I decided to try this place out on a Sunday afternoon. They open at 12pm and we went around 1pm and the place was pretty full. They have a dedicated parking lot which makes parking very easy. First impressions - the decor is simple and pretty. Very modern and bright. They have a few booths on the inner wall and 4 person seated tables by the window. They also have a more communal higher counter tables where you can work. Although I didn't check if they had WiFi. I was looking for a counter to order from, but alas it was those self service kiosks. While I understand that those are suppose to be efficient - in this case it was not. There was only one kiosk and a long line of people ordering. I think I stood behind this couple for like 20 minutes. After some frustration I asked what the issue was and it appeared as tough they were trying to order the half chicken but the system would not allow it. Then after yelling to the cooks at the back it turns out they were out of chicken. The half chicken is their signature dish so I couldn't understand how they ran out like 2 hours after open. Anyway- there was no sign letting people know that they were out which meant the line to order took very long. I couldn't see anyone working there beyond the guys cooking at the back so there was definitely a delay at the ordering kiosk. I think when it's busy they should have someone assisting or at least have a sign saying they sold out of something. Eventually when I ordered - the process seemed simple enough. I knew they were out of the half flame grilled chicken- so I opted for the sandwiches which came with fries and 2 sauces. The sandwich wa steady after about a 15 minute wait and it tasted nice. The sandwich wrap was pretty burnt and while I do appreciate a bit of Smokey fire flavor there were sections a bit too burnt for my liking. The chicken itself was good and they are very heavy handed with the sauce so I didn't need any extra. The size of the sandwich was pretty decent. Now / they recently opened another section on the side for smoothies, acai bowls , etc . Thinks section was empty and had empty tables. You can't really see it when you walk in the restaurant - so just turn the corner and there it is. I was going to try a dessert out but when I was told I would have to order from the one kiosk again - yeah no. I immediately left it. The line to the kiosk was too long. They def need a separate kiosk for the smoothie section- or maybe even allow you to buy at the counter. It's always nice talking to human about their offerings. The experience itself was not great and I wouldn't go back and dine in. I might go back and do a pre-order of the chicken to try it out. There was sadly just no warm welcome feeling that I would expect from a newish place. I do think that they need a front of house manager or just someone to say hi to customers and help them out. There was also no water stations at all. Now let's talk bathrooms - actually let's just say that the one bathroom they have for females was absolutely gross. There's no one cleaning it during busy times and it showed. I will need to retry this place and update my review but this was my first experience.

What a great place to get a quick bite of delicious Brazilian food! I felt like I was back in São Leopoldo sitting in a "lanchonete." The décor was green and yellow, an homage to the flag of Brazil. Ordering was done at the touch-screen computer at the counter, and in a short time, my number was called and my lunch was ready. The food was hot, fresh and so tasty. The portions were generous, and I am looking forward to finishing the leftovers I brought home. In addition to the standard selection of soft drinks, Tio Pelé has their own label of fruit and vegetable beverages. They also stock Guaraná, a favorite Brazilian soft drink. The owner was very personable and very helpful with our group. In fact, everyone on staff that I encountered was nice and friendly. There is another section in the restaurant that is all desserts. I was too full to sample one at this visit. All the more reason to go back.

Unfortunately, after a long wait in line .. it didn't "meat" my expectations! Please try it! I could be wrong! The positive side: The staff is nice and polite and the "sides" are unique and looks amazing! The negative side: I still can't believe! I saw the chicken getting grilled over charcoal with my own eyes but it didn't taste like charcoal grilled chicken! I'm afraid it's not their fault and the heavy regulations against the smoke could be causing this? Maybe? Because the other competitor also tastes the same way! No charcoal taste! What really was disappointing to me was that the chicken wasn't juicy enough! Almost dry! The menu was limited at the time I went ( the review is old, the date on the photos is accurate) maybe the other items are better? I'm sure they improved listening to the feedback! This restaurant group usually know how to make good food! They are the owners of the block, Villa Yara, Caramella and many more! They have proved that they know food! So again, I still recommend trying it and I'll try it again soon! Try it, vote for the review , message me, or compliment me with any comment or question, and don't forget to ... Pray for me ;) All my 2026 reviews are gifted to my beloved & wonderful father Sami Wahib Tawadros 01/07/1955 - 12/08/2025

Menu consist of 2 items: shawarma wrap or grilled chicken (1/2 or 1 pound). I opt for the shawarma wrap with fries! The charcoal chicken is a game changer for this wrap. Flavorful, not dry chicken!, and packed with meat. I love the sauce that pairs with this which only enhance the meal more. The fries were crispy! The shawarma wrap exceeded my expectation + was 2 meals for me with how large the wrap is. Line is long esp during business hours, limited seating, and limited parking. The other side of the restaurant is their juice shop! Service is friendly!

Staff and service was great, food came fast, the laidback decor and vibe is cool (upbeat Brazilian music + soccer). It feels like a upscale peruvian chicken with lebanese sides and spice/chipotle style. They are about to open a fresh smoothie/acai on the other side, and we were able to try the mango pinneaple coconut water one that is really yummy. We'll be back. Just missing the beer to go with futebol. :)

We went during their soft opening and they ran out of food so the manager kindly let me know I can still get a free sandwich (which is really more like a shawarma) if I come back. So I returned the week after and he kept his promise. I do think that the wait times were pretty long, especially for an order that's rather simple. I think from the moment we walked in, it took us 45 mins to get our food. The sandwich itself was okay, a bit dry in my opinion. It did come with sauces though. I wish they had some non-sour sauces. The whole meal just felt very sour. They do give you a ton of fries though. I also purchased their Habibi bowl, which is like a smoothie with avocados topped with fresh fruits, honey and pistachio. It's super unique and delicious! I would go back for this. My management seems very kind and if they can work on being faster, I think they would do well.

The owner was so nice and gave us free samples to try out the sides! He is so hospitable and what's even better is that the food was so good! The sandwich pita bread was perfect and a good portion size. They stack the chicken bowls too. I'm definitely coming back!

I'm always a bit skeptical of new restaurants that pop up who obviously pay for big social media marketing campaigns, such as the case of Tio Pele. However, I was interested in giving them a try given their unique approach to blending Brazilian and Lebanese cuisine. I was specifically interested in their take on a shawarma given the lackluster shawarmas I've experienced in the NoVa area. I've found that most places tend to water down their toum sauce in order to appeal to a wider audience who may or may not be accustomed to bold flavors. So I'm always in search of an authentic, punchy toum. Tio Pele delivers on that aspect. However, the shawarma sandwich I ordered was disappointed in that they seemed to just used chicken breast cooked over charcoal which left the chicken a bit dry and under seasoned as opposed to using a mix of breast and thigh over on a spit. The fries and sauces were great. The restaurant was nicely decorated and had plenty of seating and parking. I will likely be back to try their Brazilian dishes, but I may skip the shawarma.

I was blown away with the taste of the healthy food this place has to offer…read more We split the Blueberry Superfood Waffles and a quinoa egg bowl which I want to say had eggplant in it however it has been almost a month since we went so I cannot recall what was in it exactly, but I do remember it tasted amazing. House coffee was great and my girlfriend ended up buying one of their match teas or fancy drinks to go. We both were thrilled with this spot before we hit the road from DC back on our way to PA. As always people SYOY!!!!! Highly recommend you try some of the food here especially if you need a place that makes gluten free food.

My lunch companion and I wanted to try a new healthy place and decided on this location. Stepping…read moreinto the restaurant, we were greeted by one of the more unfriendly hosts/cashier I have encountered in a long time. She seemed to act as though our simple questions about what to order and what's popular in the menu was an inconvenience to her, although we indicated it was our first time at the restaurant. We ordered our food with the host/cashier and waited at our table for the food to be delivered. My companion's food was delivered and the server asked us if there was anything else. I said my food hadn't come and she asked me what I ordered. I told her it was the Greek goddess. I had to wait quite a long time for my meal to arrive and when it did, the server placed the plate on the table, grabbed the table number and walked away.No apology for the extended wait, no, "enjoy your meal." It was quite rude. The Greek goddess was pretty bland and my friend's soup was boring. The Falafel pita was ok. We have lots of options for lunch in Washington DC. I will not return to this establishment, ever.
