As a woman, it was mildly terrifying to use the restroom without a lock with a room full of men right outside the door. Took in my brand new $80 axles for a Traxxas Rustler because a pin had fallen out on my second drive and they wanted to charge me $20. For one pin. Next, I took in a Traxxas battery that I had for one year, was told it was dead, and they offered to sell me a new one for $80. I contacted Traxxas and was told they have a one year replacement warranty. I was also told that I can swap out dead batteries for new batteries for %50 off. The HobbyTown employee withheld this information. Also, the employees seem very disinterested in helping and only offer advice that will help them achieve maximum profit, not long term customers. It pains me to have to say that shopping online is better than in person, but here we are. read more

I have purchased many 3d wooden models here and I have always gotten excellent service. The inventory is plentiful and the quality of the models is top notch- the price of the models is often less expensive than other stores and often comparable to internet stores. Purchase here at your peril. The HobbyTown Westminster location does not honor their own return policy. I bought a part here and it worked only a few times before failing. The part was completely dead, so I replaced it by buying another from a different vendor. The second one worked perfectly and is still working just fine. I brought the bad part in for a refund. It had only been maybe 2 weeks since I bought it, so it was well within the 30-day return window. When I brought the part to an associate, I explained what happened and was told I would be able to return the part. He walked me to the register, but when he mentioned what I needed another associate said they do not accept returns for this particular brand. They said I had to call the manufacturer and try to get a refund from them, which is a nonsensical thing to say. Another associate opened the web site for the manufacturer and was reading off the RMA/repair process to me, but I did not want an RMA or a repair. This was a new part that barely worked and is now completely dead. I wanted a refund. After several minutes of them talking around me as if I was not standing there, I told them that I was not at all interested in jumping through all those hoops. I left the broken part and the receipt on the counter and I walked out. This is a $90 part. Because they did not want to work with me at all for the return, they will lose all future business from me. That $90 will cost them thousands of dollars in future business. There are other HobbyTown locations that have different owners and I will just go there instead, plus I am posting this review hoping that others will see this and take their business elsewhere. The biggest hobby store I've ever seen. The staff was patient and didn't sell me but rather took the time to explain the differences in the RC trucks I was looking at for my son. When the speed control stopped working they swapped it out under warranty while we waited and they've always been great when we've needed service and parts, event taking the time to help us with the repairs. I'm so glad I found this store and can't imagine how different my child's first RC experience would have bought his truck online. read more

Bought a Small 3qd Rc vehicle about a year ago... an Axial. . After 2 weeks it stopped working.. shelved it for a while after loosing interest.. took it to Hobby town simply to get it tested. The sales boy was Rude.. condescending and Snyde. Told me that the battery's could not go dead otherwise they cannot be recharged. They're trash now... essentially telling me I had to buy new ones... Ok , so my Son has joined the workforce $$. And he has been doing really good about not blowing his money an silly stuff and saving most of it. So he had asked about buying an R/C car so I told him we would think about it as those things can get a little pricey. Anyway as a surprise I took him to this hobby store that I knew about and thought this would be a good starting point for choices. We were not disappointed. We were educated on the differences between certain types ,models and pros and cons of the huge selection of R/C cars. They have R/C everything. Cars, boats , planes , helicopters and alot of stuff " hobby" related. There is just so much I can't even list it all. I'm talking pool cues, darts, miniature figures, and models. And on and on!! And don't let me forget parts and knowledge. I do believe he even mentioned a track for R/C cars in the back. So if you have a hobby , not woodworking related or along that lines this is the place. If you care at all about customer service, DO NOT SHOP at the HobbyTown Westminster location. They sold my son a Futaba receiver that does not fit in the crawler we are building. I went back 2 days later to do an exchange-- hopefully to buy one that fits and works with our transmitter. They won't accept returns on anything electronic. I showed him the receiver, never installed, never had a wire connected to it with a 2 day old receipt. I've literally spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this store, and they refuse to work out an exchange for a $39 receiver. I won't be going back to this location EVER again. HobbyTown management: Train your employees and managers to use some common sense. You've lost a customer for life over a $39 receiver that doesn't fit my crawler. read more

This is a nice place if you want to pick up a model and some paints. The models are not organized in any real way, they're just on the shelf. There's RC planes and cars as well. I come for the Star Wars models, which there are about 1 of each Bandai model, so if you want something - get it when you're there. I always get asked if I need help which is great but, the 4th time is a bit too much. The stock always seems to be low at this location. I came for some orange paint and some other things and they were completely out of stock. I drove the distance and went to the Aurora location which had everything I needed. Just make sure they have what you need before you go. Otherwise good to see it doing pretty well, and I'll be back to pick up a little thing here or there. read more

worst experience ever! bought a maxx truck put I. the battery and made a loud noice. went back to the store they said they had to replace a part charged me for the part and sent me on the pay. 2nd attempt to drive it and it's making the exact same noise. end result is going back to the store once again to probably spend more to get this garbage running and still have not got to drive the truck. you would expect better when spending over $500 on a rc truck. they will not refund or exchange the truck!! choose another store or amazon!! beware of this location read more

I travel across a chunk of town to get to this shop it's that good. I'm disappointed I can't remember all their names but every associate has more than taken the time to explain to me what I'm looking at, the options I have in all price ranges and then allow me to make my own decisions without the up sell pressure that comes with some retail. I've never felt like I was putting anyone out to help me and so far every purchase has come with zero regret. Staff is always super friendly and attentive, I'm in there probably once a week looking at all the miniatures they have for sale and even though they know me they still make sure I'm finding what I'm looking for. On Friday nights they stay open late so people can come play tabletop games like warhammer or battle tech and the atmosphere around that is so freaking awesome. I needed an XT60 connector same day to finish up my ebike DIY battery project and they had it which was great so I didn't had to wait for it if ordered off of eBay or something. Only downside they had everything locked up behind glass cabinet so has to look for someone with a key to open the cabinet. They took this connector straight to cashier for checkout. Maybe they have a lot of theft I don't know but I like more trust between store and customers. It was like a $4 piece come on guys read more

This is my hobby shop of choice! I bought my first 2WD Stadium truck from this company when I was about 15 and I still continue to shop here and I'm now 25 so for about 10 years I've never had the need or want to check out another store. The times and locations have changed greatly but the store, atmosphere, and great staff principals haven't. I've bought three r.c. cars and one quad copter over the years. I will be the first to admit I do not know much about all the tech stuff but when ever I go in and need help the staff treats me well and breaks the issues down in a easy to understand manner so I leave with the products I wanted and the knowledge needed. I have worked with multiple staff members and always get superb treatment from each of them. So if your looking for a new place to get your hobby needs fulfilled then look no further. Just absolutely the most horrible place, staffed by the most inhumane horrible people! If I could find a way to give them a "minus 1,000", I would! My 12 yr old son loves 2 things: computers and RC engineering. Not just playing with the stuff, but understanding the mechanics of them. We started with a great RC car and moved up to helicopters, then made the big jump to a basic Cessna plane for his 12th b'day. The helicopter we bought had some issues, and we went into the store for help. There was some rolling of eyes and mediocre concern for the defective merchandise, and of course the staff blamed it on my son. They said, "sorry, cant be fixed, and its your fault-you broke it." My son took it home and re-engineered everything and bought parts on Ebay, from CHINA!!!! He ended up reverse engineering the defective parts and created his own RC Helicopter from spare parts and duct tape, and gorilla glue! It flies better than it did from the start- with ZERO help from hobby town! The RC plane that we bought for his b'day was defective out of the box. He and I, and a few of his smart friends, tried to brainstorm the reasons why it wouldn't fly, and alas we all determined it was defective...again! My wife took him back into the store to ask for help, and tried to show staff why it was defective. THEY CALLED HIM AN IDIOT. Let me say that again: THEY SAID MY SON WAS AN IDIOT, and regaled the many times we bought merchandise only to have it come back in broken because he "WAS AN IDIOT". My son overheard them saying this again, when they didn't know he was shopping for a different model, and broke into tears. He's such a good boy. Never a bad word about anyone, and so excited about RC stuff, and this is what he got. When I got home tonight, he was curled up under the covers in his bed, sobbing, crying about what happened. He said to me, "Daddy, they were so mean to me. I tried to explain to them why the plane didn't work and they just called me an idiot. Daddy, I never want to go there ever again, and I never want an RC plane or car ever, ever again." So...GREAT JOB Hobby town! Congratulations, you did a whole bunch of stuff here: You made my son cry with your abusive, infantile, mediocre, pedestrian hurtful words. You lost a potential lifelong customer, and you just ensured that good Ole Dad will go so far out of his way to make sure that you NEVER ever hurt another little boys's dreams that he will make it his life's mission to put you out of business, forever. This place is like a huge toy store for big kids. My husband is a prime example of a big kid. He is an RC car/buggy/truck/ and now helicopter geek. He won't shop anywhere but at Hobbytown. They have every part he could possibly need (and the rate at which he goes through them is astounding), and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable. The staff don't just work there; they are all RC people themselves, they know what they're talking about, and they know what they're selling. read more

This place used to be larger but they've cut the store in half and a gym is in the right side now. This place is a great science type hobby store. It has rockets, trains, rc cars and planes, and other miscellaneous type toys. They have a moderate sized collection of gaming books but based on appearance, it looks like they're getting out of the general gaming hobby as they haven't purchased any new books in some time. They do have quite a large collection of Warhammer miniatures and books so if you're doing Warhammer, this would be the place to go. They also have pool tables and dart boards if you're into that. There are two game rooms in the back which are generally used for the Warhammer folks although there are posters for other games up. At the front, they have a small collection of dice and a few magazines. read more

They sold me a defective product and when I tried to return it I was told that I couldn't return it, even with a receipt. The worker was not friendly at all and even insulted my by saying that their store isn't a Walmart. They have bad costumer service and there's NO SIGNS anywhere in the store stating that all sales are final. read more

These guys sold me a defective product and then showed no interest in helping me resolve the issue. It was actually a very small matter - just a few dollars. But the principle of the thing bothered me tremendously. I expressed my concerns and the response from the store was one of cold indifference. I would NEVER treat my customers so shabbily. Why patronize lousy businesses? I'll never set foot in this store again. Colpar Hobbies is less convenient for me, but those guys know their stuff and treat customers well. I brought in my RC car so they can tell me what was wrong with it, they were very rude and they said it was the motor so I bought a new one. The teenager behind the counter took it out of the box and offered to help me install it. I told him to put the old parts in a bag. When i got home I realized he kept them and when i went back to get them, they had them back on the shelf to resale them again. STAY AWAY from this store! read more

This store is a joke. Every single time I go in there for a specific item they don't have it in stock, even if it shows online that it is available at this store! And it's not obscure or off-the-wall things either, it's common products that any hobby store should have on the shelf, like gloss black paint! As a table top war gamer, I cannot recommend a better place to shop for FoW, Warhammer 40k/Fantasy, and Warmahordes. They have a great stock, and carry many items at 20% off SRP. They also have a gaming room with four or five solid tables. The guy who represents their war games is a younger guy who is really enthusiastic about everything and is really helpful and happy to demo games if you are a new player. In essence, it's a great example of a F.L.G.S (Friendly Local Game Store). It's easily on par with Total Escape Games, and Karliquins. read more

Horrible customer service they are all friendly when you wanna but something but after that there is no customer service .. I spent over a 1000 bucks there and my battery shorted out on my traxxas summit and they said the best i could do was buy another one or contact traxxas . I told them that I can't even use my rc now and they said unfortunately that's how it works . I also was told that I could use my 5 dollar off coupons on a new body for the summit so I ordered one and when I came to pick it up a week later they said I could only use one coupon for every purchase over 25 dollars and they said if you wanna use all of your coupons you need to spend 200 dollars wow after I already spent 1000 dollars at your store . Decent cars/trucks/quadcopter/heli's. Parts selection is pretty good at this location for vehicles they carry... I _really_ wish they would carry higher end kits/parts though! Staff is *OK*. To be honest, I've had a mixed bag of experiences at the store over the years. read more
