We were interested in having really good Mexican Food and Google gave us a list to choose from. We arrived, we're disappointed at the minute parking space but quickly set that aside, due in large part to the charm of the bi-lingual young man who assured us he would not only keep an eye in the car but move it should it become necessary. The young lady at the front took our names and told us the wait was currently 50 minutes. We frowned and gave her a name and decided to take in some evening air while we waited. We were called within 25 minutes. We ordered the appetizers came quickly they were delicious as were the drinks. The main course was delightful and succulent. The plates were generous and beautifully presented. We had a wonderful meal topped off by a simply decadent coconut flan. The waiters were friendly and attentive with a desire to meet our needs and cocked back to make sure we had what we needed. The decor at Hijole is hip, cool modern and inviting. Music is set just so with large screen televisions should you choose to watch. Bathrooms are spotless. The service, attention to detail, the meal and the drinks were terrific. I strongly recommend this restaurant! Incidentally one of the owners/partners were on hand and we took the time to say hello and compliment him on a lovely meal. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND... My fiance and I decided to come to Hijole on a Tuesday morning, around 1030am for brunch. We were one of three tables to be dining in the restaurant at this time. So only 6 customers were in the restaurant. The service we had was terrible.. we are not one to complain easily, will most likely say nothing and still manage to enjoy ourselves but it took over 10 minutes to get 2 cups of coffee and then another 10 in top of that to get the sugar we asked for. The food was ok, nothing to cry about but nothing I would go back for. I had avocado toast which has flavor but ended up being more like a smear of guacamole with tomato's on top. My fiancés got a combo platter and the potatoes were cold. We were never given utensils and had to ask for them which we had to wait for. No surprises there. The server kept disappearing, while we seemed to be the only table she had. We asked for the check and it turned into another disappearing act. Even the table near us were becoming irritated from what we could overhear. Unfortunately, we all these little things rolled into a very dissatisfied meal and dissatisfied service, irritated us enough to leave this review. Maybe it was just one of those days for the server or the restaurant, but we were very unhappy. We hope they can improve and hope this is the only bad review but we will not be going back. read more

My family & I visited this place a few times during our trip. We tried the beef quesadilla, fish tacos, burrito, churrasco, and fajitas. The food was great! The drinks were also good. The drink & alcohol ratio was spot on. The staff is kind, helpful & attentive. We had a few servers, they all did an amazing job! The bathrooms are clean, the restaurant is clean. We decided to come here for dinner and give it a shot even though we saw some of the reviews were negative. To say the least what a great idea it was to come here. Food was delicious, for appetizer we had their fried pan cheese with chips. It was so great!! My girlfriend had the fish tacos which were pretty good, not the best We've had but definitely above standards. I had a Skirt steak with rice and beans blend that was fantastic!!! Only downside I would say is the service, the server could've been more attentive of us, had to finish our appetizer before she brought us our waters! to keep it brief: my boyfriend and i would not come to spend our money there again. here's a more detailed story of our experience: before choosing to come to hijole, we looked at several different places to get dinner. we chose hijole because of the appetizing pictures and the reviews saying service was great. When we first got there we noticed the restaurant wasn't that busy but there was one main server busting his ass for all the 8 tables that were seated. the first 20 mins sitting, i noticed a table who sat after us get up and leave, and then a table of six was complaining that one of the people in their party didn't receive any food. the server was very apologetic and you could tell he's had a long night. We finally ordered two drinks, an appetizer, and two entrees. After ordering, the same table of six received their check and i over heard them talking about how they were charged for things they never received. The server was very nice and apologetic, but seemed overwhelmed. I noticed another table complain about the same thing on their bill. I then finally received my drink and my meal, but no sign of our appetizer or my boyfriends meal. by the time i had eaten my meal, we received our appetizer but still no meal for my boyfriend. finally after finishing my plate of food, my boyfriends plate comes out. overall food and drinks were mediocre, and the chimichanga my boyfriend ordered gave us high cholesterol, we downed water the entire night. read more

I read some of the reviews about typical tourist overcharges etc but found none of that. The place is easy to find in the main drag in isla verde with a nice cool modern vibe. When you sit down they give you a small coffee cup worth of the frozen margarita. It was really good so I ordered one. It was excellent with quite a bit of tequila in it and at under $8 well priced. We got the Chico and sals for an so. They have a couple of Salsas and he spicy is not for the giant of heart but very good if you like a kick. The tacos al pastor were pretty good with some nice white Mexican cheese and grilled pineapple. I have had better but we're solid and really large. My wife ordered the shrimp tacos that had plenty of nicely grilled garlic shrimp: the service was good. Overall nice experience for Mexican in isla verde. read more

We got margaritas, it took until our food got there to get them (6pm only like 6 or 7 tables in restaurant) our food came out with cilantro all over it we specifically ordered no cilantro. The beans do have pork which we received and specifically asked if there was pork prior to receiving. The avocado was brown, and the white rice served with it so so undercooked it was hard. The chicken fajitas tasted like garlic? And was 100% boiled???? The veggies were also severely undercooked for a fajita meal. Never again. Food was very average. Service was HORRIBLE. Our server left on a break half way through our visit. The manager "took over" our table. We placed our order with the manager and 45 minutes later, our order was not even in queue with the kitchen. The Manager "took" the order, and evidently completely forgot to place the order with the kitchen. Not only did we wait 45 minutes for the food that NEVER ARRIVED, we had to wait an additional 15 minutes for the check. Horrible experience. Will never visit this place ever again. I played it safe and got the pulled pork quesadillas and they were pretty good. Not the most life changing, but good. Their menu is pretty large so I wouldn't be afraid to venture out unlike I did.
