Soooo, I've been camping a lot. Usually attached to canoeing in Southern Missouri. Pretty much every year since I can remember. And there's different types of campgrounds. This is a party camp. For partying. "Locals" run all over the place in golf carts, there's beer by the case 15 minutes drive in any direction, and lights out is loosely enforced if at all. I say "locals" because these are largely Chicagoans who own RV's and 5th wheels and leave them at the campsite all season, visiting every weekend. Or townies who just hang out because they like to party; I didn't ask a lot of questions. The only time it's quiet is between 4am and 8am when everyone is passed out. There was a Grateful Dead cover band at the pavilion the first night we were there, and a DJ spinning the best of blue collar rock the second night (with requisite 4th of July fireworks). The bathrooms were impeccable, for a campsite. The staff was friendly, though definitely moved at "rural speed". The sites themselves were decently kept grass, with easy soil for driving tent spikes. There were plenty of sticks lying about for kindling, and wood for reasonably priced purchase at the office. There was a little bit of broken glass about, but I've seen worse. We tubed for an hour on the Fox River for $5, though the launch and take out were not marked at all. The launch especially was difficult to find, and utilize. Other than that the float was awesome. Overall I had a wonderful time, and so did our group. I'd very much recommend this place, as long as you know what to expect: A Party Atmosphere. read more

I have to admit, I was pretty worried about spending my Memorial day weekend here. Especially since every review I read was horrible. But we were invited by our friend with killer taste in places, so we decided to take him up on his invitation. We go camping all the time, and this was one of the best places I have been too. It's local, inexpensive - where can you find camping for $17.00 a night anymore?! There are plenty of family activities, the sites were nicely shaded with the Fox River running through areas of the campground... and everyone camping or on the staff was extremely friendly and talkative. That being said, this is not a resort or a KOA where you pay big money to spend the night. The bathrooms were nice and kept pretty clean considering the crowd over the weekend... Fishing was great - the guys caught 3 large Catfish over the weekend. We had a great time tubing down the Fox - for only $5.00 an hour you can rent a tube for this reason. And there are trails galore to explore. If you enjoy just a laid back weekend trip and need some quiet...this is your place. read more

This place is terrifying and also filthy. . I honestly thought that a large yard full of rusty old campers was just a junkyard for abandoned trailers until I realized that people were not just camping in them, but apparently LIVING in them. Seriously, I wouldn't let a stray dog take shelter in one of those dangerous looking things. The employees were rude and unhelpful and appeared to be stoned all the time. The other campers and permanent residents partied all night at full volume, with the cops showing up at least twice during the three days we spent here. Seriously, don't bring children here. The "pool' is a mud-filled cesspool and poison ivy is literally everywhere. I am also pretty sure there are people hiding in tents in the woods. Probably from the law. I did not feel safe here at all and we left two days early. read more

Drove through today to check out the campground. I have stayed at many campgrounds but haven't seen one yet in disarray like this one. The grass was not cut, branches everywhere, owners did not keep up their sites, with the exception of about three. It is a shame that the campground is not better taken care of because the property has a lot of potential with the river access. The bathroom had a line if people waiting outside, so maybe not enough bathrooms? Should be some regulations as to the upkeep if people's sites. Very disappointing to say the least. Glad we did not stay there. read more

The people running in charge are friendly and they let you pitch your tent wherever you want, and you can bring Fido too. There were restrooms located around the campground and they were recently renovated and cleaned constantly. This is a good budget campground. Note: I was the only one in my group of 5 that did not leave covered in mosquito bites and poison ivy rash. Wear closed toe shoes, a shirt with a sleeve and pants if you are going to be here when mosquitos are biting. read more

Stayed two weeks here over fourth of July, turned out to be a very wonderful place. ***YOUR SEPTIC WILL BACK UP EVERY 2-3 DAYS GUARENTEED**** That's is the only reason I am on here to put a review is for the simple fact they have wielded little bars across the SEPTIC holes to prevent debris from blowing in when not in use. Seems totally legit but what all it does is block your fecies and toilet paper from going down when in use. So every 2 to 3 days that bar will catch enough tp and fecies to get it nice and plugged like a playdough machine. So unless you are just tent camping or just staying for a day I highly recommend you to go somewhere else. Its no fun unplugging your turd hose every few mornings while trying to camp. Simply take this experience for what it is. : ) read more

The road to get back to site was dangerous and lucky we didn't bottom out our car, hair pin turns. There is rusty farm equipment scattered throughout the entire campground. Most of he RV's are permanent people that live their with long grass and weeds growing around them. There is one looks like it blew up from ? And it still sits their? There is a lot of music late night and fireworks. The swimming area is a mud hole. I felt like I was in the movie " deliverance", everyone looked like crackheads. This is the first campsite I have been to other than my normal campsite in Wisconsin in probably 10 years. I wanted to try something close to take the kids to. This place was ok. It was kind of unorganized. I checked in and paid for a tent site with power/water. I was given a terrible attempt at a map and told to just find what I wanted. I would have hoped they could direct me to a specific site number and tell me how to get there. I was wrong. Nevertheless, we drove around for 20 minutes and finally found a secluded spot. The reason we wanted secluded... I have two small children. This is clearly a party campground. Which is fine for us when we don't have our kids. But I didn't want to listen to partying all night long while trying to get the kids to sleep. Luckily, we didn't hear anything. The campground is fairly trashy... broken down vehicles, tractors, overflowing dumpsters, etc. Our site had several beer bottles laying around and a bag of garbage that no one cleaned up. It appears that there is very little maintenance done by the owners. With that said, it was close by, fairly inexpensive, and we were able to find a site that worked for our family. If I could find a similar secluded site, I would probably return with the kids. I would definitely return without the kids just to go and party with friends. read more

What most people said is pretty accurate. The roads are all deep ruts and there is litter in a lot of the sites due to the lack of caring and cleaning from the staff. The family quite area near our site had people blowing off quarter and half sticks till about midnight. Given the low price and my easy going nature I'd actually be totally fine with this. What bothered me was feeling lied to about the fishing at their sites. They claim they stock their 4 ponds at least once a year and there was a sign at their office stating that unless it was a bullhead or a pan fish that it was catch and release only. One of the ponds was totally covered in moss and was nearly impossible to get a clear spot to cast and fish. The smallest of the ponds was also difficult to get to and was extremely tiny. The 2 larger felt pretty much fished out. We were told they had large and small mouth bass, grass carp, bluegill , cat fish and bull heads. All we caught during daylight hours were 2 very little bass. And at night when we all switched to cat fishing with stink bait after 6 hours we caught only one tiny bullhead. Overall if you are going with only adults who want to party you can have a good time for the price. If you want to take your family there or go there purely to fish and relax. Stay away. read more

Stayed here this past Thursday through last night. First and foremost, this place is a dump. Plain and simple. I have seen junkyards that are kept up better than this hole. In fact, when I was pulling in for the first time, I truly thought it was a junkyard with all the abandoned RVs/trailers and other junk that is scattered throughout the grounds. The roads leading into the campground and around the campground are so full of pot holes that it truly felt as though I was driving on the moon. We were given a spot for our camper in an area behind the general store/office. Basically, it was a field of grass with electric boxes and water hook-ups. There are no clear cut campsites. I had a horrible time backing our camper into a spot while navigating around trees, misplaced picnic tables, and foot-swallowing holes in the ground. Fortunately for my family and I, we just needed a place to park our camper for a few nights while we ran around the Chicago area. We weren't here to "relax". This campground appears to cater to the beer-drinking partying crowd. People that don't care what anything looks like or how loud it is at 3am. If you are a family camping or someone that wants some sort of serenity, I would not come here at all. If you like to drink and party, then this is probably your place. It rained a lot while we stayed here, and after a couple of inches of rain, this place turns into a mud pit. The camp areas flood with water and all those pot holes in the roads fill up with mud and water. This campground could be really nice due to it's location if the people that ran it put some money into fixing it up. But, given it's current condition, it would take lots of money and time to get this place looking good. Hundreds of abandoned junked out RVs would first have to be towed out. Then the roads would need to be paved, and then actual campsites would need to be leveled and created with gravel or something. There aren't even fire rings or anything. Great location, and the staff very friendly, but we won't be staying here again. I will be washing all the mud off my truck and camper tomorrow. read more

I've stayed here twice in the past two years for work. Both times 3-5 months. You will share water hook-ups, you might have a power outage due to the electrical not being the greatest. The water you of course don't want to drink from and I change out my filter every month and clean the water heater. But it's a place to stay for a decent cost. After the first year I grabbed a Yamaha Generator and it came in handy the second year for sure. Only had to use it once. The people are nice, yes some party, but they don't come to your campground. Most locals are friendly in both spots I stayed at. The camp ground is gated and the security is friendly. Louis at the office is very nice and runs the accounting from my understanding. Reason for 4 stars is of course the muddy/bumpy roads through the camp ground that they don't grade often. There are some RVs in spots that are demolished and should be scrapped. Probably with the scrap money they could fix the electrical better. But I've never had a problem staying here and will continue to as long as I work in the greater Chicago area. Short drive to Yorkville & Oswego for food. read more

Look. If you are picky, or if you aren't comfortable around people that may or may not have actual homes and meth habits, this place is not for you or your wife. My family and friends are a little rough around the edges, and don't really like Ranger Rick up our ass every 20 minutes after 1030. We reserve a stretch of sites known as "the bait shop" every year, and it has always been private and quiet. Bring a gun for personal protection and keep it on you. You'll be fine. But I love this place. My wife hates it. I'm from Berwyn, though. She's from St. Charles. read more

I cannot recommend this campground to anyone who is used to places like Jellystone Parks. It is not well maintained, as the electric on either side of us did not work, there was not water at all the full hookups, and there are abandoned trailers scattered throughout. They said it was illegal to bring your own firewood and must buy it from them. I did, and it was wet. The price wasn't bad but it wouldn't burn. When I asked for different wood I was told that was all they had and she offered me 3 free fire starters. She also said if it was that bad she would refund my money and I could buy some at a gas station. (I thought it was illegal?) There were no other problems. I just thought it was not as well maintained as I am used to. read more

Friendly family oriented camp grounds. Feel completely safe letting my 3 kids 7, 9 and 11 walk around. They love to fish and swim in the lake. Also having the pool is great as well. Owner is very friendly. I have met only nice people here. Most of them families coming to get away for the weekend. Would highly recommend this place for a great camping experience. We were able to find a beautiful, quiet & secluded spot for tent camping with water & electric for cheaper than many campsites. Others chose to stay in crowded areas; looks like there would also be room for a large group of couples or families to camp alongside each other. There were more long-term campers than short-term ones on a Sunday night in late spring. The concrete swimming area did not look appealing to me, but the water was clear. Firewood was reasonably priced. Nothing bright or fancy, which I find perfect for a relaxing camping trip! read more

My friends and I decided to spend the holiday weekend here, never been here before but the website seemed well-maintained and the lists of activities was just enough to give us something new to do. The staff in the office when we checked in (Thurs 7/4/13) was extremely friendly and helpful, providing us with all the information we needed including directions to the fireworks. Based on the friendliness of the office staff we were off to a great start for our weekend...until the owner came in to the store. He was rude not only to us but to his staff who had everything under control. I was embarrassed for him and the way he acted, and found it so sad that the staff felt the need to apologize for his rudeness. Perhaps the owner of the campground should stay away and allow his seemingly competent staff to do their jobs!! Other then the owners attitude and rudeness, our stay so far has been wonderful. The kids enjoyed a hay ride (wagon ride since there was no hay, perhaps? But the kids had fun!!), the bathrooms are clean for a campground and well stocked with tissue paper and hand soap, and we are looking forward to enjoying some of the activities planned for Saturday. I'd like to give this place 5 stars since it's just what we were looking for, but it's hard to do when the money we paid to stay for 3 nights is going to someone who treats their staff and customers in such a poor way. I took a ride through the campground based on the 4 reviews that I read here and I must say "YOUR NUTS"! I can understand the paryting one, you would have to be drunk to stay here! I saw a pop up camper that must of been opened for 5 years the canvas was all worn out, campers that had windows left open with dirty drapes, junk piled up around them like it was a junk yard! The pool looked like something in a movie, its marked 8' and it is clearly 3' with patio tile on the floor, there is a slide I can't even see how you could use it without getting hurt it isn't deep enough, its gross, the only thing I could think of is when they opened it it was 8' and through the years garbage piled up in it so they put patio tile on the floor, something out of a horor movie. I would have to say out of at least 100 campers that there had to only be 10 nice ones and 5 decent ones and that is sad. I wouldn't stay here for free. Its a beautiful area it would be nice if they buckled down and made people clean up after themselves, but all I saw was scum! I always say it doesn't cost anything to clean! I had to give it one star to post this I wouldn't give it minus 100 that would be to positive. read more

We too were there with our families this past weekend. We rented a trailer to accommodate an elderly parent that was with us. We were placed with our 5 young children, 2 under 2 right on the main road with cars flying by every few seconds pretty much ALL NiGHT LONG! We heard the techno thump all night long, saw people wandering in and out on foot, then to make for a super enjoyable experience were serenaded by a loud drunk guy screaming obscenities up and down the road. Finally calling security a second time when he was joined by a female screaming on the road right in front of our tents, "help get off of me" this time security showed up, but never once communicated with us an apology. Totally horrible experience, not a family friendly place at all, we won't be back. read more

Camped here 09/13-16 with 12 friends of mine we had 4 water/electric spots for our pop up campers. this was our 10th annual Nascar trip first time to Chicago-land speedway.All i heard on here was bad reviews! but there we not allot of options for camping near Jolet. when i called, the woman on the phone was polite and informative but told me they don't take reservations, but assured me they could accommodate all of us with no problem. so we caravaned up and set out, finding the park was pretty simple big ol sign with an arrow "camping" as we drove in all the roads and open areas were well kept and the mini golf course was trimmed. we were met at the front office by a older gentleman with a security hat that sent us straight to the office/general store. sign in was fill out form with truck description & plate number. u get a tag for the camper & 1 for the truck. gave us multiple options to camp. we picked one out in a nice flat grassy area with proper water and elc hook ups no wires hanging around like one of the other reviews said.yes there is quite a bit of old rusted construction eqpt and ruins but it is really kind of cool to see it breaking down with the landscape my wife would have a blast taking pictures of this stuff. we were next to some permanent campers that came over that night and hung out with us. bathrooms are kept clean and showers were hot . bought fire wood from them at a reasonable rate. bags of ice were only 2 bucks!. couple of us went fishing in the ponds and cough & released about 30 fish & 1 pissed off Turtle! when we came back from the race Sunday around 1:30 am the front gate was locked and a different security man popped out of the guard house and said hello to us as he eye balled our registration pass on my mirror, then let us in and looked the gate behind us. we were invited by the general manager and multiple residents to join their poker run, but we had our own plans. on Monday during break down a tractor with a flat bed came by and collected our trash! i have never seen this at any other park including State parks! The location is great! The staff was very friendly. My brother and I couldn't get our firewood lit because it was a little wet, and when we went back to the office, they gave us a free bottle of lighter fluid, some starter logs, and a bunch of hand-picked dry logs to try. We were annoyed that the first logs were wet, but they definitely gave us great service and helped us get a fire going. read more

one star for this shit hole is way too much dangerous entry and exit on the curve of vanemmon road over a ruff and dangerous R.R. crossing to enter n exit the campground limited visability roll your windows down and really listen for fast moving freight trains poor business ethics here I get settled into a nice big prime corner spot up front and management desides that my average pickup n travel trailer makes a poor statement on that nice lot I was told to move to another spot I did not want take it or leave it they wanted a big class A road queen with a yacht hitched on to occupy that prime space for the season to empress everyone comeing down the main drag poison ivy all over this place don't get caught with any pesticides the envioromental guru says the poison ivy is part of nature and leave it alone well that's fine if you don't have small kids running around playing and don't go into the campstore if you are in a hurry and they are talking with family and friends you don't exist and if you try to interject to get their attention ha ha they will say just a moment and that scenario can go on forever so I just threw my items down in front of them and I walked out and this place is not suited for children the management welcomes people that are transient in nature this place wont get their 5 star good sam club rating read more

What a shithole just went there over the labor day weekend. Full hookup sites are a free for all. Half the electrical hook ups did not work. Sewer hook ups were scatterrd through out. Had to manuver trailer around to all hook ups. Loud music all night. If you like the deliverance this place is for you. Power line snapped and about fried two little kids. Power was down for about three hours. Which was not that big of an issue. Very dirty. read more

My family and I went camping this weekend to this place because it was a last minute trip and everywhere else was already booked. I did not realize that alcohol was allowed. Unfortunately, because most people around us seemed to come to camp ground to drink, I had a horrible night unable to sleep listening to all the drunken people being loud until 2 or 3am. I don't know at what time they finally went quiet. We were in the family area which was supposed to be quiet. I didn't have the phone number to call and report the noise and I find it difficult to believe that no one else did. The point is it was supposed to be quiet after 10:30pm. Does the staff make any rounds to make sure everything is OK? I wouldn't have minded families having fun late, but not drunken loud people including one who was accelerating his motorcycle near my tent. Although this is overall a nice place, it seems to attract the wrong crowd. They also came to mow laws after we had already set up the tent! read more

I want to begin by saying this park had potential. There are a lot of nice trees and the fishing is good. However, this place is less than habitable. The grass is overgrown, looks like they never cut it. It was way too overgrown. The bathrooms were horrendous, they were not properly sanitized and were badly in need of upgrades. The lighting is also bad, which is breeding grounds for all sorts of bacteria. I've been camping since I was 11 years old, and I've never been to a place to horrid. The "pool" is a joke. It's lake water in a concrete hole with tile on the bottom, some of which are missing by the way. People may think "that's nature" however, i don't think red solo cups, beer bottles, cans, and other garbage is very natural. At the dumpster, they had an old mattress and other junk laying around it, and it doesn't stop there. Driving by, you can see a graveyard of old broken picnic tables, and there's an old broken basketball hoop laying on it's side. Some people like this place because they can be loud and act like idiots, the noise doesn't bother me personally. There's no maps, the sites aren't marked, why should I pay for this when I can go in any random woods and get the same thing without all the garbage? read more

My husband stayed here for months because he needed a cheap place to live in his camper while working on the road. It was cheap and STILL a rip off. The ignorants who provide "Campground clean up and mowing" destroyed a brand new outdoor patio rug because they were too lazy to either move the rug or leave a note asking the rug to be moved because they were mowing. I guess that it didn't really matter- it's not like we would have kept the rug after every single feral cat in the campgrounds used the yard as a litter box. I'm guessing there are close to 100 cats. These are cats that provide more than just fecal matter and aroma though- they also scratched the paint on both our vehicles and left tracks on every surface, tore open garbage and made sure to spread it around our "yard". The intoxicants who provide "campground clean up"- they translate that loosely - as they drive around on a hay rack, drinking, on garbage pick-up day and leave the cat-strewn trash behind. The power surges and electrical issues caused our neighbor to contact an electrician who took one look at the box and cringed. He was surprised they even had power and hadn't experienced an electrical fire. We would come home almost daily to the power out. If we were lucky, the only aromatics around the camper were the cats' feces- but usually there was also a strong sewage odor because the sewer lines weren't adequate for everyone using them. There were at least 5 campers hooked up to ONE hydrant for water which provided no water pressure. At least the management was unpleasant. That gave us something to look forward to at the end of a long day after having been without water for 2 full days asking when we might have water again...to be yelled and told to be patient, really made this delightful campgrounds a NO star.
