You decide.
My wife and I and other couples, dine out, together, often.
Our dining experience at Hideout 125 was to be our first.
10 of us were meeting there for dinner prior to attending a holiday party which was close by..
I tried to call Hideout 125 to make dinner reservations, however, they were closed. i got a recording that stated they are closed until 4:30 pm and to make reservations on line. So, I did, 6 days in advance. The reservations were for 10 people @ 7:00 pm. I received an email confirmation but I also requested a verbal confirmation by phone. A voice message was left on my phone from Hideout 125, confirming my reservation for 10 people @ 7:00 pm, with no additional information or questions..
On the evening of the reservation we, as couples, met at Hideout 125 a few minutes before 7:00 pm. We were informed that our tables were not ready and directed to wait in the bar. The bar was very noisy because it was jam packed, with standing room only Strangers would step on your feet because it was shoulder to shoulder, while you were pushed around.
I couldn't get the attention of a server so I stood at the bar to order my favorite drink. Finally, after waving my arms I managed to get the attention of 1 of three bartenders. I ordered a "Southern Comfort & 7"......the bartender replied, ."No Southern Comfort", so, I ordered a "Seagram s V.O. & 7"............the bartender replied, ."No Seagram's V.O.". Then the young man behind the bar said "I didn't think they made that stuff anymore ?". I forget what I finally ended up with.
Later, I pushed my way through the crowd, a couple of times, to check on our reservations and I was repeatedly informed, "it shouldn't be too much longer".
Finally after 45 minutes I was informed our tables were ready. We were all relieved that finally we could get out of the suffocating, hot, noisy, crowded "Hell Hole" bar and dine. Then we were informed our dinner tables were in the bar!
After a brief discussion with the young, clueless manager (who was young enough to be my grandson), I choose discretion as the better part of valor.
So, we sat, the men wearing suits and tuxedos and the ladies wearing long formal evening gowns. We sat on bar stools jammed around to small bar tables pulled together. Bar tables that were designed for drinks, never designed large enough to accommodate dinner plates and silverware.
But then things got worse.
Ordering dinner was impossible. We couldn't hear the waiter and he couldn't hear us to answer any questions because of the noise. He couldn't get close enough to most of us to hear better because he was blocked by the noisy, pushy, crowd.
Finally we ordered by yelling and holding up the menus and "pointing" at what we wanted.
My wife and I and a couple of others ordered the "Diver Scallops" dinner.
Later, after enough time had passed that we were looking for our dinners to arrive, the waiter returned and informed us "No Diver Scallops" they were out of Scallops.
It would have been prudently, professional if that server had been informed by the kitchen as soon as they were out of scallops.
So, I "pointed" to the filet. I also ordered condiments that never came.
Later still, our dinners finally arrived. (Now however we're going to have to hurry through our dinners in order to be at the Holiday Party on time)
When the dinners were served the servers couldn't get to each guest to serve them their dinner, because of the crowd, so the servers stood at the end of the table, held up a dinner and yelled out what it was and we passed the plates down to the appropriate guest.
I like to put a small pat of butter on my filet, so when the butter melts it adds to the flavor of the steak. So, I put a small pat of butter on my filet when it arrived, however the butter just sat there, the steak wasn't hot/ warm enough to melt butter. When I cut my filet open it wasn't "medium" as I ordered, it was well done, dry and cold.I can't tell you about the other diners dinners, I didn't want to ask.
It was late, I was hungry and we all just wanted to get out of there so I didn't see any reason to say anything to our overloaded waiter
.
Previously when I spoke with the manager regarding the seating issue, HE offered to comp. out a round of drinks for us. I didn't ask the others, but as for my wife and I when the bills came my wife and I were charged for every drink. I paid for every drink and dinner and included a 20% tip for our waiter
..
None of us had coffee and/or dessert, we ran out of time and we wanted to get out of Hideout 125 ASAP.
COMMENT:
Both of my grandfathers owned and operated very successful restaurants in the 50's and 60's into the early 70's.
Their restaurants were successful because both of my grandfathers were mature, professional, knowledgeable, experienced, conscientious "restaurateurs".
