Hunks not as appetizing and not as flavorful. Can be very crowded, so come early or sit out in the tented area. This place has gone downhill. Prices are higher and the portions are Waaaaay smaller. $8.50 for a small Caesar salad that literally had about three leaves and a couple croutons. Nachos had no toppings other than the top portion and tasted like a salt bag had been poured in it. Nicely told the manager and they just laughed and commented yeh "it's small". Won't be back. Went tonight for a quick dinner with my husband. We were seated quickly and service was incredibly fast, especially considering it was quite busy. Our waitress (Audrey or Aubrey, sorry, no nametags so I'm not sure!) was great and very attentive! The manager, (I'm guessing), also stopped to check if our food was good. And it was! We started with side salads. My husband got the caesar and I got the tavern, and for a side it was generous and came with a small croissant roll! My husband wanted a burger, and it just happened to be half off burger night! He enjoyed his mushroom and swiss. I went with an appetizer for my main and got the pow pow shrimp. Highly recommend - just a bit more broccoli than I could eat. But very tasty! I was comfortable temperature wise (and I'm always cold) and the noise level was acceptable considering the crowd. As we waited over 5 minutes for our server, we observed 5 employees standing at the end of the bar. We had no idea our waiter was helping a customer look for a lost credit card. Upon approaching the bar asking about a server, the bartender gave an attitude filled reply. Once the server showed up we were then visited by both managers trying to make nice. At the end of the day, a $70 bill and not so much as a comp for an appetizer or drink. Just a bad experience overall. I'm done with this place. read more

My family of four was promptly greeted and taken to the patio at or request. The server immediately greeted us with a smile and quickly brought our drinks. I love the kids menu here because there are so many choices! Also as a parent, kudos to the bathroom layout! The diaper change station is in a large stall so there is some privacy for your little one also the table opened down so can change from bottom rather than side which is much easier and what parents do at home. Good job on the bathroom!! I went with the small nachos and small house salad. The salad was delicious but I do think in the pricey side for size ($6.49). I didn't love the nachos-lacking flavor and some fresh elements of lettuce or fresh tomatoes. My daughter didn't love her burger but my son liked his quesadilla. The tots were on point and I did like a carrot and ranch as a side option. Server was friendly, fast and helpful!! We received delivery. I tried the new Cubano sandwich. Huge mistake! Watching a movie, lights were dim - I realized this horrible fishy smell and this taste. W/no fish in the sandwich and my hubby ordered wings, started taking apart the sandwich and the pork was grey. My dining mates and I decided for a late night "something" to eat after a show. The restaurant was fairly busy for a Friday night. The host was friendly and seated us. We had very friendly attentive service. Our orders were : chicken wings, sauce on the side, fish tacos, hummus appetizer, coffee and sweet tea. The coffee was very weakly brewed to our taste, the sweet tea also weak in flavor. The hummus was creamy and delicious, pita bread became stiff and hard after standing a bit, chicken wings very tasty , crispy but somewhat salty for some of us, most likely from the rub , the fish tacos came out as shrimp tacos and was very delicious so my dining mate didn't complain. The side of picked onions that came with it very tasty as were the sweet potato fries. Tv's were on overhead but all in all nothing overly noisy. Comfortable clean atmosphere. I have been coming to the Hickory Tavern in Indian Land SC for a long time but will NEVER go back to that locaction ever again!! The food was great, but the waitress was rude and not friendly which is the same waitress we actually had last time but the same bad experience with her. First of all when we got there, they were not busy and only had two tables with two customers at each table. I had to get up from my seat to go find someone to take our drink order and food order as the whole staff seem we're just in a circle talking and laughing etc not even seeing to us bring waited on. Second, our waitress did not dive us any drink refills on top of having a bad attitud. Third, I addressed these concerns with the Manager who did NOTHING but say "I'll talk to the waitress and hope your experience is better next time." This was VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and no genuine empathy at all. If they don't want to work especially with the public , they need to find another job or stay home. DC read more

We started with the homemade potato chips which are awesome and have a great seasoning sprinkled on top. They offer two sizes which is great so you don't end up with more than you need. The small is perfect for two people. We opted for the main dining area and service was on point. Big shout out to our waitress, Keba. Our drinks were never empty, she checked on a few things before we ordered and just stayed consistent our entire meal. We've sat in the bar area before and service wasn't up to par. Usually pretty pleased with my experiences at Hickory Tavern. Tonight started off a little differently. Not crowded for a Saturday evening, we chose open high-top seating. There was a large party next to us. We waited. And waited. And waited. Finally my husband had to approach the hostess station to ask that someone please at least take our order. So another waitress came to the rescue. I ordered a shrimp po boy plain with only roumelade sauce. It arrived with pickles. Augh. I didn't say anything because who knows how long it would have taken to get me a fresh roll, not spoiled by pickle "juice". I abhor pickles. A tad dry and light on sauce, the manager was kind enough to bring me another one. The live music made things a tad better. Will give this location maybe one more try. Another attempt on 8/18/2017... We were not greeted very warmly tonight and we almost left before being seated. We were told that there was about a ten minute wait but high top tables were first come, first served as always. When we approached an empty high-top table, we were escorted back to the front door and told some excuse about "the way the kitchen was set up" that we couldn't sit there. Irritated, we complied. Not less than two minutes later, we were given the same table. Thankfully, our server, Chloe, was more cordial than the hostesses. And our food was good. I had honey bee sting wings with a small tavern salad...my usual. The wings are always cooked to perfection, not "too" hard. And you have to have the tavern salad here with the house dressing. I have mine without tomatoes. The proportions of ingredients is perfect. The jury is still out... not sure I can patron this location too many more times. So my son ordered a tavern Burger instead. I ordered side of Jerk wings (5) & asked for carrots instead of celery and was told carrots are extra. Son's friend ordered a grilled Chicken sandwich. I then ordered a large order of 'Nachos Deluxe" for the table.12 min later the Nachos came...Manager brought them no sight of server. Server shows up and I ask for more tea. Good shows up 15 min later ...still no server and no tea. 5 min later server shows up and I asked about tea. She leaves again... I go to the server station and leak with another server have her fill my glass with ice and she said she will try to find some sweet tea. About 5 min I see the manager and wave her down and ask for some mayo, more jerk sauce, and wait for it....Sweet tea...another server shows up 2 min later and said she sweetened some tea for me (sweetened a pitcher of unsweetened tea) server is still missing in action. Server finally showed up and asked how everything was..we gave up ...waited 20 minutes for her to come back so we could get the check finally waived down the manager again to get the check. Nachos had 5 times the chips than topping (see pictures) I have also attached the pictures of the food...very poor. Team more interested in closing down even though an hour left. We have been here quite a few times since it opened. It seems like some days you go and the service and food is great. Other times...not so much. The last time we went with a larger group (9 of us) and it was blatantly obvious our waitress was not happy to have been stuck with us. She walked away as my husband was trying to place his drink order, she brought the wrong drinks...our orders were messed up. But the worst part was my husbands steak. He asked for a medium rare steak. When it finally came out, it was well done and actually burnt black on the bottom. He isn't one to send meals back but this was definitely not what he wanted to spend money on. They told him they would make him another steak. By this time we are all half way done our meals. My husbands steak comes out and the manager had him cut it in front of her to make sure it was cooked right. He cut into it and it was more of a blue rare. He said it's fine, I will eat it. But as he was putting it to his mouth, he made an awful face. He said I don't know if I should eat this. Next thing, there was this horrendous, putrid smell. The entire table started looking around to see what it might be. Turns out it was the steak. It smelled like old rotten cheese. My husband said I am definitely not eating this. The manager came over and we told her what happened. She took the steak away and came back to apologize to us, as it was definitely off. Our worry was that the first steak also was, so the chef tried to cook it to the point where you would not be able to notice the smell. The manager comped my husbands steak, but nothing else. He ended up not eating unfortunately. I was shocked they made him pay for anything. So was everyone at the table. The group we went out with was 8 adults and 2 children. I can safely say the experience was so bad that none of us will likely go back. Besides the bad steak(s) the majority of us did not get exactly what we ordered and were made to feel like we were a nuisance to the waitress. I gave it two stars because I have had good experience before, but the last couple times have not been good at all. read more
