I've frequented Highlight Coffee several times already due to its close proximity to my work and the fact it has generated a substantial amount of local fanfare since recently opening. I'm happy to report the hype is real - delicious, high-quality coffee options in a contemporary artisan coffee shop setting. Frank & Co. are very approachable and the atmosphere is relaxing. I've used Highlight Coffee as a social setting and study area, and enjoyed a great experience both times. Their Cappuccino is divine while the Butterscotch Latte is the coffee equivalent of a show stopper. It's a great place and I look forward to giving them my money for many years to come. read more

I had been wanting to check out this coffee shop for a while now. I read about it opening up in the Glendale News-Press last year and knew that I had to check it out. I finally got the chance to drop by this week. I think it's awesome that Glendale has a new coffee shop! The interior is small but aesthetically pleasing and nicely decorated. Service: The barista was helpful when it came to answering our questions about the drinks on the menu. I want to say that he was friendly, because he was, at least towards my friends. When I asked if he could throw away an empty cup I had, his response was "I can, but there's a trash can over there." This sort of rubbed me the wrong way, I didn't see the trash can at the far left corner, but I did see a large one behind him. It was nice that the owner brought our drinks to the table and set it down. Price: They're your average coffee shop prices. They do have a loyalty program. Every time you spend $3 or more, you get a star. And once you get 10 stars you'll get a free "coffee, tea or espresso drink". Drinks: I wish that I had known that Chai was an acquired taste. I've never had it before but figured it was time to try something new. Unfortunately, I didn't like it. To me, it tasted like a bag of cinnamon dumped in water. I wanted to finish my drink because it was $4.36, but I couldn't. My friend ordered a butterscotch latte, which is another drink that's either a hit or a miss. Both of us thought it tasted like the drink version of a See's Butterscotch lollipop. I love the lollipop, it's my favorite flavor, but I'm not a fan of consuming it in liquid form. My other friend ordered black coffee, so she was lucky. I liked the coffee cups and the coffee art, it made for some great Instagram pictures. Pastries: They don't have much for you to choose from, but my friends got a cookie and a danish, which they enjoyed. Tip: They don't have a public restroom here. I overheard them telling someone to walk to Chipotle. I guess if you plan on getting some work done here, that might make it a bit tough. Suggestions: Maybe consider turning on some tunes. I don't know if it's because we were there at 7:30 pm, but I felt like I had walked into a library. It was so quiet, even though there were people there. It would help the atmosphere if there was light background music playing. Overall: I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to check out a new coffee shop in town. Finally a coffee shop that has good coffee and a great study environment IN GLENDALE! Love the fact that I don't have to drive outside of town to study or grab coffee anymore. Been here twice, once ordered a hot sweetened latte, and the other a cold brew...both SUPER STRONG & caffeinated. They also added the grilled cheese w/ tomato soup on their menu. THE BEST. I swear, my brother and I dreamt about they grilled cheese because of how good it was. The only downside of this place is that they DON'T have a public restroom...so studying there or hanging out there for a "long periodically time" while having the urge to use the restroom isn't a great idea. First timers here and I like my coffee very sweet. Although most coffee shops don't have "sweet" since that is very uncommon to ask for, I was pleasantly surprised with their orange vanilla latte. PRICE: 5/5. Drinks were priced from $3-6 which is the typical price range for coffee shops. Bought an orange vanilla latte and a Panama Santa Teresa pour over and the total was about $10. The pour over had a cherry flavor and wasn't too bland. DRINK: 5/5. UGH THE ORANGE VANILLA LATTE WAS TO DIE FOR. I did have to add a little bit of simple sugar only because my sweet tooth is insane, but this latte was fantastic! Probably the best latte I've had in awhile. The orange isn't too overbearing and the vanilla flavor mixes really well. Just imagine an orange creamsicle with a coffee twist. So good! OVERALL: 5/5. Came here for the first time today. It was a lot smaller than I thought it'd be but it wasn't crowded and took a seat at a table after ordering an iced orange vanilla latte. I enjoyed the sunshine that came through the tall windows and everybody at the cafe was having friendly conversation that created a nice atmosphere to work in. I come here once a day for my typical quad shot of espresso to go, and rarely stay too long, but on the days that I do, I look over the gun picture books from local artists, or sip my coffee and musingly observe my fellow coffee heads gibber and jabber over the latest news in their lives, or observe the remote workers hammer away on macbook laptops, sipping large iced coffees, entranced in focus. Overpriced and underwhelming. The Iced coffee was ok. It lacked the sharp nutty taste and was overwhelmed with this strange syrup they added. The location is very pretty and the decor and interior is really nice. Very instagramable. My main issue - I ordered the Yogurt and Granola bowl and was so so angry when the guy didn't leave the register but simply grabbed an iced coffee cup, spooned 2 dollops of yogurt right out of a giant store container in front of me and sprinkled some granola on it and handed it to me. This yogurt costs $6 !!!! Yet they shamelessly and very stingily scooped out the smallest amount in front of me out of a container that was bought from the grocery store for less than the amount they charged me for the yogurt bowl. It's super pretentious and insulting quite frankly. Which is why I won't be returning. I can get better quality coffee at a better value up the street. read more

I used to enjoy coming here every once in a while because it is dependable and delivers perfectly good items. Yesterday was my last time. It's rare to find a business nowadays that is strict about masks inside (Even airlines don't require them anymore, and I haven't been in a business that required me to wear a mask in a long time), and in the past, the baristas served customers outside, so I assumed the mask rule was pretty relaxed when I opened the door and made my way to a table right by the door, next to a few maskless people. However, as I reached the table area, the barista said, "Excuse me - you need to wear a mask." I was caught off guard for the above reasons, but also because I had already reached the table area to put my stuff down, next to the people who were maskless. I wasn't waiting in line, or walking through the cafe. I was at the table where other people were seated maskless and was caught off guard. I gave a confused face to him, and he responded with, "I don't get it- what's your question?" as if I was an idiot and the rules were very clear. I tried to explain that I simply noticed other people not wearing masks, and was surprised that even though I was at my table already that I needed to wear one. I said, "It doesn't look like these people are wearing masks..?" to which one of their regulars, a woman next to me, snapped and said, "That's because we're DRINKING COFFEE!" This was surprising to me, as she wasn't drinking coffee at all. She was sitting there maskless on her phone. It was a small restaurant, so I didn't see much of a difference between me standing at the table next to her maskless and her seated without a mask on. She snapped at me again, as if I was resisting, which I wasn't. I was simply just trying to understand the rules of their business. I approached the register to order a coffee, and the guy acted like nothing happened. "How are you today?" I'm like..."Um...I wasn't trying to not follow the rules. I was just surprised that there were any and also making sure I understood what you wanted me to do in here." He told me he "wasn't judging me" and that "he didn't think I was an anti-masker," but the tone didn't quite match. His customer was straight up hostel as if I said I refused to wear one, which couldn't be farther from the truth, and his responses to me left me feeling like I was in fact being judged. I sat down (I kept the mask on even as I had my drink), and another barista appeared (I'm assuming the business owner and lectured the customer about reprimanding other customers about their mask policy. She said, "I just CAN'T DEAL WITH IT! I CANNOT!" As if I caused a scene in the cafe and she had every right to snap at me. She left. They proceeded to talk about the situation as if I wasn't right in front of them, but it's a small shop and I could hear them debating whether she was right or wrong, which I thought was weird to do while I was still there. I was staring at them and they continued. The tattoo guy seemed to be on her side, while the other guy was insistent that she shouldn't get involved with the customers. I'm not 100% certain, but I swear I heard the tattooed barista say something like, "Well when she did it to [that other customer], that guy was more innocent." While I'm sure the tattoo sleeve barista would insist that he didn't have a problem with me, I could just tell there was a bite underneath and that unquestionably I was in the wrong, and if he was backing up her treatment of me, then I feel that way even more so. I appreciated the other barista telling her that she shouldn't talk to the customers like that, but the entire experience made me feel uncomfortable and it felt very hostile about mask-wearing, even to people who aren't trying to cause trouble. I've seen plenty of people in other businesses tell customers to wear masks nicely. Based on the baristas' conversation, it sounds like this woman does this a lot (to the point where she needs to be told to stop), so don't go there without a mask on before entering the building or she might snap at you too! It has a lot of good reviews, but I didn't think it was anything special anyway, so not a big loss. I think Regent Coffee on Brand is way better and the people are nicer :) read more

This time bringing my 16oz mug. The barista is an equally warm and nice woman that shows pride and enjoyment in her job. Then she fills and tops off my mug with a soft heart with care. At this point I thought that's nice they filled up my cup, even though they didn't up charge from their normal 12oz size, but will it taste too milky? My first smell and sip dispelled all that quick! Stumbled upon this cute little gem of a coffee place while I was waiting on my car to be tinted. Per the Yelp reviews, it seemed worth it to check it out and I'm glad I did! The interior is amazing - very aesthetically pleasing and bright with a calm vibe. I was impressed with the customer service; I was greeted immediately upon entering and they patiently answered the questions I had on some of the more unique drinks. The grilled cheese and tomato soup combo was delicious although it is only on the menu until they're out as a customer came in after me asking for one and was told no more. Stopped by on a Tuesday morning to get a cappuccino. I don't do any coffee drinks with sugar or other flavor, so I can definitely vouch for their beans and espresso quality. The coffee is fragrant and fruity, the flavor is on the lighter side as opposed to bold, but that suits me just fine - I prefer my coffee not too bitter or burnt. One of the best cappuccinos I've had in LA! They do offer pastries - got a cheese danish that was delicious. Set up seems very mindful of the pandemic - store interior is closed to the public, the reception is a small booth carved out at the front of the store with minimal contact required by the customers. Highly recommended! Street parking is abundant when I was there, but could get busy during the weekend? Really liked this place! Was puttering around Glendale last weekend, doing some chain store shopping, when I remembered I hadn't had my morning caffeine yet. Popped into Highlight, planning to get something boring like cold brew or an iced americano, but noticed the intriguingly-named Nathan Palmer. I was all, "coffee and lemonade?," and the barista was like, "just trust me," and I'm glad I did, because that shit was delicious. Way more refreshing than coffee has a right to be. I don't know the exact ratios, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly lemonade, but there was just enough cold brew in there to keep the no-caffeine headache away. I kind of wish Highlight was a lil closer to my neck of the woods, but I think if it were, it'd be overrun with a bunch of eastside insufferables, so I will just consider it a "special occasion" cafe, as if driving to Glendale to visit Cost Plus is a special occasion. Smallish space on the corner, with large windows on both sides. The coffee menu isn't fussy or overly large, but what they do is well done. We had an excellent pastry as well as three different coffee drinks. The chai tea latte was very spiced and foamy. The "plain" latte was perfect - and served at the right temperature. The mocha latte? Left a slight bit of chocolate at the bottom of the mug. Only suggested improvement - non-fat milk. The prices are a bit high for the coffee cup size, and the pastry is a bit more expensive than at other local spots. read more

I came here to get some midterm cramming in on a Friday night before I headed to LA Zoo lights nearby, and it is a great place to study. They have wifi, outlets, and window views. They have a pretty hip location right on the corner of Glendale and Broadway, but unfortunately the place is pretty tight, so the nearest bathroom would be a port-a-potty up the street. I just moved to the area and am looking for a new coffee shop and the service at this one was awful. The barista working was very unfriendly. We asked for our latte with no foam and he told us that the lattes are very "wet with little foam." However, when we received the latte, one quarter of it was foam. We went back in to ask to add a little more milk to it but he cut me off and said that was how it's made before I could even finish. We brought up how we asked for no foam at the beginning and he condescendingly began to explain the process of frothing milk to me as if I've never had a latte before. I said "thanks for educating me" and he responded "you're welcome" and literally turned around away from me.
