Being new to town, we gave Hillside Plumbing a call because look at these Yelp Reviews. 2 hours later, Mike pulled up and immediately, we knew we'd made a wise choice. Within minutes, he'd assessed the situation and was confident it was a quick fix. Less than an hour later, he was headed to the next job and we were flushing toilets, just because we could. The BEST! We've had Hillside do some major plumbing jobs on our apartment units twice in the past few years.Today we just needed a toilet replaced and a small turn off valve behind the toilet replace as well. Hillside sent Patrick out to do the job. 1. He was on time (4pm) 2. He was in clean attire 3. He was happy and polite 4.Extremely professional and very detail oriented. 11pm. I've spent three hours snaking a sink drain with a drill snake, to no avail and a stinking mess in the kitchen. My wife has lost her patience, even on her first day back from vacation. Having had Bad Plumbing Experiences (hence, the drill snake), I was wary of calling someone new, but my other plumber was on vacation. Gotta love August. Mike said he'd be here at 1 or 1:30. He called just before that to confirm. He got out his much bigger snake (get your mind out of the sewer!), cleaned out the drain from the outside: no mess, very quick, very reasonable cost. Nice to know a plumber you can rely on. My Dear Wife said, "I told you so." The caller, having not listened to my voicemail, hit redial instead of calling my cell as instructed and never followed up. I do not use my landline, other than for outbound calling and Caller ID is blocked so I'm not even sure how that number was available. . . I am revising my rating based on this, Mike's effort and the fact that there seems to be a lot of satisfied customers, why I called to begin with. We had a couple issues with my Moms plumbing. Bathroom Sink got clogged with construction debris that went past the trap. Hiilside came out and cleaned it fast, super affordable too. I told the guys about another funky plumbing issue we had but told them no one was living here so no need to fix it. 2 months later, house was for sale and I didn't have time to fix the funky issue before someone bought it. I didn't think it was a big deal, but when the inspector did a report he made it sound bad. Buyer wanted $1500 to fix it. Called the boys at hillside and they were here the same day. found a difficult clog at an elbow under the house but were able to clear it with some skill with the snake for $160. Now all is well. I was having problems with my local plumbers. Every my sink or toiler would jam up, the pipes below the house would leak, so they charged me to do my main, and then told me the pipes under the houses needed to be replaced. To the tune of $3000 for the main and $4500 for under the house. In the process of (so they say) snaking my back bathroom, they broke my toilet. I was DONE with the local plumbers and needed help. They just kept trying to screw me rather than fixing the problem! Michael Bengerno and Hillside Plumbing to the rescue! Mike took over the business from his father apprenticed under his father. Its rare that you see someone take pride in their work and when you do, you folks like Mike and Hillside Plumbing. He snaked the plumbing under the house from my roof, which the previous plumbers CLAIMED they had done when they broke my toilet when they clearly had not! 6 months later my house hasn't had a single plumbing issue. I didn't need to spend $7000 to fix my stopped up shower, I just needed an honest plumber. And thats Mike. Its rare to find an honest Plumber, Electrician; a craftsman. Problem: Kitchen Sink backed up. Tried troubleshooting myself but know when I'm out of my league. Saw these guys on Yelp and their good reviews. Called and was told by Mike that it would cost $100 if there was an external trap (which there was) and his guy would be there in around an hour. Ty shows up in under an hour. Spends about 90 minutes and fixes the problem - had to go 60 ft with his industrial snake (I know I couldn't have done this myself). Polite guy, professional and took the time to make sure we weren't leaking from under the sink. And, surprise, surprise, the bill was $100 exactly as quoted. I now have my plumber that I will use. Don't waste time - look at their reviews and rest assured you're getting a reasonably priced professional 5 star plumber. VERY HAPPY. read more

They are reasonably priced, on time, provide high quality work and provide great customer service. i had what i thought was a backed up kitchen sink. they arrived on time and inspected the sink to find that there was no issue other than perhaps a temporary blockage caused by something i had attempted to flush down earlier. they triple inspected to ensure there was no problem and did not charge me a penny for it. while on site they also provided some help with a leaking toilet line. they replaced the old valve and stem quickly and at a very reasonable price. they were clean and left behind no traces they were even there. all this within less than an hour or so. i would use them again without a moments notice. i would highly recommend them to anyone who may ( unfortunately ) need a plumbing service. read more

Had a leaky water heater so I gave Hillside a call this morning. They let me know they had a few appointments today but could stop by around 4-5pm. I booked the appointment and said to give me a call if they'd be early/late. I got a call around 3:30 advising me they were running a little behind but would be here between 5-6. They showed up at 5:30 and got straight to work. After assessing the situation they explained everything to me (including what looked good and what needed fixed - which is always helpful) and after replacing a hose we were in business. I appreciate that they walked me through what to look out for in the future as well. Since they were already here and had only had to replace a short hose, they asked if I had any other issues they could take a look at for me. I have an upstairs toilet that had been running so I had them take a look. A quick shortening of a fill hose and a replaced plastic clamp and we were in business! I would recommend Hillside to anyone looking for a quality plumber and will definitely call them again if needed. read more

Just did a home remodel and based on the Yelp reviews i went ahead and tried them out. Here is what they did: Finish plumbing at kitchen sink (faucet, connect drain, hook up garbage disposer), Plumb a water line for fridge, hook up a recessed box for washing machine source and drain, fix a leaking valve outside next to water main leading into house. Being that the job was over 1k they were able to come on short notice (within 2 days) with a 2 man crew and were very responsive. I requested that they use an existing Kenmore garbage disposer since it was still rather new and they asked if i had the flange still. I said i didn't and that it was tossed along with the old sink. Thankfully they had a spare in the truck and the install was able to move forward. During the install of the washing machine box they found a problem with the galvanized drain and recommended replacing a section with PVC. Of course this was an extra charge but it probably saved me a nightmare later down the line. Note that this type of work requires tearing out drywall but they will not repair it. You need to hire someone else to do that work, or do it yourself. They didn't finish until evening but the job was done and i was extremely thankful for their responsiveness and professionalism. The next day i went outside and noticed that the trash from the drywall/demo was left outside on my front porch. It wasn't bagged, they didn't dispose of it on their own. It was just sitting on a piece of cardboard in a large pile. Granted, my trash bins might have been too full for it, but they could have at least bagged it and/or disposed of it on their own. Instead i spent about an hour the next day bagging/cleaning it up myself. When i went to use the new sink i noticed that there was some leaking going on underneath in the cabinet. Looks like something wasn't tightened or sealed properly. I called them up and they said that it was probably a bad/worn out seal on the garbage disposer and that they would have to charge me 75$ for another visit plus materials to repair it. I was a little bummed by this since i figured they installed the disposer...if they didn't think the seal was up to par, then they should have recommended at the time that it needed to be replaced or at least discovered the leak when testing the integrity of the entire system prior to leaving. It was probably getting late that day and they wanted to get home....so maybe it was overlooked. No big deal, i guess. They came out the next day and fixed it right. Now fast forward a few weeks and the toilet is now stopped up, and the shower faucet is broken. I called them about 3 days before xmas to see if they could make a quick stop and snake the drain and fix the shower. They were too busy and promised to contact me the day after xmas. That day arrives and i get no response. Friday rolls around and i reach out to them again and get no response. So much for their responsiveness. I've decided to move on at this point and i contacted another plumber (also highly rated on Yelp) on Saturday morning (today) and they came immediately and were fast, friendly, responsive and cheaper as well. So while these guys are good, they are no longer my 1st choice when i am in need of a plumber. If you want to see the other plumber i went with....check my history. I'll be doing a write up on them right after this one. I feel a little guilty giving them their only 4-star rating...and had every intention of jumping on the 5-star bandwagon, but based on my experience, giving them a 5 would be a disservice to the Yelpers. read more

Mike and his crew are the best. I am so relived to finally find a plumbing company that I do not need to worry about being ripped off by. Its bad enough when you have an issue that needs a plumber to come out to fix and having then to worry about if this person is going to try and take advantage of me makes it even worse. They have done numerous jobs for me ranging from a kitchen copper repipe, snaking, to finding a leaky pipe in a bathroom wall. They always have the utmost professionalism and do quality work. Main takeaway from this experience: Be careful! Ask for an estimate first even if referred by someone you trust. I called Hillside because our townhouse neighborhood uses their services sometimes. When the guy showed up, I asked him if he has done a similar job (my house is leaking) before in our neighborhood. He said "yes," and when I asked for an estimate, he said "no." I trusted them because Hillside was referred by our neighborhood association, so I agreed to let them do the job even without an estimate. However, the cost ended up being a big surprise. The job costed $650 - it was performed by one person in two hours, who fixed one leak without using any big machines/special tools. If the materials cost $50 (which is a significant overestimate), then the hourly rate would have been $300/hour. Some may argue that the job should not be counted by the hour and should be itemized, but on a high level, this one leak that was fixed by one person cost $300/hour. Again, if you don't like big surprises, ask for an estimate first even if Hillside was referred by someone you trust. read more

Discovered a pipe leak under the house (I thought) and called Hillside Plumbing after reading Yelp reviews. Called about 7:30AM Friday morning and left a message. Mike called back within 10 minutes and advised that he could have someone there at about 10AM. Patrick arrived about 10:10AM and promptly diagnosed the problem as being a leak in an old fridge supply pipe that was no longer in use. He resolved the problem quickly, as well as seperating some power conduits from other plumbing under the house and did a great job of cleaning up afterwards. Great service, very reasonable price and friendly and helpful as well. Would recommend these guys and we will continue to use them in future. Great job Patrick. read more

There was a leak in the gas pipe near the valve outside my house, I called Hillside Plumbing for help, the owner Mike sent Patrick over within two hours while other local plumbers told me they couldn't do the job on the same day. Patrick not only fixed the pipe, he also wrapped it with layers of plastic and told me to block the sprinkler with a garden fence, so that pipe won't get rustic and leaked again. He offered some water saving tips before he left. He is very polite, knowledgeable, and most of all, he did an excellent job in such a short period of time. I was not only impressed with the professionism, but also with the reasonable charge. I have just had the best experience! My husband and I bought a house a year ago, and with it, immediately learned how expensive these old South Bay houses can be! Our plumbing has been a major issue. After many nights of strange gurgling and popping coming from our bathrooms, I called Hillside. I explained that a previous plumber had told me we had issues because our toilets needed to be replaced. These guys are so genuinely nice. I explained that I own a Jetta and could not fit a toilet in it to replace our other one. Patrick met me at Home Depot to lift and move the new toilet. When we got to the house, he looked at our toilet, lifted the lid, and told me that, if I wanted, he'd just fix the broken part instead of replacing our toilet. He saved me hundreds of dollars (but not the guilt of having dragged him to Home Depot). Then, he proceeded to deal with the gurgling noise. Basically, he spent five hours snaking our pipes to get out the congestion over 150 feet from his entry point. A tree's roots were obstructing our pipes. It was after 8 p.m. when he left! Throughout the whole service, he was so sweet and answered all my questions. He showed me everything he was doing, trying to teach me a little, although, honesty, I think I'd rather just call him back if a problem comes up. read more

I have Sloan FlushMates in our toilets and one started to leak. I called late one afternoon last week and they came by in a couple of hours. They identified the problem and another issue I had not seen (not trying to up-sell, it was legit). Fixed the second issue and had to come back with the part for the FlushMate issue. Didn't charge me anything up front and told me they would roll it all together at the end. Not many would do that. The job was just finished and it was done on time and within estimated budget. Great high quality work , trusting, knowledgeable and experienced, fair and honest, reasonable, understanding, dependable, and flexible. These are the words that I would associate with Hillside Plumbing. When it comes to plumbing, Patrick and Mike are the only guys you need to know. I called Hillside plumbing first to fix a pin hole leak I finally found underground after months of increasing water bills. They came gave me a very reasonable estimate compared to the other bigeer plumbing companies I called which said they charge just for estimating the job, if you don't go with them. Patrick fixed the first leak and also repaired another leaky valve, Later on, unfortunately, another leak broke out in the same area. At that point Patrick recommended that we just run new pipes above ground along the side of the house since there was too many rocks and other minerals underground. Not a problem since this side of the house is not visible and is not used. They ran the new pipes, mounted it, and also change the main valve to the house since that was leaking too. These guys really work hard and even though they took longer than expected, they stuck to their quote and didn't charge me a dime extra. Once we turned on the kitchen faucet, we saw a lot of yellow beads coming through the pipes. Mike switched the water flow to bypass the softener. My wife did some research on the Internet and confirmed that these beads were coming from the water softerner which I was not using for years. Patrick called me with the same explanation. They came by later to put the sleeve on the pipes and also fixed my kitchen faucet which clogged from all the beads. Hillside Plumbing does a lot of work in the RPV neighborhood and I'm glad I found them. Finding guys that you can trust is so very difficult. That's why I'll be calling Patrick/Mike the next time I need plumbing work. I can trust them. Ask yourself, do you have a plumber you can trust? I cannot imagine calling any other plumber for help after our experience this week. We had a leak in a pipe that we discovered at 11 pm, when water started coming through our kitchen ceiling at two points. The Hillside Plumbing emergency service was fast and unbelievably good, especially compared to any other plumbing help we've ever gotten. Patrick was simply terrific. He showed up promptly and got right to work. By 2 am he had tracked down the leak between the first and second floors of the house and repaired it, after having to cut a hole in the ceiling to get at it (he cut right where he needed to). He was extremely competent and professional. He learned a lot about where problems arise by doing construction for several years. I had multiple issues that just hadn't been bad enough to bother calling a plumber about. Decided to update the fausets in the master bath and thought why not take care of everything in one shot? I called Hillside Plumbing and gave them the list. Replace fausets, slow drain at the sink, slow drain at the shower and our yearly drain clearing in the kitchen and laundry room. Not sure why these guys are getting such good reviews, maybe they just treated us bad for some reason. My landlady called them to fix a leak in my kitchen. They came and opened 2 holes about 8" square each in my wall and did an inspection. They did a temporary patch on the leak, but advised we replace the whole pipe system. But they never gave a quote as promised. Leak returned so we called them back, this time I spoke with Mike personally. He and his assistant didn't seem to have much urgency about fixing it. I had to keep asking them about the scope of work, what the next steps were, and they were very vague and noncommittal. They said they'd go over everything with my landlady that day and give a quote, but again that never happened. That was over two weeks ago and we've never heard back, not a follow up call, not a quote, nothing. Now I'm stuck with holes still in my wall and we have to start all over with someone else. Guess these guys think they have so much business they can afford to blow us off. Very disappointed. read more
