Very friendly staff. Always trying to accommodate other people without reservations. Always a car there when I reserve one .Thank you!

Here is my note to the DM. I wish I checked the reviews to know that this wasn't the first time Sanjay was rude to people. 6 months ago and still works there. Well here is what my story is and what I emailed the DM today. I apologize for taking the weekend to reach out but as you can imagine going to a funeral takes priority. On Thursday September 17th I arrived at your McQueen location in Gilbert, AZ at approximately 11:30am. I was planning to rent a car to drive to California for my mothers funeral. I took an Uber to this location. When I arrived I was greeted by one person at the location who went by Sanjay (I apologize if I'm not spelling it correctly). He was far from welcoming. I let him know I have a reservation I want to make sure it's ok I take this car out of state as I am trying to get to a funeral. He said that's fine. He then pulled my reservation, asking for my ID and credit card. I handed it to him. Pretty Verbatim script Sanjay: what's your phone number? Me: 9494828000 (I gave him my only number which is my cell phone. Pretty standard these days). Sanjay: I need a second number. Me: I only have the one. Sanjay: I need a second one. Me: I only have one number. Can you just use all 9's or put something random or my number twice? Sanjay: (tosses my ID and credit card towards me on the counter) fine I'm not renting to you. Me: what? What do you mean? Sanjay: Give me a second number or you don't get a car. Give me a friend or family member's number. Or no car. Me: I am not going to give you someone I know's number without their permission. Sanjay: Get out then I'm not renting to you. Kinda raising his voice. Pushing the ID and credit card back. Me: dude I am just trying to rent a car to get to my mom's funeral. Please rent me the car so I can go. I don't need this attitude right now. Sanjay: Then give me another number. Continuing to raise his voice. Me: (handed my stuff to him again.) Fine I'll give you a number. (Gave a random number). Sanjay: Was that so hard? (With attitude) Me: dude you don't need to be arguing and raising your voice to me. It's fu@@ing rude. Sanjay: Apologize or leave! Me: for what? You are arguing with mend yelling at me. Why would I apologize for you giving me a hard time? I am just trying to get this car so I can go make peace. I'm going to a funeral for crying out loud and this is how you treat people? Sanjay: Get out (tosses my ID and credit card) you are not getting a car here go somewhere else. There was someone in the lobby at the time as well. This doesn't begin to tell the full story. But I need this to go on record. Someone is pleading with an employee to try and get a car to go to their MOTHERS FUNERAL and that's how they get treated. I called in to customer care waited on hold for 30 min finally got someone (very pleasant and helpful) made new arrangements. Set it up at another location. Quoted me $146 instead of the $176 I was going to pay. I ordered another Uber and went back in to tell Sanjay he could have done the right thing instead he is making me go to another location over a phone number. He said, good for you, get out. While another customer was walking in. He has no regard for customer service or empathy for what people are going through. This held over my head this entire weekend while I should have been grieving. When I was at the Ray Rd. location. The two ladies tried their best to get me the price I was quoted over the phone. I guess issues with systems wouldn't work. But at least they were pleasant and understanding. They didn't fight me over a second number. I honestly don't know where to go from here. I am shocked someone would act this way. I am shocked I never got a call after asking for one. I am shocked that the best anyone could do in this situation was simply book another location. I was treated horribly during a time I let them know I was grieving. Rather than being understanding they challenged me and argued with me and treated me poorly. This is not acceptable read more

I had friends visiting from Germany and made a reservation to rent a car for them. The driver was 21, so we expected and were fine with the additional young driver fee since that's standard across rental companies. However, when we arrived, we were told the driver needed a credit card in her own name--even though her sister had one available. I asked if I could rent the car myself and add her as a secondary driver, but the employee immediately shut that down without offering any alternatives or trying to help. The interaction felt dismissive and unaccommodating. We ended up going to Enterprise instead, where the process was smooth, hassle-free, and even less expensive. This was my second negative experience at this location, and unfortunately, it will be my last. I won't be returning and will likely avoid renting from Hertz in the future. read more

I have Gold Plus Rewards 5 star status and reserved a midsized sedan which is listed as a Kia K4 or K5 I believe. When I got there, they had reserved me a Kia Soul... which last time I checked was more of a compact?? He said if I wanted something else I had to upgrade but he would give me a "deal" instead of using my free upgrade. After a few days went by and the extra $100 shock wore off, I thought maybe it was just a bad experience for myself but when I went to drop off my vehicle, another gentleman was picking up his midsized suv which was supposed to be a Nissan rogue or similar and they wanted to give him a Nissan K5! Which is listed as a midsized sedan! Multiple offenses with two different employees is insane. And when we tried to contest, they both insisted these were the correct vehicles in our reserved class. I would avoid renting from here at all costs. Even though the airport location has the same rating, I would rent from there. You might have better luck. Very disappointed. read more

Update: she charged my dealership 2 days of a rental when I only had the toy car for a day. Took over a week to get them the info. Then went into the dealership just to prove her own mess up. I'll say with my chest, she is not someone that should be a manager. read more

Go anywhere else. Find any other rental franchise. The 1 star is because I called Hertz customer support and they were supportive to their 25+ year Gold member's concerns. This place has custom disservice and lied to me. When I pointed out the lie and asked for them to follow Hertz rental policy and do the right thing, they did nothing and they got the review they deserved here, directly to Hertz, and other review sights. They do not care about the customer at all. UPDATE: I added a pic of the refund that the Hertz corporation gave me. When they don't have the car you requested, and they more than likely won't, they WILL "upgrade you" to a more expensive rental and charge you extra. Don't bother with the laughable customer (dis)service this place gives. Just call Hertz and get a case number, then call them back after you return, and they will refund. Hope this disuades you from going to this location. read more

Horrible communicator! Very rude. When asking questions very combative. Aggressive. This person should not be working in customer service at all. read more

I just spoke with Jennifer, who stated that she was a supervisor, and this was honestly some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. She was rude, dismissive, and completely unhelpful. Someone in a supervisory position should know how to communicate with customers respectfully and handle concerns professionally. Jennifer may need additional customer service training because this interaction was unacceptable and made an already frustrating situation even worse. I would not recommend this Hertz location based on the service I received. read more

Posting on behalf of my husband and I in my husband's words. "My family and I were renting this vehicle from Thursday afternoon to Monday afternoon for a trip to Oklahoma to visit with a dying relative. The pickup time came and went because they had a long line of people in front of me. I got the rental picked up, but later than my appointment time because of the backlog of other appointments. We got the vehicle and it was on the newer side, roughly 8,000ish miles at pickup. We finally got on the road and at only 200 miles in, the collision detection system errored and stopped working the rest of the trip. That didn't cause any huge issue for us, as we didn't get into any accidents. The big issue arose when we got to Oklahoma. On the second day we went to visit our dying relative and in the parking lot of the center, I was looking for an item I needed in the car door. I felt something weird and pulled out not one, but two marijuana e-cigarettes. Oklahoma is tough on possession of marijuana and this could've gotten not only myself, but my wife arrested for possession and my children taken into custody by the state. I'm beyond upset that thrifty car rental could be so careless and put my family in this potentially disastrous situation. We weren't offered any resolution, other than the employee at the car return counter telling me that he'd talk to the manager about it. This incident could've hurt and already hurt family even more and I want more than just empty words. Thrifty needs to make this right." read more

We rented a car to go from AZ to Washington one way. When we got there and picked the car up they had changed our reservation from 1 way to round trip. When we called and called like 10 different times no one answered ever. Went back online and they said if we kept our regular reservation they would charge us over $2200 !!!! needless to say when we picked up the car it took a very long time ! Will never rent from Hertz we will stick to a company we rent from all the time but this one. ENTERPRISE!! Rated truly ~0 read more

Very sketchy location. Only "rented" here because our dealership sent us here for a "loaner" while our car was in for service. Agent told us to return the car with the same amount of gas as it had (claimed 45%). Actual level was more like 35%. Returned it with exactly 50% (dropping it at the dealership). And then my card gets hit with a $42 charge. Total scammers. Dealership is now dealing with it. read more

WHAT A PIT! Vehicle was filthy inside and out, Brakes made clicking sound when pedal was depressed. Check engine light was on! Very disconcerting. Had a reservation for 11 days returned after 2. Rental site also filthy: walls, floors, doors, glass. Decor is an old nasty Christmas tree and children's drawings obviously used to cover a portion of dirty walls. Easily explains why the car was gross.. Service was rude and SLOOOOOW. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

I had such an amazing experience with Jennifer who was very personable, professional, and accommodating! I haven't rented from a Hertz that was not close to an airport and was admittedly hesitant. I rented a car online, got an uber to the location with my daughter, was dropped off and THEN told they did not have any cars available for the next 3 days. This location was crazy busy both at my pick up and drop off. Both time there were 4 appointments at the same time and only 1 person working. I showed up 15 mins early to my pickup time and got my rental 45 mins late. just rent from enterprise. this Hertz didn't have the car we reserved to pick up at 8am. said maybe they would have it in a few hours. we have a deadline and can't wait for a car that long. they couldn't provide us with a refund, either. They gave us a customer service phone number to call, and now we aren't getting a refund for 7-10 business days, when we obviously need that money to rent a different car since they couldn't provide the car we had reserved and paid for. Enterprise is far more professional then whatever we encountered at this location. Believe the 2.5 star rating lol. If i could rate 0 stars i would read more

Worst rental car place EVER! Walked in at 1443, no one at front desk. One male employee walked in, walked past us without saying a word. He then proceeded to walk past again without saying a word. I walked towards back after elevating voice with a "Hello!" After no one answered, I proceeded to walk towards the Employee offices to find a woman sitting behind her desk with a scowl on her face typing. She let me know the guy at the front desk was in the parking lot with another customer. My pick up time for the vehicle was 1400. When the front desk employee was able to help me at 1453, he told me he wasn't sure if there was a vehicle ready and he'd need to check. Mind you that the online reservation said there was a vehicle ready. After he confirmed there was vehicle, he said it was being cleaned and I would need to come back later. At that point, I cancelled the reservation. I'm a motor vehicle accident victim and do not have time for such a headache. Highly DO NOT recommend this place! Picked Hertz over Enterprise due to price and I learned the hard way. I waited almost an hour when I picked up my rental. The associate was polite and nice so I figurer, maybe it was just a bad time, whatever. However, when dropping off at 2 pm on a Monday, the lights were off and when a lady came out, she met me halfway down the hall, didn't ask my name, just asked if I was dropping off or picking up. She had me hand the keys to an older gentleman and asked if I needed a paper or electric receipt. I said electric would be fine. My bad because I still never received it. It was a pleasure to work with Larry and Shaquille. I was going to have the rental for an unknown length of time through my repair shop. Shaquille put my rental order in place and instructed me to call each week to extend. This made things very easy. This place needs a manager on site. I reserved a "Manager's Special" and ended up in a high top cargo van. The gas gauge was on empty and the van was dirty both inside and out. The lot attendant that reviewed the van before turning it over to me was wearing a t-shirt that said "fuck the population" on it. When I told the guy in the tie the gas gauge said was on E he asked FTP guy if he had taken a picture of the gas gauge and when he learned that FTP guy had taken the photo he told me it was fine I could bring it back the same way. On the bright side, I turned the keys back in and told them I wasn't interested and the clerk did tell me the manager would void the transaction. My wife and I rent automobiles several times a year for both business and pleasure. We typically use a Hertz competitor, however, we saw a great price for a 15 day rental on Orbitz...so we took the bait. Minus 2 Stars: When processing our rental contract, I asked that my wife be added. The employee said, "that will be an extra $15 a day." I was astonished. I told him that I rent several times a year and have never had to pay a fee to add my wife on the contract. I asked if there was a Hertz process to exempt paying for a spouse...to wit he said no, it will cost $15 a day. This is a total misrepresentation by the Hertz employee. He could have simply said..."it only takes a couple of minutes to sign up for our "Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Program" and then your wife doesn't have to pay a fee to be on the contract. After finding this out, I felt totally cheated. . Minus 1 Star: We finished the contract and went out to the car. It was very dirty. It was so dirty that the employee had to use the wipers to clean the windshield to look for cracks and chips. We were just so stressed from dealing with this guy, we just wanted to get out of there...so we left in a filthy, white SUV and decided to get it washed ourselves because it was embarrassing to drive. Minus 2 Stars: Our trip was cancelled on day 2 because of the HUGE snow and rain storm hitting the NW. We turned the car in and a different employee helped us. He took the keys and went out to check the car. Came back in and said..."you are good to go. Thank you." I asked if I could get a receipt before I leave, to wit he responded..."if you want a receipt you will have to wait." I found this odd and knew that something was up. So, I sat down and waited until he got back to getting us a receipt. When he gave me the receipt I reviewed it before walking away. I asked him why he charged me for 1 week instead of 2 regular rate days. He explained that because we had booked through Orbitz on a weekly rate...he had to charge a week. I totally understand this policy. What I don't like...was that he knew I was going to pay for 1 week, but he didn't mention it and was trying to push me out the door without a receipt. Why didn't he tell me and let me know that I could keep the car for 5 more days because it was already paid for? I paid for 7 days and he was not even concerned with giving me the option to keep the car for the entire time I was paying for. Plus 2 Stars: I filed a complaint with Hertz and the regional manager called me. We discussed the program and how poorly the staff operated. The manager seemed to agree with me and told me on all accounts that she would address the staff's poor performance with them. She told me she would be talking directly to the employees because 1) they should have helped us with the 5 minute task of joining the rewards program to prevent a daily spouse charge; 2) the car should have been clean; and, 3) they should have been up front and offered to let me keep the car until the end of the rental period that I ultimately was charged for Minus 1 Star: I appreciate the manager's call...but it didn't compensate me in any way for a) charges for my spouse driving; and, b) the 5 days I was charged for the vehicle that I had the right to use but was not told I was being charged for, nor was I given the opportunity to use the vehicle. It sure felt like a - sucks to be you solution. So.................this is how I came to the 1 star review. I'm sure Hertz is a good organization. The fact the manager called was important to me. Thank you. I would have never written this review if there had been even a modicum of an attempt to make this situation right. I never asked for anything...and I got what I asked for. However, when someone gets charged for things they shouldn't have, or for products or services they paid for and didn't receive it seems to me that an I'm sorry isn't sufficient. If I rent from Hertz again, I will certainly not rent from this location. read more

Worst customer service ever! Booked reservations ahead of time called to confirm and said it's whatever they have on the lot. Why did I do a reservation then?!! If I could give a negative rating, I would consider it. Really. This has been going on for almost two weeks with no resolution. Now, let me break this review down into two different areas: employees and everything else. Employees have been great - friendly, empathetic and willing to help. The problem is, if they don't have the authority to do what needs to be done to make something right, the rest of it doesn't really matter. Additionally, if they don't follow through on what they say they're going to do, the rest of it doesn't matter. That has been the case repeatedly with this site. I was told to bring the car in for "exchange" but they never had any cars to exchange for. Then, when they took my information to call me and still haven't called me, it leaves me wondering two things: 1) did you forget to call me? or 2) do you still not have any cars? Everything else: This is an insurance referral, so they are guaranteed payment and that the car will be returned in decent shape, so I'm not sure why they haven't tried a little harder. Like maybe have a car brought over from the airport? They advertise "coming to you," but not once have they suggested that, it has always been me going to this site or that site in order to try to get the issue rectified. Yelp page says people spend about 17 minutes at this business. I am NEVER out in under 35. I know they are trying, but that causes a chain reaction to my day. The car. First, I requested a "full-size" and I am relatively sure a Chevy Cruze is not even remotely close to that category. Additionally, it is missing half the front license plate and was given to me with less than 1/4 tank of gas. Maybe this is the new normal, but I'm accustomed to being able to drive the car for a few days before having to hit the gas station. Second, since day one (2 weeks ago), the display doesn't work - the radio does, but it is stuck on one station. This also means that I am without a clock - doesn't seem like a big deal, but take notice how often you glance at the clock in your car. Sometimes the display comes on and the Chevy logo displays the whole time I am driving. Sometimes the back-up camera works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the back-up sensor beeps and sometimes it doesn't. The gas gauge sticks on "F" for about 5 days after I fill it, so I don't know how much gas I have until it finally registers at about 1/4 tank. The tire pressure sensors randomly go off, telling me one tire is at 29 psi while the other is at 40 psi. The button to open the trunk on the remote doesn't work and more often than not, I need to use a paper clip to pry the "flip" key out of the remote because the button doesn't make it spring out. And the kicker? Sometimes the air conditioner just blows hot air and not just hot air, but hot air from outside where it is 110+ degrees, so I can smell the carbon monoxide from the semi in front of me even though I have the AC button set to recycle the internal air. I'm pretty sure that my insurance company would not insure this car if I owned it and wanted coverage - it's a wreck! I have attempted to exchange the car through the Gilbert site three times. I even spent an hour on the phone with Customer Service to try to facilitate an exchange. They told me to go to the airport - I did...they didn't have any cars! Everybody is very apologetic, but that doesn't fix the issue. So, the car is terrible, the customer service is more than terrible. I would not recommend and would not use even if it's the only place my insurance contracts with, I will pay out of pocket if ever I need a rental due to an accident. I am working too hard to obtain service from a company that is in the service industry! read more

I had a Tesla car reserved with this location for a 2 day trip. I'll start by saying that the person at the counter was really rude. When I walked in, the first thing the agent said was "sit there". Didn't say welcome in or I'll be with you in a minute. Just "sit there". Once he was done with the customer in front of me (which was also having problems), he told me to come to the counter. I had already checked in online with my CC, drivers license and picture. I had been receiving emails from hertz for a couple of days on the information I needed for renting a Tesla, down the Tesla app and watched all the videos. When I told him I had rented a tesla, he said, No, we don't have any teslas. He said they send them to the airport. I told him, No, I rented a Tesla, checked in online with all my information. He wanted to downgrade me to a different car which was unacceptable to me. The only reason I reserved at this location was because I could get a Tesla here. I was wanting to try one out on this trip because I'm thinking about buying one. It was Saturday at 1145 am and most locations close at 12. I was not able to get another car so I had to cancel my trip. I'm not happy about this. I guess being President's Circle means nothing to Hertz, so I'm going back to enterprise. Thanks for ruining my weekend plans. read more

I have had so many problems with Hertz over the past few years. I chose to use this location as it would be cheaper than the airport. I called the day before to let them know I would be picking my car up later than expected. I told them I had to have a car since I would be making a trip to the airport right after and wouldn't' be able to wait an hour or more like previous experiences. The guy told me he would hold a car for me, and he did! As well, he took great care of making sure everything was ok with the car. When I returned the car, the gentleman who checked it out for me, Larry, was so kind, efficient and quick. I had by far the best experience here and it was refreshing after so many problems in different location. read more

Horrible!!!! They won't refund my money and I never got the car bc they said they had it but didn't.

Got dropped off at the location at the reserved time to pick up my vehicle and was told there was none available

I read the previous comments before writing mine. I fully understand what some said about the staff being either short staffed or them being crazy busy. I went at/near closing. I needed a very last minute rental and booked with a third party site. I called Hertz ahead to try and find out if it was going to be okay if I was a little late, maybe 7/8 minutes late. I wasn't able to really communicate that due to how busy the lady on the phone seemed. I ended just getting there and both ladies there were super busy. My minor issues started there, I told them I had a reservation and the person I spoke on the phone to asked me if I had a credit card ( I said yes) and then proceeded to tell me they don't accept chime cards. I said okay, I have a reservation. Her entire tone was very .. I want it say harsh. As I said; I totally understand that they are busy and stuff; but it's a service job... I feel like there needs to a tiny bit more softness. So, they then told me the reservation had to be under my name and the card, I said okay... That person was busy with someone else so Kay became available and helped us. She made sure our reservation was set up so both my spouse and I could drive the car. She waited patiently for us to get some things squared away with our bank. This is a big deal because it's already like 15/20 minutes past closing. Kay helped get us into a way better car than I expected. Really saved the day for us, as it was my son's 7th birthday. Kay, I hope you see this and know that I will send good vibes your way forever. Btw, I ended up with a '22 Jeep GC Laredo which was easy a 5/5. Kay, again, thank you so much for waiting for us while we resolved our bank issue and helping us get into a car right as your shift was ending. You were a blessing on a very hectic day. read more
