My stylist is Greg. I have had two successful haircuts with him and am scheduled for a third. He really knows hair. I don't say that because he has been in the business for a long time. A lot of stylists work for years and never attain any skills greater than mediocre. I have what has been described as "difficult hair" because it is straight on the sides and has serious wave and body in the back. To be able to address that takes talent. A lot of younger stylists are not trained to do any styles above the shoulders as the beachy waves trend continues for decade after decade. Haircutting is becoming a lost artform. Greg is able to work with shorter hair. I have gotten many compliments, and I recommend him without reservation--although you will need a reservation to sit in his chair! He's pleasant and on point, and he is a rare find. Five stars. read more

I had the most amazing experience at Epic Total Salon today! I followed my stylist Zac Williams there and the whole environment was so awesome! Every single stylist and assistant were so sweet and inviting! I felt like I had been going there for years in just one day, it was really cool! I have to personally shout out Amber at Epic because I'm so happy I have found another really great stylist (because that's not easy) . I let her know what my hair goals were and she gave me a laid out plan for going from dark to lighter without damaging my hair. Another stylist I spoke to before wanted to immediately bleach my hair which would have been costly to take care of. Amber tested my hair before using any color and bleach wasn't even necessary. You can definitely tell the difference between amateur and expert. I've gotten a lot of complements on how my highlights have turned out and am so pleased with my experience! I am giving Epic 5 big stars. I go to Pam and she is absolutely fantastic. She's been doing my hair for over 10 years now and I've never once had a less than wonderful cut. The salon itself is pretty, trendy and very clean, with modern equipment. And it's always bustling and busy. I have to schedule appointments about two weeks in advance, sometimes more. But occasionally, if my schedule is flexible, I can get in quicker. read more

After moving to Memphis from Jackson, MS, I was terrified to try a new hair salon. I was very attached to my old hairstylist. I've been to Epic three times now in the past year and a half--and I've gotten my hair cut with Zack every time--I've really grown to like him. He gives honest and useful advice, but is also great to just have a casual conversation with. Most importantly, he's a great hairstylist--I just recently decided to go from waist-length hair to shoulder length hair. For someone, who has always had long hair, that was a big step for me, but Zack did a fabulous job and I still get compliments. The salon is always pretty busy but I've never had a tough time getting an appointment. Call at least a week before you want your cut so you can get a prime spot. read more

I have been here a few times. First, the positive: this place usually has openings (especially if you don't have a specific stylist you'd like to see), they were understanding when I had to cancel on short notice for an unexpected trip out of town, parking is easy, pricing is reasonable, and on weekdays it's downright relaxing to go here. Zac is personable and did a good job trimming my hair. With the summer being over, I can't go on a weekday anymore, so I went on a weekend and waited for thirty minutes beyond my appointment time for my hairstylist to acknowledge that I was there (I was sitting right across from the station, watching the stylist apply haircolor to a client). I was in a hurry, and I was more than a little ticked that they had clearly staggered clients and couldn't handle the volume they had booked for that Saturday. (Further evidence of this was the hairwash station that I was ushered to - it had an empty shampoo bottle lying in the sink). I understand that Saturdays are busy, but I probably wouldn't go back to this salon unless I wasn't able to get in elsewhere. My tip is to go here ON A WEEKDAY and ask for Zac. read more

I really wanted to like this place. Epic Salon was NOT that Epic. I was not satisfied with the outcome of my hair, went back the next day and they would not correct it. They said it would damage my hair if they did. So I ended up going to another Salon that fixed Epic's work. Epic charged me $180 dollars and then it cost me another $100, at a different Salon, to get it the way I wanted. read more

I was recommended to Zac at Epic nearly two years ago. I have lived in Memphis for 11 years, and hadn't found a stylist who could listen to my ramblings and come up with a color and style that works for me. Zac is that stylist. He asks questions, he listens, and he makes smart recommendations. He also offers great styling tips to use at home. Plus, this guy knows color. He is both intuitive and technical, and I have never gone home unhappy. Plus, the atmosphere is calming and friendly. I always feel that they are glad to see me. I am new to town. I found this place through Yelp. I requested Mark. Getting an appointment in the day was easy (around lunch) but I was not able to get a quick appointment during the weekend. Being desperate I took the lunch time Friday booking. Mark was easy on me. He cut my hair very conservatively, nothing crazy and the color was wonderful- natural and not over the top. I would use this place as my go to salon, but I'd say if I want anything edgy I'd be very specific. My 4 stars to to this place because of location, cleanliness, standard service, and the fact that my stylist knew how to be sure I left there happy. Making the appointment was also easy and when I arrived my stylist was ready and never left me waiting. 4 cheers to EPIC. By the way, love that the stylist had a credit card scanner for his iPhone. Good service, comfortable facility and people that actually can cut hair. It can also be an entertaining experience at times. Zack cuts my hair and I have very difficult hair to cut. He's been pretty consistent and actually knows what he's doing. Like me, he has ADD and is very easy to spool up and I get a kick out of listening to him just talk and talk and talk. All the employees and the owner are down to earth and really do treat you both as a friend and a valued customer. They are both professional and entertaining. As I wrote in another review, I'm new to the area, I'm a guy, and it's never easy to find a place to get a haircut where you're completely comfortable... but Epic hit the mark. From the outside, Epic looks like one of the many houses built in East Memphis in the 50's and 60's... but inside, it's laid out very well with different rooms and inviting lighting and decor. The people are excellent... all very down to earth yet continuously professional, and they treat you both as a friend and valued customer even on a first visit. The talent of the staff (at least the one I know), is on par with any great place you would go, and the clientele is a mix of male, female, old, and young. I really enjoyed it, and may have found my place for my time in Memphis. So, why not 5-stars? Well... there's always the "next level" when it comes to places like this. i.e. Thorps in Madison, WI... they served beer. Mitchell's in Cincinnati, OH... Debbie used a straight razor to do my entire cut (yeah, wtf, right? it was awesome). So... there's is the next level... but this is an excellent establishment, and I will be back. read more

He did an outstanding job and I am even happier with him than with my San Francisco stylist. Everyone in the salon makes you feel welcome and is so friendly. I went to Epic today for the first time. My old stylist stopped doing hair so I was in search of someone new that was closer to home. Yelp led me to Epic so I called to make an appointment and they set me up with Bernadette. She was great! I originally went in wanting to go back to my natural brown but she gave me her honest opinion based on my eye color and skin tone. I could not be happier. I never even made it past scheduling an appointment. I called to discuss the process of donating my hair to Locks of Love and I was telling her I was very nervous because it was my first time to donate. The lady was extremely rude to me acting like she had never heard of such a thing. I asked a couple questions and she responded with a very condesending attitude. I then told her I would make an appointment else where that would make me feel more comfortable. I recently went to Epic on a friends recommendation to see Jerrica. I asked for a trim and balayage. What I ended up with was 6 inches taken off and orange hair. I was told that I needed toner and that I would have to come back to have my hair fixed. Needless to say, I was not happy. I ended up having Alexis fix the color as best as she could but it still was not what I wanted. I asked Jerrica for a refund for the toner and all I received was $10. I personally feel that you should feel good about yourself when you leave a salon and I certainly did not. I will never go back to Epic. read more

My experience was with Kelly at Epic Salon. Went to get a basic hair cut, I'm a clean cut guy that wanted a simple fade, short on sides, faded up to longer hair at the top. I asked for this and she buzzed a one guard all the way up and to the point where my head curves with out fading. This is the most basic hair cut you can get and it looks terrible. I look like one of those skater kids with a weird Mohawk on the top of my head. I'm shy and not one to complain and even if I did complain I didn't want her trying to fix it. So I sent the pictures to my partner who agreed it looked terrible and called to speak to a manager. They do not have a manager he was told by Erin and that all the stylist are independent contractors so he would need to deal with Kelly. Kelly answered the phone extremely rude to me before I even said anything. She said she would refund my money just to get him to stop saying the hair cut was bad. She thought if he didn't like it I should have said something because she asked. Also they could not work me in the same day with another hair stylist. I just think they weren't willing. Extremely poor management style and service. Also extremely rude, snarky people to deal with. If I had been able to get this issue corrected with a manager then I would not be writing a review but no one seemed to want to take responsibility for their poor service . read more
