From someone who's been going to this place for years I'll keep it simple. Go to Kumamon up the road. It's better in every way shape and form. Hakata is falling apart from a management and staff standpoint. Food is still good if you actually get what you ordered. People around us were getting up and leaving because it took over 15 minutes for somebody to visit their table. It's just sad. Came here a while back with a friend. We came in during the beginning of lunch so it was very empty. I ordered the spicy tuna poke bowl, and for the price you get a very good amount, I had to take some of it to go because I was not able to finish. Everything tasted good and fresh, but my only criticism is that there was some sort of fruit in the bowl (pineapple or mango I can't remember) and nowhere on the menu does it say that there is fruit in the spicy tuna bowl. We have been going here for years. Sometimes they are slow, but that's a product of doing good business. Today was different. We walked in, only 2 other tables had patrons. It still took 10+ minutes to see a waitress. But some of our food came quickly. But when they delivered our soups (main course) one person in our group (of 3) did not get theirs. Neither did any of us get any utensils. Figured they would come when the other soup did. 5 minutes later, no waitress has been back, water and soda glasses are empty. We manage to wave down one of the workers, tell her the situation, and she gets 2 of us utensils, but no soup for my wife. Still empty glasses too. Another 5 minutes, nothing has been done. No apologies either. 15 minutes later, they say that she did not order soup. Well, whatever she did order still isn't here, and you haven't filled any glasses or even asked us how the things that did show up tasted. And no apologies. I ask to see the manager, the waitress lies and says she is the manager. I doubt it. A manager would have fixed things immediately and apologized, instead of cleaning up a table (that has been empty for the entire time we were there, right next to us) and ignoring us. This was my second time ! (first visit I had their ramen and it was delicious). Tonight, we had the Takoyaki (Octopus balls) & the Pork Gyoza (steamed, you can order fried) for appetizers. I've had enough, I can't take it any more. My original review was a 2/5 because of how bad the service is here and now that's becoming a 1. I ordered food tonight for my wife and I, nothing crazy, and was told 30 minutes. I work 20 minutes away and arrived as expected, 10 minutes early. When I checked in I was told about 10 minutes. No problem, exactly what I was expecting. 40 MINUTES LATER and I still didn't have food. Some delivery guy walked in at that point and got food for an order 8 numbers higher than mine with a 60 second wait and I was done. I flagged down a member of the staff and told them I was sick of waiting, and either wanted my food or a refund. She ran off and as I was watching everything magically appeared with almost no wait at all. I left without talking to the manager as she offered, my wife was already texting me asking what was going on. When we unpacked the food at home everything was room temperature. Given the ridiculous wait this food should have been comp'd AND remade. I can't believe they sent me out of there with this garbage. They just don't care. Nice place for ramen! Our server was friendly, the food came out fast, and it was tasty! For an appetizer we had the takoyaki and it was delicious. Easily the second best I've ever had, and I've had a lot of takoyaki. We both had the Hakata Tonkotsu Black Ramen and it was also very good. They had plenty of other ramen dishes to choose from as well as a nice selection of sushi. The interior was nice and had some neat decorations. There was little to no flavor in the miso ramen broth or in the chicken soboro in my order. I ended up having to add salt and chili oil to try to salvage it but ultimately it was still too bland. Overall, we had a great dining experience. I have no complaints about the customer service. Our food came fairly fast as well. We went on a Monday at 5pm and it was fairly empty. At first glance at the menu, it looked to be reasonably priced for the area and for the food. Not pictured in my review are the pork buns which were $7. We got two of them. The buns were very fluffy, sweet/neutral taste and had a nice hoisin flavor to the meat. For the price I wish there was more meat, but the flavor was delicious; for two buns though I guess the price is fair. The ratio of bun to meat and veggie just was a little disappointing. For our main course we got the Shaki Shiaki Ramen (photo 2) and Hakata Beef Ramen (photo 1). I have no complaints With the flavor of the Ramen and meat and toppings for both dishes. I was surprised to see reviews about a watery broth. My brothe was very lovely and I added some additional sauce and chili to the soup to enhance the flavor. it wasn't as spicy as I thought it was going to be, which was surprising, but pleasant. honestly the only thing that would give these dishes a better rating would be the meat to ramen ratio. However, that aside, the quality of the meat and toppings were quite delicious. I'd definitely try out this place if you haven't been to a ramen place before. If you are going for more traditional experience and have high expectations then I would lower them a little. The atmosphere isn't as LUX as I thought it would be for the pricing and photos on their website (also the radio station had advertisements but I'm picky lol) but it is BYOB so that's a plus. Waited an hour and twenty three minutes for our food, they said that there was a problem, and then they realized they forgot to put our order in. We watched three groups of people get served and leave before we got our food. Our appetizers came out cold. We ordered the hakata tonkatsu ramen at the spicy level, but it ended up being just black pepper spicy. Ordered the samurai ramen and it was okay. Food presentation was visually good though. This is my first time writing a review anywhere, but this was so bad I had to. I ordered online for delivery, and it said it was a pretty long wait, which I was fine with. An hour and a half rolls by and their website said the food was still being prepared. I decided to call in to check the status of my order, only for them to tell me it's been ready for 20 minutes and there are no drivers, so I need to come pick it up. Frustrated, I went to go pick it up hoping that they would at least wave my delivery fee and driver tip. When I got there, the lady who was working blew me off and was extremely rude. She would not waive the fee or even listen to my concerns. I asked to talk to a manager or someone different, and she refused to let me talk to anyone. Lunch with a coworker today who wanted a bowl or ramen while I was fixed for fish. Friendly staff and very clean. Seatting is also very linear so not allot of confusion or navigation needed to get around like some places that just pack tabletops everywhere. Being new probably some kinks but the skewers weren't available. I think the waiter felt bad and got the kitchen to make a spicy chicken skewer which was fantastic. BYOB. S/o stated that the woman's bathroom was a total mess with broken glass and paper towels everywhere. Shrimp shu Mai was relatively flavorless. The karrage chicken was fantastic. They got my drink order correct, not my s/o's and, when corrected they still gave her the wrong thing. As far as the men's bathroom, the changing station appears to have been broken for some time. I've never written a review before but feel the need to write this one. Unfortunately, the service here was horrible. I read a few reviews about the service but saw mostly positive reviews about the food so I decided to try it anyway. Mistake. When we ordered our sushi, the waiter asked if we were in a hurry because a bunch of people just ordered so our food would probably take 20 minutes. We said that was fine. The waiter then didn't come back to check on us for 40 minutes. He only came back to our table because I flagged him down to ask for our food. He didn't seem to care how long we had been waiting. Something to note - there were about 6 tables of people at the restaurant. Over half of the tables were empty so not quite sure how they get food out when the restaurant is full. Definitely would steer clear of this place during peak times, or ever. read more

Really good. Atmosphere was nice, very clean and open with lots of natural light. I went at lunch time and there was plenty of seating available. There are tables and what looked like two separate sushi bar areas to sit although I'm not sure they're using them for seating right now. I had the kimchi and 5 pcs of the fried chicken as an appetizer and then the tonkatsu black ramen for my entree. The Kimchi was decent, not bad but not the best I've had. The fried chicken was also good, a bit plain on its own but paired with the sauce it's served with it's good. Fried well and generous sized pieces. The ramen was also pretty good. A bit under salted for my taste but I like things a little on the saltier side. I added a bit of soy sauce and it was perfect. Noodles were cooked perfectly and the portion was good. Glad to see this Ramen place opening up in the Exton area. The ambiance looked great with neat decor and well suited for both a date and groups alike. There is ample parking in the front. Coming to the food, their menu is very extensive but I went with the classic Hakata Tonkotsu Black Ramen on my first visit. Broth was little watery and salty to my taste but was OK overall. Pork Chashu was delicious and just melted in my mouth. I chose thick noodles and requested them to be soft. I'm glad they were perfectly cooked. However, the noodles were overpowered by the bean sprouts. In addition, I could hardly taste the black garlic oil. I requested for spicy chili paste but they gave me some chili oil. It had literally no flavor. Overall, it's a decently put together bowl but not very filling. It's a 3.5 stars for me at the moment. Service was OK. I will probably update the rating once I try more items on the menu. Recommended! read more

Pretty underwhelming visit but not garbage either. As a Ex-Sushi manager, I felt semi-comfortable but underwhelmed. Was my first time at one of these stores, and felt very mixed. Ambiance was nice and room was well lit and decorated nicely, however the open sushi concept was not well utilized, the chefs are not social and don't hand food directly to customers, and food displayed at the bar has film and ugly containers. The speed of service was iffy as staff was very codependent and finding a good balance of managing take out and being attentive with customers was a struggle, and included some mild arguing on the floor. Staff made little effort to check in on tables, and got very flustered as the rush came through, even as I was sitting with empty plates staff would wait 5 - 10 to address me and ask if I needed anything. Coming in on a weekday, it definitely worries me for what a weekend looks like. Food was below average, received tastings from all sides of the menu. The tea they offered was half steeped and not very flavorful. Appetizers took significantly longer than expected to arrive and weren't very flavorful. Sashimi was cut very long, and high I wasn't used too but had decent texture but definitely nothing top shelf. It worked well for sushi as you got more per bite, but as it's not my preference it didn't do much for me. Rolls were constructed well, could use more rice to fish ratio, but everything advertised as spicy was a real let down. Needed significantly more heat and spicy tuna / salmon mixtures needed more fish texture and less crunch mixed in. Presentation for sushi was decent, but appetizers felt very rushed and included wilted lettuce and pointless fruits and too much sauce for the provided portions. Additionally, everything fried didn't have clean plates without oil, which combined with pointless vegetables made for an amazing combination. Overall, Price was decent and I felt accurately valued what I ate as sushi should be charged decently high, appetizers should be cheaper to represent portion size more consistently across the menu. The price would be worth more if my service was more prioritized. Waited VERY long and had to ask three times for the check, which obviously isn't preferred. In an area with amazing restaurants, not sure if it's one I would come back too. read more
