I'm super picky about who does my hair and had been going to the "it" stylist in Miami for a decade before coming home to Memphis. Anyways I wasn't picky who I went to and got Matched with Margaret. She is sooo on point and knew what to do without me giving that much instruction. I have really long thick hair which can be a pain for stylists to work with, yet she tackles it with ease. The other thing I love is that she's so uplifting. I feel so happy when I see her and get excited when I get to go to her. I also was on a reality show and had her touch me up and get me "stage ready" and honestly my hair was on point the whole time.

However, four times in the last year I have been called within an hour of my appointment only to be told at the stylist wouldn't be able to make it in, and they would need to reschedule, and they would not be able to accommodate for a cut that day. I understand that people have personal lives, and once or twice if someone can't make it in, I certainly understand. But four times is a trend that I just can no longer ignore. Again, the service is fine, but if you rely, like I do, on being able to count on a haircut at a certain time, then I'm afraid that they may fall short. If you can afford to be a little more flexible with your time this might not be an issue, but just take it under consideration. Now I'm off to Sport Clips. Wish me luck.

A lot of stylists work for years and never attain any skills greater than mediocre. I have what has been described as "difficult hair" because it is straight on the sides and has serious wave and body in the back. To be able to address that takes talent. A lot of younger stylists are not trained to do any styles above the shoulders as the beachy waves trend continues for decade after decade. Haircutting is becoming a lost artform. Greg is able to work with shorter hair. I have gotten many compliments, and I recommend him without reservation--although you will need a reservation to sit in his chair! He's pleasant and on point, and he is a rare find. Five stars.

So here's the deal. I hate my hair, I'm bad with hair, and in my two years in Memphis, I've gotten…read moreexactly 3 haircuts, none of which have thrilled me enough to go back. And now some of my hair is breaking off along the hairline, which prompted my doctor to tell me to go get a good haircut while we work on that. But of course, where to go? I mentioned my dilemma to an acquaintance, who promptly suggested Tangles, and specifically Gerri. I called, and was aghast to learn from Stephanie, their ever-friendly receptionist, that I wouldn't be able to get in on an evening or weekend for something like eight weeks. However, she patiently worked with me (and put up with several meandering phone calls!) and we eventually settled on a lunchtime appointment some six weeks out (never mind that, while I live 5 minutes from Tangles, I work 20 minutes away). Fast forward to the actual appointment. I arrived a few minutes early, was greeted by Stephanie, and told that Gerri would be right out, which indeed she was. She promptly exclaimed "Oh, I knew so-and-so was sending me someone, and I'm so glad it's you!", gave me a hug, took my purse to stash in a safe place, and settled down to examine my hair. And that, my friend, is where I was really impressed. Gerri took the time to listen to exactly why I hate my hair and what my doctor told me, combed it out to look at it, and suggested a bob with side-swept bangs that would both improve the look of the breakage while shortening the length that it would need to grow out to. She proceeded to shampoo me herself (I hate the hoity-toity places that have special shampoo people) and give me exactly that cut, which I absolutely LOVE. I'll let Gerri's words speak for themselves: "I'm on Team Karen. I would never do anything to to you that won't look fantastic." The grand total for such amazing service and skills? $30. I would have happily paid twice that and not batted an eye, it was that good. Before I left, Gerri gave me her card and made sure Stephanie got me scheduled for an evening appointment 9 weeks out, so I'm good to go. So if you need a stylist, give Tangles a call. It's totally worth the wait!

Brought in my daughter. Hair was very uneven when he stopped. My aunt pointed it out and he said…read moreits because my daughter was moving. He'd given up. My aunt had him fix it. He used electric clippers on the back of her hair and cut my 3 year olds neck. It was pointed out to him and he didn't even apologize to my aunt or daughter. Horrendous hair cut. I had to take her to have it cut again to get it fixed. My aunt paid a lot to have it cut. It was terrible.

They were very friendly as soon as I walked in the door. There is a nice waiting area and some cute clothes and jewelry for sale to look at while you wait. I had my appointment with Stevi. I got highlights and a haircut. She was super nice and did a great job on my hair. I love my highlights! I look forward to returning here for more pampering.

Honestly, there were so many choices, I didn't know which one I wanted lol Within just a minute or so "Leah" came around the corner and took me to her chair. My hair is difficult, and I haven't been able to find the right person to help me with it, but I was so pleased with the results! I'm even going to get extensions to plump my thinning hair up a bit. WARNING DO NOT GO IF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR!!!…read more I honestly did not even want to,give this salon one star, but I have to put a rating. If Yelp allowed it, I would put a fourth of a star. Billy is a terrible stylist, who should just admit he can't handle natural hair, but was too greedy for the money to do this. Firstly, I should have known better because everyone had permed hair and one person was getting a perm as I was sitting there. Billy the stylist seemed nice and I had gone there four years earlier, but I came with my hair already blown out and just had him to flat iron it. This time I had my hair blown out but he took me to the bowl to wash my hair, something that I thought might be a good idea because I assumed that he would condition my hair pretty well afterwards. However, after he washed my hair twice, he only put conditioner on my roots and then put me under the dryer. After I came out my hair was a dry tangled mess. He then proceeded to blow dry my hair with a paddle brush tugging at it roughly. When he finished with the brush, he proceeded to use a fine tooth comb and comb through it. Again he was yanking my hair berating me for not allowing him to cut my hair as he wanted to ( he kept saying I needed a trim and even was bold enough to to tell my Aunt and mother that he would MAKE me trim my hair) purposely damaging it to the point that he wanted to cut. He then roughly ran a hot comb through my hair yanking it through as well. At the end he tried to disguise the damage by lightly bumping the ends under but it was very obvious that it was severely damaged and the ends were strings. To make matters worse he didn't use a leave-in conditioner before he blow dried my hair and neither a heat protectant before he began to flat iron. As a natural person we work very hard on our hair and to have someone to purposely damage your hair just to make a point is frustrating, heartbreaking, and infuriating. I had to put Shea butter in my hair to keep it from frizzing up because of the extreme lack of moisture and damage created by the passive aggressive stylist. However, I didn't let him ruin my weekend and enjoyed my brother's med school graduation and my cousin's high school graduation. And I will go back to Chicago and enjoy my beautiful life there and my budding legal career. Billy you don't win, in fact thank you because now I will be using my Olaplex every week instead of once a month. Can't wait to see how much more will my hair will thrive in the future.
