They represent more than 260 artists from all over the Alleghany Highlands area (Southwest Virginia and parts of West Virginia). The friendly, volunteer staff were helpful and excited to share information about the handmade treasures found here. I was surprised by the variety of artwork and I want to highlight a few types that I loved: painting (realism, abstract, impressionistic, expressionistic, etc.) wood working (turned wood, live edge, sculpture, table ware, and decorative), jewelry making (custom designs in both traditional and modern versions), crafting (quilts, basket weaving, sewing, etc.), and photography (black and white, artistic, realistic styles and subjects such as nature, landscapes and local sites such as the Washington and Lee campus). Also, for the first time, I saw fly fishing lures displayed along with other crafts. Perfect, and well-deserved! I found this store after glimpsing the main sign on route 64. After you get off the exit (24 I believe), just follow signs into old town (historic) Clifton Forge and continue to Ridgeway Street. Note: this non-profit center appears to be located in a former retail space, so it is not a stand alone building, it is located in a row of shops (near Cafe Museo). Look for the Cafe Museo sign which is easy to spot. There is plenty of street parking. This place is a real treat and I wish I had more time to take one of their classes, add the walking tour of old town, and stop at one of the lunch spots nearby. I visited after a morning hike at Douthat State Park, but this shop is also easily accessible to visitors from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, Goshen, Warm Springs, Lexington, Covington, or anyone passing through to Beckley or the the New River Gorge National Park or Gauley River National Recreation Area. Before the next holiday or family celebration, consider a thoughtful, handmade gift from this unique shop and support local artists in the area.

Stopped in here last weekend with my mom looking for some specific items she needs for her home -…read moretwo end tables, a bench, and a computer desk. She also found that she wants a hutch, a tv stand, and a kitchen table set while we were looking in here.... lol. This store is HUGE with tons of great stuff - I think it's like 3500 sq. feet or something. They have small collectibles, lamps, candles, some drapery (small amount), and TONS of handmade Amish furniture. Prices are fair for some good quality stuff. I spent around $600 for an end table, a magazine table, a custom computer desk, a large bookshelf and a pretty good sized bench. We took everything that day except the computer desk which is going to be made to order (with the colors my mom chose) and will take about 4-6 weeks. I was impressed - I saw a lot of really cute things in here and they have TONS of furniture in different sizes and options - kitchen tables, benches, chairs, tables, end tables, beds, nightstands, tv stands, cabinets, kitchen shelves, display tables, display cabinets, bookshelves, etc. You name it - you can probably find it here. I've known for a while that there's a thrift store somewhere in the area run by people from my…read morechurch. Last week, I finally realized it was the one I pass by almost every day. (I'm a bit slow on the uptake. don'tjudgeme.) Hours are as follows: M-R: 9 am - 5 pm F: 9 am - 2 pm (3 pm?) Sat: closed (church!) Sun: 12 pm - 4:30 p.m. I was in the market for some warm jackets/coats, because I really only had one warm jacket (yep, one) to keep me alive through the winter, and what if something happened to it!?!? I've also basically been wearing my shoes into the ground, so I figured a pair of boots might be nice for the winter. And yes, retail therapy is a thing. There's a rack out on the porch with free clothes (just don't take the hangers), and the store is somewhat divided into two sections. The left side has mostly kids' clothes and a bunch of warm jackets and the side you enter from has all other clothes + shoes. There are books and various types of food to the right. :O My friend happened to be working there the day before I was planning on going, so I told him what I was looking for and he texted me pictures and prices. Twas pretty awesome. There were a lot of wool jackets that I would have loved to get, but I was way too short and/or shrimpy for them. This wasn't too much of a problem though since I found plenty of other things. :D! For $34.98, I obtained the following: -Red heels that I can actually walk in -Super comfy dark brown heels that I can wear to clinic (yay!) -Leather ankle boots (black) -Leather knee-high boots (black) -Super warm blue winter jacket -Super comfy beige hoodie -Super warm maroon vest -Leather jacket (originally from Yarid's, which I cannot afford) (I also picked up a free sweater from the porch.) Basically, the shoes/regular clothes were $2-3, the jackets were $5 and the leather jacket was $10. I am rather ecstatic over my finds! :] Everyone there is super nice/friendly. They foster kids who have been pulled from drug-addicted homes, host free cooking classes for the community to teach them how to make healthy + delicious meals, operate a school and raise money for families who have fallen on hard times, which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of people out there. The distillery was easy to find - outside of town, very close to the airport. Plenty of parking, and very attractive grounds. Inside, thrilled to find a huge selection of merchandise, friendly staff, and a tasting bar. Tasting portion (which does have a fee) is a very generous pour, so feel free to split between two people. You can always order a cocktail or pour of what you like. I learned about the label protocol and mash bills, and left with a few bottles, stickers, cards, maple syrup and manhattan cocktail concentrate. Oh, and huge smile on my face.

The person at the register gave us directions to Paisley Park the timber frame pavilion that Barn wood builders built for the people of the city of White Sulfur Springs after there was a flood. Also directions to the boneyard but you weren't allowed to go onto the property so we didn't go to that and it was 14 mile away from Barnwood Living. Face mask are required.
