The walls are covered in specials and seasonal drinks but many order from the main menu mounted behind the register. These feature classic combinations amounting to a large selection which is numbered for convenience. I opted for the Passion Green smoothie, a delicious blend of kale and spinach, overshadowed by pineapple and mango (no complaints there!) Hawa offers a good selection of fruit-based vs. veggie-based flavors and it's easy to find flavor combos that you like. They also have a "detox" selection on the menu which looks good but I didn't feel comfortable ordering a "detox dinner smoothie" in the middle of the day. It seems the only differences are that there are lemon and cayenne in some, but it just struck me as a weird label. Definitely come for the smoothies. I used to live by the Hawa in EV and was happy to find one not far from me in Brooklyn! I woke up this morning with a sore throat, and needed something cold and filling that would be easy to eat. This bowl really hit the spot. The Açaí Bowls aren't super fancy, and there's a limited number of toppings you can get. I chose to add Almond Butter which I think really made the bowl. It was super fresh, good amount of fruit/granola, and the perfect amount of almond butter. At $10 I was happy with my investment. Stopped on my way from my hotel to the courthouse. I'd originally had eyes on one of the smoothie bowls but wanted something to "eat" on the go and got the PB Punch smoothie. Pow! The peanut butter punchiness cannot be denied. Nice, smooth texture and they gave me a little carrying bag, too! Sweet! Service was quick and I was in and out. There was only 1 person ahead of me, it was around 8:30 a.m. I'm guessing other times are busier. A nice perk was the smoothie was actually a full breakfast that kept me feeling full the whole morning. I usually start feeling the need for snackage around mid-morning, especially after dealing with obnoxious attorneys all morning. But not so on this day, as I lasted until 1:30ish when I managed to grab a quick lunch before heading back to JFK. Working in the area, I thought I'd find a place to go and treat myself to an ice cold delicious bubble tea. Hailing from Astoria, where we have Tea and Milk, I wanted to give another a place I haven't heard of a shot. After doing some Yelping, I decided on checking this place out during my lunch break. I had a little trouble finding it, and almost didn't open the door because the outside windows are all covered in papers and other things. I walked in, and couldn't help but notice how incredibly small the place is. It's difficult for more than 7 people to stand there comfortably. After checking out the menu, I was asked what I wanted to order. For one reason or another, the cashier was a bit stressed, and it showed in the customer service. I placed my order, and waited maybe no less than five minutes before getting my bubble tea order. I tried taking pictures of the place inside, but all menus strictly forbade photography! I had a sip of my drink, the Japanese matcha latte, and it was incredibly sweet. Way too sweet to really derive any flavor from it. I had to toss half of it out because I couldn't take the sweetness. I got a regular sized passionfruit boba tea ($3.50) and two wheatgrass shots ($2.50 for 1 oz; $4.50 for 2 oz). The passionfruit tea had a good flavor. It was tart, tangy, and not overwhelmingly sweet. The boba, however, wasn't as chewy as I'd like it to be and I thought it was a tad undercooked. Wheatgrass shots weren't anything special. I was given some cut pineapple as a palate cleanser. The taste didn't linger in my mouth as I thought it would, and the pineapple was sweet and refreshing. The shop itself is really small, and reminded me of a store you might find in Hawaii. They serve a lot of smoothies and acai bowls. The staff is very friendly and helpful. For the last two years, I've worked a few blocks away from Hawa smoothies. I cannot recall why I decided to go in initially, but I don't regret it. This place introduced me to acai bowls and boy are they heavenly! Their prices may sound high, but you get your money's worth- fresh ingredients, filling items, healthy options, and most importantly happiness! They have a few acai bowls (peanut butter, almond butter, coconut, kale, and ginger). They are each layered with the acai and fruit blend, fresh strawberries, bananas, mango, and granola. They are very filling and come in small and large. I usually opt for the $9 small, but don't let the size fool ya'...you'll feel stuffed, in a healthy way. I have tried numerous items on the menu and none have disappointed! I've only had two bad experiences, but they really weren't bad. First: I ordered the chocolate champ, which includes chocolate, peanut butter, almond milk, and chocolate protein, and it was two sweet, but that was after about half the cup. Second: I ended waiting about 20 minutes for the chocolate champ mentioned above and it wasn't even crowded that day. I had ordered a small ($5), but to compensate for the wait they gave me a large. What you will see is, if I had received my original order, I don't think it would have been as overwhelmingly sweet as I had described above.
