Exit 35 on I40, a great stop for gas, clean bathrooms, real food, and fun novelty shopping while crossing the great state of Arkansas. If you are in a hurry, you can grab a fountain drink and a hot brisket, pilled pork or chicken sandwich at the cashier and go. Be sure to grab napkins AND add sauce to your sandwich because they are meat only. If you have 30 minutes, sit down in the restaurant for full service BBQ with all the sides. Shopping is also fun here. I try to hit this place on both sides of my journey.

If you can't find a way of loving a place like this, I can't trust you. The name, the concept, the friendly staff, the food, the portions, the people! All 5 stars. The full service restaurant is hidden behind the convenience store, and to the right of the (Boar's Head!) deli. There's just a sign with the specials, a counter, and some chairs. Sit your butt down and someone will come right over with a menu, something funny or charming to say, and will then be ready to take your drink order. I got the pig fries to start, fried okra, and a country fried steak. I boxed up some of it so I could finish with the Banana Pudding. Lord was that AWESOME! This place is hysterical. It doesn't take itself seriously, in a good way. Easily the best gas station/truck stop food I have ever had.

The largest lot lizard I've ever seen blocking traffic to the entrance of this place should have been the tip off. Anywho, the south's most popular soda, Doctor Pepper is located right next to the bathroom so you can't get to the fridge holding the soda because of the endless rotation of people seeking to take a dump. I had to fight to get the sodas and not disturb someone's rush to take a bowel movement. I asked for sandwiches. They were out of order, misfiled under other sandwiches, and out of what I wanted. I asked for gas and only one register does gas at a 16 pump gas station. This place is truly a dump. I'm not coming here again. This is the second time I've had to put up with some BS here.

I was driving down 40 on my way back to Orlando and realized I was starving. Pulled over to see if I saw any signs in the distance, saw this restaurant connected to a gas station and said to myself "sure, why not". I'm so glad I made that choice. From hot links, to chicken wings, to ribs, and every type of fritter you can think of, it you like southern eats, this is the spot. I ordered one spicy link, and 5 buffalo wings, less than 8 bucks and it was GOOD AS HECK! I opted to eat in my car, but the seating area was large, and very clean!

Great hot cakes. Light and large. Quick service and good coffee. Definitely worth the stop. Located in a truck stop.

Hidden gem suggested by a local. Good late night stop at 11pm on a Weekday. Great price! Fast service! Good solid breakfast.

If you didn't have to slow down you would easily miss the long plain looking building and the small sign on the south side of the highway, Mel's Highway 10 Café. It looks to have been around for quite a few years. The spacing of multiple doors located on the front of the building, hint that in its early life it may have been operated as a small motel or roadside cabins. Country décor inside, knotty pine, barn tin and farm tools on the wall. Grab a table. The well-worn menus have the diner foods you were expecting. Beans and corn bread, a southern staple was today's special on the chalk board. On the menu under Platters is "Mel's Famous Chicken Fried Steak." Under that, the Chicken Fried Chicken. Mashed potatoes and cream gravy, likely instant but very tasty. Golden brown okra and a couple of fresh yeast rolls to clean up any stray gravy on the plate. Nothing fancy, great food, adequate friendly service. And an opportunity to enjoy a slower pace of life in rural Arkansas You will quickly figure out that this is an Amish owned business. Well, no good way to begin this so I guess I'll just dive in. Stopped in the other day coming back…read morefrom Fort Smith because my wife's son won an award there for his Korn tribute band. So in the interest of fairness, maybe my mood was already a little soured. But the events that transpired in this restaurant certainly didn't help, and likely took years off my life. The trouble began before we even got in the restaurant. A gentleman had parked his truck, revving ostentatiously, in between my car and the front door. He kept giving me and my wife weird, hostile looks. When we walked by, she (my wife is a kind soul) presumably gave him a look of concern, and this guy cracks his window-- doesn't roll it down all the way, like he's scared of the cold or something-- and starts going "What? What?" like he's Taxi Driver. Remember that movie? He was totally freaking out. He was shaking in there. Maybe he really was cold...At any point I took him for a harmless(?) druggie, and we kept walking. We get into the restaurant, and get a seat by the window. We get a nice server at least, girl named Autumn (I know because I made her write it down for us) and order some food. Things are finally taking a turn for the better, or that's what we hope. No points for guessing who comes walking in. The parking lot crazy. Imagine my delight when he starts walking into the kitchen. Maybe a minute passes. I hear yelling from the kitchen, and this lunatic and some other guy are screaming at each other. Judging from the name his interlocutor kept using, crazy guy's name is Lando or Larry or something like that. Lando/Larry is screaming about how he doesn't want to make the food! It was like something out of Kitchen Nightmares. Server Autumn at least was pretty apologetic to me and my wife, and attempted to distract us from the sounds of World War 3 coming back from the kitchen. I suppose it was a little heartwarming to see that someone there was actually capable of doing their damn job. Oh, this bears mentioning. We ordered burgers. Simple right? I wish! Oh my God how I wish it had been as simple it should have been! The burgers come out burned to hell and back and hard enough to stop a bullet. They looked like hockey pucks! Tasted like them too. At least our waitress was fast with the refills so we could drink enough sweet tea to keep us alive for the truck stop sandwiches that would have to be our dinner tonight since our South Park experience was a complete and utter failure. My advice to weary travelers? If you stop at South Park, run in, tip the waiters, then get out without ordering a bite. It's better that way, trust me. And maybe convince the people of Arkansas to invest in some rehab services-- nobody's stomach rumbles when you've got to contend with some tweaked out crazy person looking like he might shiv you in the parking lot. Then burning your food like it's the evidence that leads back to his meth lab. Gerald C, signing off.
