He made it to the top...but when will he come down
    Michelle B.

We have been frequenting Hi-tide for years with friends and family. It has become our end of the summer/last vacation spots. It has also been our little's choice of where to celebrate his birthday for the 4 years. We have hosted multiple birthday parties here, & helped our niece & brother from another experience camping for the first time together. This year will be 3 years of them camping with us; so glad we started a tradition like this. I love being able to wake up with the sun, cook breakfast over a camp fire & camp stove & let the kids just be kids. The water slide & other equipment make them knock out at a reasonable hour. I cannot say enough about how fantastic the staff is here. Prices are reasonable, the bathrooms & showers are well kept, they always have things going on if you get bored & need something to do. Looking forward to this year's trip(s)

I've been here a few times over the years. It's a great campground and a little pricey. There is a lot to do here...especially for the kids. I just have a hard time going back to places that nickel and dime you throughout your stay. There's a point where it gets to be too much.

8 Person tent set up on primitive site.

It seems that in todays day and age, the only time people come on yelp anymore is to destroy and completely bad mouth businesses that do their job correctly. Unfortunately those people sometime succeed and make people miss out on great experiences. Me and my family just finished out Fourth of July weekend with Hi-Tide Campgrounds and all I can say is this is definitely an amazing spot to take the family. It was my sons first time camping and he was tearing up as we packed up the tent to go back home. We got lucky that there was a last minute cancellation via the 4th of july weekend and they were able to give us their last site available(Mind you the Campgrounds were completely filled up). When we first arrived all staff members including the owner were more than hospitable. We stayed with an 8 person tent on a primitive site (more than enough room) and right next to the playground and creek. Beautiful spot to stargaze and get your fill of the old outdoors. Their firepits are perfect size, not too big not too small. It was really great to have a full campground filled with people and everyone respected one another. Unfortunately, our first two days were a bit more on the cold side, so we could not enjoy the pool or the lake as much as we wanted to, irregardless they were both clean and well taken care of. Shower rooms were what you expected a shower room to be (i personally like the added touches of positive quotes around the rest rooms). It was a quarter for about 10 minutes. (Way more than enough time to wash up). I like that the owner was very hands on with whats going on in his campgrounds. He wants everyone to have a good time and expects everyone to respect one another and his grounds. I appreciate camp grounds that make rounds at quiet time to make sure everyone is following suit. Theres so much for the kids to do...my son didnt even manage to get to most of the amenities because he met so many new friends to play with on the grounds. Highly recommend to other families looking for a great spot to take the kids. We will definitely be back in the future. Thanks again Hi-Tide!

    Primitive site on creek

Great place for 1st time campers. Definitely geared toward small children and teenagers. The campsites are small. The sites along the creek are more private than the others but you neighbors are still very close. The pool was clean and surprisingly not too crowded, especially for a hot and sunny Saturday. Definitely not a place to visit if you are looking for peace and quiet. Chis is a pretty cool dude. He gave us free corn.

Pros: Clean, organized, lot's of activities for kids, Chris the owner will make his rounds to ensure people have what they need and nobody is acting like an @ss. Cons: Can't pick your sight when you book, some of the staff (teenage girls) could use some customer service training. Summary: Overall great time, will go back for sure!

People were so rude and charged more than $11 for two ice cream sandwiches! They also did not have a variety of floats to go on.

We've not only lost power for long periods of time that resulted in a $300 generator fuel expense on our part, but can not get a true electric bill or meter reading report upon request. We have requested a meter reading report after being "told" our latest bill equaled the previous month bill (yet we were off property for 3 weeks with our motor home ). I refused to pay the bill until I had documentation. We learned meter readings are not done the first day of the month, but whenever he got around to do it. My husband was informed if I call the owners we would be evicted. We received a notification an hour after the threat was made even though NO phone call was made (I guess I was hopeful that the manager would be forthright with dates, meter readings and bills). I was willing to pay what we owe upon documentation. The day after I got the written eviction notice, I called the phone number and got an automated service that gave 4 options. 1) make reservations 2)speak to property manager 3) directory by name. I tried 3 different names being told each was invalid. I did leave a voicemail, option 4, but no return call was made to us. As I researched our rights, we have none on a campground. The campground can evict on any reason they choose. So we are leaving because I wanted documentation of electric usage! Friends, this is NOT how you run a business or campground. A grounds/maintenance person is not an administrator. What owner doesn't Audit the books and employees? I don't think a hands off approach by owners is good business. PERIOD.

The restrooms behind the store are great. The water has no unpleasant smells or taste. The grass is well maintained. We had a heavy rain while camping here, and most sites seem to dry up pretty quickly. There were only a few sites that held water for the day. Easy, quick access to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. The roads through the park are well maintained and were designed to be wide enough for large rigs to turn. I've been to sites that have narrow roads and it's a pain; not here. Mature trees in most sites proved adequate shade. The tent sites here are awesome. I would definitely recommend tent camping here. The playground is cool. I seemed to attract a lot of children for sandbox fun. Con (1): Don't book A2, A3, or A4 if you plan to sit outside much. The interstate noise at those sites is overbearing. Your views will be construction trash, storage building, and apartment parking lot. It almost feels like those sites are not in the campground and the road/trees work like a megaphone (amplifies the road noise). They are perfect for RVs passing through and staying one night.

We camp a lot and were looking for a winter adventure over break. Bullfrog was 45 minutes away and definitely did not disappoint. First of all, the area is gorgeous. I have never been to Willow Springs and was amazed by the landscape. Hills, woods, lakes, the Des Plaines River, huge Cook County Forest Preserve areas, with ample shopping and restaurants nearby of needed make this an ideal camping destination. The campground has a welcome station with after hours gated access. We were the only campers in the cabins and our first night there were a couple other groups using tents. It was amazing basically having this place to ourselves for about $100 a night. The cabin is accessible for those with special needs so it has a roll in shower and ADA accessible routes and features, for those seeking those amenities. It had 4 bunk beds in the main sleeping area, a separate bedroom with two beds, and the aforementioned bathroom. There is a wall unit for AC and heat in both sleeping areas so our comfort was at peak level. Those babies put out the heat and fast! This was especially great after we took an 8 mile hike which included a trip to the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center. The cabin and surroundings were immaculate. There are also a couple heated bath houses, dining pavilions, and docks for fishing or enjoying the beautiful views. In addition to the large cabins they also offer smaller ones without heat for warmer trips. Boat rentals are available when warmer out, as well. I saw canoes and other manual craft behind a fence by the welcome station. Inside the station they sold ice cream bars and much needed firewood bundles for $5. I would guess in the summer they offer more treats. The cabin featured a large fire pit with a swing out cooking grate, which was much appreciated. We cooked many a thing on it! A picnic table is also provided at each cabin. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place for your next camping and hiking adventure. We look forward to returning this summer!

Nice group of full time rvers. Management is trying to put together weekly events for everyone enjoyment. Proximity to Chicago and the Fox River access is great. The bad: dusty roads, failed electrical and water mutliple times. Sewage system really bad, we went three days without being to dump because system was overwhelmed and over flowing and the only employee could so anything was at another campground. Very little maintenance activity on bathrooms, dumpsters (always overflowing after weekend, just need one extra dump on Saturday) or common areas. The Ugly: The deal is this, rules are published and agreed to but there is zero enforcement activities by the management. Come Friday night the seasonal weekenders show up and it gets really crazy. Golf carts speeding, some music blaring, around well into the night (at times 2:30 in the morning) being driven by not only adults, some intoxicated, but also by underage drivers (same ones over and over). The common areas as well as pool and hot tub are overrun by adults, drinking, smoking and swearing. In fact passing out jello shots and some drunk guy in the hot tub talking about how big his privates are. Not a safe or desirable place for children. More then once, high schoolers making out in the pool, children in the pool area unsupervised, and constant food in the pool area. It basically is a party place on the weekend. Can no longer recommend as suitable place to camp.

At one point it rained pretty heavily and as soon as it stopped, they came out to offer us all towels. the couple have a vast knowledge of the area and spent a good while talking with us about the things we could do 'off the beaten path'. Did I mention that this campground is at the entrance to Matthiessen State Park and only a mile south of Starved Rock!! Perfect placement. Also, you don't have to worry about the alcohol bans in the state parks if you stay here. The campsite was dog friendly provided the pups stay on leash. The only thing I could say that may put you off would be that there is no shower facility! This didn't bother us, we are experienced campers and had no issue showering under a hose. there are a couple of hoses around so you can access running water. Oh, anther thing! The cleanest camping porta johns I have ever used. They smelled clean and were also lit at night! OK, I could go on all day. I had a fantastic experience and every one of the 10 people in my group on the Saturday night swore they would return. The service provided by Barbara and Dave is second to none! The back room has the window air conditioner and a wifi box along with another twin over queen bunk on one side and a twin over twin bunk on the other side. Keep the door open to get cold air into the front room in hot months. The cabins ( both two and one room rustic cabins) are located close to the comfort station, recreation center, playground, store and main office. We stayed in cabin 26, which is the 2 room cabin closest to the comfort station. This cabin is handicap accessible with a deck and longer picnic table to accommodate wheelchairs, there is also an aboveground fire pit on a cement pad. Be aware that there is a ton of poison ivy near the fire pit and around a log that would otherwise be enticing to sit on. Cabins do not come with linens or bedding so remember to bring a sheet along with your sleeping bag/ blankets and pillow so you aren't sleeping on plastic! We also recommend bringing a power strip as the outlets are all in use. So if you want to plug in your device you'll need to unplug something else. The curtains are sheer, hang up a towel if you need it darker. Water pump outside. The comfort station was always clean, toilets working, showers hot! The store on site sells some eggs and packaged food, fire wood, merchandise, toys, some emergency supplies for RVers, and staff scooped ice cream. Prices are reasonable. Pool was clean and cold. Refreshing on a hot day. Play equipment looked pretty new! There's a jumping pad, play ground equipment for both the littles and the bigs. There are built in ping pong tables outside the office and by the rec center. There are two sets of permanent bags/ Cornhole games by the playground and Gaga ball court. Volleyball net was set up in the play field. Basketball court is small but functional. Balls and paddles were all available in the rec center. Having stayed previously at a tent camp site, I can say that those sites are equally nice. Water is clear, electric works. If you'd like a good look at the seasonal sites available, take a hayride. If you'd like to get a look at the more rustic tent sites, take a walk or a drive down the road at the entrance to the campground. Maps are available in the office. There are also deluxe cabins on site which offer more amenities, check out the website for more details on these. Overall, we had a great stay.
