My first visit was a few months ago. After meeting with friends for lunch at Samosa Fusion, I got a cold milk tea next door at HK Garden. It's where I learned that HK Garden and Samosa Fusion have the same owners. Cool! You can get samosas at either place. However, for cold milk tea, you can only get it at HK Garden and it is delicious. The folks make the cold milk tea with a touch of sugar, but it's barely noticeable. The milk tea is perfect. I loved it so much that I went back yesterday to get one for dinner. It was consistent and hit the spot on a hot day. I wanted to get some food from here before I wrote a review. I found this eatery on Uber Eats and decided that a dinner order would be perfect. I got the soft pork rib noodle soup. It was BOGO on Uber Eats. I got an estimated time that my order was ready. It was perfect getting there from downtown Markham. The place had my order ready ahead of schedule, which was nice. This eatery is located at Dynasty Centre, which is a plaza with lots of businesses and eateries. It was quiet at around 5:30 pm on a Monday. I parked fairly close to the restaurant and walked in. There are two doors to walk through before you're in the restaurant. A woman saw me and immediately went to fetch my order. It was almost as if she didn't care to hear my name. She asked me to go into my app to swipe that I received my order. That request was a first for me, but I was happy to do it. I got my food in a plastic bag. I thanked her and left with my food. I placed it safely in my car and drove home. I took the broth and added it to my bowl of noodles. I loved the veggies. I wish that I had more of them. They were perfectly cooked. The soft pork ribs were meaty and flavourful. They were delicious. The downside were the noodles. They were slightly overcooked and a bit mushy. It was a shame, but still edible. My bowl of noodles had green onion. It needed more of it. I have one more bowl to enjoy. We'll see if I feel the same way. I'd return to get some more HK-style items off the menu. Under new management. New owners. New staff. Indian-Chinese menu. As a long ago customer, many years ago I enjoyed HK Garden. They used to be a good Hong Kong style cafe with good quality food, always served hot. Then there was a change of management. Wanting to keep an open mindset, I came back here to give it another go after my last order was not acceptable - my curry beef brisket with rice tasted like an odd amalgam of sauces mixed with cleaning products and dishwashing soap. I was completely perturbed that I was eating cleaning products with my food yet once again wanted to give them another chance. When our food arrived at the table today the toast was ice cold and the hot dog was hard crunchy, overcooked, shrivelled up and burned, I wondered if there was a pattern here. It was not the fault of our waitress but perhaps an oversight of the kitchen staff. Kudos to our great waitress who went above and beyond to correct the situation by addressing it with the cook and she made sure things went right. She was kind, professional, hard-working and an asset to their staff. The verdict? Although service was polite and staff were professional, the food quality assurance was not the same as before, since it's not run by the former staff and owners. End of an era. read more

Was in the area and stopped by for breakfast. Walking in, you can tell they're going for the 80's & 90s vibes with the decorations and setting. Decent spacing and the staff was quick to order. I ordered the Satay beef vermicelli soup set meal, which seemed to be decently priced. However, the satay beef itself was terribly watered down and almost no satay flavour, which was disappointing. The set also came with scrambled egg, sausage , and toast, which were all okay. Nothing too special about the milk tea either. Overall, food was mid, service is good. Came here for breakfast and I would say the food is average at best. I got the steak, scrambled eggs, bacon and hashbrown combo. For $13.99 and the fact that it was a breakfast combo, I definitely wasn't expecting much in terms of the steak quality. What I dislike was that the steak was soaked in a watery (teriyaki / BBQ?) sauce. The scrambled eggs weren't the "smooth" type, but to be fair, it wasn't explicitly stated on the menu. I ordered a milk tea with my combo and the tea flavour was weak. It did have the typical milk tea colour though. My husband got a combo with satay beef vermicelli. The beef had no satay flavour. We often come by here for HK style cafe. But I noticed that the owner isn't the same anymore. So there's certainly some difference compare to before. Sadly, they don't open late anymore as they have updated their hours now to be only open until 8PM, after a change of ownership took place a few months back. They may still be the earliest restaurants to open at 6:30AM but feels things may change soon again after it isn't busy anymore in the morning. Pretty good. HK Cafes always have a soft spot in my heart because I've eaten this stuff growing up. Plenty of tables for 2 and 4 inside. Seated immediately and served hot water. Their menu has a lot of the typical offerings you'd expect, with a large assortment of noodles, baked dishes, snacks, and drinks. Ordered the Chicken steak with gravy which also came with a slice of buttered toast, fries and a hot dog. Pretty decent portions and the gravy was very good! Also got the baked ham and chicken spaghetti with cream sauce. This one also came with a side soup of either russian borsch or cream soup. Both dishes also come with a hot drink (or cold drink for $1). The spaghetti was about what I'd expect. The portion here was also quite good. I think this place does things right. This was my second time at this establishment, but first time writing a review. The café has recently under went a change in managements (Jan 2023) and is both different and the same. Apparently the day I went was the first day of the management change and was rather chaotic. The menus and food quality looked and tasted similar, but service was slow and unresponsive. They get a pass, as it was their 'first day', but I am expecting better the next time I am there. Egg ham + toast and satay beef vermicelli combo - Egg was a over easy and ham was ham, pretty standard hk café style. The toast was nicely toasted, but the salted butter was really salty. Vermicelli was also rather salty, the soup already had good flavour and the addition of the satay sauce made it over the top salty. Would look for something without the satay or the soup next time. Beef was chewy, felt like over tenderized with the tenderizing powder. French toast with peanut butter - Crispy outside, not as fluffy on the inside as I'd like. Peanut butter was not evenly spread. Butter they supplied was one of those whipped butter, see pic. Would have liked to see the butter from the toast on this French toast. Syrup container had tissue from cleaning, would suggest to revise their sanitization of their shared dispensers. Milk tea - This was as good as I remembered, more tea flavour. Cream did not over power the tea. Did not disappoint. It maybe a while before I come back to try again. We arrived early for brunch, and there seems to be a few local customers. Food is ok, just your standard HK style restaurant. The interior is a bit dated, but still comfortable enough. Solid 3.5 stars! Have not been here in a very long time and was nice to see the regular crowd and HK style yummies to treat the taste buds. Ordered the L2 lunch special. Cream sauce chicken over noodles that came with a complimentary soup and tea/ coffee. The soup was very nice, well flavoured, HOT -temperature wise, and a delight to drink before moving onto the entree. The sizes here are huge and the flavours again are rich and to point. I was having doubts on my abaility to finish but being the trooper, wasted not one drop! The tea was smooth and full of flavour and could not have asked for a better way to enjoy a long needed lunch out. Seen some bad review but still wanna try myself and see about this restaurant ! Very tiny inside and fully seated, we got seated in a table with only one side facing the wall but still feel spacious! We did not get asked to see our vaccination passport and table were placed very close to each ! We have order two combos , one is satay beef vermicelli, ham and egg bread and a cup of tea , the other is curry pork on rice , and came with soup and tea ! My husband could not able to chew the beef , it was so tough ! He end up left all beef on the side ! My curry sauce was good combination with the pork chop , with that price I could not ask for more ! When the server collect our dishes , my husband told her about the beef texture , she showed no emotion about that ! We ordered takeout here and brought it all the way home to NJ from Toronto, and it was still good. I ordered the baked malaysian brisket over rice, and I really enjoyed the sauce that they added. Many people had recommended this restaurant to me and I finally got a chance to try it. They're famous and known for their hainese chicken rice so no doubt this would be the dish to try. I also ordered a baked pork chop rice and once again also another goto dish from them. Food: honestly it's ok nothing really special. I almost feel this place is only recommended because the price point is ok (but the portion really justifies the price) the chicken is pretty tender but I also didn't appreciate the Amon r of bones I found in the chicken. The sauce variety was great but lacking in flavour. It he bakes pork chop rice was alright I found it a bit on the sweeter side and once again portion wise was a bit lacking. This is a very good cafe if you want to not make a dent on your wallet, and yet feel satisfied and full. Coming in on Saturday at lunch, this restaurant was very busy as there was a line up pretty much after we sat down. There's a variety of food to order, and they have a lot of good combos that are very cheap and comes with a lot of items (including side/drink/soup). The food came really fast, less than 5 minutes. Have not been here since it was just called Garden Restaurant. It is located in a plaza regularly visited by locals right on Sheppard east of Midland. Came here for breakfast, because my family's regular breakfast spot was closed for renovation and the food here was so bland... Seriously, the driest and blandest food I have ever eaten. Staff were pretty nice and all women in their mid 40s or 50s, but none of the food we ordered, which are typically what we always order elsewhere, were just the blandest thing we have ever eaten... will not come back even if the prices are relatively low. read more

HK Garden newly renovated is clean and spacious. Friendly wait staff eager to please with a smile and recommendation. $2.99 Special after 2 pm dine in Noodle Special that includes a soy milk drink? That is just unheard of in a sit down full service restaurant! So how's the quality. It was excellent! The portion is perfect as an afternoon tea. The HK style milk tea that I paid 25 cents to upgrade from soy milk though was so so. Not smooth and really weak. I would not order that again. Lunch Special for $6.45 that changes daily and All day breakfast/combo/meal set. A great solid menu selection for a HK style Cafe. Business hour 7 am - 4 pm and closes Sundays. This place is a staple in the neighborhood, lots of repeat customers and I can see why. Prices are great (most under $10), portions are great, lots of selection and service is fast, efficient and friendly. Love seeing the waiters know their customers by name and what they want. Fantastic milk tea, I like it robust and less milk. Order satay noodles and beef tendon with squash and rice. Both very flavourful. The noodles are soft and broth was perfectly balanced with savory heat. Kids had the fried rice and love it. Giving it a 4 for the food and service. This place is my go to CCT and I just love it. My only complaint is that they close at 4:00pm so when I'm craving it any time after that, I just have to suck it up. It gets busy around 11:30am but the food comes out quick so the turn around is fast, so don't be discouraged if there's a line. My go to dishes are tomato beef macaroni, club sandwich, and oatmeal. Oatmeal - Made how oatmeal should be. For me, this is my ideal oatmeal. The consistency, the milkiness, just everything about it is perfect. They usually sell out by 11:30am so if you want it, better go early! Club sandwich - Always solid. Love the chewy bread. It's the same one they use for their toast so clearly their toast is bomb as well. Tomato Beef Macaroni - This is honestly so good. I'm a slow eater and somehow the soup stays hot and the macaroni stays chewy. What is this magic? It comes in a regular looking bowl but the bowl is so deep, it's such a hot deal. Though I love this place, I have to admit that on an off day, the macaroni is soft and it makes me sad, but on all other days, it's the best. Iced Lemon Tea - Another one that's not consistent but when it's done right (and it usually is), it's my favourite. When it's not, it's got that kind of bitter tea taste, but it's good enough that I will always gamble. I've also gotten various rice/noodle dishes to go like fish on rich with cream sauce or gravy with chicken on rice and It's all good. I haven't found any inconsistencies with those dishes. It seems to only be with the Iced Lemon Tea and the Tomato Beef Macaroni. Oh, and if you love Costco fries, definitely get the fries here. I've been told to come here for their pork soft bone rib gui lin noodles and boy am I glad i decided to give it a shot. The plaza is filled with many restaurants/food establishments and prices are very competitive. The place is clean and very no fuss no muss. They give you a free Chinese newspaper if you order breakfast there. The service is fast and the portions are good. Their milk tea isn't as good as Phoenix's or Lucullus' but for the price I think it's pretty decent. This place was near full capacity during lunch hours on a Friday. The parking lot was even more full. In fact the lot was so packed and there were so many people already waiting for spots I decided to park across the street. The service at this place is lightning fast. I ordered a vermicelli with soup and satay beef which comes with buttered toast, ham and one egg for $6.25. Added iced milk tea for $0.75 more. The milk tea arrived within 30 seconds like it was premade or something. Adter a couple sips and literally within 2 minutes my lunch arrived. This is fast food to the next level. Like a super saiyan of fast foods...Yes, I made a Dragonball reference. I was in and out of this place in less than 15 minutes. Everything tasted pretty decent and for the price its hard to complain. Came here around 2pm on a weekday. It was busy. We waited about 5-10mins for a table to open up. We ordered the congee combo (minced beef congee and chow mein noodles). This is a great deal for the portion and price. It's unfortunate they don't have sesame seeds and other sauces to add like other congee places. Also got the omelette with ham and mushrooms, fries, hot dog and toast meal. This was blah....the omelette was watered down from the wet ham and mushroom. The sausage was not edible, the toast was a dry and thin. The only decent item on the plate was the coated french fries. I saw many people ordering a dish that seemed to be a favourite but wasn't sure what the item was.....I believe it may have been the Malaysian spaghetti/rice dish....but I could be wrong. They are only open until 4pm everyday and are closed all day Sunday. If you're part of the Monday to Friday work crowd like me that makes it tough to come here at all. Sunday would be a perfect time for me to come but they are closed. Dinner is also out of the question because of the early closure. Having said all that, if you manage to come here, this place is great. Opening the menu, you can see they have a variety of different items you can find at HK style cafes. Almost everything comes with a drink and soup. The soups here are much bigger than other HK style cafes. We ordered the curry beef brisket and a chicken steak set meal. Our little one had the macaroni soup with toast and a fried egg. The beef brisket was pretty good. I liked how it came on a separate bowl so I could choose the amount of curry in my rices. My GF's chicken steak was pretty good too. It comes with things like fries and a hot dog that I don';t normally order at HK style cafes, but she said they were good and that's good enough for me. The servers were very nice and they were able to make adjustments for our little ones food without any problem at all. I like this place a lot. I just wish their hours were a bit longer so I could come more often. I'm basically relegated to just coming for Saturday lunches and that's it. It will be a very good lunch though. read more

I try to go to HK Garden whenever I can. My favourite go to meal here is the $3.99 or $4.99 I believe congee, fried egg noodle and congee fried donuts meal. Super cheap, and superrrr filling. Good luck trying to get a seat here on a Saturday/Sunday morning, everybody seems to be rushing here for good cheap food on the weekends since HK Garden closes at 4pm. Extremely friendly service, and cheap prices. Can't complain! I do find the congee extremely bland, which I guess could be a bad or good thing depending if you're not a fan of the extra added salt that is put in congee at times. One of the better hk cafes in scarborough. It gets very busy at lunch but usually service is quick. It was my weekly lunch spot this past year and the servers are nice. There's not much oil or msg/salt in a lot of the food - and I LOVE that. The pasta dishes are pretty large in portion and they come with a drink and soup. Very respectable and cheap milk tea also - both cold and hot for about $1. I love the tomato beef macaroni soup. Tons of diced tomato...will ALWAYS order whenever I'm in the area. read more
