Yeah, it does kind of feel like a truck stop. Big parking lot, easy access. It is located a short distance south of I-40 and just a few blocks west of 540 in an industrial area. It is conveniently and inconspicuously attached to the "no-tell" hotel, aka Motel 6. You know, the place where they keep the light on for you! Wake up, wander down the hall, sober up with a fresh hot cup of coffee and a big breakfast. The restaurant is highly rated by travelers and the locals. We were headed home and purposely held out for breakfast until we hit Van Buren. It was worth the wait. I had my usual breakfast. Check the pictures. It was perfect and the gravy.....This is what country sausage cream gravy is supposed to look like and how it is supposed to taste. It was the best. My wife went with the short stack and thick crispy bacon. A very enjoyable breakfast. Great service. It is a big roomy restaurant, that gets busy early in the morning and around lunch time. D's Family Restaurant is a local place that is convenient to Interstate 540 and Interstate 40 at Van Buren, Arkansas. It is a great local alternative to the chain restaurants that populate major highways but lack local flair. Not that chain restaurants don't have their place - but if you are looking for local - this place is quick, clean, efficient and the food is excellent. The wait staff are always responsive and friendly. My drink glass remained full and I was checked on often during my most recent visit - but that's no different than it has been each time I've come. They serve breakfast options all day or you could eat a cheeseburger for breakfast. The full menu is always available. The pricing is comparable to a home cooking chain of restaurants with rockers on their front porch. You won't have a room full of country relics on the walls, but there will be a room full of folks from this part of the country and a large fish tank full of visitors from more tropical areas to brighten the mood. This is a great little restaurant for breakfast and lunch. For those who don't eat meat or are trying to cut back, it's not on the menu, but if you ask they have a VERY nice selection of plant-based meat substitutes available.... Breakfast sausage links and patties, breaded chicken pieces, and "beef" tips are several that come to mind. I usually eat there about twice a week. Bonus: the wait staff is super nice! Five stars for cleanliness, friendly and nice atmosphere. There is beautiful large fish-tank well maintained with colorful bright fish, great decoration built into wall. The food is tasty and country style, just good comfy food. I loved the fried chicken and catfish made just like forty years ago-homemade! I will stop in again when traveling through. was so excited to try this place. With all the hype from the commercials, I was ready. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!! Ate the buffet. The only good thing were the mashed potatoes. I had a salad, the dressing had no labels so I had to " sniff ' the bottle to see what it was. The croutons were gummy & the " bacon bits " were pieces of floppy bacon. The roast was so tough that I ended up spitting it out & the carrots were so hard that I couldn't even cut them. The hushpuppies were so hard that when you bit into it, it was barely chewable. The roll would barely tear apart. My husband got a cinnamon roll & it was completely raw. It seemed like the food had been sitting out all day. I would not recommend this place & will never go back. The food is all Cook from scratch each day, there Ice Tea is fresh and don't have the bitter strong taste that most tea you find at the mega Buffet's.
