I recently had the distinct pleasure of experiencing a wine tasting at Hewitt Vineyards (it's at BV right), and I can unequivocally say it was an absolutely superb visit from start to finish. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I was greeted with genuine warmth, and the tasting room itself was elegantly appointed, right in the middle of beautiful Napa Valley. It was clear that every detail, from the presentation of the wines to the knowledgeable staff, was meticulously curated to provide an unforgettable encounter. The highlight of the tasting, without a doubt, was the Cabernet Sauvignon. Having sampled many Cabs over the years, I can confidently state that Hewitt Vineyards' offering stands out as truly exceptional. It possessed a remarkable depth of flavor, a rich and complex bouquet that hinted at dark fruits and subtle spice, and a velvety smooth finish that lingered beautifully on the palate. As long time club members, the Hewitt cabs and overall tasting experience has always been one of our favorites in the valley. The staff is stellar, we loved the separate room, the vertical tastings with multiple glasses, and the well thought out charcuterie plate. We've enjoyed hours talking about the aromas, tastes, and pairings across multiple vintages. It was an immersive experience that we've shared with family and friends throughout the years. Our last experience, however, fell short of our expectations. Pouring a vertical tasting in the same glass did not allow us to appreciate and compare across vintages. One could argue this last experience was a disservice to the consumer and an injustice to the wine itself. In our opinion, vertical tastings are most enjoyed when served side by side. We've come to expect a certain level of care which we have thoroughly enjoyed in the past. We hope this most recent visit was just an awkward misstep and look forward to a future experience that showcases the high-caliber Rutherford cabs that Hewitt Vineyards can provide. read more

Rude and condescending host because we didn't like the wine. Wine choice is personal and our host didn't seem to understand that. We went up to try single vineyard wines and unfortunately were insulted at Hewitt. The host outside was polite but didn't notify the staff inside that we were there for a Hewitt tasting. We walked in and they didn't seat us in the private Hewitt tasting room. This was fine. We had never been there but now I wonder if they had just been discriminatory. We sat on a couch and a host started telling us about the Provence wines. Confused, I asked about the relationship between Hewitt and Provenance. He immediately told us that the Hewitt wine was club only and not sold to the public. Ok. We are wine club members at other wineries but we thought this was strange that he needed to mention this right off the bat. We may have joined if we liked the wine but isn't that the point of a tasting? He wanted to start us on a rosé or a Chardonnay and we declined. We were there for Hewitt and they only make cabs. We know what we like and we don't over indulge. He brought the Provenance cab for us to taste before the Hewitts anyway. Throughout the tasting our host insulted our wine preferences and tastes. He negged is several times saying thing like our tastes had "devolved" to lower levels from visiting other wineries and that our palates would eventually refine to the Hewitt palate. WTH?!? As for the actual tasting, the wines were too sweet for us. We are dry red wine drinkers. The Hewitt cabs tasted more like port to us. The wines were smooth and did get better with age but not worth the money when there are so many other wineries in the area. The host did pour us an older wine after we asked to taste something drier. It was good but still a tad on the sweet side for us. The only up side was a nice platter or meats and cheese that was offered to us with the tasting. We paid for the tasting and left without wine or club membership, which we were more than happy to purchase when we walked in. The grounds are unremarkable, the host was rude and condescending, the wine was too sweet but smooth and ultimately not to our liking anyway. read more

We had been members of the wine club and fans of Hewitt for years. Unfortunately that has all changed. After ordering a case of Cab last September the wine was never delivered. In December after numerous unreturned phone calls and emails to Jonathan DeBonis I was promised a credit for the wine and that it would still be shipped which I thought was a very kind gesture. Unfortunately the credit to my CC was never put thru. I was emailed a receipt for the credit but it was never posted. I have left more than 10 messages and emails for DeBonis with absolutely no response. Its unfortunate that a group that produces such a great product can't respond to the simplest customer service problem. Lots of great wineries that understand how to treat loyal customers unfortunately Hewitt is not one of them. read more

I had ordered 8 bottles of wine. 4/2014 and 4/2015. I then called them back to cancel the order due to the fact that the winery is $30.00 higher on the bottle price than some stores. Brian told me they had not shipped and would cancel everything. This was at 9:30 AM. At 5:00 PM I received a call from Brian stating the wine had shipped, and that his computer was reading different than his bosses. He stated he would cancel my membership per our conversation this morning at 9:30 AM. So eight hours later this takes place. So he never did what I asked him to do this morning. read more

It's actually less than 1 star but I have no choice to give 1 star... I and my husband became a Hewitt member this summer and we already spent a couple of thousand dollars to buy their wines and goods including award wining 2010 cab. We had a great experience till today. We had a worst tasting experience ever for our long time Napa wine tasting. We've been a member of several wineries and have been good and bad wine tasting experiences but today was worst of all... I brought 5 guests and I paid 2 tastings in advance since I only can bring up to 3 guests for free tasting. The lady hosted us told my guests that I paid two tastings which she should not have said that since I wanted my guests not worry about tasting fees but enjoy tasting... So, started bad... She explained the history of Hewitt and other stuff like wine makers but it was typical "wine educator" speech... After that, she became a sales/marketing person. It was awkward to my guests and uncomfortable. I never experienced like it at Hewitt in my past experience. After tasting is done, I asked her what else she can pour for us but she said "like what?" So, I asked her a specific wine and she came back said that my manager said we cannot serve that wine. I said OK, then, I asked that we want to revisit 2013 Hewitt but she refused since she has already re-pour it to one of my guest....but I wanted to other people to try it again... (yes, no one asked for it first time but I asked it again) I asked for a manager to speak and gave feedback about her and he was apologetic and pour Provenance wine. That was good... but we visited there for Hewitt wine. So, I bought 2010 Hewitt and asked other person to pour it to my guests but his attitude was worse... (my guests told me) and it's sad that we joined Hewitt because it's wines and we had a great experience with him when we joined... but he did not meet my expectation for customer service today (I suspect that he heard about my feedback to the manager about his co-worker) If Hewitt management is reading this, I strongly suggest that you re-train your staff and check your members purchase histories before you serve tasting. People visits wineries want taste wines before they purchase. I'm not asking to open new bottle but if it's open, your staff should have served wines without being asked. I believe you will get more loyal members and customers in the long run. Since I feel I will be treated as a pain in the butt next time when I visit, I canceled my membership today. For wine lovers, don't waste your money and time here. I recommend to go to other wineries which have as good wines as Hewitt or better and will experience a much better customer service. Enjoyed our tour and tasting of Hewitt wines at Provenance winery in St Helena. Matt, our tour guide, did a great job of walking us around the property, pointing out the various varietals and explained the various equipment and processes. Paused to suggest a good place for a photo, and never made us feel rushed. Tasting was at the perfect pace, allowed us to revisit, and took care of us in the end when both us and our guests purchased some wine to take home. Since we've been members of Provenance for many years, we loved the invitation to experience the Hewitt tasting with a couple of guests. Customer service here is top notch, and of course... the wines are pretty phenomenal as well! read more
