I got my suit jacket tailored here. They did an expert job! I got it back and was very impressed with the beautiful craftsmanship and seamless, invisible work. The service was excellent as well. I felt they paid a lot of attention to pinning, fit, and style on my body type before going through with the work. They are a local business that has been in operation for 30 years in Sandy Springs. Prices aren't cheap, however, and are more expensive than other tailors. With the clothes that are being made these days, it might cost you $40 to alter a $20 dress. Shanghai Alterations exceeded all of my expectations today! I took in my son's school pants to them last week for major adjustments, because I thought I couldn't order his true size from the school. I went ahead and left 5 pair of pants for alterations. On the day of pick-up, I called the school and realized my error. So, I quickly called Shanghai and asked if they had started my order. The pricing for this store is just too high. I took a $14 pair of flowy pants to get altered and they were going to charge me $39 to get them taken in at the waist. I went to another place one minute down the road and they could do it a different way for only $10! Do not go here if you car about your clothes! I brought in a 2000 dollar suit to have altered and honestly it looked like a 5yr old stitched it up. My jacket was taken too far in and pants too short. So guess what? I can't return the items and Emily the owner refused to give me my money back. She argued with me saying how that's the way the suit fits me and it's not their fault. To add insult to injury she and her staff cursed me out in Chinese. Bad for her that I studied Chinese and understood everything. They are honest about what needs to be done to make it fit right for you (best length, where to tuck in, where to let out) and about whether it is worth it to have it altered in the first place. They did my wedding dress alterations (and actually made my friend's wedding dress which was AMAZING out of peices of her mom's wedding dress -- so cool), hem all my jeans (they look flawless), and when I had them replace the worn out satin lining of my winter wool/cashmere overcoat, they even resewed the brand label back in -- it looked brand new! You can pay less, but I wouldn't trust the clothes I love to anywhere else. read more

I took in pants to have the waist lowered, & was quoted $76 for the alteration. I was told the pants would be ready at 3PM yesterday. When I arrived for pick-up, I was told they were not done yet. No call or other notification to inform me before I made an unnecessary trip out. With the obscene pricing & no common courtesy of notifying me when there was a change in their timeframe, I will not be going back. read more

I drive half an hour each way to go to Shanghai Alterations -- they do amazing work, are nice people, and I think their prices are very reasonable for what they do. I've had them do everything from simple hems on jeans to extensive alterations for bridesmaids' dresses for my daughters, and they've done excellent quality work on every job. I am pretty good at sewing and alterations myself, and don't bother doing it anymore, because they are better than I am and worth the time/money tradeoff. read more
