I was so excited to get hibachi. Here I was thinking that no one can mess up hibachi, after all I wasn't going there for the tricks but for the food....boy was I wrong! Walking in, this place looked very cheesy but I kept telling myself that the food would be good. There was a 15 min wait for a table so I went to the bar. We sat there for at least 10 minutes before a bartender came over and even then we had to ask for a drink menu. The menu had food stains and was dirty but bartender seemed nice. We finally get seated and once again the menu's look outdated and firty. We both ordered the house special (chicken, shrimp and salmon). It came with a salad and fried rice. Our salads came out in plastic bowls. The first thing I thought to myself was am I a child? We should be served in glass bowls. Our chef was not good with his time management. Vegetables were burnt and so was the salmon. He tried to cover up that the salmon was burnt by putting sauce on it. He put this sauce that tasted like "sweet and sour soy sauce" on EVERYTHING! The shrimp also was not cleaned. I didn't eat 75% of mine because it still had shrimp feces i it. I was so disappointed. Always amazing. The cooks are sooooo friendly and fun! They cook in front of you for a group of about 8 people and do tricks along the way. The salad dressing is VERY good and the chicken teriyaki is always great. The local Clipper Magazine always has a buy one get one free coupon every month. We only go if we have one of those, because each meal is about $18. read more

One of my absolute favorite places to eat. Great service, fresh food, and its not expensive. My family and I go here quite often, and don't see that stopping anytime soon. I suggest everything on the menu, and you're missing out on the experience if you don't have the food prepared in front of you. What presentation and decent food. The problem - you cannot sit in any area of the restaurant and order what you want. My spouse wanted the all you can eat sushi, but we were in the Hibachi section and they would not serve it there. The food is so so. The chefs are talented but the table service is horrible. Waited 10 mins for a drink order. 40 mins before the chef came this the table and discovered the waiter had neglected to tell the kitchen about my food allergy. i don't normally go to hibachi, so i'm no professional at these things. walking in, their "waiting room" is huge and has a neat, but ultimately cheezy waterfall/creek/garden setup. i actually thought it was the main dining area. they also have a sushi bar and a bar bar (with alcohol? yes, silly) so you can get your drink on pre-grill-show. from what i understand we saw a typical hibachi performance from egg-spinning to shrimp-throwing. it was entertaining and the food was pretty good. i would recommend hibachi in general as a fun thing to do once every blue moon. its pretty expensive and the food wasn't something that made me want to come back specifically to this place. but, it was fun. read more

Everything is so immersed in salt that is all tastes the same. The show is entertaining so maybe its something you do once but after you pay the bill and retain a couple pounds in water weight, I don't think you'll go back. read more

People who don't like hibachi-style food probably had their first experience here. The food was meh, which was the highlight of the whole experience because the place was gross and borderline unsanitary. I watched the bus boy take a used, dirty napkin off of the table he was cleaning, dip it in a sani-bucket, and then wipe the table down. That was the extent of the "cleaning" after a table of 12 year old boys wrecked the place. When I asked the chef for more sauce, he grabbed someone else's bowl (a stranger, not someone in my party), and then he didn't understand when I looked disgusted and asked him to use my own bowl, thank you very much. They kept the to go boxes next to dirty dishes. The service was terrible, too. After being seated, we waited for over 30 minutes for our chef. I got splashed multiple times, and not during the whole "we are going to fling food at you" grand finale. No, this was the chef slapping food on my plate and haphazardly lighting things on fire. Don't get me wrong. I know how this game works. I love hibachi. This place was just terrible. read more

We love coming here. Very friendly staff and GREAT all you can eat Sushi! We never have done anything other than the all you can eat sushi. We've been here at leave 25 times and each time everything is really fresh and all their rolls are super tasty. Our favorite is the TNT roll! read more

My wife and I decided to try the all you can eat sushi at Hibachi in Downingtown. I was worried it might be a little sketchy and I was right. I had hoped we could order what we wanted but this was a buffet (something they don't mention in the advertisements). They would bring a small plate of sushi out every 15 minutes or so and everyone would only get a piece or two. I only had about eight pieces in an hour. I complained to the waiter and he told me if I wanted fast food to go to a fast food restaurant. After yelling at the manager, he did only charge us for one dinner, but it was too little to late. I have to say I am totally miffed at what had to be one of the worst dinning experiences ever. It was supposed to be a birthday celebration for wife, nice and sister in law. To start with, they wouldn't seat us untill the entire party of 11 got there. Then they made us wait 15 minutes after we all arrived. (nothing like having the early comers sit and enjoy the cocktail. The table was not big enough for 11 so they set up a little table on the end. Just like grandma's as a kid. There was old cooked shrimp on the floor an in the flower bed next to the table, they didn't have cold saki and they wouldn't take my coupon that I printed from the internet. The food was fair at best. with the chef cooking in stages so that the shrimp came last long after the veggies were cold. The bathroom was disgusting. Trash over flowing and the sink filty. I am never going back. You shouldn't either. read more

I absolutely love Hibachi! it is expensive so I usually only go when i can find a coupon, but i usually find one at least once every 2 months. If i don't find one, usually I'll fit it into my budget anyway, just not as often. The food is delicious and I've never had bad service, I've also never been there on a Friday or Saturday night, so i don't know what happens once they get really busy. The vegetables are always fresh and delicious, the salad is always crisp and fresh, the dressing is amazing, and the shrimp and chicken are fantastic as well. If there are better Hibachi places that are cheaper, I'd love to check them out because that must be an amazing deal.. but for now I'll stick with this one, it's close to home and I personally find it delicious. The show is also fantastic, but once you've seen it as many times as I have it starts to get a little less exciting. read more

The food is mediocre and I wouldn't call this a clean place. But here comes the worst: service is horrible and management doesn't really care. Last night my 14 year old daughter organized for her a birthday surprise dinner for her friend. They made a reservation for 5:45pm but it was put down for 6:45pm. When 8 of the group arrived before 6pm, they didn't get seated although there was space because 2 we're missing - my daughter and the birthday girl. The whole point was to sit at the table before the birthday girl would have arrived. Finally all 10 were seated at 6:10pm and wanted to order right away... They had enough time to study the menu while waiting... Their budget was based on the early bird rate which runs until 6:15pm... Orders were taken at 6:17pm but much to everybody's surprise, early bird rate was declined!! The young kids tried to get that changed - no chances. When I called the very same evening after the return of my daughter and asked to speak to the manager, I had no luck and have yet to be able to reach him. They even told me he is working but "too busy"... Instead he asked the bartender to call me to explain that they are not interested to fix this issue... She even went into a fight with me and I had to repeat 5 times that I expect a call from the manager... Well, still waiting for his call which I guess will never happen. I can only recommend to stay away from this pathetic place !! Very unprofessional behavior, even though I told them that I represent 10 different families which they apparently lost as future customers! read more

We've been going to Hibachi for several years, always for the the hibachi grill, and while its never been exceptional food, it's always been a good time. Unfortunately over the past year we've seen Hibachi take a turn for the worse and it seems on a downward spiral. After our last visit, I don't see us returning. First of all, with the whole hibachi experience, the chef makes or breaks the experience. In the past, each of the chefs was a great cook as well as a performer. You got a good simple meal and a great show. Over our last three visits, we've noticed the quality of the chefs really go down hill. There's one guy who's been there for a while and he's great, but the other chefs are preparing bad food and have no personality at all. It feels like they're just going thru the motions and don't have any enthusiasm for the job. Next the food. Our meal tonight was terrible. Not poor, not bad, but terrible. Under seasoned across the board, undercooked veggies, rubbery chicken, and scallops that had the consistency of an eraser. It was a combination of bad product plus bad preparation. Others at our grill left a lot of food on their plates as well, so it's not just our opinion. Lastly, and probably most worrisome,..... the restaurant has a lot of places where it's not clean and it makes us worry about what we don't see. From the outside, it looks like Hibachi might have closed down: unkept grounds and trash cans right outside the door, etc. Little if any effort at maintaining the external appearance. At are grill there were a number of troubling sights. The grill itself didn't look exceptionally clean. Build up around the edges of the grill and the exhaust vents had visible trails of grease leaking down ( obvious signs of poor cleaning ). Compounding the situation, our chef, at best, could be described as sloppy. Food was flying all around ( not in a good way! ) and the cleanup afterwards was half-hearted and poorly executed. It's not surprising the food was bad given the attention to detail around the grills. Other rooms in the restaurant look like they've been unused for a while and have become storage for chairs, cleaning equipment, etc. It's sad to see a favorite restaurant in decline, but unfortunately that's the case here. Many of the reviews seem to rave about the sushi, so maybe that's good, but at this time the hibachi part of the business certainly is not. We would not recommend this restaurant to others. If you do go, make sure you get a coupon from one of those mailer packs and certainly don't pay full price! read more

The food wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was better than most hibachi places. The portion sizes were very generous, and the atmosphere is pleasant. My fiancé and I have been coming to Hibachi of Downingtown for years. This was our go to place for all you can eat sushi and sashimi. Over the years, the quality of the food and service have steadily declined. More and more, every time we placed an order for sushi rolls or sashimi, we would get something completely different or not get the roll at all. One day in particular, we ordered an ikura roll. This is basically rice wrapped in seaweed with large pieces of lumpfish or salmon caviar on top. Normally, we love this stuff. However, when the food came and we tried 2 different pieces, we both spit out the rolls onto our plate because the roll tasted like rotten sewage. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and come back several more times. Each time we returned, the food was just mediocre. One dinner evening we had water that smelled and tasted like it came from a swamp. It was just downright disguising. How can you screw up plain water? Incidentally, on the last 3 occasions we've been here, the low sodium soy sauce smelled and tasted like a chemical used to clean bathrooms. Oh and let's not overlook and forget the other thing that is a complete and utter disappointment. The waitress. Each and every time we've been here, it's always the same waitress who looks totally depressed and miserable. She takes her sweet time to come to the table, disappears for what seems like an eternity, takes forever to bring your food. Doesn't bring you any water refills. Takes 10-15 minutes to bring you your check, after specifically asking for it. And she never smiles, never has a conversation with the guests, nothing. She's always so short, so angry and bitter looking. She totally ruins the whole dining experience. It makes coming here such a hassle. Who ever wants to eat mediocre food dipped in toilet bowl cleaner soy sauce and wash it all down with swamp water and wait till eternity for lousy service from a miserable waitress should come here. Otherwise, don't waste your time and your money. This place doesn't deserve my business. I will never return here again. read more

What a wonderful place to go if you want food and simple fun! The chefs are accommodating with orders and funny with their shows... each one is a little bit different. The waiters are nothing to sneeze about, but serviceable. The bartenders rock! The two that are usually there are so funny, like a comedy routine in itself. The restaurant itself is a beautiful (but cheesy) recreation of a Japanese garden complete with stream and koi. A great thing for atmosphere. Also if you have kids this whole restaurant will be a smorgasbord for the eyes! The sushi bar is clean and the chef is every efficient in making tons of tasty treats. The only draw back, if there can be one, is what seems to be the full time waitress of the sushi bar.. who is a sushi nazi! On buffet days she actually yells at you to finish your food or "no sushi for you!" She is the most unfriendly waitress I've ever seen. I would recommend ordering sushi from the bar or the hibachi tables just to avoid her. If it were not for the consistent unfriendly attitude and unaccommodating actions, this restaurant would have gotten 5 out of five stars! I love this restaurant. All you can eat Sushi. Arrived at 8:15 PM and the restaurant was empty. Took the waiters suggestion and ordered the all you can eat sushi. Had salad, and soup, and first plate of sushi arrived at 8:40. Time to talk, relax and have sushi - NO - At 9:00pm the waiter told us it was "last call" because the sushi area had to be cleaned for the night. We ordered a second plate of sushi, and the waiter said don't worry about ordering too much and wasting, contrary to the many signs posted in the sushi area. About 15 minutes later when the waiter brought the sushi, he also asked us to pay the bill because the register was closing. We paid and continued eating as various staff looked over to our table - not to serve, or ask if we needed something like water, but watched attentively as they cleaned around us. The smell of cleaning chemicals doesn't go well with sushi. I complained to the waiter, who smiled and said he didn't know, and smiled at his coworkers who seemed annoyed - I suspect a little "cultural confusion". We should have been told they were closing and time would be limited. We would have stayed, but not have chosen the "all you can eat" option. The manager apologized, and asked if we would like more salad. ?? ? I'll never understand that. So I guess from their prospective, it's appropriate to expect a couple to spend about $70.00 for food and drinks, and to do so within an hour. Eating at a fast food restaurant would be more relaxing. The sushi was decent, not excellent. I've had the hibachi dinner there as well at have not been impressed. We go for our kids birthdays. The food is very salty, and again, it's - quick, Sit - Eat - Pay - Leave - Now - I'm not returning - I finally learned my lesson. read more
