Sorry to read of other's bad experiences here. I have had only very good experiences - from Dr. Atkinson's exams to the glasses I bought. I had one set of glasses that had become scratched and much to my surprise, they replaced the damaged lens without charge. I once had a problem with Transition lenses that they were not centered properly over my eye pupil, and I had to tilt my head to get the distance focus correct. I lived with that work around ok until my next set (new correction) and on the new frames/glasses, the optician worked hard to get them centered properly. No problem after that. I've also stopped in a few times when a lens was coming loose or a frame was coming loose and the optician fixed those problems without charge. read more

She was recommended to me by another patient who loves her as well. I liked the doctor just fine, was told that if there were any problems with the glasses to bring them back and they would take care of it. But when I took my prescription to another optician, after picking them up I could see great at a distance but when I was reading up close and the distance was over about 12 inches from my eyes they were blurry and unusable. I took the glasses to HDVS to see if it was a prescription or an optician mistake and after describing my problem the optician checked the lenses and I was told "you don't understand how bifocals work...". I informed her that I have had bifocals for almost 2 decades and they worked not only up close but at arms length, and she informed me that I had waited too long to address the problem with them. read more

I got an eye exam from HDVS and purchased the glasses from Walmart. There was an issue with the perception. Felt as if I was walking a foot taller and could not look at the ground to get the correct perspective with my glasses on. Caused me to trip and I often had a falling sensation while walking. Went back to get them corrected and I still have the same issues walking. in addition, if I sit at a table, the table appears to be 6" higher in the back than the front. This is not the proper prescription and the issue is unresolved. Spent good money to get the correct perception and I can't wear the glasses due to the perception. read more

While I really like the optometrists here, I had a bad experience with purchasing glasses. I chose my frames, was told I would need to pay half in order for the glasses to be ordered, which was a little over $300. I paid the amount. When I got a call that my glasses were in, I was told I needed to pay the balance of around $520. I was understandably shocked and questioned this amount. I was then told that they thought my insurance would pay more than they did, so the amount owed was higher. I had not been told anything about this when I initially ordered the glasses. They told me I had to buy them as they were made for me and could not be returned. I have since learned that what was done was illegal and I did not have to accept the glasses. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this business and will warn others away from them. read more

Dr Atkinson and her team are very nice, friendly and professional. They always make me feel welcome, are on schedule and will make time for an emergency which I had a few months back. Being a regular patient the Doctor monitored the situation by telephone on a Sunday, and was willing to see me at the office if needed! We recently had a very disappointing experience with High Desert Vision Source who refused to warranty a pair of glasses for my child that broke after only a couple weeks of use. Even though the glasses were clearly defective and should have been covered under the warranty, the optometrist insisted that they were not responsible for the damage and would not replace the glasses. These were $200 Oakley's, made for children. Not only was their customer service extremely poor, but their lack of willingness to stand behind their products was unacceptable. As parents, we rely on our child's glasses to help them see clearly and navigate the world around them. It is unacceptable that a professional optometrist would not take responsibility for faulty products and leave parents with the burden of replacing them. Here's the real kicker on this deal; we contacted Oakley directly, and guess what they did? They sent us a new pair of frames, unfortunately, it was after paying for a second pair at HDVS. I would strongly advise against using HDVS for any vision needs, as their lack of care and concern for their customers is simply unacceptable. There are plenty of other reputable optometrists out there who stand behind their products and provide top-notch customer service, and I would encourage anyone in need of vision care to seek them out instead. 20 years at Costco and have never once had an issue with frames or lenses. Nice folks in Optical, but....would not stand behind their part of the glasses fitting process! Long time Redmond residents (30 years), and long time glasses wearers (way longer than our time in RDM). Rx from our long standing Ophthalmologists in Bend, but opted to purchase our glasses a bit closer to home this time around. Ended up purchasing 4 pairs of glasses between the two of us that included Progressive glasses as well as sunglasses. Dropped over $3500 for the 4 pair. Optical shop folks were very nice to deal with, and helpful in helping us decide on which frames to get, as well as fitting and measuring PDs and Seg Heights. Told them up front that we were happy with how our old glasses were working in regards to fit / measurements / etc. When we got the new glasses back, we had trouble seeing clearly out of 3 of the 4 pairs. Turns out that either the optical folks had miscommunicated the segment heights, or the lenses were built improperly, as the segment heights were too high. In my case, to see clearly down the road, I had to tilt my head up considerably (uncomfortably high). My wife had similar issues. In many decades of purchasing and wearing glasses, we've never had this type of issue before. They agreed to redo the 3 pairs of glasses that we were having issues with. 2 of the 3 redos came back being fixed well enough to be acceptable. The third pair still had issues. The optical folks were able to spread the bridge supports well enough to lower the glasses a considerable amount. This resulted in much better vision...BUT...ended up with the glasses obviously not fitting correctly. The rims hit her cheeks, and the tops of the glasses were way below her eyebrows, and didn't fit correctly. To be clear, the prescriptions for our glasses were correct, but the fitting (how the glasses fit on the face, segment height, etc) were not. At this point, they said that I'd have to pay full price for a second redo (per their internal policy). After some additional discussion internal to High Desert Vision, they agreed to do the second redo for free, but clearly said that if that didn't fix the problem, too bad. I'm still struggling with why any redos would be on the customer if they didn't create the problem (other than it's their internal policy). So, if a customer shows up with a valid R/x for glasses, and through a combination of the optical staff measuring incorrectly, communicating poorly with the lens manufacturer, or the lens is constructed improperly, then somehow it becomes the fault of the customer???? At that point, opted to obtain a refund for the pair of glasses that obviously were made incorrectly, and they were willing to do that. Thought we'd give a local Optical Shop a shot, guess we have our answer. Back to Bend and an Optical Shop that we've had great success in the past, where I'll order the glasses that High Desert Vision Source couldn't get done correctly, as well as the additional pair of sunglasses that I'd mentioned to them that I was going to order when we got things resolved. read more

Incompetent optometrist took two attempts to update my RX and the new glasses are STILL not right. I'm still wearing my old glasses from my previous optometrist. Over $350 down the drain. Then they over billed me and tried to blame it on insurance (my provider confirmed they DID overbill). Crooked and incompetent...I'll make the drive to Bend next time, these guys are the WORST. read more

Total lack of respect, concern and decency by Dr. Atkinson. I asked front desk to bill my new insurance, was told it was hassle and was asked to pay the difference instead. This was on contacts that should have been ordered in the first place, but a totally different brand and RX was ordered instead. If you advocate for yourself, be prepared to be treated horribly, like you are an inconvenience. And don't expect to be treated with any kind of respect from the doctor or staff. HORRIBLE medical practice. Don't go! read more

6/3/2021 What just happened? The receptionist was a bit disrespectful. Tech was great! Optician was condescending (having or showing a feeling of patronizing superiority.) She was less than patient with my lack of eye care lingo. I am in the medical field in redmond, I am not stupid. She just was disrespectful. " I would have to pay for a visit if I wanted my eyes dialated another time because there are other people that can fill those spots." With a who cares about you we are busy tone.! I ask ," I work until 5 are you open then?" reply I have kids to pick up you wouldnt want my kids to wait at school so I could make an appointment with you." Is she from some entitled cultural location and came here to Redmond Oregon to live and work? I loved this place but what happened? Redmond people are nice, warm and helpful. I would give no stars. The doctors are great personable humans. Had a wonderful my experience when dealing with them. The front desk on the other hand didn't resolve conflict due to a communication error on their part. The lady behind was snippy and acted as if i didn't understand what she was saying. As I said nothing was resolved and I hope they work on their communication skills. I have been going here for 20 years, a few issues with prescriptions but nothing they could not send back and fix. Service was all ways great, This last time when I picked up my Glasses I could not see my Computer at all or far away. I called and the Receptionist that answered thee phone suggested I wait a week. I called her back the next day and said I had to come in because there is something wrong and I need to do my Job!! When I arrived the Doctor accused my eyes of changing and would not take care of my glasses, he gave me some reading glasses, and I wore Trifocals! I paid for up front and they never retested me!!!!!!! So now, going else where!!!!!! To bad you did not even care how long I was with your Business read more

Dr. Hudson and most of his staff are wonderful!! There have been a couple of problem Opticians, but I'm not sure who's there now. I haven't gotten new classes since spring of 2013. It's almost time for a checkup, so I guess I will find out! read more

This is without a doubt the worst experience I have ever had with an eye doctor. After two failed attempts with progressive lenses, I asked for my money back. They wouldn't refund my money but said they would change the progressive lenses to bi-focals. These were even worse than the progressives. I have glasses I spent $300 on that I can't even wear. One of the best office visit's I've had in my 70 years The front office staff was very friendly and professional, the doctor was very nice and thorough and Kandis the head optician did an excellent job in helping me to find some very stylish frames. First ever visit was a disaster. I showed up a few minutes late after driving 30 miles to establish care, and was told that I had to be rescheduled. That's fine and all, but the staff was rude, and left me feeling like customers are a hindrance to them. read more

Dr. Hudson is great, but.....Kandis, the optician is snippy and has a BAD attitude. She acts like you're putting her out by asking for help. She needs some more training in customer service. I went in to look at frames 1 month BEFORE my appointment and selected a pair. I told her I would be back in a month, so I wanted her to save them for me. She said there's no reason, because we ALWAYS have those in stock. After my exam, I went to get the frames I selected so they could be sent off with my prescription. "OH....she said, we don't have those, I'll have to order them." So...by her incompetence, I had to wait and additional 7 days for the frames to get there and then another the 2 weeks on top of that to get my badly needed glasses. Ever since that happened, the 2 times I came in for an adjustment, you could see the attitude on her face as soon as she saw me. Sorry honey, IT WAS YOUR FAULT, get over it! I will NEVER go back as long as she's still there. Not worth it! read more
