Alex and his staff are the most accommodating and friendly staff in Paris. We've eaten at their fondue/hot stone cooking restaurant several times over the past decade with groups of adults and students and it's always been a wonderful, memorable experience. The salad is fresh, the roasted potatoes are crispy, and the fondue and/or hot stone-cooked meats and vegetables are delicious. Best accidental discovery ever! We were wandering the streets of Paris on our last night looking for a restaurant for one last memorable meal. On a whim we came in here because we saw that they served fondue and we thought that would be a good idea for supper. The restaurant name translates into "Fortunate like Alexander" in English. Did that ever turn out to be a fantastic decision. Read on to hear why. The restaurant's owner has to be one of the kindest, charismatic people that I have ever met. He welcomed us with open arms and we got to chat with him quite a bit and learn more about him. He also was very kind to us and gave us many free drinks just because he was a very generous person. This was completely unexpected and we were really grateful for this. In addition to a welcoming owner the atmosphere here in general was just relaxing and inviting. We got talking to the people at the table next to us and it turns out that they were regulars who lived in the neighbourhood and came here frequently because they had befriended the own. Meanwhile two buskers came by who played some mellow guitar music to add to the ambiance. Now I can finally talk about the food. We ordered a simple cheese fondue and it was wildly delicious. It came out very quickly and we enjoyed every mouthful. We were given plenty of bread to soak it all up and there was also a salad included so we could get some vegetables. Honestly my experience was so good here that I was almost sad to leave the restaurant at the end of the night. We wanted a memorable, final meal in Paris and boy did we ever get it. We tried this place based on other reviews and we were not disappointed. Fondue and hot stone cooking is not very popular in mid July but my partner and daughter had never had either dish before so I encouraged them to try it. I can picture this tiny restaurant packed with a big group of people on a cold winters night. Everything is around 20 euro per person. We had the mixed meat (duck and beef) hot stone and the traditional cheese fondue. Food was nicely presented. We had a salad to start and there were 3 great sauces that came with the meat. I've been there twice. I had a fondue savoyarde (cheese) and a fondue bourguignone (meat). I liked both a lot. The waiters are nice and fast. The place is reasonable in price. Overall, a nice restaurant for foundues, not the best, but very good. read more

We were PLUS heureux qu'Alexandre (who is Alexandre??) after my birthday dinner where 18 of us shared a table-full of scalding fondues, plates of addictive potatoes, trays of salad and a case-worth of house wine. I wouldn't go so far as four stars for this cozy but poorly decorated fondue joint but I can whole-heartedly say we were satisfied with our experience. The service was quick, and they constantly made sure we had enough sides and refilled our meat plate once or twice gratos after we had exhausted our original order. The price tag is great at around 16 euros per person, not including wine which is also very very reasonably priced. Perfect for big hungry groups! Everyone in our group of nine ordered the bbq combination (which included a platter of duck, beef, and chicken meats). The combo meant we also got unlimited orders of salad and fried potatoes, which fed us for 2-3 hours. The salad was fresh and the fried potatoes were hot and crispy. Very good food, the owner was very kind to the large party that I was with, despite our limited knowledge of French. The food was delightful, my party started off with a bread and cheese fondue, and it was excellent. The main course that we ordered was a meat fondue plate that came with beef, duck, and chicken. It was fantastic! The dessert was even better, the dark and milk chocolate fondue was a huge hit to finish off the night. Overall, this place is a must eat at if you are in Paris. I came here 17 years ago and loved it then! Returning in April I found it to be every bit as good! They are very generous with the food (it's all you can eat, but one round is all most people can do). The owner is a lot of fun and made the experience as great as it was years ago. Wonderful atmosphere, tucked away in a corner of a side street and owner was simply welcoming. We did the hot stone which was seasoned with salt and herbs for your meat. Dishes came with salad, roasted potatoes, and bread. Then at the end, owner gave us a shot for digestion. Definitely will return! read more

It didn't take long to look over the menu (after all, there are only 3 options -- meat fondue, cheese fondue, and vegetables-and-meat-on-hot-stone) and place an order with the friendly waitress (/owner? I think?). After that, we waited a few minutes for our salad (included in the 16 euros) to arrive, and after a few more minutes, she brought our order -- a steaming cheese fondue. It was entirely too much cheese for two people, and we only managed to eat our way through 2/3 of it, but it was delightful. My boyfriend rated it his best meal in Paris. I wouldn't have minded a few vegetables to dunk in the cheese -- broccoli anyone? -- but the provided bread and potatoes certainly hit the spot. read more

DON'T go here! This is a complete rip-off. Menu prices fuzzy. When pressed to clarify, they angrily told us that every dish is priced per person. This means that a table of 4 people pays 4 times the price of the dish. They told us explicitly, when we asked for more clarity, that diners in groups of 4 should expect to pay between 80-120 Euros per person, even though a dish may be listed as costing 20 Euros the cost is really 80 Euros for 4. So if you order 4 dishes, you would be in for a huge bill. The staff was rude and angry when we asked for clarification. We left without eating anything, and found a lovely place nearby for a great meal at a reasonable price. read more

Our experience at Heureux Comme Alexandre provided the best service we received on our entire 16-day Europe trip! Service was comparable to the US. Alex, the owner, was always in sight and was quick to refill your glass, relight your burner, etc. I got the cheese fondue and my friend got the chicken/beef/duck/veg dish which you cook on a hot stone. It was an excellent meal that costed only 40- including wine! If you live in the states, you probably know of The Melting Pot. This is 10000 times better and costs less. read more

We had a delicious dinner here and tried both the meat fondue and the cheese fondue. They were both excellent! We weren't sure what to expect with the meet, but you boil it in a pot of grapeseed oil and it's not oily at all. It's delicious! This place is located close to the Moufetard street in Paris. There are a lot of touristy restaurants in the area, but not this one. This is a good and casual fondue spot. This place was incredible from start to finish. I came here with 12 students I was on a trip to Paris with and they had wanted to do fondue. So we called ahead to make a reservation and they accommodated us without a problem. We also we seated outside on the terrace which was perfect for watching the nightlife and passersby! The food was delicious too - we split a couple different options with cheese and meat. There was plenty of food to be had by all. Our waiter was attentive and got us drinks and food without a long wait and most importantly was so patient with us when we had to work it how to divide the bill. You have to walk past a gauntlet of cookie cutter restaurants, but this one at the end of the block is unique and totally worthwhile. Loved the cozy atmosphere, quiet enough to encourage conversation. We had the "hot stone" at our table so we could grill the thin slabs of duck and beef. You are also given onion, lemon, tomato and mushrooms to grill, along with Herb D'Provence to sprinkle ad lib. After some trial and error, and some wine, our skill at grilling increased exponentially. Service was terrific, house wine was good ( though it seemed odd to have a red wine chilled), salad of marinated cucumber/ tomato was welcome, as was a large dish of freshly roasted potatoes. I almost never write reviews, but this place was so insulting towards us that it warrants one. We were a party of 5, but 3 of us arrived earlier and were seated, waiting to place our order. In the 30 mins we sat waiting, not once did the waiter come by to ask us for water, drinks or our order. It is possible that he was waiting for the entire party to arrive before serving us. Eventually we did place an order for a cheese fondue and our fondue came out with the cheese and wine completely separated. Having lived in Paris for 9 months and travelled through Switzerland we have eaten at many fondue places and have never been served fondue that looked or tasted like that. We asked 2 times if the fondue was right and if we could get a stirrer for it; when our friends arrived they agreed that it didnt look right either and we asked again but he just said thats how it is and walked away. In the end he over charged us for our fondue for no particular reason. We would never return here and wish nobody else would either. We were polite and spoke in French initially with him, but we clearly rubbed him the wrong way. Nobody should be treated so poorly when they are trying to enjoy an evening with friends over dinner. read more
