To be clear, this is not a review of the service. I HIGHLY recommend Tiana at the Union Ave location. She is the best. This is a review of the business, both corporate and Memphis franchise ownership. I signed up for S Pass and didn't use it as much as I thought I would, ending up with over $300 in credit for services. I asked the manager if it would be possible to pause membership and still use my credit before resuming. She told me that she could remove my payment method from the account, the membership would still be active, I could use my credit, and add a payment method back later on. Perfect. Except that not only did this suspend my membership, and so did not work the way it was explained to me, in the intervening month the entire program was discontinued. Corporate headquarters informed me that (though when signing up for the Pass there was no indication that I was entering a contract with anyone other than the corporate entity), they took no responsibility for this or the fact that there was NO NOTIFICATION of the termination of the program sent to members. They flatly refused any assistance and told me it was the Memphis franchisee's responsibility to resolve the issue. I called the manager again. She returned my call saying that I could at least begin paying the monthly fee again and not be out the over $300 that I had lost. I went into the store to do so and had booked a service as well. When I arrived, I was informed that I could not, in fact, do this. I was provided a free service that day (the manager, to be fair, was as helpful as I think she was able to be at this point), but am still out a fair amount of money. I hate that I cannot continue to visit Tiana for service - again, she is fantastic - but I cannot give business to an establishment that wouldn't even offer to split the difference on a gift card to keep a loyal customer. read more

A review that's outside of my comfort zone due to its intimate setting but here we go! My first visit at Sugaring NYC- Memphis was last summer of June but yesterday made my seventh visit. Prior to my first visit, I received conventional waxing services but not sugar waxing. I have heard of the term without the knowledge of the full benefits. That's until a Soror, who's the owner of the Memphis and soon to be Midtown location explained thoroughly. Which encouraged me to give it a try. In short term it's like comparing fruits and vegetables to organic verse none organic. Sugaring is applied to the body temperature minimizing discomfort, still treats discoloration, the clean up is effortless with water and eliminates the usage of tongue depressors. *That's if you're a zero waste savvy.*. Unlike conventional wax is composed of rubber resins and other potentially harmful chemicals. All of my six visits were serviced by Danielle, loved her! Unfortunately she's no longer working at the franchise in efforts of receiving her degree. Which I salute and applaud her because school isn't for the weak! My last two recent visits were serviced by Sarah. Professional, personable and comforting through her words of encouragement. I'm elaborating the word "comforting " because if you're a first time wax (conventional or sugaring) client it could be misleading as everyone's tolerance level towards pain varies. I can say the more consistence the better for the benefits of less pain, becoming more comfortable with the process including your waxer and the swift of hair removal. This location is always promoting special offers on the website or the chalkboard as you walk into the studio. Sugaring NYC's motto "Once you try Sugaring, you will never go back to waxing" is one of the truest statements I can vouch for. read more

Received a lash lift and eyebrow tint. The technician was lovely and professional but the technique taught is to leave the glue on your eyelids and not rinse anything away to allow you out, back into the world. I had to peel glue off my eyes from the lash lift. Not sure I agree with that. I should leave looking great not like I am peeling eyelid skin. If that isn't the normal procedure that they don't remove residue then I hope they improve training. It's cheaper than lash lounge but you get less. They rinse away residue at lash lounge but it costs more. I was expected to wash this off myself after 24 hours, peel it off or wear the glue a day. read more

Overall I had a good experience. Last minute, the receptionist was able to schedule me for their latest appointment, same day. Lauren completed my sugaring. She was sweet and very informative being that it was my first sugaring. Although I anticipated the process to be less painful than waxing, the results are amazing. My hairs are also more coarse so I think that contributed to the discomfort. Initially, after leaving the appointment I was not impressed. However, by the time I made it home, the slight pain was gone and I was able to fully examine the results. I was absolutely satisfied. My skin was super soft and not irritated at all. I agree that sugaring is less evasive than waxing. I also love that that discomfort did not last as long as waxing usually does. Sugaring is more expensive than waxing. My experience here wasn't great. This was my first time getting waxed aside from my eyebrows, I was very nervous so I purchased the numbing spray with my service. I let the esthetician know that I've never gotten waxed and asked if the spray helped. She said no and did not even use it on me. The sugaring was PAINFUL!! There was not one part of it that didn't hurt, the spreading to the pulling. I hated it. My legs still had some hair on them when I left. On top of that, I was told that results would last 3-4 weeks because my hair was fine. The hair started growing back within a week. NEVER AGAIN! I got waxed with hard wax at another place 2 weeks later and had a much better experience. read more

I only got waxed one time before trying sugaring. And, I believe that sugaring is the better option. The hair grew back thinner, and it just felt like a healthier option for my skin. It's organic, last a good amount of time, and gives a good finished look. I have gotten my underarms and lower legs sugared as well as a Brazilian more than once. Now, the underarms and legs are a breeze. I'm usually on my phone or freely talking. The Brazilian is painful to me, but everyone's tolerance levels are different. Yet, Courtney, who I would recommend, is generally really good about telling you to take a deep breath before she pulls the strip. Together, we get through it! ‍‍ She's really nice and patient! Also, Kelly the owner, is really understandable. After an incident on one visit, I reached out to the manager, and she exceeded my expectations in resolving the issue. The front desk employees are pleasant as well! And last, the place is cute! Suggestions: If I were to give any recommendations, it would be to make sure to keep up the cleanliness that the place is known for having. For instance, mopping and cleaning the bathroom to get debris off the floor or dust off the fixtures would just give that finishing touch from when they first opened! Update: I tried a different esthetician this time for my sugaring - Channing. Channing was really nice overall. I think I may have irritated her a little bit when I asked her to change her method of sugaring. But, we bounced back. I will admit that my hairs were long on my legs and private area for the Brazilian. It had been a while because I had an ingrown hair that was causing me a lot of pain. Aside from the length of my hair, which caused a lot of pain as the sugaring was applied (the sugar was pulling the hair ), I felt that Channing was heavy handed. Compared to other experiences, I just felt more pressure even if the application process. So, I know that part of my pain was attributed to the length of my hair, but I also think that I need someone with a little lighter hand and approach! If you have a high tolerance for pain, then Channing is great! If you need less pressure, maybe try a different esthetician! read more

I am a repeat customer and have used their services for almost two years . Reasons to go : 1. Sugaring is so much better than waxing ! The concept is using an organic substance (sugar ) to extract unwanted body hair . I have far less ingrowns and a smooth look . 2. The decor ! This place makes you feel pretty and 100% feminine . There's a plush , blush and pink theme throughout the shop . 3. Services offered- offers an array of services dedicated to hair removal . They also offer a lash lift services . 4. Technicians- My favorite is Madison ! Check her out ! She's professional, great at what she does and extremely pleasant ! 5. They give personal follow up calls prior to your visit . Reasons that prevent a 5 star review: 1. High employee turnover.. 2. Because of the turnover , each technician has a different technique of extraction- which can lead to ingrowns when the hair is pulled differently 3. Terrible communication about late policy . I have been told 15 minutes and 10 minutes . Because I work up until the time to leave for my appointment, I count on their grace period . Most recently , I was six minutes for an appointment and was told they could not take me because the type of appointment I booked . I would prefer they communicate a no late policy versus communicating a moving target grace period 4. No incentives in place for long term clients . 5. They don't advertise or disclose their specials . You don't know a special is going on until you check out . 6. Retail section stays out of products for purchase . 7. It would be cool if they offered lash extension services similar to what is advertised on the Corporate website. read more

So thankful I found this place.. for someone who is constantly late, it is truly life changing! Not to mention I won't have to wear pants this summer when it's 100 degrees outside bc "I just didn't have time to shave!" I had tried waxing several times but gave up after being burned, ingrowns and walking out looking like a defective chia pet down lower. Everyone here was so kind and took the time to explain each procedure. They were not in a rush and so the second time after seeing Yonna and it being a great experience, I went back for the whole pkg! This place is new to Memphis and I love it. It's so pretty and glamorous. It's located in the perfect part of Memphis. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable. I got my legs done and the young lady was very informative and ensured she took her time to ensure my legs were nicely polished. This was my first time trying sugar scrub and more than likely I'll try but again. I booked online and it was quick and efficient. I love that they give 25% off when they allow newbies to perform work on you. Overall, I'll go back and I do recommend this place. The scrub has the same pain tolerance as wax does in my opinion. Nice atmosphere. Organic products works really good. I had a bikini wax with sugar wax for the first time and no one warns you it hurts just as much going on as it does coming off. I did order the numbing spray but my esthetician said it was a waste of money because it doesn't work, so she didn't give it to me. I had to ask for breaks in between because lord I felt like my who cookie was getting ripped off. I did have hair remaining, so I asked her to use a tweezer to get then which she did but there were spots missed. I would use the sugar wax again because it made my skin feel amazing, way better than hard wax. read more

Very pretty and the center smells amazing. Restrooms were clean which was a plus. Fast service being that I came in as a walk in. I saw Sarah and although she was kind she was not very talkative or informative regarding my actual skin however with the service being as fast a it was it was not a ton of time to talk. My only concern was while she mentioned that sugaring is better than waxing due to broken hairs that can come from waxing I was left with more than a few broken hairs and some hair strands remained as well after looking before leaving the room. I did bring it to her attention as we were checking out (because they leave the room while you get dressed and undressed) but the process of having to get undressed again was a bit much for me. I've been going to this place since they opened last year. I've always had a wonderful experience! Unfortunately my sugaring person is no longer here. Last month I tried someone else and it was terrible. I've been waxing for 5 years and sugaring for a least a year. I'm familiar with the process and it historical has not hurt. This time is was incredibly painful and took almost an hour. It usually takes less than 25 min, if that to do my underarms and Brazilian. I understand the new staff has to learn but i would not advise you go to someone new or in training if you are new to sugaring. Please ask for the most experienced person if you are trying this out for the first time. I miss Yonna and I'm unsure if I will continue to use this establishment. I may go back to waxing because this last visit was horrific. read more

I'm honestly in shock that I'm giving two stars. I heard so many great things about Sugaring NCY and was so excited to get sugared. The place is adorable and the staff is the sweetest. It's meticulously clean! BUT for starters it is extremely painful, which is not why I'm giving two stars, I just want to be honest. :) I got my Brazilian, underarms, and lower legs sugared for an upcoming vacation. My underarms were fine but I had to pluck a lot of black hairs when I got home, my Brazilian was good, but my legs were terrible. It was as if I had shaved two days ago and the hair had grown back! I called the salon and asked about it and after checking with the manager they only offered me half of my money for the leg portion back. Their reason was that my leg hair was not long enough. Here's the thing, it was. ALL over the website it says you don't have to grow your hair out as long as waxing, only between 1/8-1/4th of an inch. I can assure you my leg hair was long enough, HOWEVER, if it wasn't long enough, I should have been told! I would have never let them wax them because the Brazilian was so painful I would have just said don't worry about it. (I do have a low pain tolerance) UPDATE: I've been refunded for the leg portion of my wax. The manager was lovely and very kind. I still will not go back. I just think it's overrated to be honest. It's painful and was not efficiently done. But I am grateful that they refunded that portion of my service. read more

But you shouldnt make customers feel like that. The waxing service was thorough enough, but some hairs were left behind. I was not offered any after care or recommended anything.
