Great little cafe to visit if you want traditional or Hawaiian inspired food. Another great plus was there wasn't any big crowds or waiting line to get a seat for breakfast... And it was a Saturday morning!! The food was super yummy. I had their Garden Eggs Benedict with a side of fruit... Very yummy!!! My husband had their chicken and waffles. Strike 1. 02-24-2018 Been to this place 100 times, had great service every time. My wife and i Went this past weekend and I was a bit disappointed. We showed up and we were told we would be seated "in just a few minutes". We waited about 15min then another couple showed up. They started talking to one of the waitresses there who said she was the owners sister. From their conversation I gathered that they were highschool friends(or somthing like that). They were seated within just a few minutes while my wife and I were still waiting. After a total of about 30min we were seated. I think its wrong when restaurants show favoritism to their customers just because their friends.. we waited much longer than the other couple. I stopped going to the "breakfast cafe" in Camarillo because of the same reason.. I'm not going to change my star rating just because I had 1 bad experience. After they've hit 3 strikes, then I'll change it. Original review "This place is fantastic. Wow !! What a hidden gem. I am almost afraid to write and say what a great place this is because more people will find out. Went there today for the first time with Mom and her friend. Our server Tyson could not of been any sweeter. I want him to be our server all the time. We all had omelettes. I had pancakes with mine. All the food was so good. My only complaint was food needed to be a lot hotter. We let Tyson know he offered to take it all back. We said that's ok. It would of tasted even better hotter. He made it right by taking money off the bill. The service is outstanding they were constantly coming around with coffee and making sure we were ok. The salsa was so good. I wasn't too happy with the breakfast I ordered here. I did the house-made corned beef hash and poached eggs, with the bacon cheddar grits and buttermilk pancakes. I like that they have the option to choose pancakes instead of toast; it was about the only item I was happy with. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and the perfect amount of sweet. Butter was all that was needed. The hash was too salty, the grits incredibly bland, and my poached eggs had hard yolks! I ordered an iced coffee because their espresso drinks were expensive. It was the worst coffee I've ever had. It tasted like they had been collecting week-old coffee for the iced version. Overall, great ambience and the owner is very kind. I'm willing to try this place again, but I'll be avoiding what I previously ordered. read more

When the Hidden Cafe first opened, I had breakfast here several times and even brought friends and family, because the food was really great. The pancakes were amazing, and so was everything else. Two years later it was a different story. The place looks dilapidated, the pancakes were flat and gummy, and the rest of the meal was nothing to write home about either. I have been around a long time, and there aren't many restaurants that maintain the same level of quality year after year. After a while, the quality and service go downhill, and I end up giving them 2nd and 3rd chances that I end up regretting. Camarillo isn't exactly a gourmet's paradise, so it's always nice to find a place that surprises with quality food. Hidden Cafe is no longer that place. read more

Very nice place with indoor/outdoor seating. Athletic body builder types take your order with a smile! Some music on speakers but not too loud and no TV screens that I could see (hurray!). Ordered steak and eggs, rib-eye, very tasty, coffee up to my very high standards. Off-ramp and on-ramps to get there a bit tricky off the 101, but a nifty little place for an informal bite at modest prices. read more

DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT FOOD POISONING!!!! My boyfriend and I are from out of town, we came for a wedding. We spotted this breakfast joint on yelp and decided to try it on the day of the wedding. He ordered the chicken fried steak combo (chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, pancakes and hash browns) and I got the sister special (1 egg, 1 sausage patty, fruit and toast). I had some of his chicken fried steak but when we got back to our hotel to get ready for the wedding, I started to feel uneasy. I ended up being able to sleep it off, but it really affected my boyfriend. He was a groomsman too! He barely got through the reception before he was so overcome with sickness that we were forced to leave early. He threw up so many times and got a terrible fever. I've never seen anyone get food poisoning so bad before. It was the only meal we had, so it couldn't have been anything else he ate. It ruined such a beautiful evening for him. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. read more

My husband and I checked out this place because of some recommendations. We both had steak, eggs, and fried rice. The steak was very tender and delicious. The rice was yummy! I'm guessing the early reviews about subpar service was because they just opened and the wait staff was still learning or something because our service was great. I received drink refills before I even realize I needed it. Our waitress was very attentive and nice. The place got busy quickly during breakfast hours. If you are flying down the 101 past Camarillo take the time to discover the Hidden Cafe. They have an island flavor with standard fare. I would have never considered eating fried rice with chilequules but it was great! The pancakes were fluffy and tasty as well. I wish we had time to try everything on the menu. read more

I was driving through from Orange County and stopped here for a quick snack. What a lucky break that was. I had the Vegetable Beef soup with a half sandwich. Roast Beef. The sandwich was very good but the soup was wonderful! Never tasted anything like it. I begged for the recipe without success. Can't blame them. I'll stop in on the way back for sure. The service was excellent and the presentation was another triumph. By the way, it was 5 minutes before 2 and they were closing but since I was so hungry they made an accommodation for me. It is indeed hidden. Finding it can be a challenge, because there are no signs. During this pandemic, they are not open for dining in, but are available for takeaway. We ordered on line and the computer's estimate of 20 minutes was optimistic at best. Let's cut to the chase: the food was tasty, and the portions generous. We enjoyed our meal very much. My concern is that, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, not a single person in the restaurant was wearing a mask or gloves, and they did not ask customers to wear masks, either. On top of this, there was a table with three men sitting clearly eating breakfast together, unmasked, in the restaurant. This despite the sign in their window trumpeting their adherence to social distancing and other measures to maintain safety. A significant portion of Camarillo's population is elderly retired folks - meaning, at-risk demographics. I simply can't believe that a restaurant in Camarillo would ignore the requirements of the County. If a restaurant doesn't maintain really basic public health standards, how can we trust them? read more

From our first cup of coffee to the very last bite of our tasty breakfast we were impressed. Chicken fried steak is very good, service friendly and fast. The menu is large with traditional and unique items to pick from at very fair prices especially when you consider the quality and portions of the food.
