I've grown up in Charlotte my entire life and La Victoria remains one of my all time favorite restaurants. Words cannot describe how delicious the food is. I love white runny queso and the queso here is like a goblet from the heavens it's that good. True Mexican cuisine with options that impress my family and friends everytime they try something new. The service this evening was so fast on a Friday night I was blown away. Chips were replaced without us asking. Multiple staff members attended to our drink needs. The owner goes around the restaurant every time I visit talking to those dining in and it's so sweet it brings a smile to my face. We also see the owner pitching in to get drinks and I think that similarly says a lot. Prices are very affordable and portions are impressive. I live up north for med school and dream of La Victoria when I'm up there. All I can say to all those eating here is wear pants that stretch and leave your jeans at home you'll thank me later. I might be a little harsh of a critic but I want my reviews to have meaning. We were greeted shortly after entering. Once seated on the patio we were promptly served with chips and salsa. We ordered the small queso, #6 and #10 combinations. I honestly could've eaten a large queso and chips for dinner it had an authentic taste and was a great consistency. The beef is very good but a little oily but the rice is super fluffy and flavorful. We decided to get churros and I was severely disappointed. They looked great but were filled with maraschino cherry jelly. I've had churros filled with dulce de leche and chocolate but cherry jelly is a first. Definitely not meant for churros. read more

Wow wow wow! This is absolutely the first Mexican restaurant in North Carolina that I have absolutely loved! Very nice ambiance , large and very comfortable tables / seating newer looking - either re done or it's fairly new I never ordered drinks. I'm such a lightweight. I don't usually take two drinks a year but something told me to order a margarita so I asked him and he said I suggest the margarita with just the slightest dash of orange juice on top and it cuts this citrus or something like that, which didn't make sense to me And I said is it too much orange juicy goes with a tiny dash you won't even know it. Something told me go ahead and try it.!! OMG-I've never been a huge fan of margaritas, but this is the best margarita I've ever had in my life! There's something to that orange juice-I don't get it, but I highly advise trying it!!! Food : Tired of sort of ordering the same old same old I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he recommended the chicken with fresh avocados , etc I looked at the menu and decided yeah that looks like a pretty good option -I hardly ever order soup Well, when they brought it, the bowl was huge and it was steaming fresh with tons of fresh cooked shredded chicken chunks of avocado, fresh and delicious. I mean it blew my mind. And when I took my first bite, I was so so happy I had made the choice of his recommendation It was probably the best soup I've ever had in my life. I'm not kidding. And I'm really picky on chips and salsa and the chips were home-cooked perfect and the salsa was delicious -I find this very rare in North Carolina Originally from Arizona, I have been nothing but disappointed in Mexican food- moving here . This gave me renewed hope . Not that it's authentic, authentic and the way a small local dive would be. And how the food in Mexico is because it's a poor country. I had a place there. I ate there all the time. The food was delicious, but they just didn't have the money to serve food say to this quality. So that said, I believe no one would be disappointed to come and try this restaurant ...and I will be driving the 30 minutes one-way from my home -to here , at least once a month to get more of this delicious menu !! read more

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Charlotte area. Love the food, drinks, and service

Been here a few times and isn't bad food wise but on the service side it is often very hit or miss. I go with the Asada or Chicken torta. I feel it is a good value for the price and are consistently good tasting. The service as I noted is very hit or miss. When it's good, it's really good and when it's not, well it's awful. When it's been bad, I think it's because servers are spread too thin in different sections. I don't think it's the kitchen issue. read more

Came here for dinner while visiting family in Fort Mill. They go here somewhat regularly. Food was decent, and portions generous. Service was excellent by our server, Lucy. Second time in one week to dine here and each visit was great. The waitstaff are pleasant, ready to ensure an enjoyable dining experience by coming by frequently asking if anything else is needed such as drinks or napkins. Our party of eight was well served by Lucy (and Carlos on 1st visit) and the owner, Victor, came by to ask how we were doing. The food is delicious, plentiful, served hot and reasonably priced. Consistency is NOT key here. We live down the road and have been here many times, we order pretty much the same thing every time, and get charged a different amount every single time. Half the time the staff is super welcoming and friendly, half the time the server acts like they would rather doing anything else other than helping you. The food is good, but it's not worth the headache of hoping you get what you ordered and not be charged for things you didn't. Today we got charged a total of $4 worth of items we didn't order / receive. Make sure you're checking your receipts and all the charges. read more

This is the worst Mexican food I have ever had. I had the fish tacos and they had no flavor at all, even a little salt and pepper would have helped tremendously. They also had Iceberg lettuce on them, not a flavor for tacos at all. The margaritas tasted like soap and the waitress barely attended to us. read more

We dined here on a Sunday night at 5pm. We were seated quickly with chips and salsa and asked about our drink order. The chips and salsa were delicious. One spicy and one less spicy was nice to have. We ordered and our food was delivered promptly. I had the Enchiladas Supreme and my hubby had chicken tacos. Both were excellent. This restaurant is located in a strip mall with ample parking. We were seated immediately. I forgot to ask our waitress name but she was great. We were served complimentary chips & salsa. Came in on a whim on a Friday afternoon. My husband had the whole fish and I had a chicken quesadilla and we had a pitcher of margaritas. started off with fresh tortilla chips that were still warm from being made. TAKE OUT ORDERS: Order take out food here off and on and have always experienced good customer service and warm, fresh food. Prices are a bit high for the amount of food you get. For example, their quesadillas are made with one tortilla folded in 1/2, no sides, just condiments (small amounts), which isn't much food. A whole tortilla with another whole tortilla on top, filled with the ingredients in the middle, to create the quesadilla, would be a more appropriate size for the price of this entree. In addition a, they definitely need different tortilla chips and salsa. A basic staple at a Mexican restaurant. First impressions are important. I would highly suggest they offer a mild salsa with more flavor and lighter, crispier tortilla chips, that are well salted. If they made such changes I would give them a higher rating for sure. Nevertheless, they do have some decent dishes and good customer service. I just think they could make a few adjustments to help them stand out more. read more

La Victoria is a lively upbeat Mexican restaurant in the heart of Ballantyne! We stopped by one night for dinner and had a great time. I ordered ACP Texano which is basically ACP with chicken, shrimp and steak. The shrimp were perfectly cooked but there was no queso on the plate at all. My favorite thing about ACP is all melty liquidy queso over the rice and chicken, but not in this case. The cheese was shredded cheese melted over top that just became hard as it sat. I asked for a side of queso to dump on top. The side of queso was tiny and more than $5 which I thought was a little steep for what it was. I enjoyed my margarita and they have a great beer selection as well. This particular night, they were setting up for live music as we were leaving. Bummer! Always consistent service with very friendly staff! I get take away and dine in, and they're always accurate and timely. It's always crowded and usually has fun music playing making for a fun experience with friends. The food is always hot and comes out exactly as ordered. One of the best Mexican restaurants I've experienced in recent memory. Everyone working here is really nice, and the food is especially good. The chips are above average and they're free with your meal, and though the queso is a separate order from the chips, it's so amazing that you're going to order it more times than not. The menu is beautiful design wise, but what's even more beautiful is the food you'll get. Some of the pictures in the menu don't do their respective dishes enough service which is shockingly impressive. Alongside their beauty is their taste, and let me tell you, they are THRIVING in that department. The barbacoa quesadilla I ordered was impeccable, seasoned amazingly with the perfect amount of cheese, altogether making a dish so high quality that I'd expect it to be worth twice as much as its actual price. Everyone I was with had the same consensus with their order, be it nachos or burritos. The only downside that I've found is that it can get loud in there sometimes. Everything else is immaculate. I've been eating at La Victoria nearly once a week since it opened. As much as I hate to see it, I have to admit it has gone downhill in recent months--all while the prices are going up. Quality of meat has fallen off. Portions of sides are smaller. If you order for pickup, the service is all over the place--seems like random chance whether you get the mild or hot salsa you asked for, one small bag of chips--enough for one person--per takeout order, no matter how many meals were ordered. The side "fixin's" that go with fajitas (beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream salad) are barely worth having. I'm looking for other mexican restaurants if anyone has a rec. La Victoria is not worth the price anymore. After several unsatisfactory visits in a row, I'm not going back. read more

A very nice Mexican restaurant with an extensive menu, with vegetarian options,out door seating, moderately priced and, friendly service. We 4 ordered: taco salad with chicken, the large guacamole appetizer, enchaladas and, burritos. Mild and a spicy salsas came with chips on the table. Our food plated nicely, good portions, and hot food came out quickly and hot . .We enjoyed the guacamole. The taco salad ok, I've had better. This one had a lot of sautéed onions and peppers, with little lettuce.. The chicken was tasty and fried taco shell good. All other dishes were tasty and enjoyed but not comparable to another Mexican restaurants some of us liked better. However I would certainly return and try other menu choices. read more

Ambiance is welcoming , vibrant, and lively. Service was quick and helpful. Food was good. Tons of menu options, maybe too many for indecisive people. Complimentary Chips with Hot & Mild salsa were served once seated. We ordered the Cheese Dip with Chorizo for starters. Definitely a taste preference because IMO there was too much chorizo and the sausage had a strong floral seasoning which over took the queso. Entrees were the Steak and Shrimp fajitas and Tacos de Alambre (steak). Both were plentiful and flavorful. To quench the thirst we tried their house Frozen Margaritas which were delicious and good sized. Overall I would recommend La Victoria as a good alternative/replacement to some of the more familiar Mex restaurants in the area. read more

They weren't terrible, just not memorable. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly, the restaurant is clean, and I like the chips and salsa. I'm a huge fan of onions & bell peppers, especially when they're sautéed just right . They slightly girl they tortillas.. love it! We ordered a small serving of queso. It was pretty good. I do wish it was hotter temperature wise but the taste was good. I also wish the chips weren't so hard but that was definitely not a deal breaker for me. They had $5 margaritas today for St. Patrick's Day. I didn't try any but other customers were certainly enjoying them. Good customer service. My fiancé and I have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant on this side of town for quite some time. We didn't have much luck with the search until tonight! La Victoria was everything we've been looking for. The chips and salsa are addictive! I normally stop eating it when the food arri, but I couldn't with these. I kept eating them throughout dinner. They give you two kinds of salsa and they're both really good. I like spicy food so I absolutely loved the chunky spicy salsa. I ordered the chicken fajitas and truly enjoyed every bit of it. Our food came out very fast and hot, which was exciting. The service here is great. Everyone is really friendly and super fast with fulfilling requests. Clearly I could and I could sit here all night and write about my love for this place lol. I can't wait to come back. I want to try everything on the menu! For a classic, fast Mexican place in Ballantyne, this is the one to go to. The homemade salsa is delish and the portions for entrees are massive. My boyfriend and I split the SINGLE SERVING of fajitas de Victoria and were stuffed at the end. If you want leftovers, get it for two!! Hostess, server, and busser were all super friendly and polite as well. This is by no means a super fancy or romantic spot, but also isn't as loud and hectic as some other local spots. Seated on the covered patio beneath the tv which was blasting the news at an unbearable volume. It was cinco de mayo and very busy so we didn't bother asking for a different table. I ordered the chicken chimichanga. As we waited for what seemed like forever for food, the tv was driving us crazy. We couldn't hear each other over the sound of news on the war in the Middle East and were getting more stressed by the minute. We gave up on trying to communicate with each other. Over the course of 45 minutes, I got up and asked 4 different employees to please turn down the tv. I finally had to ask for the manager who eventually came and helped, yet he seemed very confused by the request to turn it down. Everyone on the patio was relieved. When the food finally arrived, we dug in. My food didn't quite look like a chimichanga, as it was unfolded and had fajita veggies, but it did have chicken and was smothered with cheese. It was my first time eating here so I assumed they did chimichangas a bit differently. It was actually pretty good. A few minutes later, a server came up and snatched my plate as I was eating it, and said I received the wrong dish. She traded it out with a sad, flat, poptart-looking chimichanga. I took a bite and realized it was not only gross, but also had ground beef instead of chicken. We hadn't seen our server since she took our order, so I had to flag down another server to tell her about my order issue. She found our server and sent her over. The server didn't seem to believe that I received the wrong order, as she checked her order notes and stared between those and me with a stink face for an uncomfortably long time. She eventually just walked away. I had no idea if she was fixing the issue or not. In the meantime, I asked my husband if he remembered me ordering chicken. He said yes, because that informed his decision to get steak instead of chicken. Also, I always choose chicken over ground beef. Wish I could have kept the original dish. I was already eating it, so why did they take it away? What did they think they were going to do with it? We sat for another 20-30 minutes wondering if we should expect a new chimichanga or not. I didn't touch my plate and my husband had finished his. The server never once checked on us to ask my husband how his food was or to refill our chips, which I would have really appreciated while I waited for my food. We were ready to leave. Had to finally grab a nearby server to find our server, once again. She finally arrived with my correct order. We asked for a box and the check. Hand down one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! We've been coming here for years, and they never disappoint. Quick service, great lunch time combos and very sweet staff. They serve chips and salsa the minute you sit. Salsa comes in two variety - mild and hot. I loved both types. For my pollo chicken tacos, they also have green salsa which was delicious. Chicken fajita was tasty - chicken itself was done nice and juicy. If you like your food with hot sauce, give their house hot sauce a try. Very nice. Great experience overall. Love it. read more
