I came here for a TooGoodToGo. What I got was good but I didn't feel it was a lot for the program. I got a container of vegetable soup. The juices I had are delicious. People here were efficient but not particularly warm or cold. No seating that I noticed in this area- just order and go. A vegan favorite from years ago for others I have been acquainted with. I hear I should try their Jamaican patties but I will probably avoid TooGoodToGo from here.

This was a surprising little spot that I am happy we bumped into on our travels. They provide some healthy options and it was perfect for our vegan/vegetarian palates. The Vegan jerk chicken wrap has some spice to it and was so good. The garden salad wrap was delicious also, my only wish is that I had more of that sesame vinaigrette dressing tossed around in there. We grabbed a piece of bread just because and it was soo good. I'm not a banana bread fan but this one... YES. I can eat that with a hot cup of tea any day. Definitely recommend popping in. Just a note, probably better to take to go there is not a lot of seating. Not good for groups looking to sit on, but good for take out for a group.

Their portion size is huge for the price!! Generous with their sauces too. The cashier was super sweet and the place looked clean small but clean.

Salmon platter with brown rice and sautéed veggies and jerk sauce

I ordered Hibiscus via Uber Eats. I wanted something fresh and healthy. I haven't eaten at this place in a while, so it was a perfect choice to get back to loving their food. They give good portions and good flavors. I ordered the super powers smoothie, garden wrap salad and salmon platter with veggies and jerk sauce. I definitely could've bought two of the super power smoothies because it was so refreshing and tasty. The super power smoothie contains, blueberries, strawberries, antioxidants, gogi berries, sea moss and rice milk. I was initially interested in ordering it because it has the added bonus of sea moss. The smoothie is a beautiful dark red or purple color and has a thick consistency. I couldn't wait to drink it from the look alone. I'm definitely thinking about getting another smoothy soon. Maybe one of their green goddess smoothies. The salad is a very simple and delicious. It has fresh crunchy lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, peppers and avocado and a side of sesame vinegarette dressing. It was wrapped in a tortilla and cut in half. The portions was enough for one hungry person. I also ordered the salmon platter option with brown rice, sautéed veggies and jerk sauce. The jerk sauce was a good flavor and little spicy. The brown rice was accompanied with brown beans and the salmon cooked well. I was given a lot of salmon, enough to share a piece with someone else. The meal was so filling I couldn't eat it all. Wish I lived closer get smoothies everyday. I've never actually went into the store. This is my first time ordering via Uber eats and the previous time someone ordered it for me. Will visit soon!

Philadelphia's most iconic food is the cheesesteak. But can this classic meat and cheese sandwich be made.. vegan? Hibiscus Cafe had me convinced with their version of the cheesesteak, made with strips of juicy seitan, sautéed onions/peppers/mushrooms, spicy sauce, and vegan cheese, all on a soft, chewy whole wheat hoagie roll. The seitan had a good amount of spice and peppery flavor, the vegetables added a nice crunch, and the creamy, unctuous, melted cheese brought all the components together. There was plenty more on the menu to try at this friendly, lively, health-conscious Jamaican-run cafe, but the vegan cheesesteak was one memorable experience!

Hands down, my favorite vegan-vegetarian restaurant. They have very healthy foods and they have probably the best vegan cheesesteak I've ever tasted.

I just moved to Philly from Los Angeles and have been looking for some places to eat when I don't feel like cooking or just has great food options. I'm not a health but but I am mindful of what I put into my body. I was looking to try a vegan BOB but when I arrived they were swamped. So I ended up at Hibiscus Cafe. Now at this point I'm starving so I wasn't sure if the food was really just THAT good or if I was THAT hungry. lol Today was my second time trying out this place and I got the same thing. Curry Kale and Chickpea wrap on multigran wrap. I added salmon and STILL BOMB. I've also gotten the Peanut Punch and the Brain Food Smoothie. Both high scores. This place is being saved for sure. They were friendly, it was quick, and the portions a great size for what you pay. I'd post a picture but the food is already gone.

A little vegan paradise with a reggae vibe. I can't wait to go back whenever I can get back to Philly. Got a cheese steak and a guava juice. They have fresh pressed juices too which I didn't get to try. Came for lunch and it was getting really busy around 1pm. My mom, who's not vegan, tried my vegan cheese steak and kept asking to have more!! The roll was fresh and the seitan was amazing... and filled with tons of onions and peppers. Beautiful mural on the walls and plants in the front window. Looked clean for sure. It was a small place. Short drive from University City. Not being from the city, my mom thought it was in a sketchy area. The area was run-down but I didn't feel unsafe.

Raw Wrap, with the forgotten Avocado

I've been wanting to check this spot our for some time now, so after my yoga class I walked down to see what they have. The inside give you a Caribbean feel, they have refrigerators with pre package items, small salads, cakes juices etc. I was greeted and allowed some time to look over the menu for a few minutes. I chose to get the raw wraps, they include kales salad, avocado and tomato. I git mine without the tomatoes. I also got a green goodness smoothie. It took a few minutes for my order to be ready and I was on my way. My smoothie tasted good but I was a little disappointed as it was a watery more of a juice consistency, I prefer a thicker smoothie. My wraps were ok, they did forget my avocado though so the wraps just had a little bit if kale salad in it. Overall the experience was okay, wasn't anything I would travel for as I live on the other side of the city.

As I was walking down Catherine st. In efforts to get to my car. I was intrigued by the rhythmic sounds of reggae music. My curiousity lured me into this wonderful small shop called hibiscus cafe. Hisbiscus cafe is a vegan as well as health conscious store that sells vegan cheesesteaks, samosas, salmon platters and healthy smoothies. Today I decided to try the coconut delight smoothie. The coconut delight smoothie had cashews, moss, coconut milk, avocado, coconut oil and some other healthy ingredients. The wait wasn't too long and my smoothie was very good. It was creamy and it tasted sort of like an oatmeal cookie lol. I actually felt good about drinking it. I felt like I was doing something good for my body! Overall thanks hisbicus cafe for the delicious smoothie. I look forward to returning and trying their other food items such as their salmon platters!

Was in the neighborhood for a visit at UPenn vet and found this great vegan option! It was too hot to leave my pup in the car so I brought her with me! No issues and the food is amazing!!! Yum!

We got seated immediately and they had a variety of Malaysian items on the menu that had a little of everything and ones similar to other Asian cuisine dishes. Roti Canai - The piece of roti was huge, a big portion for 2 people which we enjoyed. The curry was light and a little sweet paired with the thin and chewy roti. Pad Thai - A very classic dish. It was mildly spicy which gave a good kick and it had the classic flavors being sour, sweet, savory and nutty at the same time. The noodles were a nice texture with the crunchier bean sprouts, the tender shrimp and chewy tofu. We also tried the Hainanese Chicken which was a bit different than what we were used to but it was still tender and soft. A solid place for dinner in the Chinatown area if you're wanting to get some different dishes.

The fried tofu in the pad Thai was amazing: crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, very satisfying to eat. I also ordered veggie dumplings, which were nothing special. I was really disappointed to find out that the roti canai has egg in it, so I was sad that I couldn't enjoy the roti canai starter but I should have looked more into it. I also ordered lychee drink which was amazing: sweet, refreshing, had lychee in it which I appreciated. Overall, food was hot and fresh but the spice was too much for me personally! This place seems pretty well established, run well, clean, and service was very attentive: my server reassured me which dishes were vegan which was so amazing and helpful. Would def recommend if you ever want to try Malaysian!

This place was packed, which is always a good sign, and even with that the staff stayed super prompt and professional. The house special was my favorite. I got it with the knife-cut noodles and it was perfect with the broth. The noodles had that slightly uneven, chewy texture that really holds onto the soup. I never thought I'd be the type to talk about "mouthfeel" but here we are. The broth itself was rich and savory with a deep beef flavor, a little bit of oil on top that adds body without feeling too heavy. It's that classic, comforting Chinese beef noodle soup done really well. I added a braised egg, which had great flavor soaked into it, though it was served cold, which threw me off a bit. The mapo tofu with noodles was also really solid. It had that signature spicy, numbing kick from the Sichuan peppercorns, balanced with a savory, slightly salty sauce. The tofu was soft and silky, and mixing it with the noodles made it extra satisfying. It's got some heat but not overwhelming, just enough to keep you going back for another bite. The shrimp stir fry was lighter but still flavorful. The shrimp were cooked well, tender with a slight snap, and the sauce leaned more on the savory side with a mild sweetness. It felt like a nice balance alongside the heavier noodle dishes. Couple practical things: it's cash only, but there's an ATM right by the seating area which makes it easy. And the portions are generous for the price, so it feels like a really good deal. Overall, super satisfying spot. Busy, a little chaotic, but the food absolutely delivers. Definitely a go-to if you're craving hand-pulled noodles.

Carter Afro futurism in Costume Design exhibition (Sinners, Wakanda Forever, etc.). And what do you need on a field trip? Lunch! We looked at the options around us, considered dietary restrictions, and decided Penang was the place for us. And they did not disappoint! Service was great... We were immediately seated. The weather was a bit chilly, and when we requested a new space away from the door, we were accommodated without incident. When I tell you the roti with curry changed my life?? I could eat that everyday and not get tired of it?! It's sooo perfect! Sheesh! We ordered a lot of different dishes, so we kind of shared around the table, leaving nothing to be desired. The green curry seafood in clay pot was delicious! I mean, every variation of curry I tasted was somehow the best curry. Haha The mango fish was sooo good! The fried vegetable dumplings were amazing. I've been here multiple times since moving to Philly, and Penang has always been my go-to spot for…read moreMalaysian food... but honestly, that might be changing. The food quality has noticeably gone downhill over the past few months. To start, my party of four asked for a pot of hot tea. The server told us it would be $5, which is fine--especially since it was freezing outside and the restaurant itself was cold (the heat didn't seem to be on). But near the middle of the meal, I asked for a refill (literally just more hot water), and the server came back with the owner/manager and said it would be another $5. That's ridiculous. The tea is already made--charging another $5 for hot water is wild. The service didn't help either. The server was pretty stoic, and the whole interaction felt awkward, especially while I was trying to order off a QR code menu that had zero descriptions of the dishes. That lack of explanation definitely caused issues. For example, we ordered the Singapore rice noodles expecting something curry-based, but it tasted like a sweet-and-sour ketchup sauce instead. Not good--and totally avoidable if the menu actually explained what the dish was. As for the food, the roti canai was disappointing. The curry was watered down and lacked flavor compared to previous visits, though I'll give credit where it's due--the roti itself was nicely toasted. I don't know what changed, but something clearly did, and it feels like a leadership issue. Overall, this visit was really underwhelming, and I won't be coming back anytime soon unless things seriously turn around here.
