I went in two weeks ago to purchase new sunglasses and glasses (after browsing selections of frames in 5 other businesses). As I wanted something a little more stylish than I typically wear, it was a long decision process for me. They were with me every step of the way over the course of three visits and they provided a great discount for the pair that was not covered by insurance. AND then they rushed the order so I could get my glasses before my vacation. Big shout out to Katie! Dr. Erin Follen, formerly at CoffmanVision, is now the sole practitioner at Cascade Eye Care. I became her client when I first moved to Bend 7 years ago. I saw her at Cascade this week and will continue there. She is knowledgeable, caring, and just an all around lovely person. When I suddenly saw floaters and flashes of light she saw me the same day, ran all the tests and reassured me I did not have any serious problems. Her explanations are always very easy to understand. The doctor is thorough and tells you what he's doing/checking step by step. I would highly recommend him. The staff is another story. They are friendly but hurried and made me feel like a number. When they are with you they look at the front desk to see who is next in line and then they turn around and help you out and it's done in a hurried manner (2-3 front desk ppl are present most of the time) I don't pay for eye care to receive that kind of service. I like to be fair and honest. So I highly recommend the doctor but I cannot say the same about the staff. read more

But after leaving a review on google I received a call from them not saying sorry for the horrible service but begins to tell me why it's my fault my experience was bad. Appointment on Feb 2, 2021. I was told I would be contacted when my glasses came in. I did call once on about Feb. 16th, and was told they would be in shortly.... My glasses came in on FEB 10!!! ... and a text to so inform me was supposedly sent....to an incorrect cell phone number. No further effort to contact me or to verify contact was made. On Mar 1, I called again to ask when my glasses would be in, only to be informed they were in since 10 Feb! Had I not called, WHEN would they have made an second attempt to contact me?? WHY was there no followup or a "text received" verification. This is sloppy and unprofessional, and I have suffered with no glasses for an additional almost 3 weeks (old glasses taken to reuse the frame). Not acceptable service, having me question also the accuracy of the prescription. read more

I have been a long time patient of Dr. Steckmans.I have always been happy with the physician part of it, but they didn't have very fun glasses to pick from. So for years I would have my eye test there but would look at there inventory of glasses and would end up picking something ok, or going else were. WELL they have either got a new buyer OR something changed because there inventory ROCKS!!!! So many GREAT glasses, its now fun to see what's for next time. My whole family has been coming to see Dr Steckman this office for over two years. All was fine, great service the receptions knew our names, it was nice. That all changed April 2016. We came in for an early visit due to my glasses being misplaced. When we came in, to our surprise there was not one familiar face I recognized besides the optometrist. Odd. But ok I rolled with it. I ask him what happened he said he made "changes". Again, odd. He was so generous he gave me many different contacts to try even though I didn't ask for them as I have been using the same brand of contacts for 15 years. He said the brand I use Acuvue 2 were going to be discontinued. I replied with they've been saying that for 5 years now. After the appointment is when it turned when I went to order my new glasses for myself and my daughter. They said my total was over $300. What?? We are double covered and I never walk out paying more than $100. When I looked at what they were charging me for there were all these upgrades I didn't ask for. They said fees increased, and they added a special coating or something like that. When I asked why she did that she said, "well it's better quality." I don't care, ask me first before you sneakily try to tack on more money to my total bill. There was also some issue with billing my two insurances that she so inconveniently called to figure out, but didn't and I had her call back. After two hours total I walked out, upset, crying, vowing to never go back. I honestly feel they were trying to get the most money out of me. Flash forward a month later I went to Costco to finally get glasses. I call the Dr'a office to have my prescription faxed and they did. The lady at Costco let me know that they take VSP so they could directly bill my TWO insurances! Score! They ran my insurance and low and behold it was DECLINED. So the lady at Costco called the insurance company. They advise her the Dr Steckman, at Cascade Eyecare, not only charged me for a CONTACT FITTING I DIDNT ASK FOR, but CHARGED BOTH MY INSURANCES FOR THEM! WOW. So the insurance wouldn't cover my glasses because they only cover glasses or contacts and he/they charged both my insurances for one exam. Needless to say I paid out of pocket that day, as the insurance company ran an investigation, found I was wrongly charged, and they refunded me the money I spent on my glasses. To top it off today I went to Costco to get contacts and so I called Cascade Eyecare and asked them to fax my prescription to Costco where I always get my contacts, like they have done more than 4 times for me before. The lady Sharon? Shannon? Tells me no problem. Then she calls me to inform me that without a release she can't send them to me. Sounds possibly legit, as she cited HIPPA law. I just thought, what a coincident that you now ask me to sign this waiver, now that I am no longer a patient there, and what you guys have put me through. DO NOT COME HERE. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO A PLACE THAT DOES NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. read more

I have been going to Dr Steckman for 3 years now. His office is very clean and relaxing and Dr Steckman is great! He explains what he is doing and was very knowledgable when I had questions. His staff also helped me pick out glasses and were honest with what might look good on my face. They didn't try to up-sell me on designer frames at all...they just went and began picking frames that they thought would fit my face well. I don't foresee myself changing to anyone besides Dr Steckman. Another perk is they have a Keurig coffee machine in the waiting room. It went great until I tried to get a copy of my eye prescription and then I was told my insurance does not cover that and Cascade asked me to pay $46.00 for a copy of my prescription. What? I went due to ocular abnormalities and vision problems. It turned out my old prescription from my east coast physician was too strong now and we are not yet certain if the issue I am having are due to a brain electrical signal abnormality or the wrong prescription. FYI Cascade: By Law, Federal Law, all patients are entitled to their eye prescription, period, at no charge, after an examination. I will phone later today to discuss with the receptionist who pulled the sneaky on me. This is the first public negative review I have ever left, but my experience here was so upsetting I felt I needed to let other parents with children know. I paid an extra amount of money to get my daughter's pupillary distance (PD) read because we were planning to buy glasses elsewhere due to our insurance, and the tech who was supposed to be helping us was visibly upset we weren't getting frames and treated us incredibly poorly. My daughter sensed she how rude and unkind she was being to us even after just spending over $150 on an exam. When I sent in my prescription I was told the PD seemed off and asked if I could get it rechecked. They sent me an app to check it myself, and I got a different number then her reading. I went in with my daughter again to double check and the tech yelled at me from the other room, while with a patient and others in waiting room,, saying it was my fault and that it was the glasses I chose, not her reading. I asked for someone else to re-check it and the eye doctor helped me. SURE ENOUGH her reading was off by 2mm which was significant, and she looked at me glaringly as we were having it done. It was her mistake completely, and it was one of the WORST customer experiences I have ever had in my life. Instead of saying, sure let's re-check (especially since I had paid extra for a service she didn't do correctly), she yelled at me for coming in again and humiliated me and my daughter, even though it was her mistake. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially with kids. We recently moved to town and I am so shocked at how we were treated here compared to our last eyeglass place.I When we got in the car my daughter told me that the tech actually scared her, and didn't understand why she was so angry and mean to us. It was such an upsetting experience. This tech's attitude and lack of professionalism needs to be addressed immediately. I am still in shock. read more

AVOID THIS EYE CLINIC - They are extremely disorganized and have terrible customer service. After sending me an email that it's time for me to schedule my appointment on December 6th, 2020 I promptly called them to schedule my appointment. Upon calling the office they told me they could not schedule my appointment because their system was "updating" but they would take down my name and number and they would call me back. 24 hours go by and I still had not received a call back from their clinic, so I called them to schedule it again. Upon calling back, they told me that the system was still updating but they would schedule me for 12/18/20 at 3pm. The appointment was then scheduled. On 12/15/20 they called me and sent a text confirming my appointment, and I confirmed it. On 12/17/20 at 4:30 PM they called me telling me they could not find me with my insurance provider, and they asked for very BASIC information such as my full name and date of birth which they ALREADY had. After a 10 minute call they finally found me. The appointment was confirmed for the following day at 3:00 PM. I arrived promptly and 5 minutes before my appointment. I entered the lobby and the front desk lady rudely told me to sanitize my hands with another bottle as the bottle by the door was empty. I complied. She then told me that I needed to wait. After about 10 minutes of waiting she comes out and tells me that I cannot do my appointment today because my insurance doesn't allow it until January 6th. I have been with this eye clinic for 3 years and have used the same insurance company with them. I'm a busy professional and had to change my work schedule to accommodate this. I asked the lady if they could see me and charge me in January and they would not do this. She then proceeds to tell me their system is still updating... A two-week computer update? There is obviously a deeper issue with this office going on. She then tried to get me to pay for the appointment $200 out of pocket, EVEN THOUGH I have insurance and have used it with them a number of different times. I requested the appointment be comped for their mistake and she tried to make a dozen excuses and blame the problem on me. I requested to see the doctor to discuss this issue with him, but I was denied. The staff in this office are the most unprofessional and untrained health care workers I've had the experience of dealing with. I would not place my eye care in the hands of this office if you are looking for an eye clinic. Be sure to read the other negative reviews and take your eye health elsewhere! read more

We moved from Corvallis, OR and had received a recommendation from our optometrist for Dr. Steckman and Cascade Eyecare. Our family made our first appointment and we got an appointment right away. The staff is extremely friendly and made everything easy. Dr. Steckman was very kind, spoke highly of our previous optometrist and took the time to get to know our family. When we were deciding on purchases for glasses they were so patient as we were three at once. The information and help in making decisions was great. I went here on a recommendation from my co-worker, and I was very impressed. The staff and Dr. Steckman are great! They make everything very easy. Dr. Steckman explains everything very well, was very attentive and a great listener. He uses State-o-the-Art equipment. The puff of air test that everybody loves (joking here) is very mild -you hardly feel it at all (he said it's great for kids!) and the liquid stuff to dilate your pupils is also very mild -so you can drive home yourself and not be blinded by light! My previous optometrist retired, so I came across Cascade Eyecare in my search for eye care and new spectacles. Unlike the first place I called, Cascade doesn't leave the insurance billing to me. They handle it all. Cascade has a nice, clean modern office with a decent selection of men's frames. Dr. Steckman was thorough and seemed to enjoy his profession. His staff was honest about what frames looked good and didn't, which was appreciated. (Turns out the more expensive frames look best. Hmmm?) read more

They say "sorry" without any thought as to the meaning of the word ( I feel that it's automatic not heart felt). As a staff member was helping me select glasses her eyes would stray to the front desk to see who was next and then returned to help me but made me feel rushed (she needed to get to the next client). Of course there were 2+ppl on staff but I did not like being made to feel rushed/like another number. I would recommend the doctor but the staff is another story. I just had my first appointment at Cascade Eyecare. The staff was over-the-top friendly and welcoming. They were very professional but also informal and comfortable to be around. Dr. Steckman was warm and welcoming. He offered a number of services and explained each to me. He was also very forth right and honest about which services were unnecessary and even advised against lasek surgery for my particular case. I was very impressed with both Dr. Steckman and his staff. One thing that really made me happy was the fact that they I was handed copies my prescriptions by both Dr. Steckman and the sweet gal who helped me with frames without asking for them. In the past, with other providers, I have encountered bad attitudes and abrasiveness when asking for my prescription without buying contracts or frames. There was no expectations from them or pressure to spend more. They offer a ton of fun and different frames and I had a blast trying on many pairs with no rush or pressure to move forward. They offer price matching on contacts as well. I found an awesome pair of frames that I am I love with!! I can't wait to pick them up. All around a fantastic experience. I have going to Dr. Steckman since I moved here 3 years ago after have an eye doctor for 20 years. My standards were high and Dr. Steckman was great. However I was disappointed with the optician who helped fit my glasses. My prescription is getting stronger which is what it is. I said I wanted to keep my current prescription sunglasses, they fit my face, but I was open to change it if it was a factor. I got them about 10 days later and tried them on and I was not able to see very well, quick movements were delayed and very powerful or something was happening. She recommended I try them for awhile and I did and it never got better. I only wear driving and sports, both important. I made appointment to go back and check but it was Saturday and another lady helped me and showed me a chart that said I should be in more flat of a design not so curved with my more powerful prescription. I said well heck no problem why didn't the optician tell me that, I would have not used my old pair. Here lies the problem why was this not told to me. Because of this I have to select another doctor or maybe just use Dr. Steckman? I did call and we exchanged messages and was told it was my insurance which is why this happened. But it had nothing to do with insurance it was the fit. I wanted them to fix this versus me paying for it. I never said how much to spend we selected the best quality at the time. I am disappointed.
