I went to the Hidden Cafe today for my best friend's birthday. I read good things about it on Yelp so I was kind of excited to go try it. I got the AHI salad and she ordered the salmon salad. The place was small and kind of funky looking, but there's outdoor seating too. It was too warm to sit outside so we sat in the restaurant. The salads came and my friend was picking through hers and realized that some of the spinach was soggy and mushy. I then checked mine out and surprise-I found a hair from a beard! I knew it was from the cook because I could see him behind the counter. Kind of ruined both of our lunches, so we told the waiter and he didn't charge us for the meal. We left feeling disappointed and kind of sad for what it could have been, but they redeemed themselves by not charging us. The Ahi did taste good though! read more

After wanting to give this place a try for quite some time now, I finally decided to come in and see if the recommendations lived up to the expectations. Upon arrival, it took some time to try and get ahold of the hostess to put down our name on the waiting list. It seemed that the staff was overwhelmed with the amount of guests at the location. It took about 30 minutes to be seated, and then another 30-40 minutes for the food to arrive. I tried the pancakes which tasted mediocre, nothing too special. I could not tell the difference between these pancakes and pancakes at a place like iHop or Denny's honestly. Given the taste, insane wait times, and overcrowding, I don't think I will be back. Great little cafe to visit if you want traditional or Hawaiian inspired food. Another great plus was there wasn't any big crowds or waiting line to get a seat for breakfast... And it was a Saturday morning!! The food was super yummy. I had their Garden Eggs Benedict with a side of fruit... Very yummy!!! My husband had their chicken and waffles. Great food. I've been eating here since they opened and never disappointed. I haven't tried everything YET, but I'm working my way through the menu, slowly. Sometimes I just need comfort pancakes - again.. Or a great Rueben Sandwich. And I must confess.. I buy my Thanksgiving dinners there too. Why not!! Already cooked and ready to eat. I wasn't too happy with the breakfast I ordered here. I did the house-made corned beef hash and poached eggs, with the bacon cheddar grits and buttermilk pancakes. I like that they have the option to choose pancakes instead of toast; it was about the only item I was happy with. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and the perfect amount of sweet. Butter was all that was needed. The hash was too salty, the grits incredibly bland, and my poached eggs had hard yolks! I ordered an iced coffee because their espresso drinks were expensive. It was the worst coffee I've ever had. It tasted like they had been collecting week-old coffee for the iced version. Overall, great ambience and the owner is very kind. I'm willing to try this place again, but I'll be avoiding what I previously ordered. read more

When the Hidden Cafe first opened, I had breakfast here several times and even brought friends and family, because the food was really great. The pancakes were amazing, and so was everything else. Two years later it was a different story. The place looks dilapidated, the pancakes were flat and gummy, and the rest of the meal was nothing to write home about either. I have been around a long time, and there aren't many restaurants that maintain the same level of quality year after year. After a while, the quality and service go downhill, and I end up giving them 2nd and 3rd chances that I end up regretting. Camarillo isn't exactly a gourmet's paradise, so it's always nice to find a place that surprises with quality food. Hidden Cafe is no longer that place. read more

I recently relocated my shop to Camarillo and have discovered this little gem hidden up the hill in Camarillo Springs. I've been eating breakfast there a lot since the move and also enjoy the Wednesday Lunch Special (you have to go to find out what it is). These guys have some things you don't usually see on a menu like Spam and Eggs, being a midwest guy I really appreciate that. Also, the Loco Moco is awesome. The last thing, is the Green Pork Chile, put this stuff on anything, I even bought a special thermos to get about a quart to go for the house over the weekend. It's a family run joint and the service is quick and the food is great, I highly recommend Hidden Cafe. read more

I'm guessing the early reviews about subpar service was because they just opened and the wait staff was still learning or something because our service was great. I received drink refills before I even realize I needed it. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. The place got busy quickly during breakfast hours. Strike 1. 02-24-2018 Been to this place 100 times, had great service every time. My wife and i Went this past weekend and I was a bit disappointed. We showed up and we were told we would be seated "in just a few minutes". We waited about 15min then another couple showed up. They started talking to one of the waitresses there who said she was the owners sister. From their conversation I gathered that they were highschool friends(or somthing like that). They were seated within just a few minutes while my wife and I were still waiting. After a total of about 30min we were seated. I think its wrong when restaurants show favoritism to their customers just because their friends.. we waited much longer than the other couple. I stopped going to the "breakfast cafe" in Camarillo because of the same reason.. I'm not going to change my star rating just because I had 1 bad experience. Wow !! What a hidden gem. I am almost afraid to write and say what a great place this is because more people will find out. Went there today for the first time with Mom and her friend. Our server Tyson could not of been any sweeter. I want him to be our server all the time. We all had omelettes. I had pancakes with mine. All the food was so good. My only complaint was food needed to be a lot hotter. We let Tyson know he offered to take it all back. We said that's ok. It would of tasted even better hotter. He made it right by taking money off the bill. The service is outstanding they were constantly coming around with coffee and making sure we were ok. The salsa was so good.
