He packed it quickly thereafter and I was back on my way home. I saw a few of the negative reviews so I didn't have hopes up. I only wanted to have fried chicken, any would do. So imagine my surprise when I tore into my chicken and found it DRIPPING with juices. Hear me out, I've had Korean fried chicken, Japanese fried chicken (not katsu), Chinese fried chicken and NONE were as juicy as this one. I bought the squid ink battered fried whole chicken. From the first bite to the last was a joy. It needed no sauce so I never used the accompanying spices. I will definitely be back. read more

Worse, the chicken inside the sandwich was pink, which immediately raised food-safety concerns. To make matters worse, we found a hair in one of the three sandwiches. That alone was enough to completely kill our appetite and trust. The total was the final straw. The order was about $63, but after checkout it somehow jumped to nearly $80, which is far beyond normal tax. Hey Chicken is another Chinese chicken shop that I've wanting to try and see how it compares to others in the area. I first ordered to order via a food app, but the order ended up being cancelled. After arriving, I used the kiosk to place my order. I went around 6:00 pm and it was not busy at the time. The interior is a bit small with several seatings that mainly accommodated groups of 4.They have a parking lot in the back. For my order, I got the spicy chicken sandwich and a side of popcorn chicken. The popcorn chicken was crunchy and juicy. For the sandwich, it was also juicy and spicy. Came on a Saturday afternoon around 12 pm and sat down as the only dine in customers. Pricing was pretty fair - 9.99 per burger and 4.99 for the onion rings. Specialty sauces like honey mustard and hey chicken sauce were .69 cents extra, but ketchup was free! I was really trying to get soup today, but that place was closed, so I took a walk around the strip mall and found this chicken place. The person at the register was nice and helped with all my questions. The music was super loud, so it was hard to hear sometimes. I ended up getting a chicken wrap and mozzerella sticks. I was pretty hungry at this point, so I went for a mozzerella stick as I walked back to my car. As I took a bite, hot oiled dripped out of the stick... but i figured it was just newly cooked. So then i get to my car and bit into another stick and it still had hot oil in it, and it burnt my lip a bit. I think it was just cooked at too high a temperature because there was no cheese in the stick, it had all just sunk to the bottom (see pic). The chicken wrap was just a plain ole wrap to me. Came here in-person during soft opening, they had a pretty good special bogo whole fried chicken. It was actually good and tasted clean, a reason I decided to come back. Months later, I placed an online pick up order on a random Sunday at approximately 8:30 PM. Drive to the store, and it's closed, lights off. The stores hours says Monday-Sunday 11:30 AM to 11:30 PM. Nope for whatever reason, the store is closed. Ok well, things happen and maybe they needed to close that night. The issue is, their online ordering system accepted my order and took my money. I even called the next day, no answer to my phone calls. I'm mad obviously, I file a dispute with my credit card company. For whatever reason, credit card company sided with the merchant after chowbus responded (won't be using citi credit cards anymore but that's a different story), and I have no idea what chowbus's response was. I'm rating this place 1 star because of this experience, and the fact that they stole my money (goods never received). I refuse to support businesses that have zero responsibility and accountability. Everyone needs to try this place. Their chicken is breaded in house, cooked to order, and sooo much better than the big chain restaurants. Be prepared to wait for your food -- because they're actually cooking -- not just pulling it from a warming tray. I've tried hey chicken in Rowland Heights, San Jose, and now San Gabriel. San Gabriel is one of the best run locations. Every Hey Chicken I've been to feels like a very small business. Often only one or two people running it. Do not come here if you're in a rush or a need a lot of attention from the staff. They will make you amazing food, but don't expect them to be chatty. We normally do: Chicken thigh -- my favorite. Juicy, brined meat. Perfect crunch and seasoning. It's a 'last meal' tier dish for me. Chicken sandwich -- very good, but warning, every time I've had it, it's dark meat whereas many other places use white. Because it's dark and freshly cooked, it beats out all other chicken sandwiches IMO. Popcorn Chicken -- hand breaded dark meat with a black pepper flavor. Much more meaty than your average popcorn Chicken Fries -- They're very good - I hope they never change. I always order them. They are top-tier, but you've probably had fries like this before. Something about their frier oil always seems 'clean' to me. I'm not sure what they're using. But for example, some hey chickens have mozzarella sticks, which are very nice because the oil is doesn't add the heavy burned flavor you get at other places. Some reviewers complained about under-cooked meat. I've never had a problem. Maybe they don't know dark meat isn't supposed to look the same as white meat. Love love love this chicken. While driving down valley, I saw this new location pop up and it looked so cute. I love the little logo of the chicken, and have always been curious to try their fried chicken! The chicken was very fresh, it came out piping hot, and the rattan pepper flavor was spicy but not too overwhelming. I stopped by last night to grab something quick after the Grammys , this bright yellow of this corner shop stood out nicely in the rain and gave warm happy vibes. I ordered crispy rattan whole chickens, a popcorn chicken, and white peach tea, which the waitress helped recommend. They definitely fried those chickens freshly so expect a wait of 10-15 min. Those were for a long time after I got home. They had this cute bear mascot for the milk tea brand that I took pics of while I waiting. The wall art is pretty funny too. Inside Hey Chicken! is also a boba shop called "Mist" that has relatively cheap prices! I had the hot spicy chicken sandwich and it was just okay. I paid $1 more for the spicy one and I barely tasted any spice. I was expecting spicy mayo or something like Popeyes but they just marinate the chicken in spicy seasoning. There's a private parking lot behind the restaurant, so you don't have to worry too much. It is a small parking lot though. Service was excellent!
