Ventured into this store today after being discouraged by the high prices of Al's next door. I walked in and went to the back as I was in search of a glass bong but was quickly greeted by an employee. The cashier who appeared to be the manager or owner began to talk to us and asked what exactly we were looking for. We told him that we were looking for a cheaper bong as we only had £120 to spend on it. He pulled a very nice German made bong that was decently sized -at least 50 centimetres tall. He offered that for £120, but wait, it gets better. He then pulled out another piece. It had an ice tray, removable downstem, bowl, and some additional vents along with many other features. This piece that apparently retails for £160 was offered to us in our price range. He wrapped it with several pieces of bubble wrap and placed it in a nice box. This is now my favourite and go to place to buy smoke-related things. I just hope I'll be able to get it through customs once I return to the UK! read more

I came all the way from San Jose to Berkeley in search of my first water pipe and checked out a few cool smoke shops and the last being high times. I ended up purchasing a 2 chamber water pipe after I thought I got a good deal on it little did I know the same piece was being sold a lot cheaper down the street. I used it the 2nd day only to see it shatter without even dropping it. I returned it couple days later explaining to the guy whom sold it to me what happened and he was very rude after being polite the first time around. I was very frustrated but I know I will never deal with this place again and ITS OK TO SPEND MORE FOR QUALITY PIECES. I ended up spending little more down the street for a triple chamber I paid a little more for but have had it for a week now and its great even my friends loved it. I am wary of retail businesses. The salesman take advantage of the uninformed customer. Not the case at Hi Times. They are family owned which separates them from other shops in the area. The owner painstakingly oversees his employees in the correct ways to help customers get the quality they want that meets their budget . They greet me with sincerity and enthusiasm rare in retail sales. They are happy to see I am comparing prices and will do everything they can to meet or beat a competitors lowest price. I am a business man and always leave knowing I have gotten the best prices and quality for my money. i was there the day before and i purchased two glass pipes, really beautiful and strong pipes, color changing too. they have these really cool designs. I bought one for my girlfriend and other for myself. She is in love with these pipes, she is more in love with me now. she thinks this is one of the best gifts she has received from me but i wanna surprise her one more time, i looked at a water pipe in this store, and they offered me the best deal but i wasn't ready to buy it then but now i wanna go back and buy it for my girlfriend and surprise her. this is the best place, i love those people working in there and how they treat customer. i am seriously going back and ya'll should go too. read more

So i went into hi times because i wanted to purchase a water pipe. As soon as i walked in he told me "I got good deals buddy" he started showing me a bunch of stuff i didn't wanted before i even had a chance to look at anything. All i wanted was a simple beaker he showed me everything but that so i left i went to Big Al's next got exactly what i wanted an 18 inch pyrex beaker i was extremely satisfied with their customer service i was in and out in 5 minutes. i was very disgusted at what i saw at hi times all they had was a bunch of imported and chindian glass they are horrible. Brought some friends here to check out shops, we agree this one is the best on Telepgraph. Honest people..good energy. Found out the owners are husband and wife and seem to be there together most days we come by. Prices are good. Selection is pretty damn huge. And we don't feel like we're gonna get robbed here..unlike the other places I've seen. Oh and it's right next to our favorite Indian place :) Seriously no complaints. We talked with them for like an hour about traveling to Nepal and more. Very open people. Don't know why some people on here have been harsh. This is literally the best place in Berkeley to get anything and everything that's related to smoking. They have a huge selection of just about anything you want. The people are very friendly and will go to any extent to keep you satisfied. They have an amazing selection of hookah rigs and tobacco. Not to mention just about any premium flavors. Great selection of everything a head shop should have from incense and salvia to bongs, pipes, vaporizers, and attachments. The guy who owns the shop is usually there and he knows what he's doing and what tools you're gonna need for whatever job you're trying to get done (I mean everything from herbal medicine to beyond). I haven't found him pushy, and I always get just exactly what I need. He'll also give you a deal on anything you buy and quite a nice discount for large purchases and/or repeat customers. read more

I bought a vape and two bongs (beautiful pure glass and a mio) from here and there's a reason I kept coming back. The workers are very friendly and they don't pressure you like other shops in the area. The owner is a really personable guy and wants you to leave satisfied. Their products are high quality, great selection (especially for bongs), and they are willing to negotiate. Must visit place if you are trying to get a good deal.
