After the great service I received at this business, I knew Roz deserved a review…read more My wife, son & I are staying at the Massanutten Resort a few miles up the road from Harrisonburg. We were at Luray Caverns when my son's iPhone 5 stopped working. (15 year-olds do not take loss of contact well!!) Using Yelp I called a couple of likely places. The first did not answer, the second did not repair phones, but referred me to Roz. It was already six and Roz closes at seven, so I was not hopeful- it's a 40 minute drive just to get to the shop. But the owner told me to come in; he would take a look at the phone. We got there at 6:45p. True to his word, the owner looked at the phone & then fixed it!! He stayed late, until 7:15p and was very pleasant to boot. And I was charged a very reasonable amount. This is my first Yelp review, but I felt compelled to write this one.

Sloppy Workmanship, Broken Components, and Misplaced Trust I…read morebrought my Alienware Aurora R10 gaming desktop here for a BIOS recovery issue. I chose this shop because the owner's son was very respectful and well-mannered, so I decided to give them an opportunity. Despite being a 7-year-old system, the shop seemed amazed by the premium hardware inside, including a Ryzen 9 16-core CPU, an NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti with 11GB of Samsung GDDR6 video memory, 64GB of gaming RAM, and 4TB of total storage (a 2TB SSD and a 2TB hybrid OEM Barracuda HDD). Unfortunately, my trust was completely misplaced due to incredibly sloppy workmanship all the way around. The Key Issues: Hardware Damage: The technician forced the internal power supply swing-arm shut without properly routing the wires. They snapped the locking clip entirely off my secondary 2TB hybrid hard drive port, destroying the drive (which housed my entire Steam library) and leaving plastic debris inside the case. Misrouted & Disconnected Wi-Fi: The WLAN module wireless antenna wires were routed incorrectly and completely disconnected, just sitting loosely in front of the chip. I had to manually reconnect them myself just to get my Wi-Fi working. Incorrect Assembly & Error Codes: They plugged the liquid cooling pump and the CPU radiator fan into the wrong motherboard headers. This threw an error banner on boot, which the owner tried to click past and dismiss as "nothing" until I investigated it myself and pointed out the reversed cables. Missing Safety Parts: They left three motherboard screws completely out of the system. Even worse, they forgot to reinstall my plastic GPU support bracket and a rear PCIe slot cover, leaving a heavy graphics card sagging with zero support and an open hole in the chassis. Inconsistent Communication: I was told they desoldered the BIOS chip to program it externally, but visual inspection showed no evidence of any desoldering work on the original board. It cost me $364 in labor, diagnostics, and a replacement motherboard, plus the cost of a ruined hard drive. Now I have to make a separate trip back after the 4th of July just to retrieve the structural parts they left out of my machine. If you have high-end hardware, buyer beware.

I found Your IT Dept through Yelp when my fav laptop physically crashed to the ground. Fortunately…read moreit's a Toshiba and solid as a rock, but the screen wouldn't turn on, and the directions for tearing it down to test it were just too complicated. (Turned out I needed a new LED screen entirely; the last step in the testing process. So glad I didn't attempt the repair on my own!) They had it done in no time for cheap, plus cleaned out the entire laptop (tore it down, wiped out the keyboard, etc) for no extra. Runs better now than it did before. And their ideas for the future of their company are innovative; I'm excited they're in the area and do local repairs (and sell nicely refurbished, all-legal computers and peripherals), as well as work the larger companies in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, etc. They give you a card, stay in touch through email or phone, and work fast. Worth the visit and a bookmark imo, esp for what they WANT to do with wireless in the future. I got some GREAT ideas from them to save money and get faster internet. Nothing but love for these guys; they clearly love their work and the community, and tell it to you straight. No punches pulled, and very professional.

I'm a W&L college student, but unlike many other students, I'm on complete financial aid with limited (if any) support from my parents. I tried over and over to get my "stupid, useless" laptop to turn on, but of course it did not. At around 7:30 pm I started calling IT companies even though I knew I wouldn't be able to afford any repairs. I had no luck until I called Your IT Department, who miraculously picked up the phone at 8 pm on a Saturday (I'm from Chicago, that's just simply unheard of). Though their prices are extremely reasonable, with my situation it would not be possible for me to pay upfront. Upon expressing this concern and asking about payment plans to the owner, Matt, he simply laughed and said "don't worry, we'll take care of you". By 9:30 they had met me to pick up my laptop and begin repairs. They were super nice and very reassuring that I would have the data I needed recovered (I was mildly freaking out, the philosophy proposal for the 15-20 page final philosophy paper worth 60% of the final grade was lost somewhere on my oh-so-broken laptop and had not been backed up anywhere else - on top of this I'm a writer and none of my incoherent babblings are backed up anywhere else either). I can't describe how grateful I am for the compassion of Your IT Department; not only was this the most efficient and exceptional service that I had ever received, but they had a complete understanding for my particular situation and were willing to work with me still, something most places would scoff at in our "wonderful" capitalistic society. My computer was finished with all repairs by Sunday night, which I can only describe as either remarkable or magic - they must have used magic - since I didn't even hear back from other IT places in town until Monday afternoon. When I got it back, it was in better condition than before (I'm serious, magic is at work here), and all my data was recovered. I would not only highly recommend Your IT Department for any technological needs, this is the ONLY company I would recommend. Thank you guys again for AMAZING service and for saving my poor little laptop's life.
