This place is tuck away street near Norte Dame Cathedral. It is walking distance from our hotel. It is my highly recommended restaurant to have. They only accept cash that day due to credit card system down. Fortunately we bring enough cash to enjoy this location. This is Fondue restaurant. But we are trying something different. We have the oil fry work and stone grilled for meat. We got the three meat special- chicken, duck and beef. It accompanied the veggies - bell pepper, tomato, onion, mushroom and cucumber. Those veggies is good for the stone grill. We also got the meat grilled on the preheat stone. The spice on it make it nice including the olive oil. The fried oil section also great. It's a small place in the heart of the Latin Quarter, Just next to the San Séverine church, so it's easy to find. First of all, we think Alex, our waiter, was the owner, Alexandre. He was lively, solicitous and he made the whole meal fun. Nothing was beyond him; he gave us whatever we wanted. We started a bottle of champagne and when I said I loved Kir royales, he brought over a whole bottle of cassis and let us make them ourselves (and didn't even charge us for the liquor). We had the raclette of mixte meat (beef, chicken, lamb chops and duck breast), and a fondue bourguignon (also with mixte meats). Both were good choices and the raclette also came with vegetables. Fun for the kids to cook on the hot rocks and the fondue; the hot rocks came loaded with fresh herbes and seasonings, so when you added the meat, it seared in the seasonings. Of course, the lamb chops and the duck were my favorites, but the chicken and beef were good too. The beef was particularly tender. We had so much fun cooking and eating, and we were quite full when we finished; we needed to walk some of this off. We wished we had more time to come Back! Oh wow if you like fondue this is a great spot Well we found Heureux Comme Alexandre by mistake but it was a godsend because this off-the-main-drag fondue spot is to die for. It is all outdoor. The menu is concise and includes fondue choices of cheese with bread, meat to be fried in oil or on a flat grill and dessert fondue. We choose the cheese fondue with Morels and champagne and had the meat with beef and duck. Make sure you get the duck. We didn't have room for dessert, unfortunately. The staff was fast and very friendly. The wine selection was well-rounded. It was placed in a quaint, lively square. We found this amazing place on the last day of our trip to Paris and it turned out to be a major highlight! Unknowinly, we arrived a little ahead of dinner hours and as Alex and his crew were just sitting down to their own meal. Nevertheless we were warmly welcomed, and treated to a mini-course in what and how they served - which set us up incredibly well for ordering later. We chilled with some drinks, waited for our companions to arrive and throughly enjoyed the atmosphere and company. I haven't had fondue in ages, and the experience of searing our meats & veggies on a hot stone was new to me. Loved that - AND the dusting of herbs on the stone made being one of the first to claim some space there worth 'fighting' for ; ) The delightfully appointed dining room filled up quickly as Parisian dinner hours set in - & we were glad to have arrived early - tho there was also ample, heated space outside in an enclosed tent space, too. The meal was excellent, we were served extra veggies and a salad upon request, and a choice of special chocolate blends in little pots for dessert to finish. On the last night before heading back to the States, we found this gem of a Fondu restaurant near our apartment in the Latin District (Cluny). Tried to make an online reservation with no success, so we arrived as they opened at 6pm. The place is run by an animated gentleman who really seemed to have fun with all the customers. We ordered cheese fondu with mushrooms, 2 meats we cooked on a rosemary dusted stone and an incredible fruit and chocolate dessert. My 9 year old son and my parents had an incredible time. My friend and I (both American, but I speak French well) were searching for a good restaurant in the Latin Quarter that wasn't too tacky or touristy. We made a turn off the main road and found this gem. Alex found us on the street and while this is usually annoying to be approached by the restaurant, he made us laugh and feel welcome right away. His restaurant was empty at the time - at about 7pm! So we had a pick of tables and chose to sit outside. He immediately got to know us - speaks very good English even though he kept apologizing and saying he didn't. and was open to learning words from us and vice versa. He brought us free aperitifs and digestifs and as people continued to fill up the restaurant, he still made us feel connected to the restaurant. He introduced us to new guests, fostered a community at the restaurant, and even introduced us to local business owners walking by! By the end of the evening, we were laughing and taking pictures with many different tables. The food itself was very good - especially the chicken! So smooth and buttery somehow but delicious. Amazing fondue - more like raclette cheese so strong but good. We got duck, beef, and chicken and were very happy! We also had chocolate fondu and we're happy as well. We got cheered by the whole restaurant for our wine selection and being from Texas. Alex said he's been at the restaurant since the 90s but you can tell he has the energy as if he just started working there. THE BEST fondue of my life! The service was so fast and excellent! I dreamt about it all night and we actually ate there again the next night. YEP. Even though it seems to be in fondue alley/city we refused to try a different place. Be careful though they will try and talk you into too much fondue. The first night we got a mushroom one and a classic one based on the waiter recommendation... despite the fact I told him I do not eat very much. It's okay. Not expensive. But the oil fondue really wasn't so great. Sauces were very low quality. Oil came already dark brown making me wonder if they reuse oil from potatoes frying. I really hope they don't re use oil from other customers. Other than that the salad they give you is pretty good and the potatoes are fine. The beef they use for the burgundy fondue is not fat enough and is tough. Honestly chicken should not be used in a burgundy fondue. The duck meat was decent. read more

Disclosure: I attempted to dine at Heureux Comme Alexandre (HCA) but did not. My review is of the petty and unhelpful service I briefly received there, not the food. My 19-year-old daughter and I walked into HCA at around 8 pm on a Friday night in January. The indoor seating area was pretty full and the outdoor area, covered by a tent, had one or two parties. I was met by a man whom I presume -- based on what I read about him from other reviews -- was Alexandre himself. Immediately after we entered, he approached and asked me a question in French. My French is passable but rusty. My hearing is also a bit diminished and I was fatigued from travel. Thinking he was confirming the number of my party, I replied, "Oui." Then he took out a book and asked me my name. I realized he had actually been asking if we had a reservation, so I quickly told him no, actually, we had not reserved. Would it still be possible to eat? He told me to wait and proceeded to spend a few minutes fussing around the dining area, helping other people. Then a young American couple entered and he greeted them. No, they didn't have a reservation, either. No problem -- Alexandre seated them immediately and bantered with them about their "honeymoon." We continued to stand, waiting, for another minute, and then he ushered us to a table at the front of the tented area, near the flap of the tent from which a steady draft was flowing. The young couple, meanwhile, were seated in a middle part of the tent, near the overhead heaters. After about five minutes, Alexandre came out with a basket of bread and plate of salad -- for the young couple. We continued to wait, a little chilly but thinking that some warm fondue would fix that. Five more minutes passed. Alexandre was in the tented section again, helping an older gentleman seated by himself. I made eye contact with him and he said, "I haven't brought your salad." Usually when a server says something like that, he means it as an admission and an apology, and intends to make it right immediately. But I came to suspect that he wasn't apologizing -- he was making a statement. We waited perhaps 5-7 more minutes, getting colder, no menu, no bread, no salad. He came into the tent area again, still bearing nothing for us, and I rose and told him that it was too cold and we were leaving. "Désolé, monsieur," he deadpanned, and went back into the dining room. The only interpretation I can put on this event is that Alexandre assumed I was trying to lie about having a reservation, and he wanted to punish me for it. Which is pretty stupid -- who could ever get away with lying about a reservation? They either have your name or they don't. The contrast between the friendly and immediate attention he paid to the couple who came in *after* my party and the neglectful way he treated me and my daughter could only have been an intentional message. Or rank incompetence. But I doubt it. Either way, that was my experience and you can take it for what it's worth. Alex, if you read this: I didn't lie to you. All that French-restaurateur vigilante justice was over a misunderstanding, and you lost a customer of good will over it. PS: we ate instead at Chalet Gregoire, not far away, and it was outstanding in every respect. Highly recommended. You will see my positive review of it on Yelp shortly. read more

What an experience in food and service! You are started off with a tray of fresh veggies with a salad dressing - great way to start. Then you choose your meal - brochette or fondue. We chose 2 fondues - cheese and beef. The cheese consistency is a bit different from what we're used to having in the US, but nonetheless good - it seemed like a cheese blend. Came with bread. We're used to meat fondue in the US always coming with broth, but this one came with oil! So you cook the meat in the oil and then are given 3 sauces to dip the meat in - very good. Everyone is also given a plate of fried potatoes. Unsure how these potatoes are fried, but they are beyond delicious - wish I had kept room to eat more! The potatoes were perfectly crispy on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. Price is about 16-18 Euros a person. Service was also great! read more
