Very rude young lady at the door when we arrived for lunch. She was fighting with a customer about not wanting to shove 3 tall men, 1 body builder guy and small guy and 2 women in a booth. They asked to be seated at a table upstairs and she told them no she can't put two tables together. Needless to say the customers ended up leaving then she bitched about them for 5 minutes. I am sorry but I wouldn't want shoved into a booth with 6 other people on a hot summer day or a cold day. The young lady at the door should have gotten a manager to handle the situation. She was extremely unprofessional and quite rude. Maybe she should be in the back of the restaurant where she is not seen or heard. I won't be going back. i was on a business lunch and felt quite awkward for my guests to hear her go on and on. Absolutely amazing. There is a reason this place usually has a 45+ minute wait at dinner time. Parking - there is street parking (not a lot), a community lot next door, and a good sized parking garage just a short walk away. You walk in and are immediately greeted at the host station. You can almost always bet there will be a wait. They take your number and text you to confirm you are on the list and text again when your table is ready. Stay close by as you have 5 minutes after the ready text to check in. This is not a big place, thus the wait times. It's quaint. Not too loud. Building must have an interesting history to it. Food: Cauliflower App - a must. It is excellent. Brussels Sprouts - arguably the best I have ever had. Cheesesteak - this is the best cheesesteak in the Charlotte area bar none. Finally got around to bringing my wife here for lunch. As good as ever...the lunch, that is. Really did a good read of the menu. Many things looked great. And we arrived after 12:30, so there was an available table. When we left at 1pm, the lunch crowd dissipated, so lots of room. Wait until after 12:30 for a table, especially if you have a largest group, like 4 or more. I did the Pastrami Reuben ($20) with fries and Ranch Dressing for dipping. I give the sandwich a "4" out of 5 as it was one of the better pastramis I have eaten. Generous portion of meat and, most importantly, very lean. I did not have to pick through the meat to reduce the amount of fat. Very tasty. The coleslaw was mild, must have rinsed it and it worked to complement the meat, not compete with it. There was cheese, a decent amount of it, but it was not detectable, as it was mild and the meat and slaw was the competition of the cheese. Toast was perfect. Just enough to color and lightly sear the bread and the texture was such that you could eat the sandwich one bite at a time, without having the meat fall into the place, being squeezed out be the hard toast. No...perfectly toasted. Fries were too salty. I only at a few sticks after wiping the salt off of them with my napkin. Ranch Dressing helped to mitigate the salt, but not by much. Wife was into her cauliflower thing, so ordered the fried kind ($10) and a bowl of Onion Soup ($10). The cauliflower was so-so, a little bit too mushy. The Onion Soup was amazingly thick, with the vegetables winning over the onions. Not so good. We would not order the cauliflower or onion soup again. Four of us had dinner at The Elk a couple weeks ago and it was a fun experience. Took the grandson for his first seating in a high chair. He did great and the staff treated him and us wonderfully. They had fun talking to him and trying to interest him. He was tired but was a real trooper and did not fuss at all during the meal. The food was very good. The burger was enjoyed and the quesadilla was very good. The cheesesteak is awesome. One of the better I have had. Just the right size, full of "wit" cheeses and the meat was cooked (chopped) perfectly. Looks like a fun bar as well and it was full that evening on New Year's Day. came from Charlotte to try Elk Ave Tavern after seeing a TikTok food review claiming it had one of the "top five cheesesteaks," so I went in with pretty high expectations. Unfortunately, I left feeling very disappointed. I ordered the cheesesteak, which was the main reason for my visit, and it just didn't live up to the hype. The bread was soggy, the meat was very small diced instead of the ribeye-style cuts you'd expect from a good cheesesteak, and the cheese tasted more like Kraft than anything premium. Overall, it was very bland and lacked the flavor I was hoping for. For $18 and about a 20-minute drive, I honestly expected much more. On the positive side, the Brussels sprouts were amazing -- easily the standout item from my visit. They were flavorful and cooked really well. The fries were fine too, but fries are fries and it's hard to mess those up. The staff were very nice and attentive, and the food came out in about 10-15 minutes, which I appreciated. The restaurant itself is a small, quaint place located in downtown Rock Hill across from the public library. I didn't have trouble parking, but it was around 12:30 on a Wednesday and the lot and nearby street parking were both pretty full, so I could see it being tighter during busier times. I also noticed this location used to be called Sweet Tea back around 2020 when they served chicken and waffles, so it was interesting to see how the space has changed. The menu overall isn't very large, and since I mainly came for the cheesesteak and it didn't meet my expectations, I don't see myself returning. In my personal opinion, Cheat's Cheesesteak Parlor still has the best cheesesteak in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. If you like a good pub this place is idyllic! Great atmosphere with lots of holiday decor. The staff are courteous and efficient. I started with french onion soup and the manhattan. Yum! The soup was delicious. They did put crispy onions on top which was different. Not a big fan of that. The soup, however, was not too salty and perfectly baked so the cheese was nicely melted. The manhattan was well balanced and had a holiday twist to it which I liked. My husband got the philly and he loved it. Lots of meat served with homemade chips! I also got the brussels which I thoroughly enjoyed but I will say they were slightly salty. If we find ourselves in this area again, we will definitely be back to this place. read more

We came in during the last hour before closing (which always makes me a little nervous), but everything was still super fresh, came out quickly, and never felt rushed. Ashley was our server and she was amazing -- very attentive, friendly, and gave great recommendations. She really made the experience even better. We started with the pork belly skewers topped with ranch, BBQ, crushed cashews, and pickled red onions -- 10/10. Huge portion and packed with flavor. The balance of sweet, tangy, and crunchy was perfect. The chicken Caesar sandwich was sooo good. It's a massive sandwich with a crispy chicken cutlet topped with Caesar salad, pickled red onions, and chickpeas. Fair warning: it's a little hard to eat because of the size, but completely worth it. The dressing leans more vinegar-forward than creamy, which I personally loved. I'd honestly order it again just as a salad. The truffle parm fries were another 10/10 -- loaded with parmesan and full of flavor. The stout braised beef melt was amazing. Tons of meat and the flavors blended together perfectly. Definitely a standout. The pub chips with added Cajun seasoning were okay -- not bad, just nothing super special compared to everything else. Four of us enjoyed lunch here this afernoon and were all very content with our menu selections. My steak sub was excellent and the Amoroso bun was truly appreciated. These are the guys that owned the food truck, Cibi Cibi. They've had this location for about a year. It's located downtown adjacent to a large public parking lot. The food truck no longer operates at Slow Play Brewing. I got there @ 1130a right when it opened & it was full by the time I left about 40 min later. I had the shrimp quesadillas, it had maybe 2 shrimps, it was packed with jalapeño pepper jelly sauce that had my eyes watering. I got two orders to go as well. One was the hot chicken sando, medium hot. It was my 'go to' when they had the food truck. They also had a special, turkey melt with bacon which I ordered as well. I sat at the bar & had good service from a young man named Hunter. Sadly they don't have a web site so you can't see the menu or order on-line. They weren't bad by any means, but nothing stood out enough to make me want to order a second round or recommend them to friends. Unfortunately, what really brought the experience down was the service at the bar. The bartender seemed disinterested and inattentive, which made the whole atmosphere feel a bit off. We were seated right away for lunch. The place is cute inside, definitely darker tavern feel (per the name). Our server was super personable and friendly, he obviously knew the food & drink menu very well and had suggestions. You can hear everyone's conversations around you, which was a little distracting but whatever, I'm here for the food. We ordered the chicken sandwich with jalapeño slaw & lamb burger with fries. The chicken sandwich is huge and with the sauces, it's an entire napkin per bite situation. Not a problem there. The chicken was incredibly juicy! Loved that. What I didn't love was a good amount of the skin under the crunchy part was still gelatinous. So you're getting juicy chicken, flappy skin and then crispiness on the outside. A bit unappetizing. The lamb burger was meh but honestly I would never order that so I'm blaming the orderer on that one lol. I recommend trying this place still. Based on the popularity and high ratings for this place, we came early for lunch...and there was already a line outside! The place was quite small and quaint, but had a really nice ambiance...an authentic tavern vibe. They really did a great job decorating the place. Nice music overhead, great A/C, and all that as well. The service was great as well...fast and friendly. Unfortunately, the thing that disappointed me right off the bat was how their lunch menu was so skimpy...and they didn't offer the flatbread pizza, THE thing I came for! We had to resort to the few choices on the menu...my husband got the Cheesesteak with Brussels Sprouts, and I got the Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich with Brussels Sprouts. Well...frankly, I just didn't love it. First of all, the buns were cold!! Huh?!? I can't believe they couldn't take a few seconds to at least microwave the cold buns. The Chicken was thick and crispy, but the toppings (lotsa pickles and radish) were totally sloppy and just didn't make for a great-tasting sando...at least for me. Brussels Sprouts were good, but I wished they were crispier. My husband felt the same...the Cheesesteak wasn't anything to write home about. Just like my Chicken sando, it looked totally sloppy and greasy...and underwhelming. Sadly, we just felt that these sloppy-looking dishes didn't match the price points. If the popularity of this place is based on these hand-helds, I'm totally confused. I know that many customers might have been Cibi Cibi fans...but based on what we ate today, we left scratching our heads. If they had the flatbreads, which actually looked quite good (not sloppy like their hand-helds!), this review might have been altogether different. Just didn't get why they couldn't add the flatbreads to their super-skimpy lunch menu. We were told they only serve flatbread pizzas on Fridays? WHY?? Maybe we'll try them at least once more...if only to try the flatbread pizza. As much as I liked the vibe here, it's a shame that the foods managed to disappoint. We have been to Elk on several occasions and every time it's a hit. The food is prepared so well and the cocktails are beyond spectacular. When you are in Rock Hill don't even consider other restaurants! This place is 100% LEGIT! We've been here several times and we've never had a bad meal. Tonight we order the chicken parm dinner which was absolutely amazing and by far then best we've had within 100 miles of Charlotte. We also order braised rib sandwich which again was absolutely incredible. The portions are very generous and all the food is served warm. I don't think we'll ever eat at another restaurant when we are in the area because this place is so good. Be prepared to wait but it's well worth it. To finish off our dinner we had the bourbon apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream, which again was absolutely spot on. I'd expect to pay $100 + for this meal but with drinks it came to just over $60 which is the best bargain in all of SC. read more

Elk Ave is still a hot stop several months after opening - we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. As a confession, I never ate at the Cibi Cibi food truck. However , I can see the reason why people still talk at about it and are cheering for this new restaurant. The food and drinks are excellent and the portions are ginormous "take-out bag" sized. My first impression walking in for lunch was, "boy, is it dark in here". Definitely styled in the tavern spirit - dark wood tables and floors, painted walls with "period" portraits, limited "candle-setting" lighting. I needed my flash for the food photos (a couple didn't come out) and my phone's light to read the menu. My wife has been reviewing the Facebook and Instagram sites for the daily specials. When the house-made pastrami Reuben was highlighted for lunch we had to go. She loved it! (And literally made two additional lunches from it at home.) Our daughter had the Jasmine Rice Bowl with chicken and also raved about her dish. The pickled veggies that came in the bowl were a big hit. The single disappointment was my lamb burger. Sadly, it was overcooked, crumbly and dry. Shame on me, I should've specified its preparation (especially after I heard a couple at another table order theirs well done) and/or returned it. Sidebar - ground lamb should be prepared medium, otherwise you're seriously impacting the flavor and texture of a meat you've paid a premium for. If you're concerned with under preparation I suggest ordering the cheeseburger. We definitely enjoyed our lunch here and plan to return. read more

This was my time here. I came back to get my exact meal again lol. The loaded shrimp quesadilla with the Brussels. The Brussels are crunchy and so good. I also tried the buttermilk chicken sandwich with a Cesar salad. Both were good. We were enticed to try the baked mac and cheese.
