The staff person who assisted me was amazing! I forgot to place an order and he was kind enough to process it quickly. The food was delicious and exactly what we wanted. The Buenas Dias Bowl had a nice balance of flavors. You can select how you want your egg prepared in the breakfast sandwich and it was yum! The salmon toast was deliciously different as they used a multi grain bread. The açaí bowl was a nice palate cleanser and not heavy on the stomach. The tater tots should be added to all orders! We did not dine in but place looked clean. Street parking is available. Will definitely return. If you are looking for breakfast place, this place is a must try!
Yonnie + Ajay & Issa cooked with this one. I'm not from LA but I'll always appreciate a place with intention, that serves the neighborhood and provides a place for creativity. When I came to visit, there was a whole guy djing (with headphones on) - LOVE to see it. I ordered the Buenos Dias bowl and oh mannn it was muy bien! I'll order this every time (until im ready to move on). The beignets were everything. Fluffy and tasteful: the best yet!! My cousin loved the berry sauce but I prefer my beignets plain. And thank GOD the grits were made right. That was a legit concern for me but they did not disappoint. No additional salt, butter, pepper, hot sauce, (& I love hot sauce) etc needed to be included. The soul bowl was soulful and I may have to order that to go next time. Whenever I come back to LA, I'm stopping by the Inglewood location. AND PLEASE expand to NY one of these years, it will be very much appreciated. Thanks for the experience
Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen is cozy corner coffee shop in Eagle Rock neighborhood of LA offering breakfast, bowls, and pastries, and outdoor seating. This particular store is located on the ground floor of an apartment (The Perch) building on Eagle Rock blvd. And they have other locations throughout the city of LA. The HCK coffee business is owned and operated by Yonnie H. + Ajay R. HCK's indoor layout is spacious and naturally well lit thanks to its large windows. Moreover, you'll find its interior decor with acrylic art paintings and a huge wallpaper flower with neon sign. We came early weekend morning as first time customers and were warmly greeted by staff. Their drink menu has vast items of hot and cold coffee as well as tea. Similarly, they have good healthy food items. I had a RED EYE Coffee and Salmon Egg toast. Drink was perfectly brewed and food was good. Service was on point. Staff were affable, competent and professional. Prices seem fair and competitive; they have 5% service charge to support their staff. Free Wifi. Street Parking in this area is limited but not impossible. Overall, it's a nice little corner coffee shop to chill and have light breakfast. I recommend you visit.
Fist time checking this coffee spot out that I've been wanting to go to for a good minute. First and foremost it's on a big street so it could be a bit hard to see but the inside of the coffee shop/kitchen is absolutely nice! Great ambiance and great service as well. The drink that I got was a matcha-Chata that was absolutely delicious, and not a huge Matcha fan. I also picked up an orange juice that they were selling that was woman owned, so I had to support. I'll make my way back here very soon!
Finally made it to Hilltop Kitchen. I had the matcha latte with almond milk, and my husband got the Slauson brew. Picked up a mug from their merch section. Looking forward to trying more things next time.
This is such a cute cafe with a fun vibe! I had a nice time co-working here with a friend the other day. There are tables inside and outside as well as a long counter with stools. The counter is right at the window which is great for people watching. As for the food and drink, A+! I got one of the drop tops, which is just an open-faced sandwich or toast if you will. But damn, the salmon one was gooooodddd. So much flavor! Smoky, tangy, salty. Just amazing. I ordered a hot matcha as well, which was lovely. Very clean bathrooms. And staff was cordial, which was fine. My one complaint is that the music was way too loud. It made both talking and co-working a bit challenging, especially because it was all like dancy bossa-nova songs. Please take it down a notch both literally and figuratively! It was a weekday at like 11 am, lol!

The grits with shrimp and collard greens were underwhelming and the prices are high. I don't mind paying good money for good food, but this wasn't it. Hubby had a fried chicken sandwich that he said was pretty good tho. My friend had avocado toast that she liked and an egg scramble/bowl that she didn't like. The staff were friendly, space is clean, and it's suitable for a quick bite. Just not worth a second visit in my opinion.
Went to the location on Eagle Rock and I think it was the best location to have my first experience. It was quiet, it smelled amazing, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. THE FOOD: The crispy chicken sandwich is the real deal! The sweet pickles bring this sandwich together so well. The breading wasn't thick and the chicken was super juicy. This is a sandwich done right. DRINKS: The pics speak for themselves, they were amazing. This is a place you must try.
Woke up this morning craving beignets since we recently started planning a trip to New Orleans. So did a quick yelp search and was surprised to see this spot just a couple miles away served them! So off we go & we ordered the Nutella beignets, the breakfast sandwich with added avocado, and 2 iced vanilla lattes. The breakfast sandwich was solid but the beignets stole the show! My husband grew up in NOLA so he's a tough judge when it comes to southern food and he was a fan too! It's probably dangerous how close these are to us
Decor: Amazing urban feel with great vibes and music and the space is huge for conducting meetings and catching up with friends, doing homework , business meet ups. This is better than Starbucks! Food: Omgoodness the food is amazing! They actual cook food nor just warming stuff up in microwaves ! Drinks: Lemonade and the eggnog latte was delicious Customer Service: 20/10 very friendly and took time to go over the menu with me and gave me suggestions. They have several locations : this is from the Downtown Los Angeles location. They have merch available as well. Parking: It's downtown la which sucks but you can find parking close by for $15
I ordered via Uber Eats. Although it was a bit pricey imo, it was absolutely deliciously! I had the Smoked Salmon Droptop and substituted the dill cream cheese with avocado. The salmon was salty and flavorful, the pickled cucumbers and onions added a nice crunchy texture and the avocado worked surprisingly well with all the other flavors. I'm excited to try some of there other items while I'm in the area this weekend!
This location of Hilltop continues to be a GEM for the neighborhood and area. Great food, great coffee, even better service, and always with a cheery smile! I've recently been getting the Breakfast Sandwich here with SOFT scrambled eggs, and let me tell you: it's as good as Egg Slut. The sun is a little bright in the mornings, I'll admit--but: you can control the sun screens. It's an epic place to have breakfast or work on a project at the window bar on your laptop. Again; always loving this place.

THIS SANDWICH is simply divine. Service was wonderful, staff friendly and helpful. This location is on the smaller side (which is fine) and doesn't have a bathroom inside but there is one on sight and it was clean as well as smelled nice. A huge deal for me so I thought I'd share. I have also had the cornbread muffin, it was so delicious once my son took a bite I was no longer able to get a picture of it. lol! Stop in any location and you'll be pleased. I've been to the Downtown, Inglewood and Slauson locations. read more
It was first time visiting Hilltop and it was a great experience. To be transparent, I stopped by to ask some questions about a promotion and I didn't try the food or coffee yet, but the staff was really friendly and the cafe looked like it would be a nice place to sit down at, by yourself or with friends. I got there right before they opened (they open at 8am) and I was able to find free street parking right in front. Parking is one of the reasons I chose to come to the Eagle Rock location vs DTLA. I look forward to coming back to try the food and coffee. read more
So glad I visited this location when I was staying in Glendale. Parking was easy and of course my ass got all excited that I made it to Issa Rae's coffee shop! After the prerequisite of photos, I slowed down enough to see what I wanted to drink. I chose a simple latte with lavender, iced, small, with oat milk. Still love this place. Still a fan. Out of the *several* times I've been here I've never experienced an egregiously long wait like people have complained about. I was shocked by how fast my food came out recently. I will say I don't think ppl realize how many delivery orders they get. I always see more delivery drivers than in person customers tbh. Just wanna add context to the "long wait" ppl complain about. && it's pricey lol. I do think it's worth the price point. But also why I treat it as my splurge coffee shop when I wanna get out of the house and why I've learned how to French press at home when I need to stay in budget lol. Louis is such a sweet employee btw! Always brings a smile to my face when I work there. read more

I went to this cafe looking for a place to study. I'd say it's a pretty good spot considering that there's lots of outlets, good wifi service, and public restrooms. The music they play is somewhat louder than most coffee shops I've been to and it's that genre they play at retail stores (a mix of pop and house music). I usually order an iced cafe latte and it was pretty good. The espresso they used was strong and tasty. I would say it is a bit overpriced though. The simple iced latte was $6, and their flavored lattes are even more. They also charge an automatic service fee and asks for an additional tip afterwards. The employees were very friendly and welcoming though. read more
first off.. whooo is their vegan cookie supplier?! need that caterer's info asap because perfecting a chocolate chip cookie alone is a science and VEGAN? wow. It was delicious, truly. My sister tried their purple haze drink (better than a SB refresher, obvi) and I got a warm pistachio latte (not pictured). The latte was everything I was craving. a PLUS is how nice the staff is. The person who took my order complimented my tatreez sweater and was v nice overall. P.S. the bathrooms are nice and clean too if anyone was wondering I would absolutely come back but this time come prepared to stay and get some work done at the cafe :) read more
Hip cafe in Eagle Rock/Glassell Park. Inside is modern and hip with some cool tunes playing. Decent amount of tables and some high stool seating along the window. Great lighting too. There's also a few tables set up for outdoor seating. I got the breakfast burrito. It was ok. I liked the crispy bacon. The green salsa had a nice flavor, but was very mild for my taste. And for $16.50, I would have liked a bigger burrito, the fatty in me was still hungry. Coffee prices are pretty on par with other cafes in the area. My friend got the breakfast sandwich and they liked it. Overall it's a chill spot to have some coffee and get some work done. Service was good. Friendly staff. My favorite place for my go-to: a lavender latte with oat milk. Literally will never get over how amazing the first sip is. And the baristas are always playing the best music, so if you haven't stopped by, what are you even doing bro??? Only thing is they're closed by 3pm, so if you're gonna go, better go earlier in the day. read more
Beignets. I wish I could say more. The powdered sugar and the berry compote were the stars. Visually, when I opened the box, the beignets looked like pieces of fried chicken and I first thought, did I order the wrong item? We'll, no, I tore it apart and it was a beignet. So I thought, we'll it's not the expected usually shape, but maybe the taste would be better? I shoulda put my expectations a bit lower, but then again.. who could mess this up? Eating the beignet was like tasting the frying oil mainly and having the last flavor of the beignet be the oil. Not my favorite experience. I usually have the sugar on the side to see what the actual flavor is... so for three reviews that had pictures with heavy coating of sugar... just know... the sugar was concealing the subpar dough underneath. Milk and coffee still could not conceal all the flavor of the fryin oil. Could it be because the dough is so thick inside? Versus light and airy inside? I dunno. I hope the quality improves in the future- that way I can rewrite my review into a better rating. Thanks for the quick order and delivery. read more
Came to this location for the first time on a Monday morning around 9am. Parking (unmetered with no time limit) was very easy to find in the surrounding residential area. I've been to the other hilltops multiple times and got the lavender latte with almond milk. It was made especially well. The employees were very friendly and kept the shop in clean condition. There's plenty of sitting room and plenty of outlets. Compared to other locations, this one has really good lighting. However I found this location's music to be on the louder end so being AirPods if you need to focus more. It was also really cold inside. A major plus is the super clean and spacious single-occupancy bathrooms! You don't need a key or code to get in. read more

Pistachio on Pistachio latte is like drinking an ice cream cone. If you're a pistachio lover, I def recommend. I also got their Crispy Chicken Sandwich and it was tasty, but felt like it needed something spicy. I order ahead so I didn't get to enjoy the quiet & aesthetically pleasing shop, but the barista was welcoming and handed me my order with a smile! Looking forward to returning and actually enjoying my coffee & food there. read more

5 stars for the woman who helped me at the counter. She was friendly and efficient. I'll give 5 stars to the place itself with both indoor and outdoor seating. It was clean, nice looking, and I appreciate that there were multiple sunshade umbrellas outside. 4 stars for the food and drink. Pretty good menu selection. All I got was an acai bowl. To be honest, the strawberries were a bit funky but maybe out of season? It was ok. Nothing to write home about. The coffee (I got the Ethiopian drip) was ok. Way better than Starf***s but I wouldn't go out of my way just for the coffee. But if you're coming for coffee to go along with something to eat or just coffee but not being particularly snobby about it, totally fine. -3 stars for the bullsh-t 5% service fee. I had no idea until I glanced at my receipt. This was after leaving a tip. I asked about it and the friendly woman mentioned above explained that it's so the place can be competitive and share food with the workers. She explained it was optional and then pointed to a tiny little placard, not anywhere near the register, with tiny white text on a black background that begins, "To Our Valued Guests," and goes on to explain why I was unknowingly charged this fee. Hey Hilltop, guess what? When I leave a tip, that is a "service fee". And I sure as hell don't feel "valued" now. I'm also not going to be a jerk and ask the woman to reimburse me the 5%. This deceptive behavior, which I see once in a while from other establishments, pisses me off. It's YOUR responsibility to remain competitive, not mine. You want to charge an extra 5%? Either add it up front to the cost of the food and drink and then I'll decide if I want to pay that much or have the person ringing me up explain it to me ahead of time. Get rid of that lame ass policy and I'll bump up my star rating and come back. Otherwise, I'll find somewhere else to go and hope others read my review and stay away until you exhibit some decency and honesty for your "valued" guests. read more

As of 3/28/2021: this spot is open for outdoor dining only and takeout. The place is very clean and all workers have their masks on. The seating outside was pleasant, and there are some shared patio shades for the 4 tables there. Some tables seemed less than 6 ft apart after you've sat down, but most patrons were seen with masks except when eating. FOOD: As my first food item to try for an early morning, I went with the AÇAÍ BOWL which was a medium-large size, and depending on your appetite you can certainly split this with a friend or stuff yourself happily with this. I've had tastier bowls and this one did not have an option for you to drizzle it with honey. It was pretty delicious nonetheless and the açaí tasted fresh as did the bananas, blueberries and strawberries that were sprinkled throughout. Would have been nice to have a bit more fruits but it had a decent amount of granola and some coconut on it. Downside of the place: NO RESTROOMS! Well, we were told that the owner has not opened up their restrooms to their customers -- (My mind was confused - what?! really? But you have dining on the premises, so you'd at least expect to be able to wash your hands and go use the restroom if you must) -- instead they send you down to the lovely Target just 3 minutes away and thank goodness for the Target's clean restrooms otherwise, I would not have been able to enjoy my acai bowl. PARKING: - street parking is available (along Eagle Rock, or on the residential side streets) however, it's not the easiest if you come late so be prepared to walk a bit. read more

Quick review - Yes, you should go here! I was so happy when I learned that the Eagle Rock location had opened recently! Please note, I came during the week, so I'm not sure how the experience will be on the weekends. I parked on the street in front of the shop. There is a parking garage underneath the building, but I'm not sure if it's for residents only. They have a couple of tables outside if you would like to eat your food onsite. I don't believe you are allowed to eat/drink inside due to Covid. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also provide sanitizer by the condiments area. The menu is available on the monitor inside. I was too excited to be there to look for a printed menu lol. As I have been to their location by the SoFi stadium in Inglewood, I already knew what to order. I got the Spanish bowl sans avocado and pico. I know that may be the best part for some of you, but not for my body lol. I also ordered the OG beignets and a caramel latte with oat milk. The bowl was even better than I remembered. I should've gotten 2 but my bank account said stop already lol. The Latte was so yummy! I think I might get oat milk more often. The beignets were worth the wait! I wish I could use emoji to express the joy I had eating these. The berry sauce they came with was very refreshing. Since I gobbled them down I don't have a decent picture right now sorry. If I get them again, I will try to take a picture haha. Please note, your food will be given to you buy a staff member once it's ready. They need to package it first. So just be a little patient while they handle orders. In regards to the decor, it is pretty similar to their other locations. I really love the positive wording on the floor. They also have artwork along the interior walls and merchandise both available for purchase. I hope we can enjoy observing and appreciating this location soon after Covid rules are lifted. I'm so happy this location is close to me and now I can try more of the menu :) read more
