First and foremost it's on a big street so it could be a bit hard to see but the inside of the coffee shop/kitchen is absolutely nice! Great ambiance and great service as well. The drink that I got was a matcha-Chata that was absolutely delicious, and not a huge Matcha fan. I also picked up an orange juice that they were selling that was woman owned, so I had to support. The staff person who assisted me was amazing! I forgot to place an order and he was kind enough to process it quickly. The food was delicious and exactly what we wanted. The Buenas Dias Bowl had a nice balance of flavors. You can select how you want your egg prepared in the breakfast sandwich and it was yum! The salmon toast was deliciously different as they used a multi grain bread. The açaí bowl was a nice palate cleanser and not heavy on the stomach. The tater tots should be added to all orders! Yonnie + Ajay & Issa cooked with this one. I'm not from LA but I'll always appreciate a place with intention, that serves the neighborhood and provides a place for creativity. When I came to visit, there was a whole guy djing (with headphones on) - LOVE to see it. I ordered the Buenos Dias bowl and oh mannn it was muy bien! I'll order this every time (until im ready to move on). The beignets were everything. Fluffy and tasteful: the best yet!! My cousin loved the berry sauce but I prefer my beignets plain. And thank GOD the grits were made right. That was a legit concern for me but they did not disappoint. No additional salt, butter, pepper, hot sauce, (& I love hot sauce) etc needed to be included. The soul bowl was soulful and I may have to order that to go next time. Whenever I come back to LA, I'm stopping by the Inglewood location. Moreover, you'll find its interior decor with acrylic art paintings and a huge wallpaper flower with neon sign. We came early weekend morning as first time customers and were warmly greeted by staff. Their drink menu has vast items of hot and cold coffee as well as tea. Similarly, they have good healthy food items. I had a RED EYE Coffee and Salmon Egg toast. Drink was perfectly brewed and food was good. Service was on point. Staff were affable, competent and professional. Prices seem fair and competitive; they have 5% service charge to support their staff. Free Wifi. Street Parking in this area is limited but not impossible. The counter is right at the window which is great for people watching. As for the food and drink, A+! I got one of the drop tops, which is just an open-faced sandwich or toast if you will. But damn, the salmon one was gooooodddd. So much flavor! Smoky, tangy, salty. Just amazing. I ordered a hot matcha as well, which was lovely. Very clean bathrooms. And staff was cordial, which was fine. My one complaint is that the music was way too loud. Pretty disappointing. I had been wanting to check out Hilltop for a while and finally made it over for lunch. The lavender lemonade was way too sweet. The grits with shrimp and collard greens were underwhelming and the prices are high. I don't mind paying good money for good food, but this wasn't it. Hubby had a fried chicken sandwich that he said was pretty good tho. My friend had avocado toast that she liked and an egg scramble/bowl that she didn't like. Late May 2025 Weekday at about 1pm Very disappointed! I try to support entrepreneurs/small chains over large corporations, but this shop will probably be a one-visit-only event. On a weekday afternoon, there was no buzz whatsoever, just a few remote workers set up along the window. The counter service was polite - we ordered tea, a pastry, and beignets. The beignets are not actually beignets. They are fried doughy rounds, rolled in powdered sugar - the wrong shape and taste, with none of the lightness of an actual beignet. I ate half of one and then realized I didn't have to be a hero, so I stopped. The tea was fine and the other pastry was clearly baked elsewhere and brought in - it was fine. The inside seating seemed stuffy; the outside was loud, but fine for a brief visit. Parking is horrible (all impacted street parking) - I lucked out on a space immediately in front - I wouldn't have stopped/stayed otherwise. Woke up this morning craving beignets since we recently started planning a trip to New Orleans. So did a quick yelp search and was surprised to see this spot just a couple miles away served them! I ordered via Uber Eats. Although it was a bit pricey imo, it was absolutely deliciously! I had the Smoked Salmon Droptop and substituted the dill cream cheese with avocado. The salmon was salty and flavorful, the pickled cucumbers and onions added a nice crunchy texture and the avocado worked surprisingly well with all the other flavors. I went to this cafe looking for a place to study. I'd say it's a pretty good spot considering that there's lots of outlets, good wifi service, and public restrooms. The music they play is somewhat louder than most coffee shops I've been to and it's that genre they play at retail stores (a mix of pop and house music). I usually order an iced cafe latte and it was pretty good. The espresso they used was strong and tasty. I would say it is a bit overpriced though. The simple iced latte was $6, and their flavored lattes are even more. They also charge an automatic service fee and asks for an additional tip afterwards. Hip cafe in Eagle Rock/Glassell Park. Inside is modern and hip with some cool tunes playing. Decent amount of tables and some high stool seating along the window. Great lighting too. There's also a few tables set up for outdoor seating. I got the breakfast burrito. It was ok. I liked the crispy bacon. The green salsa had a nice flavor, but was very mild for my taste. And for $16.50, I would have liked a bigger burrito, the fatty in me was still hungry. Coffee prices are pretty on par with other cafes in the area. Beignets. I wish I could say more. The powdered sugar and the berry compote were the stars. Visually, when I opened the box, the beignets looked like pieces of fried chicken and I first thought, did I order the wrong item? We'll, no, I tore it apart and it was a beignet. So I thought, we'll it's not the expected usually shape, but maybe the taste would be better? I shoulda put my expectations a bit lower, but then again.. who could mess this up? Eating the beignet was like tasting the frying oil mainly and having the last flavor of the beignet be the oil. Not my favorite experience. I usually have the sugar on the side to see what the actual flavor is... so for three reviews that had pictures with heavy coating of sugar... just know... the sugar was concealing the subpar dough underneath. Milk and coffee still could not conceal all the flavor of the fryin oil. Could it be because the dough is so thick inside? Versus light and airy inside? I dunno. Way better than Starf***s but I wouldn't go out of my way just for the coffee. But if you're coming for coffee to go along with something to eat or just coffee but not being particularly snobby about it, totally fine. -3 stars for the bullsh-t 5% service fee. I had no idea until I glanced at my receipt. This was after leaving a tip. I asked about it and the friendly woman mentioned above explained that it's so the place can be competitive and share food with the workers. She explained it was optional and then pointed to a tiny little placard, not anywhere near the register, with tiny white text on a black background that begins, "To Our Valued Guests," and goes on to explain why I was unknowingly charged this fee. Hey Hilltop, guess what? When I leave a tip, that is a "service fee". And I sure as hell don't feel "valued" now. I'm also not going to be a jerk and ask the woman to reimburse me the 5%. This deceptive behavior, which I see once in a while from other establishments, pisses me off. It's YOUR responsibility to remain competitive, not mine. You want to charge an extra 5%? Either add it up front to the cost of the food and drink and then I'll decide if I want to pay that much or have the person ringing me up explain it to me ahead of time. Get rid of that lame ass policy and I'll bump up my star rating and come back. Otherwise, I'll find somewhere else to go and hope others read my review and stay away until you exhibit some decency and honesty for your "valued" guests. read more

Came to this location for the first time on a Monday morning around 9am. Parking (unmetered with no time limit) was very easy to find in the surrounding residential area. I've been to the other hilltops multiple times and got the lavender latte with almond milk. It was made especially well. The employees were very friendly and kept the shop in clean condition. There's plenty of sitting room and plenty of outlets. Compared to other locations, this one has really good lighting. However I found this location's music to be on the louder end so being AirPods if you need to focus more. It was also really cold inside. A major plus is the super clean and spacious single-occupancy bathrooms! You don't need a key or code to get in. read more

As of 3/28/2021: this spot is open for outdoor dining only and takeout. The place is very clean and all workers have their masks on. The seating outside was pleasant, and there are some shared patio shades for the 4 tables there. Some tables seemed less than 6 ft apart after you've sat down, but most patrons were seen with masks except when eating. FOOD: As my first food item to try for an early morning, I went with the AÇAÍ BOWL which was a medium-large size, and depending on your appetite you can certainly split this with a friend or stuff yourself happily with this. I've had tastier bowls and this one did not have an option for you to drizzle it with honey. It was pretty delicious nonetheless and the açaí tasted fresh as did the bananas, blueberries and strawberries that were sprinkled throughout. Would have been nice to have a bit more fruits but it had a decent amount of granola and some coconut on it. Downside of the place: NO RESTROOMS! Well, we were told that the owner has not opened up their restrooms to their customers -- (My mind was confused - what?! really? But you have dining on the premises, so you'd at least expect to be able to wash your hands and go use the restroom if you must) -- instead they send you down to the lovely Target just 3 minutes away and thank goodness for the Target's clean restrooms otherwise, I would not have been able to enjoy my acai bowl. Quick review - Yes, you should go here! I was so happy when I learned that the Eagle Rock location had opened recently! Please note, I came during the week, so I'm not sure how the experience will be on the weekends. I parked on the street in front of the shop. There is a parking garage underneath the building, but I'm not sure if it's for residents only. They have a couple of tables outside if you would like to eat your food onsite. I don't believe you are allowed to eat/drink inside due to Covid. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also provide sanitizer by the condiments area. The menu is available on the monitor inside. I was too excited to be there to look for a printed menu lol. As I have been to their location by the SoFi stadium in Inglewood, I already knew what to order. I got the Spanish bowl sans avocado and pico. I know that may be the best part for some of you, but not for my body lol. I also ordered the OG beignets and a caramel latte with oat milk. The bowl was even better than I remembered. I should've gotten 2 but my bank account said stop already lol. The Latte was so yummy! I think I might get oat milk more often. The beignets were worth the wait! I wish I could use emoji to express the joy I had eating these. The berry sauce they came with was very refreshing. Since I gobbled them down I don't have a decent picture right now sorry. If I get them again, I will try to take a picture haha. Please note, your food will be given to you buy a staff member once it's ready. They need to package it first. So just be a little patient while they handle orders. In regards to the decor, it is pretty similar to their other locations. I really love the positive wording on the floor. They also have artwork along the interior walls and merchandise both available for purchase. I hope we can enjoy observing and appreciating this location soon after Covid rules are lifted. If you need Wi-Fi and an outlet in Glassell Park, this is an ok option. The staff is welcoming and friendly. Taste: I got an iced oat latte and the breakfast sandwich.
