I love this place! The bakery items are always fresh and their bread is delicious. I cannot go in there and buy one thing! I end up with a variety box of tasty treats. Our favorite is the cinnamon rolls. They have a few booths for sitting. Service is at the counter. Go early on the weekend because the line can be out the door. The staff is awesome, kind, and professional. They also make custom cakes. I've never had one but they look really good. There is drip coffee available for purchase. This is not a Starbucks with a Frappuccino menu. I signed up for their text messaging alerts. Usually every week they send out discounts or incentives. Which always motivates me to stop by :) I also love the history on the wall and the authentic vibes. read more

SO SO CUTE!! You walk into the bakery and the aroma of marzipan and pastries fill up your nostrils. Everything looks so pretty and if it wasn't going to kill me I'd eat EVERYTHING! The place was just okay. To be honest, I didn't really get a warm welcome, just the pressure to buy pastries. The maple bars here are reallly good. I would definitely come back for more maple bars because they are huge! They aren't too greasy and it's not to expensive. I think overall this place is very good. It seems to be a downtown Bothell landmark with its distinguishable exterior and quaint interior. The bakery is pretty small so for the most part people take their items to go. I have tried several things here. It can actually be a hit or a miss, but I have found somethings that I really enjoy. For example, there's one pastry (can't recall the name), but it's a flaky pastry on top of whip cream layered on a slice of yellow cake that is topped with an assortment of fruit. That one item alone would keep me coming back but there are other really yummy things like the toffee cookies. Only issue I have sometimes is with the pricing for certain things seem unreasonable. I'll just stumble upon something marked up for no apparent reason. To illustrate, I ordered a few items for dine in and since I enjoy milk with baked goods, I ordered it. Well it was more than 2 dollars for a very small cafeteria size cartoon. To enjoy a regular glass of milk would be like $6 which is more than a gallon at a grocery store. That seems a bit ridiculous. Anyway, I think this is a nice gem in Bothell and the staff is always very friendly. I would recommend anyone to try it out. read more

Their over the phone/email customer service was great! Unfortunately, it kind of stops there. I ordered a cake for my sister's birthday and had my other sister who lives near Bothell pick it up. In short, the cake was probably one of the worst cakes I've had. The design was pretty nice, but the buttercream was overly sugary. I thought I was being creative in getting a pistachio filling, but it turned out it was artificial pistachio and tasted awful. There was way too much frosting on the cake. Unfortunately, a Safeway cake would have been better (and way cheaper). My sister who picked up the cake said the bakery itself didn't look super clean and they had cupcakes out in the open with flies buzzing around. Not safe for those with allergies. My husband came in and was looking to buy something for himself. He asked about various food and told the employee that he had a nut allergy. He pointed out an item asked what is was. The employee responded, "it's marzipan, it is what you see right there". He called me and asked about it and I told him marzipan contained almonds. Stopped by Hillcrest Bakery for my 1st time. Busy place, so I felt this meant the baked goods must be great. I wish that were true. I ordered a dozen chocolate chips cookies. Took them home and was looking forward to my first bite. Well that first bite was very disappointing. The cookies were simply awful. They had a very dry and course texture, and had very little flavor. The poor taste and texture of the cookie overpowered the chips. I had my wife try one and she thought they were horrible. She said they tasted like cardboard. She even commented that the box of chocolate chip cookies she bought last week at QFC were much better in flavor and texture. Kind of sad that a box of $3.99 cookies mass produced at a grocery chain were superior to a bakery. Maybe this was a bad or old batch, but I don't see myself coming back. read more

This place was a two minute walk from our hotel in Bothell, so we decided to stop by and see what they had. Their pastries looked fantastic! It was pretty early in the morning, so all their food was fresh and delicious smelling. All I wanted was a decent looking sheet cake to celebrate at my daughter's college acceptance party. We stopped in here to grab a birthday cake for my mom, and we both forgot why we had come in and stared at all the goods, going back and forth about what we wanted to try. Its not like us to not try something new, so we decided to split a vanilla cannoli. We walked out with half a dozen cookies, a chocolate muffin, and a beautiful chocolate on chocolate (on chocolate, on chocolate, on chocolate topped with shaved chocolate chunks) cake. If you are in Bothell, this place is worth stopping by and checking out. Next time we stop by here we are going to try the garlic bread! This is a fmaily owned bakery, folks. Not some pishposhy fancy place. You walk in, it smells like doughnuts. I love that it's a mom n pop place, and i think that alone gets a star. Their muffins are wonderful, all muffin top and very little muffin bottom. The blueberry bran is sweet, not too branny. and the prices are decent, especially considering the cost of goods rising. If you're in the area, i'd say check it out. It's worth a pop in and grabbing some sweets to take home. I'm not a coffee drinker, so i can't comment on the coffee. read more

Very happy and pleased! Called in on a Wednesday, picked up Friday afternoon.The gal was extremely nice and helpful. I needed to order some items for my sisters bridal shower. She helped me figure out how much of each item to buy and even offered suggestions when I told her to theme I was going for. The scones were amazing, and so were was sugar bread. Ordered a dozen mini raspberry scones and mini blueberry scones. 1 loaf of a raisin bread and 1 loaf of a lemony, gooey bread. SOO VERY GOOD. Several of the shower guests asked where I got the scones and bread. Not too mention of the guests said she goes there every christmas for a special holiday pastries they do. My Oma and Opa love their bread and ask us to bring them some when we visit them in Tacoma. The muffins are the best! The blueberry and mocha chip are my favorite. Hubby likes the apple fritter. I ordered my sister and mother's birthday cake from them this year. I will say, if you're going for a specialty design (I drew a design for my sister's cake since it was for her 30th), work directly with the cake maker. I had problems explaining what I was asking for with the counter help. For a "normal" cake design, it will be a snap. Ordered on Wednesday, picked them up on Friday, and they were amazing! Hillcrest Bakery is a small, adorable bakery that has been around forever (my parents use to go here). Made a quick stop the other day to pick up a treat for my husband. After a slight parking debacle, I walked into the bakery a few minutes before closing. I was looking for anything that had white chocolate in it. The gal working was really sweet and pointed out a few things that they had with white chocolate. I went with a cream puff dipped in white chocolate. It wasn't too spendy and according to Mr. LaLa it was delicious! I hope all of the new development coming to downtown Bothell doesn't mess with this establishment, it would be a travesty to lose this place. read more

Apple fritter!!!!!!!!! Today I had a very good luck to find this Apple Fritter! After reading other Yelper' reviews, I was pumped to get some Apple Fritters mentioned multiple times to "celebrate" a post July 4th afternoon. I excused myself to continue my eating marathon this week ;-) A friendly and inviting staff welcomed us with a big smile and encourage us to try something! That's always a bonus to get a warm welcome. I was even more pleased when I bite into real apple chunks in apple fritter. The glazed are not overwhelmed and it's tasted fresh and just right! Ordered a turkey bread for Thanksgiving, to pick up on Wednesday before. The bakery folks took my order, including my phone number, and asked me to specify a time when I'd come in to get it. I said 9am. I had a stupid crazy day full of urgent stuff at work and home and about 15 minutes after their closing time I suddenly realized that I forgot to pick up the bread. Didn't get a call or anything throughout the whole day, even though my pick up time was well before noon. I realize it's my job to keep track of my responsibilities, but I'm very annoyed that no one contacted me via the phone number they took when it was obvious I wasn't there at pick up time. Or three hours later. Or five hours after that. Disappointed... Both in myself and the bakery staff. I'll just keep on going to QFC bakeries. They've always been good about calling when orders are ready, or if I'm running a little late on a pick up. The baked goods themselves are pretty good. Not amazing, but mostly good. I like the breads especially. Makes the turkey bread fiasco sting that much more. read more

We love Hillcrest! Pros: It's very nearby for us, they sell inexpensive treats that feel decadent, they are friendly and they sell delicious pastry type cookies. (Not sure what it was called, but my husband bought me a cherry-filled heart cookie for Valentine's this year that was one of the greatest things I've ever eaten). My kids feel extra special when we stop here for a treat (they love getting doughnuts). Cons: Very small space, parking is tricky and there isn't a lot of seating. It was my hubby's surprise bday party and our cake lady text me at noon to inform me she wouldn't be making my cake ( I paid her 3weeks ago). I was extremely stressed out, I think the gentleman that I spoke with calmed me down in all of my tears! I asked if they had any cakes I could come pick up and he said yes!! I'll take care of you! Come on down! I drove right there! I got in and he ( I should have got his name) took amazing care of me, explained all the cakes/pies/ goodies I could choose from and apologized for what the other baker did... We ordered a custom cake for our wedding and it was delicious! We enjoyed the tasting in which we learned about all of their flavors and types of cake and frosting. I was under a time crunch for a bachelorette party cake. I emailed the picture and had the order placed within an hour and was able to get the cake within 4 days. Everyone I spoke to was cheery and pleasant. The price was fair, considering it was short notice. The cake was exactly how I requested, and looked identical to the picture I sent in. And the taste was heavenly. The entire bachelorette party raved about it. I am definitely going to be a repeat customer. Custom ordered a cake and then when we went into the store to pick it up, we got a lot of goodies. We ordered the marble cake with raspberry jam filling. There were 3 layers to the cake. The topmost layer was marbled, but the other 2 layers were just vanilla. There was also a little more jam than there should be, but overall, the cake was good. The almond croissant, the blueberry muffin and the cranberry muffins were big hits in the household. We also bought a loaf of whole wheat bread that was really good. The bakery itself is tiny and quaint and charming in it's own way. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Overall, I'm knocking a star off because of the cake, but I'll definitely come back for the baked goodies. read more
