Cool place for really unique donuts. Wife and I split an iced coffee and two donuts - old port and the s'mores donut. The s'mores was just what you would expect, tasted like a cruller base with marshmallow, chocolate and pieces of graham cracker. It was good but a little too chocolate forward for me. The old port was a similar base with a cake type of crumble on top. This one tasted denser, which I liked. It's a small place with 4 seats inside, and just as many outside. Plan to eat on a bench.
Great experience for a weekend birthday excursion. Expansive donut, sandwich and coffee/tea menu. Super friendly staff and owner. We had an allergy concern and everything was fully explained. Reasonable prices. Relaxed casual atmosphere with great music in the background.
After an extremely disappointing experience at one of the super popular donut spots in Portland, my group actually ran into another group of super disappointed patrons that mentioned they were at Hifi earlier and enjoyed their donuts. Saw this place sold crullers and figured we really needed a win so gave this place a shot. Opted to get two donuts. The salted matcha cruller and the Portland Fog (a take on the London fog). The latter donut was a cake donut, albeit like an old fashioned style one. Was pleasantly surprised with just how MOIST the donuts were. Significantly more than the last place: My only critique was I found the frosting to be a bit much. Almost like it was a hard shell placed on top of the donut versus a nice glaze over it. Still, this was a pretty solid donut shop and I would definitely come here again to try some of their other crullers. The space itself is pretty cool. Has limited seating so would just grab and go. Workers are pretty casual and nice.
Highly recommend visiting this spot. My friends and I went for breakfast and it was so good! Quick, and easy to order. Donuts were good and their sandwiches and coffee were top tier! family friendly vibes and you can sit outside too
Small but mighty, we came in for coffee, breakfast sandwiches, and to try some donuts. We absolutely loved these cruller style donuts! They were all so light and had great flavors. Iced coffee was affordable and good and the breakfast sandwiches were large and tasty, just a bit salty (especially the pork roll one). Food came out fast and there's some indoor and outdoor seating!
The service was superduper fast, which is really nice. However, I wish I came here a little little bit earlier in the day because I didn't realize some of the donuts would be sold out nevertheless, I got a twist and a chocolate sea salt crueler. I would definitely recommend coming here however definitely come here early so you can try all the flavors that would not be sold out later in the day. The place is downtown and super Duper cute part of town and I highly recommend stopping by there when you're exploring downtown.
Fun flavors and they're oh so good! They offer a variety of unique donut flavors including: chocolate orange, boysenberry, apricot and almond cobbler, hibiscus salted chocolate, etc. I ordered the lemon poppyseed and maple crueler. Both were amazing in their own ways! The lemon poppyseed was a fresh old fashioned donut. The lemon glaze is a little tart and it was fantastic! The maple cruller is very fluffy - reminded us of a popover! Definitely unique and yummy. We both agreed we loved the maple frosting on it.
Yeah, this place is the BOMB. If you're questioning it or you're overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options (there were over THIRTY-FIVE to choose from on a Sunday morning!!), get a cruller-style doughnut. You have to. It literally melts in your mouth, it's so good. I don't have any other way to explain it. It's also worth mentioning that I've never been a super floral flavor person, but I was intrigued by the Portland Fog cake doughnut and the (super friendly) staff member cashing us out told me that it was their personal favorite, so I gave it a try, and it was DELICIOUS -- great flavor and honestly not super floral, which is exactly what I was afraid of. Post-COVID, they no longer have tables indoors -- there are a couple of counter seats and minimal outdoor seating, so prepare to grab and go. 10/10, so sad we don't have one of these in Jersey!
Delicious donuts and an even better breakfast sandwich. My sandwich was egg with ricotta and roasted vegetables on Italian bread. It was perfection. Coffee was fantastic. There's some seating and the staff was very patient and inviting.
The donuts were SO FREAKING GOOD. We picked up some for my friend's birthday to share. Three different blueberry types plus a raspberry chocolate. They were all great, but the blueberry with a bunch of sprinkles (I think it was called blueberry crunch or something similar?) was my favorite. I wish I were there for longer because I would have gotten more. Definitely would come back!
Tragically for every donut shop in town, I am more of a fan of Entenmann's uber-processed grocery store donuts than artisan ones--HOWEVER: Hifi Donuts is the place to go if you're a donut lover. I ordered both the nutella and their savory ham/cheese donuts, as well as the lavender lemonade. Surprisingly, the savory donut took the cake, as it was exactly like a ham and cheese pastry--ooey gooey and delicious. Pro tip: get it heated up. The nutella donut was good but not necessarily anything to write home about. The lemonade was fantastic and perfect after a long day at the beach! The staff were very friendly and the space is small but both tidy and cute. Not a ton of indoor seating, but the seating they do have overlooks Congress Square. Definitely a must try!! Can't wait to head back and try new flavors.
Cute little place with lots of delicious donuts and breakfast sandwich option's! Ambiance was great! A warm and welcoming decor. Service was great! Coffee was good as well. I'll be back for certain.
A small cafe in the heart of downtown Newport, they offer a few high top stools for a quick bite but mostly cater to go orders. Donuts were decent, though not as delicious as some others in the area. We ordered the honey twist, hefeweizen twist, Portland fog, peanut butter chocolate, hibiscus salted chocolate, and bacon and cheddar. We felt there was no flavor to the two twists. The Portland fog and peanut butter were the most tasty of the bunch. The hibiscus salted chocolate was more fruity than salty. The bacon and cheddar was delicious, but more like an empanada than a donut. A few in our party also ordered coffee. They said it was good. Service was very quick. If you are in a rush and need a decent coffee and donut, this is a good option.
I have been here multiple times and just went here the other day for a pickup breakfast. I am never disappointed. Staff is always friendly and the service is always very fast. It's a nice little shop in a good location and you're always greeted with a smile when walking in. This time I got the bacon and cheese on a bulky roll and then three selections of donuts. The breakfast sandwich was very good. Everything was good perfectly and they put a good amount of bacon on the sandwich. Also asked for hot sauce to be added which I highly recommend. They have a wide variety of donuts always available and they are always so delicious. When you walk in you'll see how hard it is to choose from all their flavors. Their coffee is pretty decent as well. I just love how fast they are here and I've never been disappointed with the food. Highly recommend trying this place out. I Would say this is my favorite donut shop in Portland. read more
Super friendly folks today! Took the time to explain the types of donuts and flavors so we could narrow it down to six. We got some delicious lattes and my daughter hit them up for a hot chocolate. They only have four metal bar height chairs to sit on, but we did and boy did we enjoy our delicious donuts. Each one was very unique from the yeast, cake and cruller varieties with delicious glazes or toppings to add more flavor and texture. You simply have to stop by and try this place when in town. Their lineup of breakfast Sammie's look spectacular also... and happy to see they offer pork roll as an option - an homage to hometown Philly! read more
Good stuff! I stopped in with a friend for a few post-lunch donuts today: three was plenty to split between two people, and cost around $9 after tax & tip. The interior of the donut shop is stylish and welcoming, and I saw a few bar seats if you want to stay to eat. There were plenty of flavors; we ended up trying the Portland Fog (i.e. lavender + earl grey), maple cruller, and chocolate & sea salt cruller. Service at the counter was quick. The donuts were all tasty! I actually liked the Portland Fog donut texture better than the crullers, which were nice and airy but a bit soggy/limp for me. The Portland Fog was especially delicious -- I love a lavender + earl grey combo -- though I wish it was 10% lighter on the lavender flavor. The chocolate & sea salt flavor combo was also delicious (though you can never go wrong with that flavor pairing). I will flag for those with dietary restrictions that there are unfortunately no vegan or vegetarian donuts here, since they fry all their donuts in lard. Overall, a pleasant experience. I'm looking forward to trying more flavors! read more

We came yesterday at around 3 pm but they had run out of donuts. The lady was so nice and gave us a coupon each for a free donut so we found ourselves venturing there again today. There was a short line around 10 am. I got the blueberry fizz. I couldn't really taste that the donut was potato based. My friend could though. It was moist and I didn't feel that it was super dense. It was definitely a good donut, but it wasn't better than the doughnuts from my favorite NYC spot - the doughnut planet! I tried the hash brown and that was surprisingly delicious! It was hot, thick with cheese and packed with spice! read more
The donuts were okay, but definitely not as good as I had hoped as I read reviews and blurbs on them. Out of all of the ones, our group of 3 tried the best one, in my opinion, is the salted chocolate hibiscus. The other donut flavors were way too sweet and did not have a very discernable taste, even with all of the unique flavors. If I ever get to come back to Maine, the only donut I would come back for is the salted chocolate hibiscus. read more
Last summer I stood in line for an hour at Holey Donut. Not doing that again. So HiFI caught my attention on yelp. Made my must do list. You cannot park right in front of the store as it is on a turn in a city area between two blocks. Very short walk to either street. Good selection of flavors. We went with a half a dozen. Here are the flavors I tried: 1. Crueller- soft and fresh, delicious 2. Matcha- love the idea but the matcha breaks off and literally flies into the air once bitten. Messy and loses the flavor because its flying around! 3. Cheddar bacon- heavy! Just not my style but the guys liked it. 4. Blueberry- not as good a HD Overall the Cannoli donut at HD is the best in the area that I have found so far. I appreciate that I didn't have to stand in line for an hour at HiFI but their employees were not friendly. read more
The place is not big so it has nominal seating capacity, but for a to go order it is perfect. I ordered the special peach latte. It was a bit tangy but was still quite good. The blueberry cruller was delicious light and airy, and the sausage and egg sandwich was outstanding. It was moist and flavorful and didn't need any sauce or other additives. The original glazed cruller was just ok, but everything else was so good it gets 5 stars from me! read more
Got a matcha donut from here. It was fine but I have had higher quality donuts elsewhere. Also, note for vegans: HiFi donuts is unfortunately not vegan. Asked in hopes of getting some donuts for my friends, but apparently, they're fried in animal fat. read more
After being a disappointing donut from a highly recommended donut place in Portland, I was searching for redemption and found it here! And oh the gluttony! Went for the brisket breakfast sandwich on a glazed griddled donut and it was heavenly. Despite loving seafood and eating plenty of it in Maine, I think this was my favorite meal of my trip! read more
I love me a good donut. Honestly Dunkin' usually suffices, but there are plenty of quality donut shoppes (fancy spelling) to give your tastebuds a run for their money. I'd say HiFi Donuts did a formidable job doing just that for my fiancée and I back in early July. This Portland-based donut place isn't anything special in location or interior. It's potentially missable especially if people mention donuts in Portland as they'll direct you to Holy Donut first. For us, HiFi worked well in proximity (and didn't come with a warning of long lines) so we were able to stroll into this trendy-themed donut establishment a few times while in town. Once inside, you'll notice the full menu of options. HiFi goes quite beyond the donut level offering breakfast and lunch choices as well as a variety of coffee styles. Our second trip here did have us indulging in a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich along with some cold brew coffee (both were tasty), but it's really the donuts that brought us back that second time. What's so special about these donuts? Well a fun fact about circular pastries in Portland is that they're made with a recipe that includes potato. Yup, you heard that right. Potato donuts! Okay they're not only made of potato, but the inclusion of this ingredient definitely gives these morsels a little extra denseness and perhaps even weight. For that reason they're a tad smaller/thinner, but HiFi offers up quite the selection of flavors to choose from. With that in mind, my fiancée and I split a couple of donuts on our first visit. This included a key lime pie donut, raspberry chocolate donut, and HiFi's French cruller. At $2.50 a pop we figured it was worth it (and we were right!).The latter of the three we bought was good (this was a suggestion by one of the employees), but because it was a French cruller in style, you could tell it didn't have that potato aspect to it. The other two rocked the appropriate flavors and despite their density, we finished them off with ease. A different consistency than your average donut, but deliciousness nonetheless. It left us wanting more and so we made one more pass by HiFi before leaving Portland on our last day there. This time around we went for a half dozen in hopes to bring some back with us to good ol' Long Island. A few repeats were in that mix (key lime pie and raspberry chocolate), but we also tried the chocolate glaze donut, Mexican hot chocolate donut, strawberry shortcake donut, and the berry patch cruller (hey, it was a good donut even if not potatoey). Each one basically delivered on taste and stood out for what they were aiming for in flavor. Overall, HiFi Donuts is definitely a worthy stop in Portland to try this type of unique style of donut. Yeah, maybe Holy Donut is the one that gets all the hype, but I wouldn't sleep on HiFi. They have a nice selection of flavors and definitely do the potato donut justice. Breakfast and coffee aren't half bad either, though the donuts are the real reason to come. And you never know, you might just love these more than Dunkin' (shh don't tell them). read more
I'm a sucker for doughnuts, and will usually seek out bakeries and such specializing in them. As soon as I discovered HiFi when planning my Portland trip, I made it my intention to try it while I was there. I was actually planning to spend the day outside of the city exploring elsewhere, but not before stopping at HiFi to pick up some carbs and coffee. I had read that the line for HiFi was consistently long, but when I arrived around 9am it wasn't too bad - nobody was waiting outside but as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a line (by the time I left, however, a line had formed outside). It was fine though, because they have such a large selection of doughnuts I needed time to figure out which one I wanted. In addition to said doughnuts, they have a variety of breakfast sandwiches, coffees, and a lunch menu. They had a combo where you can get a doughnut and a nitro cold brew, so I decided on that. After much debate, I went with the berry patch doughnut. As the name suggests, the frosting was berry colored and had the flavor to match. I found it interesting that they used a cruller as the base, but it actually made it quite light while still retaining a good doughnut consistency. Their nitro cold brew was very good - smooth and bold. Even though there was a line, it moved quickly and everyone was super friendly. Overall, HiFi was a great find - I'm only sorry I didn't get to try more of their selections. If I find myself in Portland again I would definitely return for more coffee, doughnuts, and one of those awesome looking breakfast sandwiches. read more
In a region overrun with mass-produced donuts, Hi-Fi is getting donuts done in a completely different way, and doing it very well. If you want a glazed or an old-fashioned to go with your coffee regular, then that's fine, but Hi-Fi gives you so much more. Nestled just off City Center near Monument Square, Hi-Fi offers a little bit of outdoor seating coupled with a robust to-go crowd. Their crullers are borderline sinful, like crispy French toast with flavored goo on top. Yes, goo, because it's not quite frosting and it isn't really icing, it's more goo. And the goo is good, like really good. Cake donuts come in flavors like Mexican Hot Chocolate or Cinnamon Sugar, and the Simpsons donut (you can visualize this) is a winner in any season. The iced chai is a fabulous choice any time of year, but we had a seasonal drink, the Iced Portland Fog, Earl Grey with milk and I *think* a bit of lavender and it was insane! If only I could reproduce this! The coffee was strong and ready to go, amply offered to sidle up to any donut destined for your palate. Pricing is a bit higher than the chains, but Hi-Fi is putting in the work to make donuts artisanal and the experience to match. Well worth the visit! read more
Yum! We stopped by for breakfast one morning, and they not only had plenty of donuts to choose from, but also breakfast sandwiches too. I opted for the churro crueller, which was delectable. My friend got a crueller with chocolate glaze on top and said it was maybe the best donut she's ever had. I also got an iced coffee but it was not very good. I noticed another guy enter the shop with a coffee already in hand, and there are plenty of coffee shops nearby so I would opt to do that next time and just focus on the donuts here. Limited counter seating inside, and some outside in front of the shop too. If you're in the mood for donuts while in Portland, I would recommend. read more

Wow wow wow. The individual who served me could not have been funnier. They helped out when I asked about the overwhelmingly large menu, and honestly made my experience that much better. The space is limited, but the food was truly great. I liked the hash brown more than the white chocolate matcha donut we tried. It was a really really cool spot and I will have to go back! read more

For me the donut fell short on flavor and the cake donut was heavy in texture. I found Holy Donuts tasted somewhat better. The shop was in what appeared a pedestrian area with some shops giving it a cool vibe. The servers were helpful when answering questions, but unfortunately they lost me on flavor. read more
A great cozy shop with lots of food, dessert and beverages options. I got the peri peri chicken sandwich and it was generous! Two meaty chicken patties in my sandwich with a spicy sauce and lettuce. The fries fries were nice and crisp as well. Everything was piping hot but I couldn't wait to devour everything. Staff was super friendly and I was able to enjoy my my lunch at one of the high top tables. read more

Great selection of mouth-watering donuts. Small shop, limited eat-in area. Coffee and espresso drinks. I recommend the French Crullers, hands down the best, IMO. Done properly with egg in the batter. Yum! Like all bakeries, best selection is early. Always friendly service, highly recommended. read more

This is my review for HiFi Donuts in Portland, Maine. So my family bought 1/2 a dozen donuts for $14.00 which is cheaper compared to Holy Donuts (it was a few dollars more). We got 5 different flavors including Cubby Bunny (2x), Chocolate Coconut, Chocolate Donut, S'more Donut and The Simpsons Donut. They were all looked very good. The one I had was the Chocolate Coconut one which was really good it compared equally to the Holy Donut. The service at HiFi was good, but I must say the ambiance was disappointing the people weren't very welcoming or happy. That was my review for HiFi Donuts in Portland, Maine. read more

As a lover of donuts, I'd been wanting to try this shop for a while. I was lucky enough to be in Portland on a Saturday morning, which made finding parking very easy. I would imagine that this is at best challenging on a week day. They have lots of cool options: crullers, glazed, frosted, and even savory donuts with bacon. I chose a chocolate strawberry frosted and a bacon and cheese. They offered to heat up the bacon and cheese donut. Bit of advice, definitely get it heated. There's a $3.50 donut and coffee special, which would probably not be good for my waistline if I lived closer. The store is small yet cozy and the staff was very nice. Good stuff. read more
