Was looking for a bubble tea place for our Seattle trip and found this spot. Saw the high reviews and decided to give them a try. A couple of things I noticed when I walked in: 1) Cute place 2) No boba smell 3) Quiet (I was the only customer) Yes, I do rate my tapioca pearls based on smell. Why? Because about 8 out of 10 places I've been to that has that aroma usually means to me that they are making fresh boba (or just made fresh boba) while no smell means old boba. Needless to say, I was not impressed, but I ordered the classic milk tea anyway. I can NOT not order something when I'm the only customer; can not just walk out. Yes, I also judge if the place is good or not by how popping it is. Hey, don't judge me. Drink was cheap for its size, including boba AND tax was $5.79. You definitely cannot beat that price anywhere. But you get what you paid for: the drink was watered down and my boba was stuck together. The clump got stuck in my fat straw, which was such a disappointment. I will not be coming back. Street parking, if you are lucky enough to find a spot on this busy main street. I finished eating lunch nearby and Hi Tea Cafe was the closest boba shop, prompting a quick visit. Boba Milk Tea, 50% Sweet, 30% Ice ($4.50) - What!? Only $4.50 for a standard 22 oz drink, with boba included? Let me tell you, I've had thousands of drinks from hundreds of boba shops all across the US and I have to say - that's a killer price. I haven't seen boba so cheap in maybe a decade for an actual standalone boba shop. With the price comes some apprehensiveness. Can this place actually be any good? The answer is a surprising yes. The milk tea actually tastes like black tea. Quite heavily in fact - while the drink is a milky creamer color, it's very light in taste and instead seems to be only there to add body. The sweetness is pretty much on the dot not-too-sweet, which is a huge bonus given that 50% sweet at a lot of places are tad too sweet for me. I actually recommend getting this drink with more ice than 30%. The amount of ice added wasn't enough to cool down the drink fully, resulting in one that was only slightly under room temperature. Now the boba isn't the best, but for only $4.50 I'm not complaining too much. The pearls are kind of on the firm side, with a decent chew on the exterior but a unpleasant harder pebble-like texture in the center. Not the most pleasant boba texture, but I've had way worse. Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 3/5 There are better boba shops down the road, but the drinks served at Hi Tea Cafe are a steal for people who are price sensitive. The milk tea wasn't amazing but wasn't bad either. I got 50% sugar and I felt like it tasted a little watered down. The prices were fair and there was seating in there to hang out which was nice. It's not my go to place but can be worth checking out if you're curious! read more

Came in after having a quick bite near Seattle University and I was craving some boba. Hi Tea Cafe was one of the few boba places I have yet to try in the Seattle area, so I wanted to cross that off my list. To be honest my expectations weren't too high since this place is basically unheard of amongst the sea of other boba shops that exist in the city. The interior of the shop was quite tacky, I was kind of getting the "middle age suburban mom" decor type of vibe. Random positive affirmations written around the place like "Dream Big" or some other uplifting quote. I don't know, that kind of vibe just felt outdated to me. Anyways, I ordered their Mango Sago Pomelo drink which was one of their specialty drinks here. My first sip I thought it wasn't too bad and I could maybe enjoy this drink. But after a few more sips my face started to make that sour look you get after tasting, ya know... a very sour taste. I didn't realise the pomelo part of the drink would be pomelo pulp bits rather than squeezed pomelo. And that pomelo pulp was SO sour it just completely ruined the drink for me. And don't get me wrong I like pomelo, but with this drink it was just not it. I still drank most of it because the rest of the drink was okay, but I repeatedly made that sour face every time I drank it. I'm sure the other drinks has got to be a little better, but I'm not that hopeful. Okay drinks, nothing special but nothing terrible. Maybe a little watered down? I'd come back if in the area because there are a ton of great restaurants, but would not go out of my way to come. This was over the summer when they had no dine in and you ordered through a window, so maybe the consistency was off for other reasons. Mango Sago Pomelo - sweet with a fair taste of mango, it was still pretty smooth and liquidy. The sago was typical. I would say this is comparable to most other mango sago drinks you might find at boba spots. Nothing too special about it, so just average. Cookie Milk Tea - I added crystal boba here, I don't remember why but I want to think they ran out of boba. The crystal boba was fine, pretty standard so no comment. I lived across the street and noticed a fairly steady stream of clientele, which gave me hope. When I visited, there was no access inside (I'm sure things have changed now). You order yourself on the iPad and wait on the sidewalk. We were asked to wait a few minutes before placing our order, maybe because they were a little backed up? Our drinks were a bit delayed coming out, so that would check out. I tried the mango yakult. Not my typical tea order, but no time like the present to try something new, right? It was okay. Good in a pinch, but not too memorable. I like that you can adjust sugar and ice levels. My friend had similar sentiments about her drink, too. Love this place! I've been needing more boba spots in Capitol Hill and this is definitely going on the favorites list. I ordered a jasmine milk tea with boba and it was delicious! I wish it was a little more sweeter so I'll ask for higher sugar level next time. The boba itself was the perfect consistency of not being too chewy or hard with a good level of sweetness. I barely tasted any lavender flavor, and it was still really sweet, so I'm glad I didn't get 100% sweetness. The texture of the boba was mediocre: it seemed overcooked and wasn't that chewy. This is a limited review as we only had one drink, and we enjoyed this one drink. It's one of their new drinks - Mango Sago Pomelo. This mix is fairly common in especially Cantonese oriented drink stores (vs. Taiwanese) so I was quite familiar with it. Flavor wise, it's a bit light in mango taste but mango isn't in season, so I'm not faulting them. The sago is very tender and soft. That was good. The pomelo is just a small amount for a touch of citrus, which is as it should be. Overall, the creaminess is what I enjoyed, very well blended vs. icy bits. I went here after exiting the light rail station (pretty much across the street) to get some boba as it has been a month since I had boba (my 2nd boba run total in 2022). I got the classic milk tea with boba half sweet less ice, and the order was fairly quick despite it being a bit busy. The milk tea itself is decent, a little bit uneven in sweetness, but it did the job in satisfying the cravings. The boba is very good - it has a nice chewy texture that is just perfect! One small hiccup is that the drink was not filled all the way - perhaps because less ice? Though it make sense but it's a little pet peeve of mine. I ordered a hot ginger milk tea with boba. The pearls were soft and chewy, and the ginger flavor was prominent but not overpowering-- a perfect holiday flavor if you ask me! The staff said that they use non-dairy creamer, so most of their milk teas should be good for lactose-intolerant folks or vegans. I got the oatmilk option with mine. I thought the interior is cute, you can tell they definitely put in a lot of effort into decorating the place with uplifting quotes on the walls. I saw some reviews saying the decorations are tacky, but hey, if you're looking for a cafe with a clean interior and white walls to take pics with, this is a great place. Hi Tea is super underrated in my opinion. Every time I've gone, the boba is always the perfect softness/chewiness. The one downside is that I always find the drinks too sweet, even at 25% sweet. I'd definitely recommend going down on the sweetness if you don't want your drink overloaded in sugar. read more

Hi Tea is one of my favorite boba places in downtown Seattle! The location is super convenient since it's near the middle of Cap Hill and it's right next to the Link station and a bus stop. I also really love the variety of drinks they have - my go-to drink is their Lychee Yakult with Crystal Pearls, but this isn't listed on the menu. If you want a yakult drink you might have to ask an employee directly! Their egg puff waffles are also really nice, especially fresh. It appears as though this place is a hit or miss based on the Yelp reviews. I decided to give it a try anyway because I was in the area and I am always down to give new tea/boba shops a shot! Upon stepping in, I immediately liked the decor as it's very cute/modern/clean and most definitely welcoming. They also have a lot of selection on their menu from milk teas, to cream foams, chocolate, coffee, etc. I ordered the Cream Foam White Peach Oolong with light ice. The tea was great, 4 stars for sure. The flavor was very distinct and you could taste the tea, so it wasn't watered down in the slightest. The cream foam was good, but not particularly memorable. However, the temperature was a complete miss. I thought my tea would have been chilled at least, but my drink came out lukewarm and that ruined the whole drink to say the least. Perhaps 3 stars is generous, but I want to give them credit for having solid tea and cream foam. read more

My go-to for milk tea on Capitol Hill! A very cute atmosphere. It's a great place to meet up with friends, though a little too bustling if you need to focus on work. They have a great flavor selection, including some less-common favorites of mine like almond and coconut. After changing owners earlier this year I think Hi Tea Cafe has a nice place on Capital Hills busy intersection of John and Broadway. I haven't had enough of the bubble teas to really make a proper review, but from what I did try so far was A-OK. Their tea isn't that strong, but it could just be due to the amount of milk/dairy in the drink that masked the strengths of the tea flavour. But I do appreciate how they are bringing a bunch of the typical Asian snacks to eat along with your tea. Hi Tea Cafe has kept the nice clean interior from the previous owners of Yoyo and long with their WIFI. I will be back to try some of their other drink items and the bubble waffle next time. Came here yesterday with my mom and I'm really digging the interior decor! I really like the theme of the place. It's clean and cute and has that kind of high end feel to it with its white theme. My mom ordered the brown sugar milk with pudding (50% sweetness) and I ordered the Lychee yakult with basil seed. Mom really liked the brown sugar milk and with the 50% it was perfect because sometime that drink can be too sweet if you keep it at 100%. For me, I really enjoyed my lychee yakult. It was good blend between the two. I've had it at other places, where the fruit flavor would overwhelm the yakult so it wasn't as tart as I'd like it to be. Saw this boba spot open up recently while in Cap Hill. It's where the old Tea Republik used to be, off Broadway & John, near the Link Light Rail Station. It's pretty minimalist decor as your walk in, some friendly greetings as you enter. There's some hi-top tables to sit at, some small couches to lounge at, and some tables to sit with a friend. No menu board but there are a few menus on the counter (in English and Chinese). I decided to try their milk tea and got the "Yoyo Cream Foam Milk Tea" (add boba and only 50% sweet). It was ok, wished it was more tea flavor, the foam was pretty good being slightly sweet & salty, boba was fine. It takes a few extra minutes to get your drink as when there was only 1 dude making all the drinks and 1 person trying to assist and also work the register at the same time. They don't give you a number or call you by name, so be sure to REMEMBER what you ordered because they will call that out. Trust me, sounds simple but it's complicated for some people and there was a bit of a confusion of who ordered what (not sure how people do not remember what they ordered). I think they are still working out some kinks, there were some drinks that had to be re-made, some drink orders that missed some items that were supposed to be included and some drinks had items in there that people didn't order. Overall, it was ok, fine & dandy, staff was friendly, worked hard to get the drink orders out, pricing is what I figured it would be..... glad there's a boba spot in Cap Hill, I would come back to try some other drinks and give them a chance to work out the kinks etc. read more

My friends and I came to yoyo station back in the summer and I have mixed feelings. First I absolutely adore their decor. It's so bright, neutral, and extremely spacious. It has the aesthetic of an "up and poppin Cap Hill cafe/coffee shop". There's plenty of seating as well. They have a cute quote up on one of the walls, and some plants for some added greenery. We ordered three of their earl grey teas. However we were confused on the difference between the cheese foam and cheese cream options. Although the barista attempted to explain them to us, we still didn't understand. I'm just not a fan of the flavor. The tea was alright, but the tapioca was underwhelming and left a sticky residue and taste in my mouth. I've had better salted cheese elsewhere.
