He was absolutely wonderful and made our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration UNFORGETTABLE!!! Celebrating 50 years of marriage is a hugh and once-in-a-life-time milestone, and having Robert choreograph the whole show was indeed one of our best decisions! We had 123 guests at our party. We had singers to serenate us, speakers to roast us and tell our life stories, dancers to perform for us ... and Robert put everything together Amazingly from beginning to end. As Seniors (in our mid-70s) we really appreciated how he was in every respect - very personable, attentive, professional, and truly understood our wishes!! Robert worked so well with our Speakers, Singers and Dancers. He even handled all the guests during photo sessions and open floor dancing ... effectively and efficiently! We packed the dinner/dance/games party with such a full program that the event ended up more than 1 hour behind schedule, which could have been totally stressful, but Robert remained calm and completely in command!! He kept the flow going, coordinated everything on the floor, and made sure the celebration continued smoothly without making any guest feel that anything was off-kilter and out of control. And then I have to mention the highlight of the evening: Robert managed to get all the guests onto the dance floor for a group photo in just 2 minutes! That was incredible, we were all shocked how it was done without chaos and confusion!! So many things to rave about when it comes to Robert and his team: Robert spent a lot of time getting to know both me and my now husband, prior to booking. He wanted to make sure he knew what kind of event we wanted, what traditions or customs we would be recognizing, and what vibes we wanted with our crowd! Linnie is sweet and funny, not cringey or anything at all - just pure joy! Next, Robert selected DJ Derrick to be our DJ of the night. I'm so glad he did because Derrick truly delivered the ~*vibes*~ all night long!! All of the songs we selected for entrances went off without a hitch, he played amazing music for the reception (we booked them for reception only) during dinner, sneaking in a few of my absolute favorite songs that I really wanted to hear, and then he kept the dance floor busy all night! I loved the selection of music that really fit our preferences and our guests' preferences. He read the crowd and knew what music would keep the energy high and by the end of the night, I nearly lost my voice because I was having the best time dancing and singing. Robert really is the best DJ/MC that we could have ever gotten for our wedding on 3/22/25. From the moment we met him, my husband and I already knew that he would be perfect. He always goes above and beyond. He got to know both of us personally and helped us create a timeline that would work best. My husband gets an "asian glow" when drinking so he advised us to do some of the usual entertainment like mother/son & father/daughter dance earlier in the day so my husband could start drinking later in the night when pictures would not be all on us during the dancing. I was very nervous that my family and friends would not be as excited or involved as I hoped. This was not the case. He is VERY good at hyping up a crowd. There are two things that I personally look forward to most when going to weddings: the photo booth and the music/dancing. This did not change when planning for my own wedding. Enter Robert. My husband and I were introduced to him by our planner who highly recommended him as a DJ and MC. His company also provided everything needed for the wedding ceremony as well as the photo booth so it was like an all in one package deal for us. Eric and I have nothing but good things to say about Robert. He was always so enthusiastic, so friendly, so professional. We could tell he loves what he does. We had three official meetings - one to get to know each other, one to discuss some details with my dad (more on this later), and one to finalize all the details for the wedding day. He took great care each meeting to really delve into the nitty gritty of what we would want and not want for our wedding day. He was such a great listener during those meetings. But even beyond that, throughout the entire planning process, Robert made himself available to us by email and text. We never had a doubt about reaching him one way or the other. His passion translates to great energy on the day of the wedding. As MC, he really was able to hype up the bridal party and also hype up the guests to keep everyone excited about the wedding night. He was able to keep people engaged on the different activities that would be happening throughout the night. Something that he went out of his way on was regarding the father-daughter performance. Instead of a dance, my dad wanted for us to do a singing performance together and so, Robert worked with him personally to figure out the details of the performance. He made it a priority. Had an impromptu meeting with us to figure out the details. Even spent extra time with my dad during sound set up on wedding day to make sure that everything with the performance could go smoothly. It was a really special moment to sing with my dad on my wedding day so we really appreciate Robert helping to set this up. As for the music, I am so grateful to Robert for working with us to make sure he played what we really wanted to hear throughout our wedding night to give us the mostly 90s-2000s vibes we wanted while seamlessly incorporating music as requested by my dad so that all the guests of all generations could enjoy. He fit in a mini emo set during dancing because it was something I really wanted. Even played a song three times in the night because I didn't hear it the first two times (sorry Robert lol). We had so many music requests and he was able to accommodate them all. At the end of our wedding, the photo booth was hit for everyone and so was the dance floor! We were looking for a DJ/MC and had no idea where to look until we booked our photographer Kevin Le Vu (shout out to KLV Weddings, his team was also a blessing to work with!) and we asked Kevin if he knew of any DJ/MCs. Kevin said, "This guy Robert is FUN. Amazing guy to work with." Intrigued, my then fiance Jack (obv now husband) and I made an appointment to meet Robert. I think we met Robert in February 2020? We were so impressed... Robert was so well put together, not just in appearance (such a sharp dresser) but you can tell he really cares about what he does and he knows it really well. We felt like we were going to be in good hands, so we booked him as our officiant as well after that first meeting! Robert was going to be our officiant, DJ, and MC all in one. Best snap decision we've ever made. Little did we know, all hell would break loose and soon we were in the throes of a pandemic. The next 18 months were so crazy, planning a wedding in all the uncertainty that came with lockdown and hearing about other couples' weddings being cancelled or postponed. But one of the few things we knew we never had to worry about was how much we could trust Robert as a wedding vendor. Always very responsive, prompt, supportive even when we were stressing out! We sat on a 2 hour Facetime call with Robert where he asked us what was really most important to us at our wedding. Aside from that, he called my husband days before our wedding (unbeknownst to me) to ask how things we going, and also to ask more questions to add a personal touch to our ceremony that he was about to officiate. He really really gets to know the couples he works with and it shows. Let me just break it down into his roles to make my review a little more organized. Officiant: Robert sent us a questionnaire asking us about our relationship and the best parts of it. It definitely helped him get a grasp of who we are as a couple. So well, that our guests thought Robert was one of our longtime friends! Our vows were so personalized, Jack and I were so impressed by the attention to detail and how much thought was put into the entire ceremony. MC: Robert is the best hype man! So much energy and positive vibes! We had a pretty shy and reserved wedding party, but he was able to bring out the best in them and give them that confidence boost they needed for the wedding party entrance! We had only one wedding game, but our guests were talking about it for weeks after. In fact, I've even had guests tell me our wedding was THE BEST wedding we've ever been to. So organized and put together without being dead serious and boring. Our whole reception just flowed so well, from dinner to game to dancing. Above all, Robert has just such great stage presence. When he speaks, everyone pays attention! And he just speaks so clearly and with much confidence. You can tell he's very experienced with hosting large events. Robert is also Filipino like I am, so he's very experienced with dealing with meddling family elders who want to hijack the reception playlist lol. DJ: Robert sent us another detailed questionnaire asking which music genres were ok or not ok, what songs to play for each part of the wedding and ceremony, etc. Our music was on point! Have you ever been to a wedding where you feel like you get musical whiplash because the DJ plays EDM then abruptly switches to country music then hiphop? Or a wedding where the DJ just leaves and has a playlist that sounds like those lo fi Youtube channels? (True story, I've been to both kinds.) Robert is definitely NOT that kind of DJ! The music flows so well, and is tailored to your own musical tastes. I was always the type of person to have imaginary background music playing in my head (like movies or Korean dramas lol) and the music at our wedding was everything I had imagined it to be. The music was just so...US. :) We had people on the dancefloor until the lights had to go back on. Robert knows how to read the crowd's energy and will steer the playlist in a direction that'll keep people dancing. I think the most memorable part about our experience with Robert actually came after the wedding. One of my wedding guests told me he ran into Robert in the outside world and he told Robert he had so much fun at our wedding because he was our DJ/MC. A few months later, this friend was diagnosed with a serious illness and he told me that my wedding was probably one of the last happy "normal" memories he made with his wife before his diagnosis. I've known Robert personally for a long time and I knew if I'd need a DJ for my wedding, he would be my first choice. So when I reached out to him when I started planning my wedding reception, I got to see the professional side of Robert. From day 1, his priority is to make our ideal wedding reception become reality. Not only did he ask for music/entertainment preferences, but he asked us "what is most important for you personally" and other outside-the-box questions to really get a feel of how we valued our reception. Our main objective was simple: to make sure our guests have a great time at our dinner reception. Due to COVID, we had to postpone our wedding six months, move reception from indoors to outdoors, and removed the dance floor. Robert was gracious and flexible: he worked with us and checked in on our plans, even if they were to change. Not only is Robert an amazing DJ and MC, he really acts as another core support to help plan your wedding to perfection. We talked a lot before our wedding and he really helped us think a lot through of the potential things that could happen and how to avoid them/improve them. The Skinny: If you are looking for a hype man, DJ, entertainer, and all-around good guy to emcee your wedding, look no further! Professionalism: Rob is one of the most professional yet personable individuals I've ever met! I had already encountered him a few times since he was the emcee for a few of my friends' weddings where I was on the wedding party. Every single time, he was consistent in his professionalism. When it came to my wedding, it was no different. Rob makes sure that you aren't just another client, but that he gets to know you as a human being. He truly shows that he cares for you. Rob met with my wife and I in an initial meeting, and my wife immediately knew we had to book him for our wedding (even though I had no doubt on that before he met her)! The care he took with having us work with him was very refreshing, and he was always reachable when we had questions or had something we wanted to add. Our wedding was very customized where we also added in an escape room-type game, and Rob was more than happy to "gamemaster" it with our given instructions. Organization: Rob uses shared documents where we can all edit it together to keep things organized. He makes sure that we provide the necessary information by certain milestone dates, and he is always responsive with when we have questions on particular entries in the documents. Having the documents prepared for us to fill out was a lifesaver, and Rob also works with many other vendors and has developed a number of relationships over the years, so it's always great that he can get things moving along if we feel that there's a need to. Skills: HYPE HYPE HYPE! If anything, when Rob emcees your event, nobody will EVER get bored. He can hype anything up as long as he knows what we want to be hyped. For things like party games, we weren't really sure what to do, but Rob's vast experience allowed him to pull these off with no issue at all. In addition, his DJing is still impressive and crowdpleasing, which is what we wanted in our wedding. You just can't go wrong with his experience and skills! Conclusion: If I could give more than 5/5, I would! Very fair pricing, very impressive skills and professionalism. Couldn't thank Robert enough for making our wedding day so memorable.  He worked with us from the beginning keeping us in check with due dates for choosing our songs.  Providing us with great recommendations as to what types of music we wanted.  He provided us with a great bilingual co-mc that speaks Vietnamese and English to accommodate to our guests.  We also had our first slow dance and hip hop dance coordinated to performed for our guest on our wedding day.  He worked well with all the event vendors, including making sure the 4 big screen TV's and audio systems were ready to go. Where do I begin to rave about Robert? We knew that having the right MC will set the tone for our reception, and we were 110% confident that we had found "the" one after our first call. Allow me to begin by mentioning that my husband and I planned a Pasadena wedding while living near San Francisco, so communication was crucial to us. Robert was very understanding of this and would make time for phone calls, Skype sessions, e-mails, and text messages. He wasted no time in taking care of us. Our biggest concern was having an American-Vietnamese wedding fusion, and Robert worked on that with us since the first day. He suggested ways we could honor our heritage and traditions while still having the Western wedding we wanted. He partners with other bilingual MCs, so he recommended Linnie as our English-Vietnamese liaison. Together, they worked seamlessly and led a night that was lively, modern, and fun, all the while being traditional enough to please the elders. Our guests are still talking about Robert over a month and a half later! They loved his enthusiasm, charisma, and the energy he brought to the stage. He engaged all of our guests to participate in exciting games and coaxed out our shier guests to drop by the dance floor. Robert is a DJ/MC that simply blew us away. Our wedding was a mixed of all ages and cultures (Chinese and Latin) and we had no idea how the vibe would be. We felt our wedding was going to be a fun one, but we didn't expect it to be so fun that people stayed on the dance floor until the venue literally had to kick us out! Robert was a master of bringing the energy and even getting the most shy and sober guests into getting involved in the party games, dance games, sing-alongs and the dance floor. Robert has a way of communicating and bringing this energy that just makes people comfortable and wanting to just have fun. Robert was even able to get all our Aunties and Uncles dancing all night long (we had 50+ years olds dancing for 2 hours non-stop in heels!) to the point where they told us their entire body was sore the next day, but it was the most fun they have ever had! I noticed that Robert was a master of being able to read a room, control the tempo of how everyone was feeling and making sure that the energy was kept up non-stop the entire night. We didn't have the most detailed playlist so Robert learned and created this playlist that literally spoke to our souls. Without directly telling Robert, it somehow felt like knew everything about us. He played so many classic songs that made our family remember very fond childhood memories like when we were kids hanging out with the family at backyard parties dancing with our parents, uncles, aunties and family when life was simple and happy. Robert did multiple interviews and consultations with us and made the entire process very simple and straightforward. Robert seemingly remembers every little detail you tell him, and he is a master of probing you to learn more what you're looking for and how you want to feel. We really felt taken care of before and even during the wedding by going out of the way to help us around the venue and making sure that we were fully pampered as the bride and groom. Everyone we talked to after the wedding kept on mentioning how much fun they had and how it really felt like a family union and that it felt like those one of a lifetime moments were everyone was simply just HAPPY. read more

This review is long overdue!! My husband and I booked Robert for our wedding in November 2018. We could not have been happier with our decision. Robert is meticulous, detailed, & organized. Because of him we did not even need a coordinator. He was there every step of the way with us. Robert really gets to know you and customizes to your needs. We told him that we wanted to have a couple hours just to dance and mingle with our family and friends and boy did he deliver! We started exactly on time, which is unheard of for an asian wedding! Robert kept the energy going all night & played all of the songs we requested. The dance floor was packed the entire night! His games are also fun & creative. He goes into the crowd and is not afraid of all these drunk people coming at him.. The MC Robert referred us to was also amazing! Linnie is so sweet and her Vietnamese is so fluent. My husband and I hired Hilo Productions for lighting, drapery, and DJ/MC services for our wedding, and we are so glad we did! The team helped us create an unforgettable night. We had been considering some lower-budget alternatives, but felt uneasy because we couldn't find the connection we were looking for. After watching several of Robert's videos, we knew we wanted him at our wedding, and after we hired him, everything just clicked! He spent a significant amount of time speaking with my fiance and me to understand our priorities. Where do I start? From the beginning to the end, Robert definitely exceeded my expectation. I met Robert at a friend's wedding that he was involved in. Decided to contact him and see what else he could do. I'm so happy I did! He was so involved in our entire wedding. He always made sure we were ahead of the game and that we got everything we wanted. Where do I begin?! :D I am a wedding coordinator by trade, and HiLo Productions was my choice for my own wedding this past August. The owner, Robert, is very enthusiastic and gave us a rundown of the whole planning process process -- timeline, DJ & MC introductions, family introductions, toasts, fun ideas to get the party going, list of different genres for song selections, etc. Robert was also amazing at putting us at ease throughout the whole process, and did a great job coordinating with our vendors for a wonderfully seamless event! We are regular festival-goers so naturally we had high expectations. We gave our DJ, Jason, a not-so-easy task of mixing a huge variety of different styles and genres, from Disney to HipHop to EDM and he really *obliterated* all of our wildest expectations! Going into our wedding, I was stressed that things were not going to pan out the way we had envisioned. What helped me get over these thoughts was making sure we work with great people that are experienced and know what they're doing. I'm happy to say that Robert Hilo was without question the perfect person for us to have met and worked with. He was very reassuring that things were going to work out and when there were times of confusion and some frustration, he was there to do his best to keep things rolling. I'm sure there were plenty of times that neither we or Robert had expected certain things on happening but he was professional throughout. Didn't help that it was early September and we were caught in the hottest weekend of the summer for an all outdoor wedding. The crowd loved him and he played off their energy. The best of the best!!! Guaranteed! My apology that this review is long over due, DJ Robert. My wife and I got married last year on Aug 20, 2016. I went through yelp to see some of the DJ's down in my area and it was the best decision that we made to picked DJ Robert. He was our DJ, MC, decorated the venue and led the whole reception from the beginning to the end. DJ Robert made us feel so comfortable during our wedding planning and gave us the reassurance that everything is going to be fine. He helped us pick the right songs according our taste and he definitely delivered what he had promise us!! We absolutely loved having Robert as the DJ for our wedding. Right from the start we just felt a rapport with him that continued on throughout the entire time we worked with him. He was amazingly attentive and helpful when finding out about our music preferences and really worked well with our planning in keeping the flow of the evening moving at a good pace. Robert did an AWESOME job as the DJ/Emcee for our wedding. Having a good DJ/Emcee was really important to us because the DJ/Emcee sets the tone for the reception. We loved the energy that he brought to the room and his stage presence. He did a great job in making our reception fun, entertaining, and kept the reception going in good order. He also arranged for a Vietnamese co-host to be present during the reception by our request. This really helped a lot because many of our guests during the reception were non English speakers. Robert was really involved with our wedding because he was also responsible for managing the sound system and playing the ceremony music during the ceremony, playing music for cocktail hour, providing uplights for the ballroom of the reception, and providing and managing the projectors/screens. He was with us almost the entire day from the start of the ceremony until the last song of the night. Having Robert handled all these tasks made it easier as we just had to deal with one vendor instead of multiple. This did remove some of the stress in planning as we were planning our wedding from out of state. When we first met Robert, he gave us an advice on hiring vendors for the wedding. He told us to go with your gut feeling and go with what feels right. After leaving the meeting, we left with a strong first impression of him and felt that he was the right DJ/Emcee for our wedding. One of our first impressions of him was that he was a professional. He arrived to the meeting on time and dressed very well. We liked the energy that he presented and his enthusiasm that he expressed about our wedding. We also liked that he was quick on his feet and was able to answer all of our questions with confidence. This is a really important characteristic to look for in an Emcee. He was a people person and was very personable in our interaction with him. He spent time with us sharing us stories and making sure he addressed our concerns. Robert DJ'ed and MC'ed my wedding on June 6, 2015 and he was simply amazing. From the very beginning to end, Robert was extremely helpful with organizing and planning our reception. We knew Robert was the choice for us when we first met him! His personality, energy, and enthusiasm was exactly what we wanted in our DJ/MC for our wedding, and he clearly brought it with him to the wedding! My now-husband and I had no idea what songs to choose for any part of our reception really... we were lost in the bajillions of songs out there and didn't know where to start. Robert figured out what songs we would possibly like, provided a list of options for our reception entrance songs, father/daughter dance, mother/son dance (in SPANISH by the way), and cake cutting, and he got it right on the dot! Robert is super creative and takes pride in his work in hosting a great reception and party! My bridesmaids decided to do a little choreographed number after their entrance and needless to say, the groomsmen weren't as... "choreographed." Robert came to the rescue, out of his way, exceeding our expectations, and helped the boys choreograph a routine easy enough, yet exciting, the night before the wedding!!! AMAZING! The boy's dance was a hit with our guests! Although Robert was technically just our MC/DJ, he was like my 7th additional bridesmaid! LOL! He kept checking in with me and my husband to make sure we were okay, grabbed us waters and drinks as needed, and even "fetched" my bouquet for me when I realized I had forgotten it =) Robert is really there to make sure you are having a great time at your own wedding. We had a hiccup in our plans and Robert was quick to find a solution. We had planned on having a mariachi band at our cocktail hour, but long story short, it fell through on the band's end. Robert surprised us with mariachi music during our cocktail hour. It was as if the band was there live! Robert flawlessly ran the show. We had so many things on our agenda during reception, and he kept us right on track with time. Being that we had to incorporate some Vietnamese traditions like "table greetings/ chao ban," I was dreading how long it would take and how bored my guests will be waiting for us to make our rounds. But with Robert, he made it fly by so fast, and kept my guests thoroughly entertained with his party games and kept the energy high until we got kicked out of the venue! Lets just say, generally older guest leave earlier on in the night right after dinner service, but for us, the dance floor was full until closing time! Robert's choice in music was superb. We had a variety of guests - from Vietnamese to Mexican, and from the young to old. We wanted to make sure that no group of people were forgotten or felt excluded, or favored. Robert did an excellent job doing just that. He played perfect and appropriate (and what I considered not "tacky") selections of Vietnamese, Spanish, and English songs. Like I said before, the dance floor was full until the lights were turned on on us. And even then, we begged Robert for ONE MORE SONG, which he made happen! My family and friends can't stop raving about how great our MC/DJ was! I've heard things like, "I've never been to a wedding with such a great MC," "Your DJ was sooooo fun," "He is reaaaaaally GOOD!," "Your MC was so professional unlike the other ones who just stand there and play music," and "Your MC was so engaging, I love it!" And that's coming from ALL of our Vietnamese-, Spanish-, and English- speaking guests!!! Rob recently DJ'ed and MC'ed my friends' wedding this past weekend (6/6/15) and he was great! I was part of the wedding party so I got a decent amount of correspondence with him -- I'll try to break down what made him so great: Pre-wedding choreo: Both the groomsmen and the bridesmaids were thinking up of their own choreography for their entrances. Of course, the night before the wedding, the boys hadn't done ANY choreo, because of the 12 left feet we owned. Who comes to the rescue? Mr. Hilo, that's who! Even though he was busy with another client, he made the time to come by our house, choose the song, choreograph something for us, and teach it to us in 30 minutes! Not only that, he built up our confidence and allowed us to perform our hearts out on stage -- you can say he brought out our inner Uptown Funk. Right before the festivities started on wedding day, he made sure everyone was ready with their music, ran through the choreo with us, and just kept making sure that everything was up to par and ready for the big day to go perfectly. And it did. Wedding music: The wedding had an eclectic group of guests, ranging from teenagers to grandmothers, and Vietnamese to Mexican to Caucasian people. Rob did a great job playing music that suited everyone's tastes and brought everyone to the dance floor. It's not everyday you hear a Backstreet Boys song at a wedding that gets people onto chairs and having a blast (ok maybe that was only me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it!). In short, his choice of music given his audience was superb. The only downside was that he had to end the night, but even then he gave people one last Journey song because it was requested. MC-ing: Running the show was flawless. He gave great introductions to everyone, and kept the energy in the room high. While the bride and groom were walking around to each table (which tends to be a long, drawn-out process), he played games with the other guests, keeping them occupied and entertained until it was their turn with the bride and groom. This was no easy feat, considering there were over 300 guests! But he did it with style and finesse, even including an epic dance-off! All in all, Rob's performance was spectacular. This is in addition to him being just a great guy to talk to and work with. I would easily recommend him to other people who are getting married soon (and yes, I'm surrounded by them at the moment). If you want an MC/DJ who will make your wedding night seem amazing and stress-free, pay top dollar for some random run-of-the-mill performer. If you want an MC/DJ who will KNOCK THE SOCKS OFF of your guests and make the previous guy seem like Ben Stein, then get Rob. read more

We first met Robert when he was the MC/DJ at one of our close friend's weddings and loved him from the start. Fast forward 3 years later when we were getting married, our fabulous Wedding Planner Michelle Groom from Mele Amore let us know Robert was available for our wedding we jumped on the chance to work with him! Robert is a professional. He always comes impeccably dressed, even if it is to meet for coffee for a few moments and run through ideas. He is personable and checks in with you along the whole process, just so you know he is there for any questions or input on ways to enhance your day. One example of such, he suggested a fun wedding game for us to try with the guests. To be honest, I was hesitant at first. How many "ice-breaker" type of games have we all tried at one point in our lives and failed to get any participants. Well, with his thoughtful and positive reassurance I was proved wrong! Our guests LOVED the game and we had about half the room (that would be 130+ people) playing and the pictures of that portion of the night speak for themselves. It was a HIT! We have truly enjoyed working with Robert to plan the musical accompaniment for our Wedding. It has enhanced our experience in every way. Music was extremely important to us, we felt it would give our guests insight into our personality as a couple and most importantly we wanted them to party the night away.
