I absolutely love Indian food and am always in search of good Indian food. I have also passed this place a thousand times and never stopped until a coworker recommended it. Boy, is it a hidden gem! The food is amazing!!! I wish they still had their buffet but sadly it went away at the end of February 2024. This is definitely a place to try!
I was craving Indian food this past week and so I decided to give this place a try since it had relatively high Yelp ratings. Some of the other Indian restaurants I was looking at close early on a weekday evening but Himalayan stayed open until 9pm. My partner and I arrived at 7pm. We were seated promptly. There were about 3-4 other tables being served besides us. About 15 minutes later, we placed our orders; we ordered the butter chicken (3 star), chicken vindaloo (4 star), and garlic & basil naan. Not kidding, 1 hour later, we were still sitting there hungry, waiting for our food to come. The other tables had been served, but no waiter came by to inform us of the status of our food or anything. In fact, we hadn't seen a waiter for the past 20 minutes. We thought they forgot our order and were about to walk out when a waiter finally popped out and gave us our food. He apologized for the delay, but at the rate they served us, our meal or at least the naan should have been on the house. The food was decent, but the curries were about $20 each and the naan $5-6, and so it was not a cheap dinner for the amount of food you get. Then again, Indian food tends to be around the price range. I personally preferred the vindaloo over the butter chicken, but both were decent. The naan wasn't anything special and could've been bigger. By the time the food came around though , I couldn't eat much because my stomach was hurting from my prior hunger state. In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant was very dark. The music was also overly loud as I had to speak extra loudly across the table for my partner to hear me. The music also wasn't very tasteful and kind of annoying; it had storybook or kid TV show instrumental vibes. In addition, one of the TVs was broken and so I was just staring at a picture of corn in a skillet for the entire visit. As we were finishing our meal, the waiter came by to give us our check on a portable device. I honestly wouldn't have tipped them because of the poor service we received, but the waiter was staring at my partner and the screen as my partner got to the tip screen. My partner thus felt pressured to tip which I never think should be the case at any establishment; tip should be made willingly and reflective of the type and amount of service received. In sum, while the food was okay, a one hour wait without any service is unacceptable and needs to be improved. I would understand if they were extremely busy, but 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. Maybe they were short-handed, but sticking a piece of naan in the oven shouldn't take an hour. One other thing to note is that they add a 4% CARD SERVICE CHARGE if you don't pay with cash. Overall: 3/5 for food, 1/5 for service, 2/5 for atmosphere
For years, I drove past Himalayan Cafe as I got on or off 167 and thought "I should stop there sometime." But I was always on my way somewhere and the timing was never right. Last year, our dog was very sick at the nearby Blue Pearl vet hospital, and we had to wait around for a few hours. We were hungry and decided to check out Himalayan Cafe. We walked over there, only to find they closed from 3-4pm. (The hours on Yelp say 11 am to 9:30 pm, but they close for an hour at 3 pm.) The employee saw us looking at the hours on the door, and came out and offered to take our order. That was really nice, and we asked if we could sit at the outdoor table to eat. I felt like the server really went above-and-beyond, coming out and serving us, even refilling our water, while we sat outside. Since then, we've been back for takeout a few times, and all of our meals have been fabulous. Some of my favorite menu items are the chicken pokora appetizer and chicken coconut. They also have many vegetarian options for your Meatless Monday enjoyment, and when I order ahead, the bag is carefully packed and there waiting when we arrive. Highly recommend!
This is one of our favorite Indian restaurants. We went yesterday on a Friday evening for dinner. It was not busy at all and we were seated right away. Vaccination cards are currently required for dine-in and staff wear masks which we really appreciate. We ordered the vegetable samosas, vegetable pakora, butter chicken, fish tikki masala, and garlic naan. Rice also comes with the main dishes. Everything was delicious, portions are generous and we had plenty of leftovers to take home to eat for another meal! Staff is also very kind, attentive and friendly! The vibe of the restaurant is quiet and relaxed. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Ok, I showed up with the girlfriend. We ordered and now have waited 25 minutes, still no food. The food showed up; my GF had the lemon rice, and I had the lamb Bintyri. Not bad overall food was good with fair portions. We were the only customers in the building. It took 35 minutes to get our food. They also played the same song the entire time we were in the restaurant. I would recommend this establishment. The visit was bizarre.
Unfortunately the food is below average or average at best. I was especially disappointed based on other positive reviews. Dahi bhalla was hard and not at all fresh. Gobi Manchurian tasted decent but not authentic how its supposed to taste like. Thupka soup and fried rice are just ok not really good enough. Service was fine. Ambience and prices are reasonable.
I was initially a little uncertain about this place after a recent 1 star review about service, but I'm glad they seem to have read and taken feedback seriously. We were all Asian customers and the waiter was super friendly and quick to respond. Ambience wise looks quite upscale / romantic, even though the food is quite well priced. We ordered vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala, garlic and basil naan, and saag curry. The dishes were quite heavy and filling, which is excellent after a casual hike at Twin Falls earlier. Just like the typical samosas, they were packed with calories and one is already sufficient for a light half meal. The chicken tikka masala is quite rich, and the chicken biryani is jam packed with spices. The yogurt didn't give much additional flavor because the biryani itself is very flavorful. A friend ordered the saag and he liked it a lot, but I wasn't much of a fan of that. The garlic and basil Naan smells a little bit weird, but once you dig in and get a bite, it is super flavorful and aromatic. Food arrived very quickly, which might be because they prepared food in batches as if they had the lunch buffet (they discontinued that), but the food quality is up there. Value-wise is still good, without overstuffing ourselves, and we ended up having leftovers which were still fresh the next day. I haven't tried much Indian places within the city of Seattle, and this place is a bit far (normally no car), but this is one of the better Indian food out here so far
We went on Sunday afternoon. It was very quiet, only about 3-4 other parties. It's a little dark, but they do have a spotlight lamp above each table. There was only one waitress. Too a while for them to take our order, but the food came out very fast. Food was tasty. My husband and I shared an appetizer and entree. Entrees run between 15-30 dollars. Lots of stuff on the menu. Heads up- at this time they are not currently doing a lunch buffet. They are also closed from 3pm - 4:30pm and completely closed on Tuesdays
Came here today after work because my daughter was craving for Indian food. As always, Himalayan Cafe have provided quality food and excellent service. The food is consistently delicious! Our favorite go to Indian restaurant in the area. Must try: Curried Mussel with garlic naan, Lamb Biryani, Butter Chicken, Palak Lamb, Mint Goat, Chicken Rohan Josh, yummy!
We came in as a party of two on Saturday a little before noon. The first thing we noticed is how good the restaurant smelled-it was incensy and soothing (we aren't sure if it was incense but whatever it was, it was amazing). We ordered these dishes to split: (3 star spice on both Aloo Tikki and Chana Masala). Aloo Tikki - these potatoes were indulgent. We couldn't get enough of the sauce, which was a yogurt and tamarind chutney. We could have put this sauce on everything. We think it may have had jaggery which gave this a pleasant sweetness. The spice was perfectly balanced in these. Chana Masala - this flavorful masala came with a side of jasmine rice. This was fantastic-I would highly recommend this to anyone. I am not a vegetarian myself, but this on par with their excellent chicken tikki masala. Punjabi Salad-fresh tomato, onion, cucumber. Simple and refreshing-this balanced our meal. The service, ambiance and food were absolutely outstanding. This was my first experience dining in Himalayan cafe, and it won't be my last. I love how many options were on the menu for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. There were options for everyone of every dietary preference, so I would recommend them to absolutely everyone.
As soon as I got seated (which was super quick), I was served papad & chutney. The chutneys were really good. Got the vegetarian momos. The quality and quantity were good. The chutney it came with wasn't spicy but tangy. Asked for some hot sauce to add on, and that combination made it tasty!! The momo filing had veggies as expected, but no paneer, and the wrapped layer wasn't too thick (which I've found a lot other momos places around have). Would have given one star less due to the time it took for my order to arrive. I hadn't anticipated a 20 mins wait for 1 dish, but momos are required to be steamed for 15 mins. I'm not sure what they could have done to make it quick, hence the 5 stars. I've just had one dish here because I wanted to try only that. However, they seemed to have a lot more options for vegetarian/vegan. The cleanliness wasn't up to a standard (the water pitcher had stains on & I spotted a thread or dust on my plate & glass).
I gave the food 4 stars for taste. But the portion is small for the price, especially considering you are charged a 4% fee for using a credit card to pay. We ordered 3 curries (Nepalis goat curry, butter chicken, and paneer), tandori chicken and 1 garlic naan, which was over $90 after tax and tips. We went for dinner on a weekend. The inside is dimly lit and felt a bit dirty. It wasn't busy, and there seems to only be one waiter working. She was friendly, and came to check on us a couple times. read more
We came upon this place while we were in the area and decided to be a bit adventurous. Although the restaurant seemed a bit empty when we walked in and the server was originally nowhere to be found, he appeared after a bit. The interior of the restaurant was very unique and different than any other restaurant we've been to. The server gave us a few minutes to look over the menu and came back and recommended many different dishes to us. He also asked us what our spice tolerance was and used that to give more specialized recommendations. We ordered a chicken curry dish that he said was the chef's specialty, a chicken dish that came on a hot plate, and garlic naan. The flavors were very great and we were happy with the portion size. We thought they could have given a bit more sauce with the curry since the dish they used to serve it seemed a little small but the amount of chicken in there was great. The dishes also came with rice which was nice. We'll definitely be back in the future to try out more of their menu. At the end of our meal, the chef even came out and asked us if we liked the food. The garlic naan was also very yummy. We enjoyed our time there! read more
I was a bit skeptical to go here because of the general bad reviews in the recent times. But I can't call myself a gourmet if I don't experiment and take risk. And it turns it was not as bad as was depicted in the reviews. Tried the chowmein and the masala chai. Both were good. Service was fast as well. I have to try more dishes to give an elaborate review but the food isn't bad for sure. This place lost me in its atmosphere. The interiors are very rundown. Feels like I am eating in a cave. Also, I felt this place lacked on the cleanliness part. Overall, a decent one-time try. And keep in mind that spice levels here are elevated. I ordered spice level 3 and it was spicy for me. So non-browns might want to stick to 2. read more

Great food and the service was top notch! This was our second time at this restaurant and we had a great experience both the times. We tried the paneer Tikka lababdaar with garlic naan and the Himalayan fried rice with eggs. Both delicious. The fried Rice was BOMB! Will definitely return to try the other items on the menu! read more

I have wanted to try this place for a while, just not usually in the area. Decor is warm and inviting as an atmosphere. Menu is truly quite impressive for a first time it's hard to decide between. "Chicken Thupka Soup" -Tibetan noodle soup with chicken and vegetables, and the "Chicken Vegetables Soup" -House special soup prepared with white meat and vegetables? Choosing the, Thupka Noodles heat level 3,) which is........ (Review written live) fantastic and a new favorite! read more

Ambiance: dim lighting provides a more intimate ambiance. Soft music playing in the background made for a great addition to the meal. Server: soft spoken, calm, and professional. Sometimes it's difficult to get their attention but when they see you they nod and head your way. Food: SO DELICIOUS. I don't even like to eat lamb. But I decided to try the lamb Tikka Masala because my sis said it was good and IT WAS. Just so much flavour and I choose 0 spice but their still is a light kick due to the spices but nothing major and didn't distract me from enjoying the meal. Lamb was tender and not tough or chewy! Garlic Naan wa great, a bit on the crispy side at some parts, I would've liked more dough but still enjoyable. Veggie pakoras were great, crispier than other pakoras I've had but still so delicious with the chutneys! Small con is that the grapefruit soda had slight debris on top since it's a can, so not a big deal but next time it would be nice to have it wiped off with a clean cloth. I just wiped it off myself. 2nd con the pitcher of water didn't look clean, either stained or whatever but I wasn't their to drink water anyways lol! Overall, I look forward to returning here and trying more dishes!! read more

The appetizer dish Aloo Tikki was mehhhh. The texture of the potatoes with garbanzo beans tasted really dry and cold from the inside. I am not even sure if the texture is supposed to be like that. It gave almost like they just got it out freezer and served it. The star of the dish was definitely the Goa Fish! Highly recommend if you are looking for a creamy curry. Also portion for entrees are small :/ read more

Came to dinner time with 5 guests first time. We ordered Chicken Tandoori, Samosas, Fish Chili and Pork curry with Basmati Rice and Garlic & Basil Naan and Green Chili Naan. * 2 naans each ordered. Some meal come with Basmati Rice. First drinks (waters), 3 kind of chutney with crispy cumin spice thin snack came in. A little salty taste. Fish Chili dish came and waiting for naan little while... Second dish Chicken Tandoori came in a very hot iron plate but still no naan or basmati rice. Third dish Pork curry came in....Naan & basmati rice came last. Naan was leftover I wish Naan served earlier. We could eat meals with Naans more. Otherwise everything good. I want to try lunch buffet next time read more

I love the interior of this restaurant. Our server treated us with polite manner. Food came out in good time. Food was great. I think the portion was kind of small but we had to take it home. It is more than what you see. It was my first time trying the spinach curry, it was very spinach-y and I enjoyed it. Paneer butter masala is my all time favorite and it cannot go wrong. For me, galic nann was alright. read more
Substantial portions, wide selection, clean environment, and great service! This place is a well rounded restaurant with some pretty fire food. The samosas are amazing with a kick of heat and the vegetarian ones are equally as delicious if not more. The naan here is exceptionally good. I've had many naan where the texture was too doughy and resembled more of pita bread and though it wasn't the worst thing in the world, I can proudly say this place does it just right. I'm unusually picky about my butter chicken but this place has really won my heart over. The flavor is insane. What wasn't so perfect was the chicken- which was noticeably tough but didn't take away much from an otherwise nearly perfect dining experience. read more
Papadum gratis while perusing the menu. So tasty! Would be worth ordering on the side! Feeling adventurous (as always) I ordered the Kukhura ko Masu (nepalese chicken curry). Of course, I ordered 4/5 spicy... which had the waitress respond with a "Uhhh... Are you sure? 4 is spicy." Yep. I have the white guy curse. Hopefully they don't serve "white guy 4" rather than "regular spicy 4". Also ordered two orders of garlic basil naan. ... Naan was fluffy and DELICIOUSNESS. Not sure if it was premade or reheated, but either way it was GOOOOOOD. Kukhura was wonderfully tasty, with GENEROUS portions of chicken. (I'd recommend precutting the chicken to smaller bites before digging in, though, as the cuts are a bit large.) VERY adequate spice. No white-guy adjustment made here! I'd definitely return for a 5 and 5+, though. Tip these people well. They deserve it! read more

We came here after reading the great reviews on Yelp but were a bis disappointed by the execution. Prices here are more expensive than the average Indian place. Butter chicken was $17 and at other restaurants I've seen this at $13-14. This place does give you a couple more pieces of chicken but you're paying for it so I wouldn't consider the portion size generous. They asked us for our preferred spice level but failed to achieve it. The butter chicken had good flavor but no heat even though we asked for 3 stars. The biryani had more heat but lacked on the flavor. I also disliked the giant spices used. It made for an unpleasant experience cracking into one of them when I was expecting the soft rice. Some condiments were given to go with the food. My dining companion did not feel well after consuming these. I've never shied away from jar type condiments but I I think I'll have to rethink that policy. The restaurant was very cold like the heat wasn't on. Both of us kept our puffy jackets on during the meal. I also dislike how this place uses Styrofoam takeout containers. Plastic or paper is better for the food and the environment. Be careful reviewing the bill. I was overcharged on the biryani by $3 and she went back to correct my bill. I'm not going to come again for dinner but I'll check out the lunch buffet since that's seems like a much better deal. read more

Yes this is the one for me! I go through seasons of being obsessed with certain type of food, and currently Indian food "hits the spot". Loved this place! 1. Lovely ambiance.
