We almost came here by accident but we're glad we did. Lupe Reyes is what I'd consider a typical "Tex-Mex" restaurant with the menu focusing on tacos and Fajita variations. Located in the "Districto T-Mobile" which was right next to the hotel we were staying at. Districtio T-Mobile is a restaurant and entertainment complex near the busy San Juan Convention Center. Lupe Reyes is one of I think seven restaurants in this complex. We and our friends arrived on a very busy Friday night and probably got the last table. After chips and salsa and a margarita or two we ordered our dinners. My wife had carnita tacos which she thought were excellent. My friend and I had steak and chicken fajitas. This dish had very nice chicken and strips of steak. I asked if the steak could be prepared on the medium rare side and it was. I feel it really added to the flavor. My friend's wife had shrimp tacos which she also enjoyed. It was almost as if we had a private waiter despite how busy the restaurant was. He always seemed to know when we need more salsa, napkins or refills or extra tortillas. For such a "tourist" area, I was really surprised at how good the food and service was. Prices were also acceptable. We looked at Yelp after we ate and weee surprised at the average ratings. We felt this was a pretty good place and would return. read more

The service was great, we sat outside to watch the LCD screens and listen to music. I tried the chicken flautas, queso fundido and gringo tacos. For drinks I put a tajin rim around my tamarindo agua fresca. I would recommend the tamarindo if you like tamarind, the flavor is strong. Everything else was ok but I don't think I would come back. The queso wasn't a dip it was melted cheese with pico on top. Instead of picking up the cheese the chip would break because the queso was so thick. I believe the flautas could be made better with a sauce. The green sauce that came with the tacos tasted like an avocado smoothie. But all of the meat was seasoned well so that was a plus. read more

Cute spot for a date night IF you don't care how your food tastes! we walked in and were seated immediately. We ordered the birria tacos and they were the saltiest tacos I've ever had in my life! YUCK! I was highly disappointed!! My kids had the chicken nachos and guess what THERE WAS NO CHICKEN!!!! I had to run the waiter down to let him know "what's the deal". A few minutes later he runs back with cold shredded chicken ready to dump it on top of the nachos and I immediately take it from him and sit the plate of chicken on the side. Enjoyed an evening out with my Mom at Lupe Reyes during our visit to San Juan. I was craving Mexican over the traditional PR cuisine we'd had all week. We started with the guacamole, a margarita pitcher and 2 entrees. For dinner we enjoyed the steak fajitas and Baja tacos. However, before we got seated, it was a 20 minute wait at 7 PM on a Wednesday. There seemed to be plenty of tables but not enough servers. Then once we were seated it took about 15 minutes for anyone to approach the table and take our order. That sucked but it keeps going. The guacamole came out first - it's truly amazing. Fresh and very tasty. Then our entrees arrived -- before the drinks? A bit strange but maybe that's how it's done in PR? When the bottle arrived (not an actual pitcher) it was a relief to get started with our meal. The server didn't pour anything - it was on us to serve ourselves. Tip: Shake up the bottle to experience the flavors. The patio is great to experience all of Districto T-Mobile. The flashing lights, stage acts and video display. It's loud with people walking by so if you want to talk - sit inside. Overall, the food was good. The steak could have used more seasoning - salt & pepper even. The ingredients were definitely fresh and cooked to order. Portions are more than enough. Recommend if you want a Mexican meal and good drinks. read more

Beautiful murals painted on the walls. A very welcoming feeling upon coming in! I loved the old school TVs all around the restaurant. The openness of the restaurant gave me family style event vibes. The food was amazing, tasteful, perfect temperatures, filling and plenty to take home! We also ordered a pitcher of margarita which was made to perfection. This looked better than the experience. The food menu looks like would be suitable for vegetarians given vegetarian fajitas and quesadillas but after 30 minute wait, once we were seated and tried to order, they told us they didn't have several veggie options and only veggie fajitas they could make would be filled with onions and peppers. We asked for black beans, they gave us pinto beans and they charge additional - didn't include in the fajita order. There is a nice bar stall outside while you wait. I ordered a margarita, while on the menu the top silver margarita is $16 or so, but they charged me $18 plus taxes and tips. So that lack of transparency what the bar offers is not so good. While we survived and were able to eat here, but experience is meh and could and should have been better. There is also karaoke loud music being played, made it not so enjoyable for kids. We were 8 people and they told us they would need to split us up into four people groups. But inside it looked like they had a table for 8 open. Not sure they didn't use that table. May have been five more minute wait but they should have given us the choice. The lava cake on the menu that kids wanted wasn't available to order either. read more

Review of Lupe Reyes The restaurant itself was, quite frankly, phenomenal the food was divine, the ambiance welcoming, and the staff (aside from one) went above and beyond to ensure a memorable night. Unfortunately, our experience was nearly derailed by the appalling conduct of the waitress, Andrea. Andrea came across as condescending and uninterested right away. We happily accepted the information that we would have to wait an hour for our reservation. But as time passed, it became clear that we would not receive our table. When I went up to Andrea, she told me about a table that was open right now one that was outside at a nice spot on the restaurant's edge. Eager for the seating, I replied quickly and went to retrieve my party.Upon our return, Andrea told us that the restaurant was nearing closing time. Her petulant tone, aloof gaze, and overall demeanor made it clear she was making an excuse not to serve us. Meanwhile, the dining room still hosted several active tables, disproving her claim.Noticing her unwillingness to help, I requested to speak with a manager. Andrea immediately grew belligerent and refused to escalate the issue, repeatedly insisting that the clearly clean and empty tables were "dirty." Her unwillingness and visible exasperation at simply doing the job she is paid to do was baffling.Worse still, Andrea began gossiping about us to other staff members, making the area around us feel inhospitable and unwelcoming. We had the impression that we were the target. Thankfully, there was a bright side. An incredibly kind server named Milka saved our evening by making the effort to seat us quickly and see to it that our needs were met.The restaurant's manager, Carlos, soon arrived, extended a sincere apology, and did everything he could to make amends for the disaster that was Andrea.Milka's professionalism and Carlos's compassion stood in stark contrast to Andrea's insolence. To be perfectly clear, the restaurant itself was excellent. The food was superb, and most of the staff were truly wonderful. However, Andrea's behavior was deeply inappropriate and utterly unbecoming of someone in hospitality. After getting new owners, this restaurant took a huge turn in a positive direction. -except the chips still have yet to be perfected- The flavor of the food is officially worth it. HORRIBLE MEAL. We've been vacationing here for a week, and this was by far our worst meal. The fajitas didn't come with enough tortillas, which were very small, and we had to pay more for a few more small tortillas. We waited about half an hour for those extra ones to arrive, so the food was cold by the time they finally arrived. Overall the fajitas were bland. The ceviche is the worst I've ever had. I had to ask for extra chips because it was served with maybe ten. The chips are not good either. I only ate about a quarter of it. We hoped the flan would be better, but it's also the worst we've ever had. I could only bear the one bite. It is terrible. We did tell the server it was awful, and he could see just one bite was taken, but he didn't care. The server was MIA throughout the entire meal. Someone else brought the food and then the extra tortillas. I had to go inside and find him at the end after a very long wait. This guy doesn't deserve a tip.
