this is my first time going to a restaurant, purely dedicated to Nepalese cuisine. It did not disappoint. This was incredibly hearty, with a variety of textures and flavor profiles I'd highly recommend the goat bhutan and crispy kale chat as appetizers, and the yak korma as an entree. the naan was the freshest i'd ever had. The interior is also clean and sleek

Himalayan Wild Yak opened up its Arlington location (with its OG location in Ashburn) a few months ago and I waited for the hype to die down a bit before giving it a try. My work friends and I had a hard time finding parking in the area, so we had to park ~15 minute walk away. The interior is spacious and modern with the perfect AC to cool us down. YAK MOMO (8 PIECES) - 14 The momos were steamed perfectly with a wrapper that isn't too thick or thin, and each one contained a generous amount of yak meat. It was delicious and hearty, and I'd highly recommend this. NEPALI SET MEAL (YAK) - 24 This came with yak curry?, cauliflower and potato curry, lentils, and spinach. There was a sauce/dip and some rice on the side as well. I enjoyed the sides a lot. I honestly didn't know if I enjoyed the lentils or spinach more. Everything was well-seasoned with unique flavors of their own. However, I didn't like the yak curry as much as I thought. It was overly fatty to the point where it was no longer enjoyable. If I get the set meal again, I would try a different protein option. We went with yak this time because we wanted to try as many yak options as possible. GOAT CURRY - 22 The goat curry came with a generous amount of goat chunks, almost like a stew. It also came with a small pot of white rice. I enjoyed the rich flavors of the curry, and the goat flavor wasn't too gamey, and it was very tender. Some pieces contained a bit of cartilage and fat, which gave it an extra chewy texture here and there that was delicious. I enjoyed this, and would recommend it, but found it a bit too fatty. Food was pretty good, but a bit fatty. Overall, this was an affordable meal where we paid 22 per person (pre-tip) and still had ample leftovers. I'd come back for the yak momos again, and the three of us agreed that was our favorite out of the three things we tried.

I can't wait to go back! Of course it's good, Nepalese food is always good, but I gotta give huge brownie points for the new experience, providing me with the opportunity to try yak! I will say, I think I liked my wife's yak korma more than my yak shank so that's more of a testament to how amazingly delicious her dish was especially when we add in our own touch of raisins. The dessert was also something new, imagine rice pudding and flan had a baby in the Himalayas then add your own dash of cinnamon and sit back to take in the view with this simple homey treat. Now rewind to the beginning! That slightly sweet rice bread was so simple yet so captivating, it took all of my will power to save a little bit to clean up the end of the korma. I'm trying to decide if it reminded me of a more savory mochi or donut maybe. The yak momos livesld up to their reputation and were just as great as everything but the star of the show was definitely the wild boar! It was tender, juicy, unique, flavorful, I couldn't believe there was this new type of meat I had never tried and still so damn good. Someday soon I'll come back during lunch which they discount 25% woohoo

A friend brought me here. Apparently it's a chain, either way I was happy to be introduced to this spot. The food is really great , I orders a chicken curry dish that was close to butter chicken and didn't have any regrets. The service was good and the waiter had some great recommendations. Overall a very cleanly kept restaurant with great lighting and wouldn't mind stopping by to try more of their menu.

New restaurant in ballston, service was so nice and friendly. We came for dinner on a Friday night and it was packed, especially with the nice weather people were sitting on the patio. I got the cucumber cooler cocktail, and was actually pretty impressed with how good it was. My boyfriend and I got several dishes to share and everything was delicious! I definitely recommend the yak momos, with the jhol sauce, only wish they gave more jhol! We also got the palak chat, crispy pork belly, butter chicken, and goat curry. Everything was solid and I would come back to try more.

Good vibes and good food at the grand opening! Came by to try some authentic Nepali food on the day of their grand opening. I had such a wonderful experience. Every team member here that we came in contact with was so kind. They were also extremely grateful for our support. The interior of the restaurant is cute and and modern, but in an inviting way. The restaurant is decorated with beautiful artwork, fresh flowers, and napkins with traditional Nepali patterns. The food was pretty good! I personally enjoyed the yak Momo the most. I also loved the garlic naan. The cauliflower curry was also good but probably best eaten at the restaurant (I ordered takeout). The sel roti and radish were also delightful. I'm curious as to whether they'll offer lunch specials in the near future given their location. Looking forward to my next visit!

Absolutely love the food here, and the staff is so kind and helpful. I've been here probably 5-6 times and it never disappoints.

I called ahead and made a reservation although when we did get there, there was enough space to spare for a party of four. We tried the yak Momos as a starter and they were pretty tasty. Subsequently we ordered the goat curry, the butter chicken, the wild boar and mustard, and the Nepali set meal and they were all delicious.. They did have pretty loud Nepalese music playing which was a bit of a distraction. The service is good and the server was friendly and attentive. I will be trying out their other locations in our area.

Came here on a Sunday night and we made a reservation ahead of time which was a good call- lots of people there. We ordered a ton of food and shared plates. Our favorite dishes were the Yak Korma, yak momo, and wild boar soo yummy! The crispy goat was a bit dry and the crispy Kale had some odd flavors to it. The mango lassi was amazing! They also played only Taylor Swift music for the whole two hours we were there which didn't really fit the vibes and also got tiring after a while. There was also patio seating available

One of the few restaurant that offers authentic Nepalese food. Wow that kurauni and Mustangey alu I can't eat all day. I would have given 5 stars but the Wild boar had very bad smell. Overall good restaurant with great choice of Nepalese himalayan food with attentive service.

I came by for a quick drink while I waited for my ride. I was really warmly greeted and sat at the bar. I canceled my ride after I fell in love with the vibe. The initial classic cocktail I ordered was perfect so I figured I'd try a signature cocktail with some small bites. I tried two trendy dishes I had seen on social media and was so happy it was as delicious as it was beautiful. Good vibes, good drinks, delicious food. See you soon Himalayan Wild Yak!

And I'm sad we did, because the food was NOT good. We ordered - Impossible meat momos 3/5 - they were okay...not the best and not the greatest. The flavor was hiding and the momo did not stay in tact at all. The sauce that they served alongside did not enhance the momo at all. Veggie momo 3/5 - again, they were okay. In fact, I think these were worst than the impossible meat momos. Didn't seem like there was any flavor and just veggies mushed together with salt and pepper. Raita 3/5 - way too liquidy for my liking. I thought they would at least provide rice, but no. So it was just basically liquid yogurt with a couple of strips of cucumbers and carrots. Paneer chili 0/5 - the container literally said 'paneer chili' and after 2/3 bites, I asked my friend if this was actually paneer because it was kind of chewy? Of course it wasn't and it was chicken!! I'm vegetarian so I was so disappointed that they put the wrong item in our order, especially since the container explicitly said paneer. This morning I woke up with a terrible stomachache. The food definitely did not sit right with me. I'm definitely going to skip this place and try Moh Moh Licious next time.

Our friends who dined with us tonight traveled to Nepal three times - and tonights meal was spectacular. The chef sent out a course of sel roti with mooli ko achar and trust me -- the deep fried sel roti with the tanginess of the radish pickle in mustard sauce was a great start. Our dinner order was enough for 4 - with a few boxes of leftovers for tomorrow. First course/appetizers we had the crispy kale and the momo (chickened and vegetarian- both were equally delicious). For our main courses, we had the lamb chops( 3 generous and succulent chops) , the tandoori combination ( both lamb and chicken) along with the Aloo cauliflower/potatoes in curry. We also had an order of garlic naan and regular naan. Two of us had a spectacular cocktail that was rimmed with cayenne! The cocktail was great, but we were both caught a little off guard by the heat of the cayenne. For dessert we had the Rasmali - a cheese based dessert that was a lovely ending . Service was attentive , the music lively but set at a perfect volume for ambiance and conversation and timing between courses perfect. We were never hurried or left without attention. They have this perfectly orchestrated. Our Bethesda friends? They'll drive to Arlandria again thats for certain! Great meal, authentic food, fantastic service and a good value.

Was pleased to see that the restaurant is still around (and super busy). No reservations, but we were lucky enough that there were enough seats at the bar, otherwise I don't think we would've been able to eat here at all. So hard to choose from a menu where everything sounded so good. We got the palak chaat, bhindi ka lonj, gobhi mattar, mint paratha, vegetable pulao, gujarati lasagne, and chili and olive oil naan. Standouts were the palak chaat and mint paratha. The palak chaat was the most well-balanced dish that satisfied every part of the flavor wheel: crispy spinach fritters, some tang from the yogurt and tamarind, sweetness from the date, and a lovely savoriness. The mint paratha was wonderfully flaky and herbaceous. The other dishes were good, but not particularly exciting. For desserts, we had the mango rasmalai and gulab jamun. Generally love ordering gulab jamun whenever I can, and it really hit the spot. The cardamom ice cream was the perfect pairing for it. I can kind of see where they were going with the mango rasmalai and the different textures/presenations of mango, but personally did not find it to be that memorable. Overall, not as mind-blowing as I remember but still enjoyed the meal. Definitely recommend making reservations if you want a table.

This place brings South Asian culture to DC and the evidence of that is the beautiful black and white portrait collections with DC sprinkled throughout it. See if you can spot it in the image I posted! I loved it Next, their hospitality was excellent!!!!!! From the time that you walked through the doors, you're immediately greeted. Then, as soon as you sit at the table, the wait staff is attentive to your needs and uses such care to keep your water glass refilled and your table cleared between meals. Thank you! Drinks: we were there for the happy hour so we both wanted to try something special. I ordered the Chai espresso martini and my boyfriend ordered the Pili margarita. The Chai espresso martini was GOLDEN! If this drink were to go up for cocktail of the year, it would come out on top. Might I say that chai is something that you can mess up and I've had encounters where it was watered down, not the case here. I tasted the fresh and real chai and the richly brewed espresso. This drink wasn't just a martini, it warranted deep conversation with each sip. My boyfriend raved about his Pili margarita and talked about how excellent it was to taste fresh mangoes, a burst of citrus, and spiciness. A beautiful culinary combination Safe to say that both drinks were our favs!!! I also had a glass of their white wine and it was dry and refreshing. Well done! Food: we ordered several dishes from the happy hour menu. Please note that they aren't shy of providing excellent portions. Manchurian wings: a star dish! The fry on the wings were perfect but the seasoning puts this dish over the top. Highly recommended! Vegetable samosa: flaky dough with the most delectable sautéed vegetables. You'd definitely want to try a few of these! Gobi manchurian: a beautiful dish for non-meat eaters and meat eaters. Similarly to the wings, these cauliflowers were perfectly fried and seasoned to perfection. Actually, at one point, I thought that I was eating a meat dish because it was so tender and juicy inside. Please don't miss ordering these! Spicy chicken tikka: the dish that makes you ask "what spices are in this? They're EXCELLENT!" Such a juicy and tender cut with the perfect blend of flavors. Order, order, order! I think it's safe to say that we enjoyed ALL of our selections and appreciated the modern twist on Indian food classics. They didn't stray too far from the beauty of these dishes but added just enough personality to win you over. Lastly, we ordered dessert! We originally went with their bread pudding which came with cardamom ice cream but the amazing host, Dave, surprised us with their special Gulab jamun. The cardamom ice cream was AHHH-MAY-ZIN (spelled how I need you to say it!) it was amazing! But let's get into this bread pudding. I have so many questions: who is the pastry chef? How did they master such perfect bread pudding? Also, why is this dessert SO GOOD?! Best bread pudding and ice cream EVER! And I don't say that often about much bread puddings. The Gulab jamun was also my favorite because it wasn't sweet as the others and I felt so satisfied taking bites of this with the beautiful ice cream they placed on top. It's a no brainer that I'm coming back soon and that I'm going to try their dinner menu next. Please make the reservations and go support this spot, you won't regret it!

MANGO LASSI - 5 Pretty sizable glass, but I thought it was way too sweet so I didn't even finish half of the drink. However, the texture and consistency was on point. ASSORTED BREAD - 11 We got this because we wanted a lot of bread for our table of 5, but personally I only enjoyed the garlic naan out of the three bread options (garlic naan, butter naan, and roti). CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA - 20 The chicken tikka masala was tangy and creamy, but also much too sweet. I wish they let the sweetness of tomatoes shine through, but they definitely added a lot of sugar in the curry. The chicken was cooked well, at least. BUTTER CHICKEN - 20 The butter chicken is a bit more orange in color compared to the chicken tikka masala, and also much more savory and even creamier. Personally, I liked this one more, and I had no complaints with the flavor. I would recommend this if you're looking for a staple. PALAK PANEER - 19 I am a huge palak paneer fan and so is one of my teammates. The curry was a deep evergreen color with lots of paneer chunks. It was spiced pretty nicely and the texture was more smooth than chunky. I personally really enjoyed this and would recommend it for the spinach and cheese lovers! CHICKEN MOMO - 12.50 Each order came with 10, which meant 2 per person! The chicken momos were delicious, and I enjoyed them. This would be a great appetizer to share with a group, but getting it for yourself as an entree is not a bad idea. People also enjoyed the LAMB ROGAN JOSH, but I personally didn't eat much of it enough to comment. There are plenty of beer, wine and cocktail options that my teammates enjoyed. Four entrees, a bread basket, and an appetizer was more than enough for the five of us, and we didn't pay a pretty penny for all of it. The food was fine for the most part, but some missed the mark. If I were to return, I would order the butter chicken, palak paneer, chicken momo, and garlic naan for the group.
