I work near here sometimes and always enjoy the pizza/wings/french fries. The inside service is always great and the environment is clean/dark but with the open windows in the summer/patio its very nice for its location. The Large pepperoni pizza asked to be cooked well done is my classic go to pizza order anywhere and 8/10 times they get it cooked too perfection and the ingredients are good. 2/10 times though they just dont keep it in long enough and for $20 for 1 pizza you dont want to tell the hostess "put it back in the oven for me" when you are in a rush. read more

My friends and I have been going for years for trivia night despite the poor to average food. Service tends to be slow, but since we're only ever there for trivia, we figure they're busier than usual on those nights. What finally got me to write this review is that I'm tired of the owner not caring one bit for food sensitivities when what I'm asking for is a very easy fix. I am gluten-intolerant. They are one of the only pizza places I know of that offers no gluten-free pizza alternative. What I wanted, though, was a gyro in a lettuce wrap. They have lettuce wraps for tacos, but it's 'against policy' (quote from the owner according to our waiter) to use a lettuce wrap for a gyro. I would have accepted a reason of not enough wraps for the tacos they expect (for instance), but 'against policy'? He's the owner! He can make the policy!!! (And it's worth noting that I did get a gyro in a lettuce wrap a few months ago!) EDIT: I forgot to mention that the fries used to be real, and now they're processed crap. The menu did change recently and we had hopes that it would be better, but it is not. EDIT 2: And service is slow because they never have enough servers. If I could give this negative stars, I would I was just an employee employed there and I worked six days straight, got into an accident and was Still showed up to work and was only 15 minutes late. They chose to fire me after burning me out six days without any kind of warning whatsoever. This is why the turnover in the service sucks and I will admit because I am a very good server and I drove 35 minutes a day. I even told them I gave up a job at Ashley's to work there the boss didn't even have the decency to have a conversation with me. He decided to do it through text then decided to shoot another employee a text message telling them everything I was saying. I was just told by a bunch of customers that they were excited to see that I was still there. And that obviously means that the turnover is ridiculous and that's probably because they fire people without even giving them an idea of why they are. They said I was late over a dozen times I only worked there two weeks. I worked 10 shifts and I was only late for three they went off of another employee calling, and saying I was late on a day. I was supposed to be there at 5 PM. They thought I was supposed to be there at four and I was not, and so she texted the boss who decided not even to look at the schedule, which would be Adrian as well as Doug. These people are very ignorant and they care nothing about anyone they have no concern or care for anybody that works for them. I highly suggest that you do not go to this place because these people are a scam. They are messed up and they completely and utterly ruins everything. They told me they were going to send me the paycheck and blocked me after I said I'm not at that address I would like to pick it up so therefore this was very unprofessional the whole place is ran unprofessionally I highly suggest if you're looking to work here that you just don't because you'll get fired over anything and it won't be even a thought in your head until the day you get that text message. This use to be a favorite place for pasta meals, especially eggplant parm, but all removed from menu. Although beer selection is great, food has been reduced to usual bar selections. I was there thursday, oct 31, during trivia night, unfortunately a waitress spilled a large glass of water in my lap, was soaked head to toe, including my shoes. Although apologetic, I proceeded to suffer thru my meal. When check arrived, I was charged full amount, no offer to pay for my sandwich and beer, total $12, discount my meal, or offer a free beer. This establishment is not far from my place of employment and while pizzerias are not my typical "go to" place for lunch, I do occasionally crave what they usually have to offer, whether it's pizza or a hoagie or cheesesteak. I arrived early, so as not to allow it to sit and get cold before it could be placed in my hands. I had to wait several minutes upon my arrival before I could walk out the door with it. In my excitement and anticipation I quickly opened it in my car to take my first bite. My initial bite was okay. I quickly realized that their description of what was on the sandwich versus what I received was different. Their menu said the sandwich had pulled pork, however it had slices of loin. Loin is very lean to begin with and they grilled these slices, drying them out even more. I feel like the loin was not made the same day or even the day before. Most of it was leathery, making for a very dry sandwich. Furthermore, I must've chosen the "right" side of he sandwich to start eating from because the slices at the end had edges that were inedible. I initially thought I was biting into bone considering how dry and tough they were. This was my first time eating here and I will NEVER recommend ordering their Cubano. First if all, they did not prepare it according to their menu description. Secondly, the cook and manager allowed an inferior product to leave their kitchen. I may go back, with the hope that they will produce an item that may be more popular on their menu better. First impressions weigh heavy but then again I am usually open to giving second chances. I had a Stromboli and my wife had a club sandwich and we split a house salad. Our server was attentive and helpful, and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The food is okay, though the chicken sub I ordered last time had MAYBE two tiny chicken tenders in it. The service is where this place fails. It's almost comical how bad it was. We gave this place many chances. There isn't much I could say that hasn't already been said in other reviews here - but trust me - they are all accurate. The last time we went (likely will be the last time ever) we joked before arriving that it would probably be empty, our orders would probably still be wrong, and we'd probably have to wait 30+ minutes for anyone to help us, +30 minutes for someone to bring our cards back after asking for a check. !!! FALSE ADVERTISING !!! They have a sign which says $1 plain pizza slices and when you get your bill they charge you $1.80 a slice! I don't care about the extra 80 cents, but the fact that the manager did not budge and said "you have to get a Miller Lite Pint to get the discount" was uncalled for. No where on the sign does it say you have to get a Miller Lite in order to receive the pizza discount. Another thing is, we bought plenty of other foods and our drinks were majority bottled beer, if not beer on tap! Also, we had quite a few items ordered that never came out! We were gracious and let it go, yet we were treated as if we were "cheap customers" who only wanted their 80 cents a slice back. It's called "principle." We were regulars here and have always praised Highland via social media and word of mouth, but after today, we are done with Highland. A very mixed experience. Beer selection good. Friendly and attentive wait staff (place was empty). Pizza sauce and dough was the highlight. Sauce was very tomato flavored and a touch sweet, perfect for pie or sandwiches. Toppings however are a different story. Sausage was tasty but obviously bulk frozen from a commissary. Veggies not cut uniform, affecting cook. Inside of boli was cool to cold, crust exterior right = oven too hot or ingredients kept too cold. Cheesesteak was OK. Chicken Parmesan spaghetti was very good (sauce). Some things are great, others off. Will give a second visit soon to see continuity read more

Food here is good enough, it's priced on par with every other pizza joint around. The service here is absolutely abysmal. My family and I call and get take out frequently because my wife really likes their pizza. They frequently get our orders wrong, or even worse never bother processing the order so when I show up to pickup our food it's not even been made yet. In house service is just as bad, with the servers being as slow as can be, and the beer selection insultingly priced. Avoid this place if you can. The service is bad, and the staff is unapologetic about it. I've seen what I believe to be the owner several times and it's obvious why the staff is this way, it trickles down. Great beer selection? Yes. Service? God no. However, this was the worst service experience I've ever had. Granted, we were told that it was our server's first day, but it took over 30 minutes to get asked for our drinks/orders and over 30 minutes AGAIN to get our checks. We were there on a Thursday at noon for lunch. Not exactly busy time. If it's someone's first day, have someone there who can simply split a check. There were 9 of us on 6 different checks. We each got a sandwich and a couple bottles of beer. Not crazy hard to keep track of. They had to call a manager in to figure out how to split the check. At one point, our server even said "if one of you wants to volunteer to figure out the system, be my guest." The other server (who had more experience I guess?) gave us attitude when we seemed to be getting somewhat upset that it was taking 25 minutes to get us a check. Is a local spot, atmosphere is like a typical pizza joint. They have beers most are not my style. Some employees are nice.... Pam, the bartender is absolutely miserable and rude. Her service is most certainly sub par to any standard. I have personally witnessed cooks in the kitchen (visible) without aprons, hair nets, or gloves. These are all requirements from PA department of health. Especially now with Covid 19. Adrian and Eddie's service is ok... recently prices went up and for the value/quality of the food has declined. We have ordered food to go several times and it does not fair well until eaten. You HAVE to eat it there for it to be of a better quality (not sure if it's a packaging style issue or not). Personally I would suggest another place to eat. In proximity to Highland we now enjoy Brooklyn pizza and salt and pepper bistro. We will not be spending any more time or money here. read more

The service staff turns over every time you come in - bad management? The food is completely indifferent. They do not care about the food. One time you will get something prepared pretty well, the next time it will be awful. The sauce for pizzas and pastas is overly sweet. A buffalo sub will have two small chicken tenders and a bit of cheese on a big roll making you feel like they left out most of the filling. I live close to Highland and continue to be disappointed with it. It has so much potential. The food is mediocre at best, the beer is very expensive vs similar places and the service is hit or miss. When I talk to people about Highland, we all have the same complaints: food is okay if the right guy is in the kitchen (that is a direct quote), had to chase down my check all the way into the kitchen, couldn't get waited on at all. When the owner is not there, the standards go down even further. For example, closing up before the printed hours, closing the kitchen really early if not busy (like at 9 pm), mopping floors and turning up chairs at 8 pm. My plan going forward is this: go only for a major sporting event that I don't get on tv at home. Nurse one beer and I won't order food. Best I can do until things change. read more
