Great location, great service. Definitely will come back. I fell asleep during all 3 of services. However, this does not go against any of the 3 beautiful young women that provided a service to me, but Goulds, management, upper management, the rooms are not clean!!! Baseboards are dusty, lined with dirty and other peoples hair, walls are filmed with yellow film during my massage and other people's hair sheddings are on the robs and inside the tote bags. One should never walk in a bathroom and see the inside of the toilet rimmed with dried splashes of feces while I'm changing back into my clothes. I had to pee and did not feel comfortable because of how unclean it was. Again the women and the service was absolutely fantastic however the conditions of the building is not up to par. Maybe hire another cleaning service because dust on base boards and film on walls ain't it. A star for only my 3 wonderful young ladies that gave me outstanding service. While the methods were a bit unconventional - no shampoo + she cut my hair very quickly without even brushing it - I was happy with the end result! Very disappointed. The massage was the worst I'd ever had. The rubbing was unpleasant. I mentioned to Jamie she said it was the oil and the area I pointed was hot. I told her it didn't feel like enough oil and she offer me to pay more for a different oil in I thought wouldn't make a difference so I declined. I ended the massage. She says she let her manger know. Once she approached after I waited Her demeanor gave off she could care less. A solid 3.5 stars. This review is on the massage services only! I had an appointment on a Sunday for a relaxation massage. The place texted me 4 times to remind me of this appointment. It's easy to find on the corner of the street. Near the trolly. Upon entering staff were friendly. You complete a mini sheet with standard information and then we were taken back to our rooms. The masseuse I had had a very dramatic personality where she talked way to much and appeared to regret her statements several times. She did a good job with the massage. It appeared to be cleaned and we didn't have to wait for our appointments. You may get rushed out and it may not be a super relaxing experience. I had a terrible experience today. I booked a couples massage for me and my husband and I checked the box that said we wanted the same time in the same room. When we get there I was told someone else had half of the couples room so we couldn't have it. We were put in separate rooms with mine being right by the restroom. So while trying to have a relaxing massage I had to listen to the toilet flushing several times, doors slamming, people going up and down the stairs and people standing outside the door talking loudly. I finally told the lady giving me the massage that I was done way before my time was finished. It definitely was not relaxing. When we get to the check out I told the girl about the horrible experience and that we were supposed to be in the same room. She said well, for future reference, we don't do couples massages here anymore. I told her it was on the website and it said we could be in the same room at the same time. She just said well that kind of stuff doesn't come to us and was kind of smart about it. We will not ever be going back to Gould's again. If they are not going to honor the couples massage, then they should not have it on the website. I would give them a 0 if I could. read more

Came for a deep tissue massage with Nik who had a uniquely lazy technique of pinching and poking with little effect. Throughout the massage Nik listened to a podcast which was audible to me so rather distracting. He did not check in once on comfort or pressure and showed up 20 minutes after the start time. This review is about a 3 weeks late, but thought it warranted a review. I was a walk-in and paired up with Miss Brenda. Very much out of the norm for myself, but desperate for a haircut. The outside looked inviting and located conveniently within walking distance to the trolley. Brenda did a great job on my fine blond hair. Ironically, Mia told her she  must silence her phone and leave it in the chair (which was the plan), yet her phone provided her with tunes. As a result she didn't communicate  with or ask my wife about her preferences, how the pressure was, etc. she also made her keep her mask on during the massage which was strange to us. I wanted to go from my very dark brown to silver. It's a process, which I understand. But the stylist who did my hair was new and had never done this process before. She left it on too long and completely fried my hair. It is totally porous and Not able to be saved. I have to sit years until my hair grows out. Don't do hair bleaching is you legit don't know how to do it. Do a strand test if you need to. This damage is devastating. read more

My daughter and I are visiting Memphis for a birthday getaway. At 8 am when we arrived into town we grabbed coffee and decided to take a chance on getting a massage. Gould's spa took our call requesting spa treatments that day. Miraculously, two appointments were available at 11am for both of us. Terri did my daughters facial and exceeded her expectations! Kirsten was the massage therapist that gave me a superb reflexology massage. Review past due on the horrible service I received on two weeks ago. I'm still waiting for the stylist to contact me back. I went in for a hair color on my dark natural hair. My first disappointment was I was NOT told my appointment was blocked for only an hour and half due to covid-19 precautions until I was getting shampooed. An hour and a half later, I left with wet short hair with reddish orange blonde highlights. My color clearly had not been allowed to sit long enough. First, she trimmed my hair too short and uneven. Second, I have never left a hair salon with unstyled hair. Third, I paid too much money for a hair disaster that Renee, the stylist, could have tried to fix if she has blocked more time. But yet I was rushed out of her chair to allow her next customer to come inside the salon. She never even offered me time to come back. So disappointed. My hair still looks a mess. read more

Really enjoyed my spa morning here. Linda's massage was awesome and cleared out my sinuses (seriously!). She was open and communicative and just what my knotted-up muscles needed. My mani/pedi with Stacey was equally delightful. She did an amazing job and I enjoyed our conversation. (I'm saying this as a massive introvert who is usually silent during these treatments. I went into Gould's for a polish change on my Gel acrylics. The front desk let me know I'd have to wait over an hour which I was fine with. When I arrived, I met with Martha who almost instantly told me she couldn't be of help. I wanted my nail color to be pure black instead of blue black, as well as a slight file IF possible to make my nails a bit more pointed. When I asked for both these things, Martha suggested I leave and go somewhere else because she "only does manicures and pedicures" and thought I was asking too much. I reluctantly told her to go ahead and just put a coat of black on because I'd already waited for so long. I was charged 12 dollars for a coat of black on my nails. When I walked out into the light I immediately realized she left air bubbles in two of my nails and reshaped one nail into an awkward lump yet still charged me and talked to me very rude at first. read more

I've had a couple of bad experiences with male massage therapists in the past (super hairy arms scratching my back being notably the worst), but I have zero complaints about my entire experience today! Went to get a massage by Victoria the younger african american woman. Clearly she wasn't in the mood to work. Constantly left out the room and told me she needed to use the bathroom, which is something you'd think she would take care of before starting. She had an attitude the whole time. The bathrooms downstair had "poop stains" in the toilet. The nail tech Anne was discombobulate. Couldn't stop running her mouth and ended up letting the water over flow which caused my shoes to get ruined during the pedicure. This place is a fucking joke! read more

I'm just in town for the week. I've come here twice already. It's cute. It's clean. The first time they got me in right away. I got my hair blown out by Lena. Love it. Love her! It was a 5 star experience to be honest! Dropped in again, this time for a 30 minute massage. Hoping for a foot massage but that didn't exactly work out. No worries. (I think they said there wasn't a person available who was just certified for the feet.) So instead I opted for a head/neck/shoulders/jaw massage. I put a lot of emphasis on the Jaw part since I have a show in an hour and I sing 8 times a week in different cities for work. Sometimes I just want to make sure it's nice and loose. I'd like to emphasize again how much emphasis I put on having my jaw rubbed. About half of my 30 minute session was spent on my back. And some great work was done on my lower back. Which is very nice. She did a great job on that, but I was there for one reason: my Jaw. Eventually she worked her way up to my shoulders. It all felt very nice but the whole time I was thinking, it would be nice if she worked on my jaw. We had talked about it. And I tried to mention it during the massage. Fortunately, she did rubbed my jaw, but by the time she got there... Time was up. If it were just a general massage, it would have been MORE than fine. She's great! But I was pretty specific with what I needed today...and I didn't have my needs met. read more

I've been a Goulds client for over 5 years. I've never had a problem until May 4th, 2018. I asked Renee, who is a senior associate/manager at the Memphis Goulds Downtown Main St, to color my hair balayge blonde. I showed her about 3 different pictures of how I wanted it and a picture of me with blonde hair previously, so that was how I wanted it done. I also have clip in extensions that I apply to my hair daily that I wanted to be colored with my hair as well. I told her I was coming in with my hair already clipped in so she could see which piece went where. They are extremely easy to take in and out. She seemed as if she knew what she was doing because she said that she's been doing hair for 35 years. She left the clip ins in my hair and started bleaching my hair. I figured she knew what she was doing, because you're supposed to take them out then apply the bleach on them. So as she's doing my hair I'm curious to know how shes doing it because I'm very particular about my hair. Once I saw her take a peek at the foil to see how it was turning out I already knew she didn't do it how I wanted. Later on I noticed she didn't put blonde everywhere in the back like I wanted in the picture that I showed her. She basically did her own thing to my hair and told me that I didn't want the blonde to be overwhelming and got an attitude. Obviously I want it that way when I showed you pictures of how I wanted it to be and I've had it before!! At this point I'm irritated because this service is very expensive and I want it to be done right. She keeps telling me that it'll come out pretty and that she can't believe I don't trust her, but I already see it not coming out how I want it to. Not to mention she used a high volume bleach on my natural fine hair! I told her before that I didn't need a high volume on my hair or the weave but she did it anyway and told me I don't know anything about hair, uhhh obviously SHE didn't know. Now my hair looks fried and there's blonde in random spots, my hair is almost white, and now my expensive clip ins are all damaged, so now I'm out of money for the hair that I bought and she still made me pay for the horrible service she did. I just wanted to cry. I told her I'm not paying full price because this is not what I wanted. She said that I would have to pay something and I said that's fine but I'm not paying full price because this isn't worth it. I don't care how much the bleach cost, the job was horrible. I didn't even let her style it because it was so bad. The weave was blonde, gold, and brown and had a messy ombre look to it. She kept saying, look once you blow dry it it'll look better. I said no it won't! My hair is ruined! She said she would fix it, but she already used a high volume bleach on all my hair and it would just fall out! She kept using this lame excuse for why it came out like that! I missed out on an event because I'm so ashamed of my hair, and now I have to spend more money trying to get it fixed and this is just unacceptable!! Renee even called the cops because I refused to pay the whole amount. I'm just so disappointed in Renee I will never go back to her or a Goulds ever again! read more

I really enjoy this salon / spa downtown. It is within walking distance of a lot of apartments / hotels in northern downtown, which is extremely convenient for me. When I've had last minute needs I have always booked an appointment with a salon / spa employee within the same day. I've had multiple haircuts and a pedicure here. I originally thought the pedicure station may be out in the open, but it was actually off in the back. I'd highly recommend this salon / spa for great service, staff, and ease.
