We love Black owned Cafes. Took a stroll down Flatbush not too long ago & decided to pop into a newer cafe on the block. Hibiscus brew serves items from lattes to healthy salads & smoothies. I ordered the hibiscus smoothie, banana bread and avocado chicken salad. The banana bread was very fresh and light. Salad was also great . My favorite part about the Hibiscus smoothie was the sorrel ginger inside. Always gotta keep the Caribbean roots nearby. Did I mention they're also Jamaican owned? I came in here the other day and there was an ingredient missing from the smoothie I ordered (which was completely fine, I was fully prepared to order a different thing) and the owner came up to me and asked me to wait two minutes and RAN OUT to get the ingredient and personally made me the smoothie I have never had such a kind and beautiful experience like that from any business in nyc in my life! I was introduced to Hibiscus Brew after attending an Elite event in June for Caribbean Heritage month. I really liked the vibe of this place so I knew I would have to give this place another try. I came in when I received a text message about their soursop smoothies (I love soursop). The café is cute and cozy with a few tables if you choose to stay. As for the soursop smoothie...it was okay but I definitely didn't love it. Now, what I did love was the chocolate chip cookie sandwich. I think all of their baked goods and treats are vegan and I was definitely skeptical (I've had vegan desserts that looked pretty but tasted like pure sugar and nothing else). When I went for the Elite visit, I paid for the Earl Grey cake which was really good. The cookie sandwich was equally as good. Hibiscus Brew knows a thing or two about vegan desserts. I like their smoothies and desserts--I have yet to try their hot beverages but I will in due time. I recommend this cute shop. read more

Fantastic coffee shop in the neighborhood. The staff is always kind and attentive, and the owner clearly cares about the neighborhood. Opened in COVID and I'm excited to see them thrive. They only have one side of coffee cups, which I wish they had a larger size, and it's a little bit pricier, but the experience/personality of the shop keeps me coming back. There are a limited number of tiny tables if you want to meet someone or work, but not a big enough space to sprawl out for the day. What a delight! I discovered this business on seamless (didn't see a website or I would have ordered directly) and I am so glad I did! I ordered the Powerhouse Bowl with toppings of strawberries, granola and almonds and the open faced avocado toast (avocado, sun dried tomatoes, jalapeños on toasted sourdough) and it was all so fresh and tasty. This is the first cafe in the area I have been able to find good matcha tea lattes! I have tried at least 4 other places in the area and ordered a matcha tea latte that were completely awful. They do it right here and the staff is friendly! I will definitely be returning. read more

I love the iced matcha latte! I like to add turmeric to mine instead of sweetening it with agave, it adds a delicious flavor and tastes great with the matcha. They also have many different milk alternatives to substitute which I really appreciated, I went with oat for the matcha latte! read more

There are some comfy chairs and a table near the front and another table just past the counter so you and a friend can sit and enjoy a refreshment without feeling crowded. There are also two tables just outside. I'm glad this spot is thriving. I went with a colleague pretty early in the morning and it was calm but a lot of folks pulled up and got smoothies or iced coffee and a quick bite. I tried the hibiscus smoothie and it was thick and tasty. It was filling and very satisfying. My only critique is that I wish they didn't use plastic straws and cups. Perhaps if customers opt to dine-in glassware can be used? I don't know, I'm no cafe proprietor. I will just walk with my reusable straw next time. read more

Stood outside in the cold for a few minutes, as I assumed the store was full given that there were already three people inside (it is a small store and you know, COVID). It turns out, it was just the employees congregating in the front (learned this when I walked inside, and they were discussing how to get more customers into the store, which is ironic given what happens next....). I live just around the corner and this was my first time trying this adorable new spot...and I can't believe it took me this long!! The staff was incredibly kind and friendly and helped me choose the Black Panther smoothie which I am sipping as I write this and it's just soooo goood!! I really wanted to like Hibiscus Brew but had the strangest interaction this morning there and will not be returning. The worker didn't seem to understand what was going on and I asked for a cappuccino and what type of breads they had as the signs were not displayed. After a back and forth over what they were I told her yes, banana bread sounds great, I'll take one. She rung me up and proceeded to make my drink. The total came to $14 and I thought this is strange but oh well would like to support them. And then she comes back with my drink and askes if I want both breads in the same bag. I told her that I only ordered one banana and she then argued with me about it. I was pleasant and said no, I just had one banana but now I'm curious did you charge me for more? And she blatantly tells me "no" I was feeling so flustered by the rude interaction I just went on my way, but I'm sorry $14 for a small cappuccino and a piece of banana bread....somethings off here. Will not be trying again and will bring my business directly across the street to the coffee shop where I'm not ripped off. read more
