Hi my name is Laurie, my husband, son, and granddaughter visited the Hickory Inn for dinner tonight 1/30/26 around 6p.m., Our dinner order included a Filet Mignon dinner with fries, a house steak dinner with fettuccini , and the Angel hair pasta dinner with shrimp and garlic bread, as well as breaded mushrooms and cheese balls for appetizers. When the pasta dinner arrived I was surprised because it almost looked like a kids meal, the pasta was broken into small pieces about the size of the noodles you would see in Lipton noodle soup and the shrimp was cut up into small pieces, honestly I have never received a pasta dinner like this ever, it really seemed like a cut up child's meal. I did question the waitress about the dinner prior to ordering it to get her perspective since I had never ordered this at your restaurant before. The dish also lacked the flavor that was described on the menu. The other dinners we ordered were great. The pasta dinner was not worth the $18.95 price tag that I paid this evening. I did not complain or voice concern while at the restaurant because it was busy, I felt it would be rude to say something at that time. Our waitress did an excellent job tonight which we were thankful for.. I would appreciate a refund or credit for the price of the pasta dinner towards my next visit. Had dinner with a few fiends several weeks ago. 1. Surly waitress was not happy that we wanted separate checks 2. Food too a long time to arrive 3. I had a hamburger with chips and water 4. The hamburger was 3 pieces of meat on a stale bun The chips were crumbs from the bottom of the bag 5. I was charged an extra dollar for the plain hamburger than what the menu listed (deluxe cheeseburger was $1 more) 6. I paid with a $20 bill for a $9.13 bill 7. The change I was given was 2 $5 bills (they just kept the $.87 change) I left a whole dollar tip and left! Other than poor service, poorly prepared burger, stale bun, bad chips, incorrect charge and incorrect change, everything was fine. I think they just want to sell pizzas! read more

Many, many years ago, my husband obtained employment in Ohio. Specifically, Springfield, Ohio. We lived there for 10 years, truly living in the Mid-West of America. Great, humble people. Made great friends but eventually my husband was promoted, and we left Ohio, very sad to go. But we have fond memories of our time and friends there, and recently we returned, after 20 years, to attend a friend's funeral. While living there, one of our favorite restaurants was Hickory Inn. While there we returned and it was like stepping into a time warp. It hasn't changed much. Made me very nostalgic. Food was pretty much the same. They have a varied menu, but are best known for their pizza. This is not fine dining, but solid, good food in a semi-dive bar setting. I enjoyed returning. read more

First let me say that our server and other staff were very friendly and welcoming. It's been many years since I've come to Hickory Inn for some pizza and it didn't disappoint. We got a pepperoni, mushroom, and green olive and it was delicious, especially with the whole wheat crust. I came with my siblings and it was quiet enough that we could have conversation, share family pictures, and family stories. I also got a house salad and the ingredients were fresh just not enough of them but then again that left room for more pizza! I grew up here but live on the west coast now and try to visit the Inn whenever I am back for a few days. This is a place you'll either want to try or visit again if it's been a while. The menu here was excessive and was a red flag from the start. A restaurant this small simply cannot maintain a fresh menu of this size. We started off with drinks. Menu says they offer Pepsi products, but I was offered coke. No big deal, however what I was served was most definitely Pepsi. The party with me ordered a Tom Collins. The waitress had never heard of it but said maybe the bar would know what it was. We received the drink, however it had not been mixed. Not a big deal just seemed a bit odd. Next up, appetizer of potato skins. The cheese was sliding off of the skin. The flavor of the cheese was off - almost tasted like American cheese, which would explain the sliding. In this extensive menu, there was nearly every variation of potato to order as a side (including potato salad)...but they do not offer a baked potato. I ordered a cup of potato soup with my meal and it was very disappointing. The soup had a very grainy texture and reminded me more of clam chowder in taste. The waitress offered to replace it, but I declined. I ordered teriyaki chicken breast and mashed potatoes with gravy. The chicken tasted very good (that's what earns them 2 stars instead of 1). The gravy had pieces of what seemed like plastic in it. They reminded me of gelatin sheets that weren't fully dissolved. The party with me ordered a pasta dish that came with various meats on it. The sausage that came with the pasta was served in the shape of a hamburger patty and just laid on the top along with a small meatball in the middle of the thick layer of cheese on top of the pasta and sauce. The dish was mostly a layer of congealed cheese with very little sauce or meat. Unfortunately we both felt extremely ill a few hours later - most certainly from the dinner we had. Thankfully it was not food poisoning but I definitely won't risk it again. It's a shame to see a long standing, local restaurant perform so poorly. read more

I have literally been going to Hickory my entire life. It is by far one of the most consistent restaurants in the Springfield area. A grab place to sit at the bar and have a brew or bring the family and have a meal. The pizza is my favorite menu item. Their whole wheat crust on a pizza is very unique and absolutely delicious, I've never tasted anything else like it. My family has been ordering pepperoni and sour cream pizzas on whole wheat as long as I can remember. The sour cream baked on top of the cheese makes an insanely creamy and tasty texture you won't find on any other pizza! I also highly recommended the cheddar cheese balls as an app. They might not sound like much, but these simple fried balls of cheese are addicting. Their lunch menu is also fantastic. So many delicious options like burritos, nachos, burgers and a plethora of others mains pair with the best options for side dishes you can find at any lunch anywhere. Hickory Inn is an independently owned restaurant that was highly recommended by my friends, so I had to give it a try. I've ate in and had carry out, and enjoyed the food I had! I highly recommend trying their pizza - not only is their whole-wheat crust amazing, but they have quite the selection of toppings and specialty pizzas. Their bacon pizza was excellent. I've tried several of their appetizers and have a mixed opinion - the fried cheese curds and cauliflower were pretty good on one occasion, but on another the fried pickles were pretty mediocre and bland. The breading on the pickles was too thick and not seasoned enough. Their side salad is OK for the price (iceburg lettuce with veggies and 2 grape tomatoes), but the raspberry vinaigrette dressing made it a quite good. Nacho chips were kind of small, but came with a generous amount of cheese. Though the quality of the food was fairly good overall, the portions seemed to be a little on the small side when considering the cost. I am willing to support local, independent businesses, but the prices seemed maybe a tad bit too high. I still have not tried many of their entrees and menu items, this comment is just based on what I've ordered and looking at the menu. The service I received when dining in was amazing! Hickory used to be a great place, and the food is still decent but some of the help is atrocious. Can't be bothered to smile or act courteous, and acts like it is an imposition to seat you if you come in after 7 pm. Used to be our first choice when dining out, but not anymore, only because of the help. We were in recently and overheard the waitress complaining that she wasn't tipped on a large group dinner and can sure understand why. She never smiled or acted friendly, and we still tipped her, but she didn't deserve it. read more

This is a really cool old school haunt that my parents ate at in the 70s and now I bring friends and family to today. The food is excellent, the drinks are strong and it's cozy. The new ownership has only improved on it. The staff are down to earth, like old friends. It is not fancy, there are no white napkins or any of that. They were super busy and everyone was working hard. We were seated immediately and our order was taken quickly. The potato skins were great but you get 4, aka 2 potatoes for $8.99. The steak and Alfredo were delicious. The entree portions were gigantic. The pasta dishes came with a choice of salad or bread which was odd. My overall experience with restaurants in Springfield (Ohio) has not been positive. Chef Salad with their "homemade" blue cheese, appetizer, and Iced tea. This was a few months ago. Everything was bad. Iced Tea was boring and generic (best part of the meal); asked for no lemon but was served with lemon. The Chef Salad was the worse I have ever had. The lettuce had obviously been sitting in the heat all day. A few whole slices of lunch meat were dumped on top along with a few whole slices of processed cheese. The "homemade" blue cheese was odd and seemed to be off. I don't remember what the appetizer was, but I do remember we did not finish it. Attention Hickory Inn: The basics of iceberg lettus for salads; Wash the lettuce during your morning prep and then REFRIGERATE until needed. This was the worse meal I have had in Springfield. My lunch partner had a similar experience. Service was slow and the prices are not an issue given no one should eat at this place. Presentation is as bad as the quality. Atmosphere and dress is casual. Summary: One of the worse restaurants in Springfield. read more

Dined in 12/18. Arrived early as we had heard there can be quite a crowd. We were seated right away. Ordered two beers and water. Both arrived quickly. Had heard the French onion soup was amazing so we tried it. It arrived quickly. It was barely warm. Not much to it. Decent, but not amazing as an associate had described. Tried to order potato skins, but they were out. Ended up ordering the half-rack rib dinner. Partner ordered a cheeseburger and fries. Food arrives @ 20 mins later which was fine. My ribs were less than appealing in appearance and barely warm and very hard to extract from the bones. Partner's burger had a sour taste (old/bad??). It was sent back. Server was fine, but she can't make up for the unappealing and potentially unsafe food we were served. read more

I have a ton of patience with a restaurant run by a private owner. I have worked in many different restaurants and managed several. I know how much work goes into it- so I don't complain or lose my cool over small things. My family went on a road trip the other night to check out the lights at Clifton Mills. We needed to find a spot for dinner in town, and happened upon the Hickory Inn. I was excited because we found what appeared to be an old school family-owned place, and in light of COVID I look to support them. We arrived at the Inn at about 5:45 and Barb settled us in and took our order. We ordered 3 burgers and a chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings. Then, we waited. The onion rings came out ~30-40 minutes after we ordered, and they were nearly burnt. We ate some anyway because at this point we were pretty hungry. Another family near us also were waiting an extended amount of time for their dinner, and they had younger children than ours. Then another 15-20 minutes later, our dinner finally came out. (Barb was kind and apologized multiple times to us while we waited, but we still waited.) I was beyond hungry at this point and started eating my dinner. All of us immediately commented that our food wasn't even warm. (?!) Additionally, all of our burgers were ordered medium, but they were all well done. (If you're going to ask...then cook it right) So we somehow got cold yet overcooked food. That's a real feat of culinary skills. Finally, we were pretty upset and out of patience. Barb inquired about our bill being covered with her boss, and came back to inform us that since we ate parts of our food it would not be taken off the bill. Some was, but not all. My husband asked to speak to the owner. I know it was a Tuesday night and they were on the full side, but nowhere near packed. Other people got their food in a reasonable time and came and went while we sat. The thing here is just being decent to people whose night you pretty much ruined with a terrible meal. The owner only pointed out that we ate the food. Not apologizing for taking over an hour to feed us or for sending out cold food. (Were we supposed to give them another chance to take forever to remake it? We had plans after dinner.) It's super easy. You're the owner. Say you're sorry. We didn't have to come in that night, and we certainly never will again. But if someone takes the time to tell you they had a bad experience in YOUR establishment, at a time when it's so difficult to keep business coming in, if your team has had an off night, just say so. Apologize, take care of the bill. He did NONE of this. On top of all that, my husband peeked into the kitchen to find a full staff of cooks back there- I had thought perhaps they were understaffed that whole time...but NO! WOW. To say this meal was a disaster is an understatement. I never write reviews unless I feel like other people really need to know about a place, good or bad. This was abysmal. The restaurant is quaint and cozy. Needs some updating- the tables are a bit too close together and the bathroom is less than 2ft away from other diners. The menu looks amazing but the food is disappointing. After waiting over an hour for our food, the wait met came and told us that one of the pizza toppings was unavailable. We placed an order for a hamburger and was told it would take 30+ min to cook. The grilled chicken tasted like it was frozen and then microwaved, same with the broccoli. The waiter did bring a burger out in less than 10 min and while it was cooked through it wasn't even hot. Our drinks were also rarely refilled. Overall a unsatisfactory experience! No apology or offer to make it right. read more
