I love Indian food. The husband not so much. So it's not often that I indulge. Today I was craving Indian food and in particular, I wanted to try biriyani, as I had been reading about it in a novel (power of suggestion, ya'll). I have seen this spot and knew it was close by, as well as near several other enticing shops and eateries. Right away the smell that envelopes you as you walk in was so fragrant and wonderful. Then you are received with a warm greeting from a gracious gentleman I would guess is the owner. He took my order, making suggestions, and offering me water while I waited (take out). The food came out piping hot. Brought it home and popped it open immediately. The vegetable samosas are gigantic, not spicy, filled with potato and peas, with the requisite crunchy outside. We tried "no spice" (zero) vegetable biriyani and chicken biriyani. It came with two generous containers of yogurt sauce, as well as two smaller containers of other condiments. Everything was delicious and it was a relief to find that when this place says not spicy they mean it (as oftentimes, a restaurant's default is still spicy even when you ask for none). Stumbled upon this place while we were at Southcenter mall, looking for an Indian place to eat. It was close to our location and parking wasn't a hassle. We didn't realize they offer lunch buffet until we showed up there. Ambiance of this place is just casual. Nothing exuberant about this. The buffet wasn't quite ready - so we have been given the menu to place the order ala carte. They really do have some solid options - so many varieties of Naan was a big surprise. Apart from the normal Indian entrees, they also offers the fusion snacks as well. But by the time we finalized what we want to order, the buffet was ready. So eventually tried the buffet. They did have the Tandoori chicken as appetizer. Karahi, Butter and regular chicken curry as meat options. No Goat curry in buffet. Channa Masala, Paneer Tikka Masala, Potato dopiyaza and Dal Makhani as veg options. Also the pakora and naan. Rice options were Jeera rice and vegetable rice. They do have small salad bar also, along with some dessert options. Options were decent. The curries were good. Great with Naan and jeera rice. Tandoori chicken was absolutely delicious - everyone loved it. The appetizer and dessert options were not great. I expected better options for $20 buffet. Just a kheer will not cut for dessert. They do offer lower buffet price for kids under 12, but they did charge us the adult rate for kids. I didn't notice it at that time, unfortunately. Overall rating is 3.5! read more

Indian Curry Palace has brought back their lunch buffet and introduced new items like dosas and tacos. The husband orders the masala dosa everytime now and I love their noodles. We typically order vegetarian dishes only but we've brought carnivorous friends and their meat dishes are just as good! The staff is very nice and fairly accommodating. The owner lady knows me well enough that she'd remind me to skip cilantro when I forget! I have a pretty low spice tolerance so she'd make recommendations and help me navigate the menu. As someone who has had Dosas in multiple countries, across several continents, and from an array of ethnicities; I can confidently say this was the worse Dosa I've ever had. To start, the restaurant is in desperate need of remodeling. Even the plastic barrier from early COVID days was showing its' age. The paint job over the accents put on the wall look as if they were done by a 7 year old. The floor made the same sound as the sweat covered cushioned floor at a gym. I should I have listened to my intuition and left before it arrived. In a nearly empty restaurant, with the majority (outside of two take away orders) already having their food, it took nearly 30 minutes to receive what ended up being my punishment for having a craving for my people's food. Upon receipt of the dish, I already knew what fate had in store for me. What they called "chutney" tasted like green tap water, with a hint of coconut, and looked like what my dog throws up after eating too much grass. The "beige" variety, which I assumed was supposed to be coconut chutney, had lost its' flavor months ago and all that was left was the punch of freezer burn and depression. The best part was they provided something along 2 tablespoons of each. The sambar, and the dosa itself, was like having salt spoon fed to me. I'm all for supplementing electrolytes, but I like to utilize different, and healthier, avenues for that. The filling of the paneer dosa was simply sloppily chopped tomatoes and shredded paneer. No herbs, no chilies, no peas, no love. If I had to guess, I'd say the restaurant lost its' heart decades ago and has been scraping by since. The food is always amazing here both at lunch and dinner. Last time I had the dosas I shared it with everyone at the table and they all wished they had ordered it. The sauces they serve with it are to die for! My four year old loves the paneer tika masala, lots of flavor and we get it with a 1 on the spice scale, and it's perfect for her. Great vegan options! It's probably not entirely fair to judge a smaller Indian restaurant solely by its lunch buffet but, as that's all that I've tried, I don't suppose I have any other option. The food was pretty decent - what little there was of it - but, by 1:00, most of the dishes were down to just sauce without much meat, the naan took forever to arrive and was quickly gone, the salad section was simply lettuce, cucumber slices, ranch dressing, and marinated chickpeas, there were no samosas or popadoms, and the bill came to $21.00, which is frankly ridiculous for such a skimpy selection. The service, once I was seated by the owner (?) consisted of the delivery of a pint glass, a pitcher of tap water without ice, and a napkin - no "how are you doing" or "can I get you anything else" to be seen, nor any water ever poured for me. The attitude seemed to be "it's a self-serve buffet so self-serve already". (If you're wondering, there were two waiters and the owner on the floor, so staffing levels were no excuse.) As to the decor and general atmosphere, my shoes stuck to the mats around the buffet stations, the dark and murky carpeting is old and hasn't been cleaned in decades, and the wooden chairs are sticky with years of grime and residue. I truly dislike posting negative reviews like this but, honestly, I was both disappointed and more than a little disgusted by the whole experience. I'll not be back and I don't recommend trying this place yourself. read more

This is a tale of two flavors. Pre pandemic buffet and post pandemic a la carte ordering. The lunch buffet was reliably decent. A solid but not amazing clearly high value lunch buffet was a popular spot for us when in the area. Luckily they survived the pandemic and the buffet is no longer a thing and it has been transformative. Every dish is much better. Thicker, richer and packed with flavor. Quality over quantity. We've been multiple times now and it's been great every time. Very happy about that. We had the garlic naan, goat curry and chicken saag masala. Ordered 3 stars. Plenty of heat - you'll feel it the next day :D but really delicious. We had a pretty funny moment at our visit. The couple one table over ordered a few dishes. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop but I could have sworn they ordered their food and requested *six* stars. Didn't really think anything of it until their food arrived, steaming hot. The couple ordering the food starting coughing. The table east of them started coughing. A few seconds later my wife and I were coughing too - that apparently is what happens when you get some insane pepper vapors in the air. Whoa! It was short lived but amusing. To put an exclamation point on the episode a few minutes later the chef peeked out into the dining room with a scarf covering his face which I am assuming was protection from the peppers. I discovered this gem of a restaurant during COVID and have been a huge fan since. As a foodie, I'm ashamed to say I don't venture out more and try different cuisines but as a human, I'm a creature of habit. I always eat what I eat and get too comfortable. While I was living in Burien, I enjoyed coming here almost once a week to order the Mango Chicken and some naan! So delicious! I got the meet the owners and how they were struggling during COVID like many other businesses but they stuck through and hope they are doing great! I had a period of time I had to go dairy-free for health reasons and they were so accommodating, literally the nicest people ever! Just so you know, if you wanted to get the Mango Chicken dairy free, it's totally possible! And it tastes really good! I'm sad that I don't live close enough to visit more often but their portions are very generous for takeout, did I mention their naan is so freakin' delicious?
