This was my first time buying a MTM suit; not off the rack. I wear a suit every day at work... but I'm not impressed and not likely to return to HKT again. $4k for a made-to-measure suit. The experience felt closer to a used car dealership than a Bespoke Tailor experience you see in movies. Nine weeks after being fitted I was texted to come in and try on my suit. It needed adjustments so it was another 4-5 weeks to pick up my suit. No text this time... I had to call and see if the suit was ready. The suit is nice but I'm struggling to view this purchase as worth the hassle. Honestly, I'd rather have four or five good suits off the rack than one suit for this price. I am likely to purchase another MTM suit but my next purchase will be at Guffey's or another option. HKT missed an opportunity here to capture my repeat business. read more

Brought in a fine Italian jacket (SP Napoli) in for tailoring. Picked it up, paid the bill, and returned home. Upon wearing the jacket I noticed the re-sewn felt structure was wrinkled and poorly managed. I live in another state and do not have time to be sending stuff back and forth. I have a casual blue blazer that's been in my possession for a few years. It's got a cool mini corduroy type material but it fits like a garbage bag. Has no shape. A real dad jacket. I typically wear it with a hoodie underneath to fill it out. Since my WFH job is transitioning back to the office (currently March of 2022), i thought I'd see if this place could alter the blazer to fit better. It was more expensive than i expected but it turned out better than i expected! So yay? This went from dads jacket to party blazer! Holy Crap! Who knew a little tailoring made this a whole new jacket! Btw it fits so well i can no longer wear the same hoodie underneath it. Who knew such a classy, high-end clothier exists in plain sight on Buford Highway? Thanks to Yelp Atlanta Community Manager Jonathan T for introducing a bunch of us to HKT Clothiers (formerly Hong Kong Tailors) at a Yelp Elite Event last summer (https://www.yelp.com/biz/yee-yelps-guys-night-out-hong-kong-tailors-atlanta). If it wasn't for that event, I would never have stepped foot inside this store, despite passing by it on the road for well over a decade. Hong Kong Tailors has existed in Atlanta since 1970. The business recently underwent a rebranding and renovation and became HKT Custom Clothiers. The store has been in its current location since 1983/84 -- a long time. HKT makes custom shirts and suits from scratch. The suits are made in-house (there's a separate building in the back where the tailors work) and the company also has a team of tailors in Hong Kong. The tailors actually start by drafting out suits on paper before considering fabrics and materials, most of which come from England, Italy, and other European countries. The customization options seem endless and quite frankly, for a simple guy like me who doesn't care that much about fashion, overwhelming! I already have a couple custom-made suits and a custom-made shirt from TRIO Custom Clothiers, another local clothier I'm a big fan of. It's only natural that I compare the two competing businesses. If you're budget-conscious, seeking good-looking custom suits/shirts, and don't mind that they're made in China (nothing wrong with that, in my opinion), then go with TRIO. If you want the same thing, but higher quality and made here in the US, Hong Kong, or Europe, go with HKT. Simply put, you'll be spending more, but you get what you pay for, which is a better quality product. HKT has a more spacious showroom than TRIO and they seem to offer more in terms of fabrics/materials, customization options, and accessories like ties, socks, belts, suspenders, boutineers, sunglasses, etc. Owner Neil Balani even has his own private label, which I think is pretty dang cool. I had a custom shirt made by HKT and I love it. It's the best fitting dress shirt in my wardrobe. I took a couple of my favorite shirts to Neil for him to look at. One was a Brooks Brothers shirt that I had altered by my favorite tailor, Laura, at Royal Alterations on Howell Mill Rd. The other was my custom shirt from TRIO. Ever the perfectionist, Neil was able to point out flaws in the fits of both shirts. Neil took my custom fit shirt from TRIO and improved upon it. He took an already great shirt and made an even better one from it. (HKT also offers tailoring/alteration services.) Shirt customization options include fabric, collar, sleeve, pocket, cuffs, front (placket, plain, hidden button), back (plain, dart, pleat, single pleat), and monogram. Neil stepped me through each option. They have a dizzying number of fabrics to choose from, cuff and collar samples to look at, and monogram styles and colors to decide between. If you're looking to get something custom made, I highly recommend making an appointment because it will take some time to go through all of the options, even if it's just for what you think might be a simple shirt. A custom shirt here runs $165. My custom shirt was made and ready for its first fitting and adjustment about 3 weeks after my initial visit. The final altered shirt was ready 3 weeks after that. So, in total, you should allow about 6 weeks for your very first custom-made shirt. Other items I've gotten from HKT include a white linen pocket square (Neil Balani label, $55), skinny, blue-patterned necktie (Neil Balani label, made in Italy, $115), grey and blue Geoff Nicholson dress socks (made in Italy, one size fits all), and a light blue boutineer. The custom shirt I got was blue, so Neil and his team wanted to make sure all of the accessories were consistent in terms of style as well. Great attention to detail. Neil also threw in an HKT-branded collar card. It looks like a credit card, but with four collar stays that I can pop out and use in case I travel somewhere and forget the collar stays for my shirt. Neat. The service matches the product sold, which is top notch. Neil and his team (shout-out and big thank yous to Kim and George) have taken excellent care of me. If you're looking for a well-made bespoke suit or shirt, definitely check out HKT. You will be impressed. read more

The wonder of having clothes that actually fit! This is the world that Neil, George, and the rest of the HKT team have led me into and I'm not going back! As a woman who stands at 5 feet and 4 inches tall, I straddle the line between regular and petite sizing. Like many people, I don't have the best luck when it comes to proper sizing with off-the-rack garments. I'm also a self-confessed cheapskate, so you can imagine that after buying my clothes on sale (and on eBay and Poshmark), I'm hesitant to spend more money to alter them. I got some dresses this spring and decided that I'd have them taken in and up. You see, I wear a size 2/26 in my favorite brands (admittedly, I rock lots of J. Crew and Madewell, with jeans from Levi's, Joe's Jeans, and recently Everlane thrown in the mix) and every year, the same size fits more loosely. I have size 26 Madewell jeans from 6-8 years ago that scream as I pull them up and refuse to be buttoned. I probably have actually gone up a size but I chalk it up to age and my love of cake, which I'm fine with. Regardless, aforementioned dresses were size 0 and 2P and I swam in them. With no smaller sizes made or left, I brought the dresses to Neil and his team. My dresses were finished on the date promised and the work was excellent. I had the midi length dresses shortened to my knees, which helps my short, chubby legs look a tad less stumpy. Just recently, I brought in an 11-year-old snug-size-4 black wool walking coat from J. Crew (reminiscing about better quality of years past) with the way too-long sleeves that I'd left in the back of my closet to collect dust. I had those shortened and two buttons added to the front (there were three fabric-covered and a hidden snap button). George worked patiently with me and after trying different button options, he decided to make the two extra buttons for me. Incredible work. You won't pay the lowest price here, but for the workmanship, you end up getting a bargain for clothes that fit you fabulously. In the future, I'm considering getting a navy wool schoolboy blazer made here. I've snagged one from J. Crew and one from Ralph Lauren one and neither fit quite right... read more

I brought two pairs of jeans in to have the front pockets replaced. I was quoted $50 PER PAIR. I was shocked. I was told that they had to "rebuild the entire pocket". I thanked the man, walked out and went less than a minute away to Yudi's Alteraciones and they quoted me $30 for BOTH PAIRS of jeans. Yudi's did a beautiful job and a (more than) fair price. I can't help but feel that HKT was gouging me for some reason and because of that I would not recommend them and I will not be going back there. read more

While there are choices in this store, it is not worth the price nor the cheap sales tricks. I walked in and the sales man didn't answer any of my questions but rather kept pushing cloths on me. I asked where the cloth material was made and he answered they are exclusive to HKT. I understand quality and know that cheap material rips easily with customized pants. He couldn't even tell me if the suits were 120s, 130s, etc. This place seems shady in my opinion. read more

Hong Kong Tailors is a great, reasonably-priced, traditional male-oriented tailor shop. (Is "male oriented tailor shop" a redundancy?) I have been coming here to get pants cuffed, and pants and jackets taken in since the mid-1990s. Apparently they have had the same versatile, reliable seamstress the whole time. She beautifully took in Miss D's (nontraditional) wedding dress. They make conservative men's custom suits and shirts using bolts of fabric you can see and handle, and have a generous but somewhat pricey selection of traditional neckties and other accessories. If you are looking to get rich or die tryin', or you dress like a pimp or playa', shop elsewhere. Unless you're on trial and need to resemble a respectable citizen. read more

I want my clothes to look just right--slim, modern, fashion-forward--and I don't even have to explain to the guys here. They get it. They know fashion. They know what looks good on you. The quality of their alternations is top notch, price is very fair and reasonable, and turn around time is generally a week. Receipts are emailed to you so it' easy to keep track of. All of the employees are very knowledgeable and give great advice on style/fashion (just tell them what you want and they can make it happen). They also sell private label clothing, as well as some from outside vendors. Their private label items looks amazing with some unique ties, pocket squares, lapel flowers, etc. Everyone will tell you having a custom suit is a must. Hong Kong Tailors is my go-to tailor in Atlanta for two main reasons: 1. The quality of work they do is fantastic. I have taken shirts, suits, pants, and anything else I've needed tailored to them and it is always done exactly as I hoped it would (even when I couldn't articulate exactly how I wanted the fit to look). I never have any doubts that the work will be to the highest quality. 2. The environment in the store. Talking with Neil about scotch, sports, and traveling while last-minute alterations is done helps pass the time, and the interior of the shop has some great cloth samples, ties, and cufflinks to admire as well. The establishment came highly recommended. I was able to make contact with a representative via email prior to driving 35 minutes to the location. I explained the need to have a pair of suit pants hemmed and that I would need them completed by the 30th of January. The representative advised that the request could be completed in that time frame and provided address and directions. Once I arrived I was greeted and told before even communicating my need that I could not be serviced and they wait time for the alterations would be 4 weeks. What changed in the matter of 3 days? After trying out Saint Marc in Midtown for a pants alteration and being very displeased with the service and final product (see my review), I decided to give Hong Kong Tailors a try. Neil is great. Very friendly, very personable, and wants you to look good, but most importantly, wants you to look how YOU want to look. I wanted the pants fairly slim, perhaps more than classic style would dictate, and he was more than willing to do it for me. He was sure to inform me that it would be quite slim, and made sure that's what I wanted, then did it, no questions. Turn-around was just over a week, price was very fair, cheaper than the first tailor and he did more work, and the pants look GREAT. I'm very pleased, and after picking them up and seeing how they turned out, promptly left him with two more garments to alter. Worth the money, nice little shop, and great service. Will definitely be going back. His shop is also modern: emailed receipts, accepts credit cards, etc. which isn't standard for shops like this. Highly recommended. I recently got a custom suit tailored for a wedding where I was one of the groomsmen. I am 6' tall and skinny, so I wanted a well-fitting sharp looking suit without that extra baggy room around my waist and legs. HK tailors lived up to the challenge. On the day of the wedding, I even requested some last minute alterations, and they did those without any hassles... and without making me feel bad! Their workmanship and quality is top notch. When I first started learning the importance of dressing well in March last year, I learned the "golden rule" of style: "Fit is king." A man in a tailored $300 suit will look better than the man in a $6000 untailored suit. Neil at Hong Kong Tailors will help you achieve this. I've gone to him for all of my tailoring needs since then and am going to place an order for a custom blazer soon. If you've been dropping your alterations off at the dry cleaners and hoping for the best, you need to come to HKT. The alterations prices are on par with the dry cleaners, but you get the personal attention to fit that comes only with the personal interaction that HKT provides. Neil has a considerable amount of experience, and he can cater to your taste, whether it be more modern or conservative. He can make you the perfect suit, whether it be for your wedding or if you're looking for something completely ridiculous. My new favorite place to shop in Atlanta. I was recently referred to Neil / George and his team from a close family friend when I mentioned that my suits never fit me properly. I can tell you I no longer have that issue. The process of ordering a custom suit the first time is time well invested. Going forward, they will always have everything on file, so it's simply walk in pick your fabric / liner / customization and in a short month or so you have a new suit or jacket. As previously mentioned in other reviews, these guys do know men's fashion and will help you go traditional or modern as needed. I have ventured out a little bit with some tweaks, but look forward to additional ideas from Neil. I have been a loyal customer since 1991. Cliff and now his protege really know their business. They have always had a real feel for dressing well and how to let clothes bring out the best of your physique, and to minimize your flaws. That is the real art of alteration. I bring them my finest clothes corneliani, Oxxford, zegna, zanella and they work their gifted magic. Neil shops the world markets and finds unique fabrics and one of a kind accessories for his clientele As a doctor, I need to dress right and HKT insures that happens. I have not purchased a custom suit yet but hope to soon. I have also been the victim of bad alterations elsewhere where communication is a problem or the alteration come undone. I've had two made to measure suits and numerous alterations elsewhere and they all fall short of the work done here. Although I only had a jacket alteration done here I would be comfortable coming back for alterations of any kind based on the final product I received.
