but I was not remotely prepared for what my mouth and memory was about to blessed by. So here we go: Do you remember the very first time you had fried chicken? I do...the age is not important, but the experience is what matters. I was a little kid, sitting at my grandma's table. It was heavenly. The taste was like none other...wing (whole wings folks there weren't wingettes when I was growing up) I couldn't help myself. Deep friend in animal fat (Crisco) seasoned salt, mixed with pepper was nothing short of flavor awesomeness. So I bring you to my experience two days ago anxiously awaiting the crispy, juiciness, and flavorful chicken southern delight I had at Hobo's. I ordered a breast, and two wings...(and I will comment only these as that was my mission..not the sides...the bird) and as I drove to my office to enjoy the smell was intoxicating enough that I had to try a wing. Wheel in one hand, the other hand holding half of a whole crispy wing....then it happened. As my lips touched the hot, evenly coated crispy wing, and I heard the crunch, tasted the pepper and my tongue was sent on a taste time-warp I was 6 years old again, sitting in my (now deceased) grandmas kitchen enjoying her cooking and company all over again. The flavor was throughout, and before you say "Well that's the wing, the BIG PIECE OF CHICKEN, the breast was UH-FREAKING-MAZING. I am certain someone stole her BEST FRIED CHICKEN EVER recipe, but it doesn't even matter...cause at least I know where I can get it. Disclaimer: While I do believe there are many other good places for Fried Chicken, and variations of it that actually are better than good they are GRRRREEEAATT. As it relates to this review if what you are looking for is traditional no frills, no Nashville Hot, or 31 different wing flavors.....Hobo's got me hooked..and if you visit you will be too, so do us both a favor don't tell many people, because I don't want to show up, and they be out of chicken because your big mouth. read more

Been going here for a good while now and can say they are constantly on top. Anything that you order is hot and flavorful. The fried chicken and fish are so good. The sandwiches are big and good. Oh my gosh, what a fabulous experience! I met my brother there and along with my sister-in-law, we had that cat fish bites, the most flavorful catfish I've ever eaten. I had the brisket with the twice twice-baked mashed potatoes and the baked beans, all I can say is I am still craving both of those side dishes. I have not had twice baked mashed potatoes in probably decades, they are definitely a labor of love to prepare. The baked beans were sweet and yet a little spicy but the perfect flavor balance. The interior of the restaurant is open and there is a full bar. There are a few large screen TVs. It had a lively environment and at 2:30 in the afternoon, there were quite a lot of people coming and going. This is a place that if you can get by there, it is definitely worth it. The prices are really really great for the portion size and the home made offerings. They have a table setup with all of the dinner settings that is left open in remembrance of the MIA/POW soldiers of Wars past. read more

The MENU price for the three piece chicken was $8.50. I got the bill for lunch? $11.75 for the chicken, PLUS $1.75 for the salad. FIVE DOLLARS more than the menu price. The manager's comment? "The chicken special doesn't have a special price." WHAT THE HELL!!!!! Also...salad should be an upcharge, as should be the chili. I paid the FULL price for the chicken, AND the FULL PRICE for the A LA CARTE PRICING for the salad and chili! What about the two free sides for the chicken, you say? NO CREDIT. Hobo's has grown in popularity because of the fried chicken. They have a general overall bar feel. At first we waited 20+ minutes to be seated. I figured that was fine if it was busy and going to be good. I brought my parents, wife, and 2 kids. When we were seated we were informed that they don't have high chairs for kids.. so we had to hold our 1 year old the entire time. We waited quite some time to order our food (we're talking 20+ minutes). I ordered the half a cluck (4 piece chicken) and it was good. My wife ordered the beer battered fish which she did not like. She said the fish was hard to the bite and chewy. It wasn't crisp and flaky like you would expect. Overall I wasn't impressed. read more

I discovered this place because my Corvette Club hosts their annual car show here and across the street. I didn't know what to expect when we first went, but wow, were we impressed. I have never had a bad meal at Hobo's. They have some of the best catfish that I've ever had. The burgers are great, the pizza is great, the BBQ is great, the sides are great and the beer is always ice cold. Be prepared for a line to wait for a table, but it's part of the fun of going. Grab a drink and make some new friends while you wait. Some of the tables are community tables, so you may end up sitting with someone you just met in line. In addition to some of the best food in St. Charles county, the owner of Hobo's is also a generous sponsor and supporter of various non-profit organizations in the area. Very crowded on sundays for lunch but they move tables quickly, staff is friendly. Hubby had the pork steak, it was huge, tender and very tasty. Baked beans according to him were spectacular!! Fried chicken was very good, moist and hot when served. Onion rings and potato casserole were very good also. We've lived in St Peters area for years and just recently found out about this place. Decided to go. When we first walked in it was like, "What have we done?" The place is rather rundown in appearance. For first timers you don't realize that the sign-in sheet is across the room from the front entrance, and no one is there to direct you. You have to walk through the restaurant with a "lost look" on your face, and then somebody realizes that you need help. But, it was very busy (which meant "good food"). Anyway, we all got the fried chicken and it was great. Some of the best we've had in the entire St. Louis area. Portions are large. Prices are good. Wait staff very nice. Since that time we have been back several times and have enjoyed each visit. The only time we were a little disappointed was with the catfish fillets. They were thin and cooked to the point where they were almost "chewy". We'll probably try the catfish again or switch to cod next time and hope for a better experience. Will try to write update. Originally introduced to me as a "biker bar" I found myself hesitant to dine here, as this is not the typical atmosphere I look for in a dining experience. Upon entering this establishment, I was greeted with a cacophony of people dining packed in shoulder to shoulder. It seemed a mixed crew of people, trending older, but many families were present and having a great time. There was a lengthy wait for a seat, crammed into the narrow hallway before the restrooms, anxiously awaiting a seat. I did find myself getting agitated about the wait, preparing to leave. Finally, it was my party's turn to be seated, and despite being asked to share a large table with another party, we were greeted with friendly service, great prices and delicious food. Most everything on the menu was deep fried, but quality of ingredients was top notch, and all members of my party were full and satisfied. I would recommend to others, if you are looking for some delicious fried catfish, or other fried meat type, and do not mind a wait, it will be worth the while. I docked 1 star for an excess wait time (1/2 hr+) if it were possible to be only a half star, I would have done that. read more
